fix(avatars): scale agent squircles from normalized paths (#7307)
## Overview **Category:** fix **User Impact:** Agent avatars and empty agent-team placeholders now keep the same intentional squircle silhouette at every size on desktop, while human avatars remain circular. **Problem:** Desktop agent avatars used percentage-rounded rectangles, which made the silhouette vary by surface and required each avatar implementation to recreate the shape. Empty team placeholders also drew a regular CSS border inside the clip, leaving straight inset edges that looked like a cropped square. **Solution:** Reuse one normalized SVG clip path across desktop artwork. Empty team placeholders use a separately clipped squircle outline behind the clipped surface, so both the fill and outline follow the canonical silhouette. > **Scope correction:** Mobile is deferred from this PR because a real Flutter capture could not be obtained reliably in the current build environment. Previously attached mobile images were hand-composed synthetic layouts, not captures from the running app; they have been removed and must not be treated as validation. The mobile implementation is being reverted in one follow-up commit so it can be reapplied and verified separately. ### Related issue Follow-up to #7106. ## Changes <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/agents/ui/AgentCreationPreview.tsx** Applies the shared squircle clip to agent creation preview images and fallbacks. **desktop/src/features/agents/ui/AgentSessionToolItem/CompactMessageSummary.tsx** Uses the shared agent-avatar silhouette in compact session summaries. **desktop/src/features/agents/ui/IdentityInitialsAvatar.tsx** Clips agent initials with the normalized squircle instead of a percentage radius. **desktop/src/features/agents/ui/TeamIdentityCard.tsx** Uses the shared squircle for agent identities and gives empty teams a separately clipped squircle outline instead of a regular inset border. **desktop/src/features/agents/ui/activityRenderClasses/UserMessageBubble.tsx** Keeps agent avatars in activity message bubbles on the canonical silhouette. **desktop/src/features/home/ui/InboxListPane.tsx** Applies the shared clip to agent avatars in the inbox list. **desktop/src/features/home/ui/InboxMessageRow.tsx** Applies the shared clip to agent avatars in inbox message rows. **desktop/src/features/huddle/components/ParticipantList.tsx** Uses the normalized squircle for agent participants while preserving circular human avatars. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MessageRow.tsx** Clips agent message avatars through the shared definition. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/SystemMessageAvatars.tsx** Uses the canonical agent shape in system-message avatar groups. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/TypingIndicatorRow.tsx** Uses the canonical agent shape in typing indicators. **desktop/src/features/profile/ui/ProfileAvatar.tsx** Scales the same squircle to the larger agent profile avatar. **desktop/src/features/profile/ui/SelectedRecipientChip.tsx** Uses the shared shape for selected agent recipients. **desktop/src/features/projects/ui/IssueAssigneesRow.tsx** Applies the agent squircle to issue assignees without changing human avatar geometry. **desktop/src/features/projects/ui/ProjectCards.tsx** Uses the canonical shape for agent avatars on project cards. **desktop/src/features/projects/ui/ProjectEntityListRow.tsx** Uses the canonical shape for agent identities in project entity lists. **desktop/src/features/projects/ui/ProjectsActivityFeed.tsx** Uses the shared clip for agent avatars in project activity. **desktop/src/features/projects/ui/ProjectsOverviewRail.tsx** Uses the shared clip for agent avatars in the project overview rail. **desktop/src/main.tsx** Mounts the single shared SVG clip-path definition once for the desktop application. **desktop/src/shared/lib/cn.ts** Registers `rounded-squircle` in the border-radius class group so shadcn-style `cn(...)` composition resolves it against `rounded-full` by normal last-class precedence. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/utilities.css** Registers the reusable Tailwind `rounded-squircle` utility and references the normalized SVG clip path without agent-specific CSS selectors. **desktop/src/shared/ui/AvatarClipPaths.tsx** Owns the reusable normalized object-bounding-box `rounded-squircle` path so all desktop sizes reuse one definition. **desktop/src/shared/ui/UserAvatar.tsx** Routes the existing squircle shape option through the shared SVG clip. **desktop/tests/e2e/agents.spec.ts** Verifies team facepile and empty-team placeholder surfaces/outlines use the canonical clip without a rectangular border. **desktop/tests/e2e/messaging.spec.ts** Verifies agent message and profile avatars reuse one clip definition and scale across rendered sizes. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Run the desktop app and open a channel containing both agent and human messages. 2. Compare agent avatars in the message list, inbox, huddle participants, projects, and profile panel. Agent images and fallbacks should share one smooth squircle silhouette at each size; human avatars should remain circular. 3. Open **Agents** and inspect an empty agent-team card. Its placeholder fill and outline should both be smooth squircles, with no straight inset cropped-square edges. 4. Open an agent profile from a message and confirm the larger profile avatar keeps the same proportions as the smaller message avatar. ## Testing - Desktop Biome check passed for the changed empty-team component and Agents E2E spec. - Desktop typecheck and differential file-size check passed. - Full desktop unit suite passed: 6,453 tests. - Full Agents integration spec passed: 37/37, including the empty-team outline regression. - Post-rebase pre-push gates passed at `304b159a2`: desktop checks, TypeScript typecheck, differential file-size gate, and all 6,453 desktop unit tests. - The shadcn-aligned `rounded-squircle` registration passed changed-file Biome, desktop TypeScript/build, and pre-push desktop checks at `27e0c12d3`; the full desktop unit suite passed 6,459/6,459. ## Screenshots Screenshots are temporarily omitted. The previous captures used the desktop E2E mock bridge and were not evidence from a live running app, so they were removed. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Rizz <302abe414ca6e3134763d2539bfcf145aea2a63fe5f8455204ed602fd40cf381@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(markdown): align mention chip wrapping (#7501)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Human and agent mentions now break across lines with the same cloned chip treatment as repository and permalink chips while preserving the conversation text rhythm. **Problem:** Profile-backed rendered mentions sat inside an `inline-flex` popover trigger, unlike entity chips, so the wrapper interfered with true inline fragmentation. The browser-layout test measured text-range rows rather than the painted chip rectangles, allowing touching decorations to pass as “separate” fragments. **Solution:** Keep the profile trigger interactive but override its layout to true `inline`, then give mention fragments 18px computed leading inside the message’s 20px prose rhythm. Chromium paints each fragment at 17px and advances it by 20px, leaving a visible gap between cloned rounded rectangles. The browser test now measures the chip’s own `getClientRects()` and asserts fragment count, height, gap, and step; entity links retain their existing 22px leading. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/profile/ui/UserProfilePopover.tsx** Allows inline consumers to override the trigger wrapper’s layout without changing other profile-popover call sites. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/markdown.css** Keeps one shared wrapping-chip mechanic and gives mention decorations enough room to separate visibly within 20px prose. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown.test.mjs** Pins both rendered mentions and entity links to the shared wrapping-chip contract. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/MarkdownMention.tsx** Makes the profile-popover trigger truly inline so the nested mention chip can fragment with surrounding prose. **desktop/src/shared/ui/mentionChip.ts** Keeps `wrapping-inline-chip` as the single contract for fragmenting decorated chips. **desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts** Measures the painted chip rectangles, requires a positive fragment gap, and verifies the inline trigger remains mouse- and keyboard-operable. **desktop/tests/e2e/navigation.spec.ts** Keeps a wrapped repository chip as the control, asserting its existing 22px line height and fragment advance. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel in Buzz Desktop using dark theme. 2. Send a message containing a human mention and another containing an agent mention; both chips should remain aligned with adjacent text on a 20px line. 3. Render a collision-qualified mention in a narrow message width; it should break into separately decorated fragments exactly like another wrapping chip, while each fragment follows the 20px prose rhythm. 4. Render a long repository or permalink chip in the same constrained width; it should retain its roomier 22px fragment spacing. ## Screenshot The dark-theme production renderer shows the real qualified label (`bob (npub1hv3…tpuc)`) at an 8rem width. The two lines now paint as visibly separate rounded fragments rather than one continuous rectangle. ## Validation At commit `2b063e1b4ade30e11f1616269ad4ba4190366885`: - Pre-push desktop gates — file-size check, Biome/checks, typecheck, and 6,483 unit tests passed - `pnpm --dir desktop build` — passed - Focused Playwright coverage for single-line agent mention, single-line human mention, wrapped qualified mention including keyboard profile activation, and timeline mention click — 4 passed - `git diff --check` — passed --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Rizz <rizz@agents.buzz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): npub identity displays for mention, member, and workflow surfaces (#7495)
🤖 ## Summary Every Buzz account is identified by a long public key. Before this change, when someone had no display name, surfaces fell back to inconsistent labels — mostly raw hex fragments like `abcd1234…wxyz`, sometimes a generic role label with no key — so the same person looked different from surface to surface, and nothing looked like an npub address. This PR applies the npub identity foundation from #7488 to the everyday surfaces: a person without a display name now falls back to the same compact npub everywhere — `npub1xxxx…yyyy`, the human-readable spelling of their public key (first 8 + last 4 characters of the full npub) — across messages and mentions, reactions, huddles, member and participant lists, the sidebar and channel activity, search, projects, tray, notifications, and workflow surfaces. - **Mentions and messages**: key-only mention chips render the compact npub. Pasting a copied mention back still re-binds it byte-exactly to the identity it declares, for both the new npub chips and legacy hex-truncated chips copied by older clients — wrong, missing, or tampered key qualification is rejected instead of silently degrading to plain text. - **Reactions and huddles**: huddle reaction events and the huddle roster/participants render the compact npub for unnamed participants; workflow reaction triggers describe authors with the same form. - **Members and sidebar**: channel and community member lists, add-member results and invites, the members sidebar, the channel-activity popover, search, projects (assignees/reviewers/PR panels), the tray menu, and desktop notifications all fall back to the compact npub; titles and aria labels keep the machine-readable full labels. - **Profile labels**: panel/popover display names and owner handles fall back to the compact npub (never raw hex) when there is no name; linked-event (nevent) message metadata shows the npub-shaped author fallback while the event lookup and event IDs are unchanged. - **Workflows**: author-picker secondary labels, step destination keys, and trigger-author references render compact npubs; event and blob IDs keep their existing hex compacts (they are not identities). - **Avatars stay distinct**: fallback avatars for key-only identities derive initials from the key's tail, so prefixed role labels like "Participant npub1…" no longer collapse every unnamed participant onto the same initials; people with names keep their name initials. Preserved exactly: display names and distinct avatars, internal hex keys (storage/API forms unchanged), clipboard identity roundtrips, event/blob ID compaction, private keys (no nsec path is touched), and nevent link handling. Scope: this PR changes what identity labels **display**, not identity controls — profile/settings copy controls, the respond-to allowlist, workflow key fields, and agent dialogs are the sibling slice #7489, and the shared primitives (`canonicalNpub`, `truncateNpub`, the `<PubKey>` gate, strict input parsing) come from the foundation #7488. ### Related issue - Fixes: N/A. Searched existing issues/PRs for duplicates — none found; the related work is the npub identity stack this slice belongs to. - Base/dependency: stacks on #7488 (foundation) — this PR does not stand alone on main. - #7489 is a sibling slice on the same #7488 base (profile/agent/workflow controls), not a dependency: this PR does not require #7489, and #7489 does not require this PR — both only require #7488. ### Testing At exact head `4763cbeae1dd521309755e6d61f657324cb98667` (base: `fix/desktop-npub-identity-d1a` @ `5f3a4a8111998c8aa41ad77cf66992bd1c85343c`; 71 files, +656/−189 — production +277/−136, test support +379/−53): - At this head: targeted `mentions.spec.ts` (1/1), the e2e build, typecheck, and biome — green. - 9 changed/related unit files: 100/100 green; typecheck, e2e build, biome, and px text/truncation checks clean; huddle-roster focused run green; channel-activity e2e 11/11; mutation checks confirm the fallback wiring (removing it collapses shared initials and drops fallback rows). - Known pre-existing local e2e failures, unchanged by this PR and reproduced identically at the upstream merge-base: huddle-transcription voice-menu attribution (25 pass / 1 fail) and the `workflow-local-controls` 438px caret drift. Not claimed green locally. - Update at head `236af9e6137386737e84d3a474d6bc808a704c50` (test-only follow-ups `1143af345` + `236af9e6`): the `workflow-local-controls` races were fixed in the test drivers, and the 438px diff was shown to be a stale Darwin snapshot baseline (name-row enable switch already absent and `message_posted` already MessageSquare at recording commit `9390e11c9`) and refreshed — the focused screenshot test, including keyboard/caret assertions, now passes locally (twice). The full spec was not rerun after the snapshot refresh; the huddle-transcription item above is unchanged. Label/copy text changes are asserted by the e2e specs (`mentions`, `mention-recipients`, `pubkey-display-screenshots`, `huddle-transcription`, `channel-activity-popover`, `workflow-local-controls`) rather than new screenshots; the screenshot spec pins the compact npub text forms. ### Task provenance Buzz channel: `1f0e4a3d-7e01-4efe-bb16-843b357f85c9` Task: buzz://message?channel=1f0e4a3d-7e01-4efe-bb16-843b357f85c9&id=86b34eb4bd84a1472419e9af22636c011c0fe273e3c196f967d7a36996e149b6 --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): shared npub identity foundation (canonicalNpub, PubKey gate, strict parser) (#7488)
🤖 ## Summary Identity keys in the desktop app are displayed as raw 64-character hex. A person's key shows up as something like `953d3363…` — unreadable, impossible to recognize as the same identity on another screen, and a hazard when copied by hand. Nostr (the protocol Buzz runs on) has a human-readable spelling for identity keys — the `npub1…` form — but the desktop app did not use it consistently. This is the foundation of the desktop npub changes: it adds the shared pieces every identity surface builds on, and two follow-up slices stack directly on this branch — #7489 converts the identity controls (profile, settings, allowlist, workflow key fields) and #7495 converts the everyday display surfaces (mentions, member lists, sidebar, and other name fallbacks). After this change: - The shared identity widget shows the compact npub form — `npub1j57...fjmv` — instead of a hex prefix, everywhere it renders (for example the owned-agent public-key row on a profile). Copying it puts the full npub on the clipboard. - Copy is a real interaction, verified end-to-end: both popover variants put the exact canonical npub on the actual clipboard — never the raw hex the popover also lists, never a truncation — and a portaled popover's clicks no longer steal focus from the new-DM To-field mid-copy. Pointer copy, a natural Space-then-Enter path, and inner/outer Escape are covered. - Anything that isn't a valid identity key fails neutrally: short or corrupt values — including degenerate values that technically encode to a checksum-valid npub but aren't real identity keys — show "Unavailable" with no copy button, instead of a misleading value. - Both valid npub spellings display: all-lowercase `npub1…` and all-uppercase `NPUB1…` (Bech32, npub's encoding, permits either casing) both render the same canonical lowercase npub. Mixed case is rejected by the display path as written — `canonicalNpub` and the widget don't case-normalize input — while input parsing (`parsePubkeyInput`) keeps its trim-and-lowercase normalization and accepts mixed-case npubs; both paths require the decoded payload to be exactly a 64-character identity key. - Identity-key input is strict on payload: an npub whose decoded payload isn't exactly a 64-character identity key is rejected, matching the validation the app's Rust side already applies to agent allowlists. Intentional scope boundary: only surfaces that render through the shared widget change here. Outer profile copy, settings identity cards, the respond-to allowlist, and workflow key fields still show hex — they move to npub in the controls follow-up (#7489). Nothing else changes identity representation: display names, private keys, event IDs, and the hex the app stores, sends, and matches internally are untouched; only the user-facing spelling of an identity key changes. ## Details - `desktop/src/shared/lib/pubkey.ts` — `canonicalNpub()`: strict canonical full-npub helper (64-char hex in any case, or a checksum-validated npub, returns the canonical npub; anything else returns `null`); `truncateNpub()`: the compact display form; existing exports unchanged. - `desktop/src/shared/ui/PubKey.tsx` — the shared widget's identity gate validates through `canonicalNpub`; the popover copies the npub only. - `desktop/src/shared/lib/nostrUtils.ts` — `parsePubkeyInput` rejects npubs whose payload is not exactly a 64-character identity key. - `desktop/src/features/messages/ui/NewMessageScreen.tsx` — the To-field focuses its search input only for clicks that land inside the field itself, so portaled recipient popovers keep their focus while open (a popover click previously dismissed it mid-copy). - Unit suites cover the helper, widget, and parser (including the degenerate-encode and uppercase regressions); the e2e specs that render these rows assert the npub display. ### Related issue - Fixes: N/A. Searched existing issues/PRs for npub identity display — no existing match. - Stack: #7489 is based on this branch and builds on these primitives; it does not stand alone on main. ### Testing At head `b3310c248` (base: main `44316ff72`; 12 files, +440/−39): - Focused unit suites (pubkey, PubKey, parsePubkeyInput): 20/20 green; mutation-checked — removing the decoded-length predicate fails the short/empty checksum-valid-npub assertions in `canonicalNpub` and the widget, and a wrong-identity clipboard value fails the new copy assertions. - `pnpm typecheck` and `pnpm check`: pass; full desktop unit suite 6459/6459 at this exact head. - Targeted e2e at this exact head: 8/8 across the two specs that own the clipboard flows — `agent-access-warning.spec.ts` (compact variant, agent-access owner hint) and `pubkey-display-screenshots.spec.ts` (full variant, new-DM recipient verification: pointer copy, popover surviving the copy, inner/outer Escape, Space-then-Enter). - No Rust-side or build files change in this PR, so those results are unaffected. ### Task provenance Buzz channel: `1f0e4a3d-7e01-4efe-bb16-843b357f85c9` Task: buzz://message?channel=1f0e4a3d-7e01-4efe-bb16-843b357f85c9&id=86b34eb4bd84a1472419e9af22636c011c0fe273e3c196f967d7a36996e149b6 --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): authorize remote mentions at publication (#7124)
🤖
## Summary
In Buzz Desktop, you could own an agent running on another device but be
unable to mention it in a channel where it had not yet joined: it was
filtered out before you could invite it. A selected agent could also
disappear from the message's recipients when permissions changed. This
lets you select an eligible agent in the existing **@ menu**, invite it
from the message composer, and send to that agent—or see an error and
keep your draft rather than silently sending without it.
#### Where the experience changes
| Screen / control | Before → after |
| --- | --- |
| A channel's **Message #…** composer, or a message's **Reply in thread
to …** composer | Type `@` (or use the existing @ button), choose your
agent, write the message and press **Send message**. An owned agent not
yet in the channel can now reach the existing **“Mention people outside
this channel?”** dialog when its response settings allow you to address
it. |
| That dialog's **Invite** button | Previously the membership
requirement could block the agent before the invitation. Now Invite
checks permission to add it, adds it as an agent member of the
**channel** (not just the thread), then rechecks membership and response
permission before sending the waiting message. An agent already in the
channel needs no invitation. |
| Existing direct message, or the new-message screen with the **To:**
field | A mention is checked against the conversation the message will
actually enter, including a newly created direct message, rather than
the old or not-yet-created destination. This does not add an Invite
control to direct messages. |
| Editing a message / sending attachments | The selected agent remains
part of the send or edit attempt through attachment upload and the final
permission check. Lost permission produces a visible error instead of
dropping that recipient. |
**Invite is not the only chat choice.** The existing **Do nothing**
button sends the message *without inviting or notifying the nonmembers*;
their names remain references in the text. Where you cannot invite, that
choice is labelled **Send anyway**. To abandon the send instead, dismiss
the dialog with Escape. Invitation actions are disabled while
preparation is pending, preventing duplicate clicks.
**Leaving and returning must not resurrect a cancelled send.** Switching
threads or leaving the composer cancels its pending invitation, even if
you return to the same thread. Cancellation before dispatch sends no
message; an accepted membership change cannot be automatically undone.
An ordinary send without a pending invitation remains bound to its
original destination rather than following you into another
conversation.
**Failed sends must not overwrite your next draft.** If you leave a
thread, return and replace or deliberately clear its draft while an
older send is pending, the older failure cannot restore deleted text,
recipients or files; success cannot erase the newer draft—even if its
text is identical. An untouched draft cleared automatically for sending
remains recoverable on failure. This protection also covers reopening
the composer and starting a newer send.
The channel timeline also keeps its existing **new-messages / Jump to
latest** button available when newer messages are waiting to be
displayed. For example, after sharing a reply to the channel and closing
the thread panel, you can click the catch-up button to reveal buffered
messages. Closing the thread does **not** guarantee the shared row
appears automatically or force you away from reading history.

fix(desktop): bind duplicate mention selections to exact recipients (#7133)
## Summary Selecting two people or agents named Scout could replace the first recipient with the second even though the message still looked right. This binds each selection to its exact identity: the first keeps `@Scout`, and a conflicting selection gets `@Scout (<full public key>)`. Removing one no longer removes or redirects the other. - Reuse the existing **@ suggestion list**; team selection and automatic agent addressing reserve and reuse distinct labels too. Typing an ambiguous name manually shows an instruction to use the picker and preserves the draft without publishing—in chat, edits and standalone forums. - Share literal mention matching across recipient extraction, removal, display and editing so a shorter name cannot claim another recipient's longer or qualified label. - Rebuild authored references when a message is edited, and use the latest authorized snapshot when reopening or forwarding. Rendering/editing can recover qualified identities only from the message's recorded references, not from a key typed into its body. Unresolvable historical names remain literal rather than guessed recipients. - Wrap full-key labels within narrow/zoomed layouts while keeping their complete accessible label and ordinary mention icons. Edit activation waits for the action menu's focus cleanup before focusing the editor. ### Related issue Targets `main`; mention spacing (#7128) is already merged. Split from #7114. This is independent of the #7124 → #7125 remote-invitation stack and does not expand agent eligibility or invitation permissions. The separate Enter-selection suffix issue remains tracked in #7253. ### Testing The desktop unit suite and focused mock-Chromium checks passed on the published integration candidate, including pending-paste selection, edit/forwarding, copy and narrow-layout cases; formatting, types and frontend builds passed. On `0b3b18c0`, 64 focused trust/paste/selection unit tests and six mock-Chromium tests passed with zero browser retries, including actual timeline chip copy → fresh channel paste → send and mismatched-key rejection; TypeScript, changed-file Biome and an isolated E2E build passed. The broader browser run had copy failures before the focused repairs and is not claimed as wholly green. See [live CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7133/checks) for current-head results. No full local `just ci` pass, native/live-relay or cross-browser validation is claimed. To try it: select two same-name recipients, remove one, send, then edit/reopen and forward; only the intended identities should remain. Type an ambiguous name without choosing a suggestion and check that sending retains the draft with an error. Inspect full-key labels in a narrow window at 150% text size, and open Edit and type immediately. *Earlier mock-browser captures, not current-head runtime proof. No new before-state capture; screenshots alone do not prove recipient delivery.* **Clipboard trust:** generated full-key-qualified mentions now retain their exact recipient after copy/paste when the full key matches the clipboard record and community directory/profile state independently vouches for the base alias, including numeric collision suffixes. A qualifier alone does not establish trust. Arbitrary historical labels still cannot always be reconstructed. --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Bad Janet <150b20bdf6130418df9239dd1bd082c71612c8d653b47c277200365b9be215dc@buzz> |

perf(desktop): publish mention sends before waking agents (#7154)
## Summary Cuts perceived agent-mention send latency by publishing the message first and waking the agent afterwards, instead of blocking the send on a synchronous agent start/deploy round-trip. A send that mentions a stopped or undeployed managed agent now shows the message immediately; the wake runs fire-and-forget after the relay accepts the publish. The already-running-agent send also gets faster via revalidation dedupe and NIP-11 caching. ## Changes ### Publish-first agent wake - Wakes for mentioned managed agents are collected during send preparation and flushed fire-and-forget only after `await send(...)` resolves. No start can fire — and no "your message was sent" toast can appear — for a message the relay never accepted; every abort path (cancel, readiness error, publish rejection, dismissed non-member prompt) simply drops the queue. Persona-create wakes ride the pending draft behind the non-member prompt for the same reason. - Each wake is bound to the tenant scope captured at send time: the new `useDetachedAgentStart` hook passes `expectedRelayUrl` + `expectedSignerPubkey` with every start, so a wake that outlives a community switch fails closed at the backend instead of spawning against the new tenant. A wake whose scope has not resolved yet (identity query still loading, blank stored relay URL) is refused with a recoverable toast rather than fired unscoped. - In-flight wakes are deduped through a module-level map keyed by `(relay URL, pubkey)` — the same tenant pair the backend keys on — so two quick sends or two composers cannot double-spawn a cold agent during the seconds-long start window. Entries are deliberately retained across community switches (the key *is* the tenant scope, so a retained entry can never affect another community, and clearing it let an A→B→A round trip deploy a provider agent twice) and self-clean when the start settles. - Wake-failure toasts are fenced to the community they fired in via a module-level scope mirror: a start that settles after a community switch logs instead of rendering community A's failure over community B's UI, and an A→B→A return re-delivers the warning where it is actionable. - Membership attach and access-policy writes stay synchronous, so the harness's first kind-39002 read still sees the channel. ### Replay floor - The send timestamp travels with the wake as `BUZZ_ACP_REPLAY_FLOOR`, threaded through both local spawns (`spawn_agent_child`) and provider deploys (`deploy_to_provider` injects it into `launch.policy_env`), so the harness's startup watermark replays back past the just-published triggering message no matter how long the spawn takes. `buzz-acp` clamps the floor to `[now − 15min, now]`. - The floor is captured at enqueue time, not flush time — the flush runs post-publish, so a flush-time stamp could exceed the message's `created_at` and skip the very message the floor exists to cover. - On local spawns the caller's floor is asserted *after* the user env layering (and the ambient parent-process value is stripped unconditionally), so a saved persona/global/agent env entry cannot shadow this send's floor — mirroring the shadow-strip the provider path applies to `launch.env`. Both halves share one `REPLAY_FLOOR_ENV_VAR` const. ### Send-path latency reductions (already-running agents) - Mention revalidation is deduped: the publish-boundary pass reuses the pre-side-effect authorization pass unless an awaited round-trip actually separated the two (background upload, link-preview settlement, DM expansion, a real access-policy/membership write, or active-huddle enrollment). This preserves the #5681 authorization boundary while making the common send single-pass. - NIP-11 `self` lookups are cached per relay URL for 5 minutes. Only verified values are cached — non-2xx and malformed responses stay retryable — and URL keying keeps community switches from serving another relay's identity. - `applyReusableAgentAccessPolicy` now reports its relay write explicitly (`{ agent, wrote }`) instead of signalling through object identity, so the revalidation trigger above is load-bearing by construction. ### File splits Four files crossed the repository file-size ratchet during this work; one cohesive unit was extracted from each rather than raising a ceiling — `runtime/setup_payload.rs`, `commands/agents_create_fields.rs`, `app_state_accessors.rs`, and `useEnsureAgentMentionsReady.ts`. The ratchet is green at the tip. ### Review follow-ups The three concrete findings from the first review round are fixed at the tip: the pre-publish wake and its false "your message was sent" toast (fixed by queueing wakes behind the publish), the stale cross-community failure toast (fixed by the scope-mirror fence), and the A→B→A duplicate provider deploy (fixed by retaining the tenant-keyed in-flight entries across switches). The fast-path admission-staleness point is answered in the review thread: deferred paths already re-validate at the publish boundary, and the remaining fast-path window is milliseconds against an irreducible network-transit race. Mid-branch send-perf instrumentation was added to attribute the residual spinner latency and reverted once that analysis concluded — it is net-zero in this diff. ### Deferred follow-ups Durable mention catch-up via `event_mentions` (option 2 step 3) and backend deploy-epoch coalescing for the wake paths that do not funnel through `useDetachedAgentStart` (Agents-panel Start, restore, inbound-persona deploys) are intentionally left for separate changes. ## Testing - `cargo test --lib` on desktop/src-tauri: 3054 passed; clippy `-D warnings` + fmt clean - Desktop unit tests: 5856 passed (the 5 failures are the pre-existing `inboxReopenNavigation` / `useRetainedProjectGitViews` baseline, present on origin/main); `tsc --noEmit` and biome clean - Full mentions (87), channels (89), and community-rail (25) Playwright smoke suites against `pnpm build:e2e` bundles, with 3× stress reruns of each new spec - The load-bearing regression specs were confirmed red on the pre-fix code: publish-failure → zero starts and no false toast, the dedupe hold (1 call vs 2), the fail-closed scope refusal, the rail-switch toast fence, and the A→B→A retention spec (1 deploy vs 2) - New unit coverage pins the queue contract (enqueue-time floors, attach-seam queueing), the scope capture and verbatim relay-URL handoff, the dedupe map's keying and settle-then-repermit behavior, the unscoped refusal, the toast-scope mirror, the `{ agent, wrote }` contract, and the replay-floor env layering on both spawn paths 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Matt Toohey <contact@matttoohey.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(composer): align wrapped inline chip fragments (#7242)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Wrapped channel and mention chips in the chat composer now align continuation text with the chip edge while keeping the icon on the first line. **Problem:** Plain composer decorations used absolute icons plus cloned icon-sized padding, so every wrapped fragment inherited an empty icon gap and the icon aligned against the union of all lines. **Solution:** Keep the icon in the first fragment's inline flow and restore normal chip padding on continuation fragments, while explicitly leaving the separate wrapping Buzz-link and sent-message rendering paths unchanged. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/composer.css** Scopes in-flow icon geometry and normal continuation padding to plain composer mention and channel decorations, excluding wrapping atom-link chips and preserving the human-icon vertical correction. **desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts** Adds a rendered narrow-composer regression that checks two fragments, static icon geometry, first-line icon space, and continuation-line alignment to ordinary chip padding. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel in Buzz Desktop. 2. Narrow the chat composer enough for `#all-replies` to wrap. 3. Confirm the channel icon occupies only the first line and `replies` starts at the chip's normal left padding rather than an icon-sized inset. 4. Send or view a long inline Buzz chip in the message list at a constrained width. 5. Confirm its icon remains attached to the leading fragment and its remaining label continues cleanly on following lines. ## Screenshots **Composer — wrapped `#all-replies` channel reference** **Message list — existing wrapped inline-chip rendering preserved** Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): retain automatic mentions only in threads (#7144)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Top-level channel messages now notify only agents explicitly selected for that message, while thread replies visibly retain their addressed agents. **Problem:** Channel-root and thread composers presented the same automatic-mention model even though retained recipients are only predictable within an ongoing thread. That could make a new top-level message notify an agent the sender did not deliberately choose for that message. **Solution:** Make retained audiences a thread-only capability. Root messages remain explicit and one-shot; threads retain visible, removable agent recipients, with the automatic-mention setting exposed directly in the mention picker. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelPane.tsx** Removes persistent audience state from the channel-root composer. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ComposerAddressControls.tsx** Uses the broader **Manage mentions** label because the picker includes people as well as automatic agent controls. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ComposerAddressControls.test.mjs** Locks the updated accessible label and active treatment. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MentionAutocomplete.tsx** Shows the right-aligned automatic-mention setting directly, uses thread-specific copy, preserves keyboard/focus behavior, and keeps the current mention when retention is unchecked. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MentionAutocomplete.test.mjs** Covers the always-visible setting, compact layout, copy, and thread-scoped agent actions. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MessageComposer.tsx** Separates unpinning an agent for future replies from removing its current draft mention. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MessageComposer.types.ts** Narrows retained audience contexts to threads. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/persistentAgentAudienceHosts.test.mjs** Prevents channel-root and new-message hosts from opting back into retained audiences. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useAgentAddressLockPicker.ts** Splits unpin and current-mention removal semantics. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useAgentAddressLockPicker.test.mjs** Verifies unpinning retains the current draft mention. **desktop/src/features/settings/ui/AgentsSettingsPanel.tsx** Describes the preference as addressing selected agents in thread replies. **desktop/tests/e2e/persistent-agent-audience.spec.ts** Moves retained-audience lifecycle coverage to thread composers and adds root, settings, layout, focus, keyboard, unpin, and draft regressions. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MessageComposerAutocompletes.tsx** Preserves composer focus ownership while routing the thread-only controls. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useComposerFocusOwnership.ts** Keeps focus within the composer while interacting with its mention overlay controls. </details> ### Reproduction steps 1. Enable **Automatically mention agents** under agent settings. 2. In a channel root, select an agent and send a message. Confirm the agent is addressed once, no retained-recipient control appears, and the next root message has no agent recipient. 3. Open a thread and select an agent. Confirm the visible recipient persists into later replies. 4. Open **Manage mentions** in the thread composer. Confirm the automatic-mention setting is immediately visible, right-aligned, and labeled **Address selected agents in thread replies**. 5. Uncheck a selected agent. Confirm its current draft mention remains, while later replies no longer retain it automatically. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Rizz <302abe414ca6e3134763d2539bfcf145aea2a63fe5f8455204ed602fd40cf381@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(composer): polish automatic mentions (#6956)
**Category:** improvement **User Impact:** Automatic mentions are easier to turn off and now behave consistently across conversations, settings, drafts, and repeated agent mentions. **Problem:** People found the new automatic mention behavior hard to control: turning it off in Settings did not reliably affect the composer, removing a mention could require also disabling the feature, and root/thread composers could inherit or restore surprising state. Other reported rough edges included only one of several mentioned agents becoming automatic, synthetic mentions leaking into drafts, restored mentions corrupting adjacent text, controls remaining visible in archived channels, and unclear picker feedback. See the [original feedback thread](buzz://message?channel=e62570dd-33ad-42c5-b92b-75f2689f9694&id=c949ec399274fbb0d6633da3f95712e843a67dcada214f63d72f6975b406604b). **Solution:** Polish the existing feature around the problems people encountered, keeping automatic mentions controllable and scoped to the active conversation. | Reported issue | UX fix | | --- | --- | | Turning automatic mentions off in Settings did not reliably update the composer. | The global setting and composer control stay synchronized, and disabling the feature does not clear typed text. | | Removing an automatic mention could require both deleting the mention and turning off the feature. | Removing or unchecking an agent excludes that agent for the current conversation, while explicitly re-adding the agent can restore automatic mention behavior. | | Root and thread composers could share or restore surprising selections. | Each root or thread composer keeps its own automatic audience and restores it when the user returns. A request to enable automatic mentions only in agent threads was considered; this PR keeps them available at the channel root but prevents state from leaking between the two. | | Mentioning multiple agents could leave only one saved as automatic. | Multi-agent selections remain represented in the automatic audience and restored mention chips. | | Automatic mention prefixes could be saved as if the user typed them. | Synthetic prefixes stay out of persisted drafts while authored text is preserved. | | Restored mentions could lose their separator and corrupt continued typing. | Restored multi-word mentions retain their trailing space and place the caret after it. | | Archived channels showed automatic-mention state beside a disabled composer. | Disabled composers hide automatic-mention controls while preserving the draft and restoring state when re-enabled. | | Confirmation and picker behavior made the feature feel difficult to inspect or adjust. | Confirmations dismiss with removed agents, remain open while hovered, and expose the setting before it changes; pin icons, contrast, scope copy, animation, and keyboard toggling are also clarified. | | Agent suggestions and membership state could shift during directory refreshes. | Suggestions and membership labels stay stable during refreshes, while send-time authorization still revalidates access. | ## Open a channel with at least two available agents and enable automatic mentions from the composer mention control. 2. Select multiple agents, remove or uncheck one, and confirm subsequent composer updates keep that agent excluded while the others remain automatic. 3. Open a thread, choose a different automatic audience there, and switch between the thread and root composer; confirm each composer retains only its own choices. 4. Disable automatic mentions and confirm the draft text remains unchanged while automatic chips and controls show the disabled state; re-enable the setting and confirm eligible automatic chips return. 5. Delete an automatic mention chip, then explicitly add the agent again; confirm it immediately returns as an automatic mention without disturbing spaces or the caret, including for a multi-word name. 6. Reload with a saved draft and confirm implicit automatic mentions were not persisted as authored draft text. 7. Use the automatic-mention keyboard shortcut and picker repeatedly; confirm the picker remains open for additional choices and the highlighted agent toggles in place. ## Validation Validated at `34d208b47d64a9816f88e10a46bcfd479e917d75` after rebasing onto `origin/main` (`69096c9a8`): - Desktop unit tests: 5,731 passed, 0 failed. - Desktop TypeScript typecheck: passed. - Desktop E2E build: passed; emitted only existing chunk and dynamic-import warnings. - `pnpm check`: exited successfully; 4 warnings and 5 informational findings are in unrelated files introduced by current main. ## Screenshots/Demos The behavioral changes are covered by the focused desktop E2E scenarios above. fix(desktop): resolve exact typed mentions on space (#6862)
## Summary - Convert an exact, authorized manually typed `@Name` into the existing visual mention chip when plain Space is pressed. - Reuse autocomplete selection so outbound mention pubkeys, agent styling, and address behavior remain identical. - Preserve partial names, longer multi-word names, duplicate-name ranking, modifier keys, and IME composition. Apply access policy when reusing channel agents (#6838)
Reused managed identities now apply their intended inbound-author policy before attachment or startup. An explicit policy wins, then the linked persona policy, then `owner-only`. This covers both channel-agent provisioning and the direct composer autocomplete path. If the policy update fails, attachment, startup, and message send stop. The production Playwright regression starts with a persona-linked agent set to `anyone` with a stale allowlist, then verifies the update happens before membership and startup and that the stored policy is `owner-only`. A small resolver test covers explicit, persona, and default precedence. This closes the stale-policy entry described by [Project Loupe issue #497](https://github.com/project-loupe/audit-buzz/issues/497). The separate Welcome Team reuse path is outside this PR. Checked with the 5,502-test desktop suite, `pnpm check`, `pnpm typecheck`, `pnpm check:file-sizes`, and the focused Playwright composer regression. --------- Signed-off-by: Jordan Mecom <jm@squareup.com> |

fix(desktop-messages): preserve inline agent mentions with persistent addressing (#6793)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Users can place `@Agent` mentions inline anywhere in a message—even when that agent is also persistently addressed—so separate agents can receive separate instructions in the same message. **Problem:** Selecting an agent from the composer mention picker could turn the selection into persistent addressing instead of leaving an inline `@Agent` at the cursor. That made persistent addressing and inline composition mutually exclusive: once the persistent behavior took over, users lost the clear `@Agent A do X, @Agent B do Y` message structure they previously had. **Solution:** Make inline mentioning and persistent addressing independent behaviors: - Ordinary mention selections always insert `@Agent` inline at the current cursor position. - This remains true when the agent is already persistently addressed; the persistent audience never blocks or replaces an inline mention. - If **Automatically mention agents** is enabled, a successfully sent inline mention may additionally make that agent persistent for later messages. Existing saved preferences remain respected. - The dedicated automatic-mention control and primary+Shift+Enter shortcut continue to add or remove persistent addressing directly. - For users without a saved preference, **Automatically mention agents** now defaults off. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/autoPinMentionedAgentsPreference.test.mjs** Updates preference coverage for the default-off behavior while preserving explicit saved choices. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/autoPinMentionedAgentsPreference.ts** Defaults automatic post-send persistence off when no valid preference exists. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useAgentAddressLockPicker.test.mjs** Verifies ordinary picker selections insert inline mentions without changing or pulsing the persistent audience, including when the selected agent is already persistently addressed. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useAgentAddressLockPicker.ts** Keeps ordinary mention selection on the existing inline insertion path while preserving the separate persistent-address controls and shortcut. **desktop/tests/e2e/persistent-agent-audience.spec.ts** Covers separately targeted inline instructions to two agents, signed outgoing recipients, default-off persistence, and explicit opt-in persistence scenarios. </details> ## Reproduction steps ### Inline mentions without persistence 1. Open a channel with at least two available agents and leave **Automatically mention agents** disabled. 2. Use the composer mention picker to insert the first agent, type an instruction, then insert a second agent and type a different instruction. 3. Confirm the draft reads like `@Agent A review this, @Agent B test that` and neither agent appears in the persistent addressed-agent controls. 4. Send the message and confirm both agents are recipients while neither remains persistently addressed for the next draft. ### Inline mentions with persistence 1. Enable **Automatically mention agents**, then mention an agent inline and send successfully. 2. Confirm that agent becomes persistently addressed for later messages. 3. In a new draft, select the same agent from the mention picker again. 4. Confirm a new inline `@Agent` is inserted at the cursor while the agent remains persistently addressed. 5. Confirm the dedicated automatic-mention control and primary+Shift+Enter shortcut can still add or remove persistent addressing directly. ## Demo - **Before:** Persistent addressing could consume an ordinary picker selection, preventing users from placing that agent inline in the message. - **After:** Ordinary selection always produces an inline `@Agent`; persistence is a separate optional behavior that can coexist with inline mentions. ### Related issue N/A — reported through the Buzz feature room. ### Testing At `a4579c0a666f3644abe44271614186d7b9356bf5`: - Post-push hooks passed desktop check, desktop typecheck, and the full desktop unit suite. - The two persistence-focused Playwright smoke scenarios passed after explicitly opting into **Automatically mention agents**. - The one-time multi-agent targeting and persistent-address shortcut Playwright scenarios passed on the feature changes before the final rebase; CI is validating the rebased branch. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop): persist agent addressing across composer messages (#6714)
**Category:** improvement **User Impact:** Agent addressing now stays visible, editable, and consistent across messages, so users can keep talking to the same agents without rebuilding the audience for every send. **Problem:** Agent addressing was transient and easy to lose track of. Inline mention text, persistent audience state, restored drafts, and sent-message rendering could drift apart, making it unclear who would receive the next message. **Solution:** The composer now treats addressed agents as a persistent audience represented by ordinary editable mention chips and a synchronized compact avatar tray. Eligible agent mentions can become persistent immediately, addressing survives sends without flashing empty, and removing or explicitly unpinning an agent updates that state without disturbing unrelated draft text. `Cmd+Shift+M` / `Ctrl+Shift+M` provides a fast way to toggle the current recipient or select the best eligible agent. - Promotes eligible inline agent mentions into persistent addressing when the preference is enabled; human mentions remain unchanged. - Keeps inline chips, restored drafts, persistent recipient state, and the avatar tray synchronized. - Clears an agent's persistent address when its final chip is removed, while explicit unpinning preserves unrelated draft text. - Restores persistent mentions optimistically during send and restores the full draft on failure, avoiding an empty-composer flash. - Deduplicates inline mentions and tag-backed address prefixes in sent messages. - Toggles the current addressed agent with `Cmd+Shift+M` / `Ctrl+Shift+M`, or selects the best eligible agent when none is addressed. - Ranks shortcut selection by recent explicit stream mentions, then active/member/runnable/stable fallbacks; DM participant fan-out does not affect recency. - Adds focused avatar feedback for entry/exit, send bounce, and failure shake, with reduced-motion and narrow-layout support. - Applies the same behavior to main and thread composers while preserving draft restoration, channel switching, and send-race correctness. ### Screenshots #### Light theme The compact tray keeps persistent recipients visible alongside editable mention chips. #### Dark theme Persistent addressing remains clear and legible in the dark composer treatment. ### Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel with an eligible agent and enable persistent agent addressing. 2. Insert an agent mention and confirm it appears as a normal editable chip while the compact avatar tray reflects the same persistent recipient. 3. Send several messages and confirm the agent remains addressed, the mention restores without an empty-composer flash, and sent messages do not duplicate the addressed agent. 4. revert fixed mention highlight (#6716)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Mention chips now follow the active theme without a fixed yellow fill and remain readable across every supported theme. **Problem:** PR #6696 added an opaque yellow treatment to every human and agent mention. Removing that fixed color exposed another issue: some theme accent colors do not provide WCAG AA contrast when also used as normal-size mention text. **Solution:** Remove the fixed yellow treatment and keep the active theme accent as a subtle translucent chip background. Mention labels use a light/dark semantic foreground selected for readable contrast, including hover states. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/markdown.css** Removes the fixed-yellow treatment, retains theme-derived accent backgrounds, and applies an AA-safe semantic foreground to human and agent mention labels in resting and hover states. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/theme.css** Removes the obsolete fixed-yellow tokens and defines light/dark mention foreground values. **desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts** Adds rendered contrast coverage for resting and hover states across every supported syntax theme, compositing translucent chip and ancestor surfaces before checking the 4.5:1 threshold. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a message containing a human or agent mention. 2. Confirm its subtle background follows the active theme accent rather than using yellow. 3. Hover the mention and confirm the accent background strengthens while the label remains readable. 4. Switch between default, light, dark, and custom syntax themes and confirm mention labels remain legible. This is a focused visual rollback of the mention treatment introduced by #6696. The channel notification badge changes from that PR remain intact. --------- Signed-off-by: tulsi <tulsi@block.xyz> |

fix(desktop): polish inline chip states (#6718)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Inline chips now read more consistently, fit cleanly in the composer, and show deleted message links with the same calm muted treatment as unresolved links. **Problem:** Deleted message links looked like destructive actions even though they are informational, while mention chips had slightly uneven vertical spacing, a high-set human icon, and could clip inside the composer. **Solution:** Unify unavailable-state styling, tighten chip spacing, optically align the human icon, and give composer chips enough line height to paint without changing caret behavior. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/markdown.css** Makes chip padding vertically symmetric, moves only the human `@` icon down by 1px, and shares muted colors between deleted and unresolved message links while preserving their separate semantic classes. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/composer.css** Adds a composer-only line height derived from the text size and chip padding so inline chips no longer clip while retaining inline caret behavior. **desktop/tests/e2e/entity-link-recipient-cards.spec.ts** Verifies deleted and unresolved chips have matching computed colors while deleted links retain their tooltip, semantics, and navigation behavior. **desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts** Covers composer chip height, clipping, the human icon's 1px optical offset, and visual capture. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel containing a link to a definitively deleted message and compare it with a transient or unresolved message link; both should use the muted unavailable treatment, while the deleted link still says “Message deleted” and navigates to its fallback destination. 2. Insert a person mention in the composer; the chip should have balanced vertical spacing and paint fully without clipping. 3. Compare a person mention with a channel chip; only the human `@` icon should sit 1px lower. ## Screenshots ### Deleted message link | Before | After | | --- | --- | | | | ### Composer chip polish | Before | After | | --- | --- | | | | ## Validation - `desktop/tests/e2e/entity-link-recipient-cards.spec.ts` + `desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts`: 82/82 passed - Desktop unit suite: 5,397 passed - Formatting and lint checks passed (existing informational warnings only) - Pre-push desktop check, typecheck, and unit tests passed at `0255c3fd49f9244cd727d0dd20c514b3a1812152` --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> |

fix(desktop): restore icon-only remote marker (#6491)
## Summary - restore the agreed icon-only cloud marker for an agent from another setup - retain the accessible `From another Buzz setup` label and native hover title - keep the merged loading, hover/focus persistence, and exact-pubkey routing safeguards unchanged - update the duplicate-agent E2E to require an icon with no visible marker text in both autocomplete and Channel members ## Why PR #6401 accidentally changed the agreed compact icon treatment into a visible `Other setup` badge during review hardening. This is the smallest correction and is intended for the active release. ## Testing - Desktop JS: 5,280/5,280 passed - Desktop TypeScript typecheck passed - E2E build passed - focused duplicate-agent Playwright journey: 1/1 passed - file-size gate passed - changed-file Biome and `git diff --check` passed Carl, an automated reviewer, opened this via Wes's GitHub account. show mention counts in channel notifications (#6696)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Stream and forum channels now show an accessible numeric badge for unread mentions while mention chips remain clear in every theme. **Problem:** Mention notifications contributed to the app and Dock badge, but inactive stream and forum rows only became bold, making it difficult to see where multiple mentions were waiting. Mention styling and generic destructive colors could also lose contrast or visual meaning in some themes. **Solution:** Use the same app-badge projection for non-DM channel mention counts, while preserving regular unread bolding, thread activity dots, DM counts, and manual unread behavior. Dedicated notification and opaque mention-highlight tokens keep the new treatments stable and readable across syntax themes. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/channels/useUnreadChannels.ts** Projects app-badge-eligible mention and broadcast counts into stream and forum channel rows while retaining DM-specific counting and manual-unread semantics. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/SidebarSection.tsx** Renders an accessible numeric notification pill on inactive non-DM channels and preserves the thread activity dot fallback. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/markdown.css** Applies the shared opaque yellow highlight to human and agent mention chips, including hover treatment. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/theme.css** Adds fixed notification and mention-highlight tokens with theme-independent contrast. **desktop/tailwind.config.js** Exposes the notification token pair through semantic Tailwind utilities. **desktop/tests/e2e/badge.spec.ts** Covers aggregated mention counts, broadcasts, unchanged unread tiers, exact accessible text, and badge contrast under an adversarial theme. **desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts** Covers human and agent mention styling, hover behavior, dark mode, and WCAG text contrast. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a stream or forum channel, then navigate to another channel. 2. Receive two messages that mention you in the inactive channel. 3. Confirm the inactive row is bold and shows a red `2` pill matching the two notifications added to the app or Dock badge. 4. Receive a regular channel message and confirm the row only becomes bold, without a numeric pill. 5. Receive a reply in an interested thread and confirm the channel retains its activity dot instead of a mention count. 6. Switch between light and dark themes and confirm human and agent mention chips remain yellow with near-black readable text, including on hover. ## Screenshots Screenshots are posted in the PR discussion using immutable repository-hosted image URLs. feat(desktop-messages): keep agents addressed across messages (#6315)
**Category:** new-feature **User Impact:** Users can keep selected agents addressed across consecutive messages without retyping their handles. **Problem:** Repeated conversations with agents require manually typing the same mentions on every turn, which adds friction and makes recipients easy to omit. **Solution:** The composer can now keep agents automatically addressed per channel, either from the mention controls or after a successful inline mention. Addressed agents remain visible in the toolbar, apply to channel threads, survive send failures safely, and never cross community boundaries. ## Changes <details> <summary>File changes</summary> Open a channel with one or more agents and open the mention picker from the composer. 2. Select an agent for automatic mentions, then send several messages without retyping the handle; confirm the agent remains in the composer control and receives each message. 3. Mention another agent inline, send successfully, and confirm the agent becomes automatically addressed; use the notification's Undo action to reverse it. 4. Open a thread in the same channel and confirm the same addressed agents are available there. 5. Remove an agent from the composer control and confirm later messages stop addressing it. 6. Switch communities and confirm addressed agents do not carry into the other community. ## Screenshots All states below use the dark Buzz theme with a selected lilac accent. ### Addressed composer Selected agents stay visible at the composer ingress without adding handles to the draft. ### Open mention menu The @ ingress opens the existing mention menu and shows which agents are already addressed. ### Mention options The inline options pane controls whether a successful one-time agent mention carries into later messages. ### Agent settings The same preference is available in **Settings → Agents → Conversations**. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Rizz <302abe414ca6e3134763d2539bfcf145aea2a63fe5f8455204ed602fd40cf381@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(composer): preserve caret when inserting mentions mid-message (#6531)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Users can insert mentions earlier in a draft and continue typing without the caret corrupting the rest of the message. **Problem:** Caret correction ran after every document change, so typing a mention before existing text repeatedly advanced across the mention separator and interleaved spaces into the draft. **Solution:** Limit correction to the autocomplete settlement it was designed for, with transaction-level and browser-level regression coverage for known and unregistered mentions. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/mentionHighlightExtension.ts** Restricts trailing-space caret advancement to an armed autocomplete settlement instead of every document change. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/mentionHighlightExtension.test.mjs** Exercises the real ProseMirror plugin state and verifies mid-draft mention typing, unknown tokens, end-of-message typing, and completed-mention separators. **desktop/tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts** Reproduces the reported composer workflow in Chromium and covers the same corruption path for an unregistered `@token`. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel and enter `hello world` in the composer. 2. Move the caret between `hello` and ` world`. 3. Type ` @bo`, select `bob` from autocomplete, and continue typing `abc`. 4. Confirm the composer reads `hello @bob abc world` with the caret after `abc`. 5. Repeat with an unregistered token such as ` @zzq` and confirm the existing text remains intact. ## Before / After | Before | After | | --- | --- | | Typing after a mid-draft mention walks the caret through the existing message. | Continued typing stays after the inserted mention. | | | | --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Mongo <5398c5fd039b963ce132b3e078e7c4af097dd997517bb5e14c2682fe68c25197@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

polish(desktop): finish Projects navigation and context chrome (#6429)
## Summary After #6396, Projects still split chrome across the workspace header, a copy-link control, and a labeled Actions group that mixed people, create, and metadata. This PR finishes that surface: the right-hand context box is unlabeled actions plus a Details group, people stacks and contribution heatmaps are gone from that box, Create review sits with Create task, and the top chrome is terminal / chat / info with no copy-link. Sent project context collapses to a pill, and review file diffs keep the last good git view instead of flashing empty while queries refetch. This also lands the remaining navigation polish that followed Part 3: overview and list presentation, readme and commit layout, and opening the latest matching conversation from the Channels tab without leaving the project. ### Related issue N/A. Related: #6396 ## Testing - Walked Files, Tasks, Reviews, task/review detail, overview tabs, and chrome chat vs info in the running desktop app - Pre-push: desktop typecheck, unit tests, Tauri checks, and file-size gate passed - Updated Projects smoke specs for the new context groups, Create review, chrome order, and removed copy-link control - Merged current `origin/main`; one conflict in discussion-channel rows kept conversation-panel navigation and took main's bounded channel-name lookup ## Post-Deploy Monitoring & Validation - validate Projects workspace chrome, context box, and review file diffs in the first staging Desktop session - healthy signals: context box shows unlabeled actions then Details, chat toggle sits between terminal and info, review diffs stay populated across selection changes - failure signals: missing Create review, restored heatmap/people in the context box, or empty Files Changed while the review is still selected; mitigate by reverting this PR --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> |

Fix cross-owner relay agent mentions in owner-only builds (#6338)
## Summary - keep `BUZZ_BUILD_AGENT_ACCESS_OWNER_ONLY` scoped to Desktop-managed local start and provider deployment boundaries - stop filtering independently operated relay agents by viewer/owner equality in native discovery, autocomplete, and send-time revalidation - preserve NIP-OA ownership verification, owner-authored `respond_to` policy, shared-channel membership, and fail-closed send-time checks - replace the packaged-build regression expectation with coverage for cross-owner allowlisted and `respond_to=anyone` relay agents, including the emitted agent `p` tag Fixes #6329. ## Why The packaged 0.5.17 build reused its managed-runtime owner-only capability in relay-agent mention admission. That silently hid correctly configured shared agents owned by another operator, even when their verified policy explicitly authorized the viewer. The capability is intended to constrain runtimes Desktop starts or deploys, not external relay agents. ## Validation - `pnpm --dir desktop test` (5093 passed) - `cargo test --manifest-path desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.toml relay_directory --lib` (4 passed, 2 ignored real-relay tests) - focused agent mention unit tests (35 passed) - Desktop TypeScript/E2E build - focused Playwright mention tests (3 passed) - pre-commit formatting hooks - pre-push branch-skew, file-size, Desktop check/typecheck/unit tests, and Tauri checks - `git diff --check` --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): distinguish duplicate agent devices (#6337)
## Summary - distinguish same-name owned agents by management provenance: `managed here` for Desktop-managed identities and `managed elsewhere` for same-owner relay identities - show provenance only when same-name suggestions collide, alongside each identity's short npub - preserve exact-pubkey selection and keep unique-agent autocomplete unchanged - add a composed mock-bridge regression covering relay owner propagation, rendered labels, keyboard/pointer selection, and outbound mention pubkeys ## Testing - focused mention suggestion mapping and label tests - composed Desktop E2E passes for both same-name identities and exact-pubkey routing - causal mutation verified: replacing the relay candidate's `ownerPubkey` with `null` makes the composed E2E fail on the `managed elsewhere` assertion - pre-push Desktop checks: Biome, TypeScript, file-size ratchet, and 5,103 Desktop tests ## Manual test With two same-name owned agents visible in a channel, type `@<name>`. Duplicate rows identify the identities as `agent · managed here` and `agent · managed elsewhere`, include distinct short npubs, and selecting either routes the mention to that row's exact pubkey. --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): bound remote agent mention authorization (#6224)
## Summary - add a targeted native `revalidate_relay_agents(pubkeys, channel_id)` command for send-time authorization - scope membership discovery to the destination channel and selected pubkeys before runtime/profile/policy queries - replace full relay-directory rebuilds with targeted checks before agent side effects and again at publication - preserve managed-agent evidence independently and retain internal owner-only filtering ## Security and trust boundary The targeted command reuses the existing authoritative chain: 1. relay-signed kind:39002 membership scoped by viewer and destination `d` tag 2. agent runtime directory event 3. agent-signed owner profile verification 4. owner-signed managed policy 5. internal-build `owner_only` filtering before policy lookup and on final results Relay-only agents are dropped on any targeted directory failure. Fresh managed-agent evidence remains valid when the unrelated relay directory fails. ## Validation - pre-push gate passed: branch skew, Desktop check/typecheck/tests, Tauri checks, Rust tests, and mobile tests - Desktop unit suite: 4,992 passed - targeted Rust relay-directory tests passed - focused Playwright mention-send acceptance passed - relay-only send emits the expected `p` tag - exactly two targeted `revalidate_relay_agents` calls on the already-member send path: pre-side-effect and pre-publication - no `list_relay_agents` call on that send path - relay failure and revocation remain fail-closed - internal owner-only mode hides other-owned agents - manual local Desktop testing by Wes: mention sends felt materially improved ## Notes This intentionally does not clear the composer early or add an optimistic timeline row. Publication still waits for fresh authorization. --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Princess Donut <68157ebd23b3897c1991015c3038658ea916200c67d3a54620b0754d1b92f6e0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): restore release agent mentions (#6182)
## Summary - preserve OSS relay-agent mentions under shared channel and agent policy - restrict owner-only release builds to relay agents with cryptographically verified ownership matching the current user - remove the remote policy replay loop that repeatedly rebuilt the relay directory, while retaining focused polling and send-time revalidation - query relay profiles and managed policies by exact author coordinates to prevent noisy events from crowding out valid agents ## Diagnosis The packaged Block release compiles `BUZZ_DESKTOP_BUILD_AGENT_ACCESS_OWNER_ONLY`, while ordinary OSS/dev builds do not. Relay-discovered agents were filtered as if all remote agents were outside that owner-only boundary, so a same-owner agent running on another machine disappeared in the release even though the OSS path could look healthy. The fix uses the NIP-OA-authenticated owner from the relay directory as the cross-machine proof. Internal builds admit only verified same-owner agents and fail closed for missing, mismatched, stale/revoked, or unavailable ownership evidence. OSS builds retain shared channel/policy behavior. ## Validation - desktop focused unit coverage: 39 tests passed - desktop typecheck and focused static checks passed - focused Tauri Rust policy/directory tests passed - production-style E2E build succeeded - targeted Playwright mention scenarios passed: - owner-only release hides other-owned relay agent - owner-only release shows verified same-owner relay agent - OSS build shows shared `anyone` agent - repository pre-push hook passed on `4d40b6e5bb032f2c0755127172c50dee213f65a3`: - branch skew - desktop check and typecheck - desktop tests - Rust tests - Tauri checks - mobile tests --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop-messages): render compact Buzz permalink chips (#5638)
**Category:** improvement **User Impact:** Buzz channel, message, repository, pull request, and issue links now open reliably and display recognizable context in the desktop app. **Problem:** Buzz links could appear as raw or ambiguous URLs, and navigation links received during startup or community transitions could be dropped before the UI was ready. Repository and issue shares in particular required hover context to understand at a glance. **Solution:** Queue desktop channel/message navigation until the UI is ready, then render bare Buzz permalinks as icon-prefixed chips with concise entity context while preserving user-authored Markdown labels as ordinary links. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src-tauri/src/deep_link.rs** Adds validated channel-link parsing and a deduplicated, acknowledged queue so navigation survives frontend startup. **desktop/src-tauri/src/lib.rs** Registers the pending-navigation state and commands with the desktop application. **desktop/src/features/communities/useCommunityInit.ts** Resets queued navigation safely across community boundaries without leaking stale destinations. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/channelLink.test.mjs** Covers valid, malformed, and canonical channel permalink forms. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/channelLink.ts** Defines strict parsing and detection for `buzz://channel/<uuid>` links. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/composerMessageLinkNode.test.mjs** Extends composer-node coverage for normalized Buzz link content. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/composerMessageLinkNode.ts** Keeps composer link-node handling aligned with the expanded Buzz link surface. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkChannelDeepLinks.test.mjs** Verifies bare channel URLs become renderable deep-link nodes without touching code. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkChannelDeepLinks.ts** Transforms eligible bare channel links into dedicated Markdown nodes. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkEntityLinks.test.mjs** Covers bare repository, pull-request, and issue detection and code-span exclusions. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkEntityLinks.ts** Adds dedicated Markdown nodes for bare Buzz project entities. **desktop/src/shared/deep-link.test.mjs** Exercises queued navigation, acknowledgement, serialization, and community-switch behavior. **desktop/src/shared/deep-link.ts** Serializes pending deep-link drains and acknowledges destinations only after successful navigation. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/markdown.css** Aligns permalink icon geometry and spacing with agent mention chips. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown.test.mjs** Adds integration coverage for every permalink chip, authored labels, fallbacks, icons, and static rendering. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown.tsx** Routes channel and entity nodes through the shared presentation path while preserving authored link text. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/BuzzLinkChip.tsx** Introduces the shared interactive/static permalink chip and authored-label inline-link components. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/ChannelDeepLink.tsx** Renders channel shares and references with Hash icons, names, and shortened-ID fallbacks. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/MessageLinkPill.tsx** Renders ordinary message shares with message icons and channel/message context while retaining sent-from-thread behavior. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/entityLinks.tsx** Maps repositories, pull requests, and issues to Projects-aligned icons and contextual labels. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/nodeCache.ts** Includes entity-link rendering in cached Markdown node handling. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/utils.ts** Allows validated channel links through the Buzz URL transform. **desktop/src/shared/useMessageDeepLinks.ts** Drains queued navigation links safely and clears them during teardown. **desktop/src/testing/e2eBridge.ts** Extends the mock bridge with pending-navigation command behavior. **desktop/tests/e2e/community-rail.spec.ts** Verifies queued links do not cross community boundaries. **desktop/tests/e2e/navigation.spec.ts** Covers channel/message deep-link navigation during startup and active sessions. **desktop/tests/helpers/bridge.ts** Adds reusable deep-link mock state and acknowledgement helpers. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Run the desktop app and open a channel containing bare `buzz://channel`, `buzz://message`, `buzz://repo`, `buzz://pr`, and `buzz://issue` URLs. 2. Confirm each bare URL renders as one cohesive chip with a type icon, a useful name or shortened identifier, and no duplicated channel `#` character. 3. Add an authored Markdown link such as `[design discussion](buzz://issue?...)` and confirm the supplied label remains an ordinary link rather than becoming a chip. 4. Select channel and message links and confirm they navigate correctly in warm and cold-start states. ## Screenshots / demos Houston dark theme with custom purple accent (`#a855f7`), captured from rebased visual implementation `ad411cc06`; current head `0aafa144f` only adjusts E2E expectations for the visible mention-label behavior shown here. **Composer — channel, message, repository, pull request, and issue pills** **Message list — channel, message, repository, pull request, and issue pills** --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): enforce agent mention authorization at send boundaries (#5681)
## Summary - allow channel-member remote/headless agents only with current kind `10100` directory evidence, while stale member identities remain hidden - fail closed while managed/relay directories load, error, or background-refetch across channel, forum, and cached autocomplete surfaces - revalidate agent mention authorization immediately before normal sends and message-edit saves, including after deferred uploads - in owner-only builds, fetch fresh authoritative profile ownership at send time and deny missing, changed-owner, or unavailable proofs - preserve human mention tags when agent authorization is revoked or unknown Supersedes #5536 because its contributor-fork head cannot be updated by maintainers. ## Validation Exact head: `7278cdd5fbcee676c7b858ea098503c62eeeff0d` - mandatory pre-push suites passed: desktop check/typecheck/tests, Rust tests, mobile tests, desktop Tauri checks, branch-skew - desktop unit tests: 4,732 passed - focused edit/ownership regressions: 8 passed - focused mention E2E: 5 passed (remote positive, stale-member negative, directory error, pre-send revocation, mid-send revocation) - file-size ratchet passed One first focused E2E batch had a timing-only miss where the send click did not emit; the isolated rerun passed. One separate pre-push attempt hit the existing randomized passphrase separator test; the successful exact-head push reran and passed the mandatory suite. --------- Signed-off-by: JDiz00 <174381550+JDiz00@users.noreply.github.com> Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: JDiz00 <174381550+JDiz00@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): allow shared agent mentions (#4913)
## Summary - admit relay-discovered agents to autocomplete when their response policy authorizes the viewer - require authorization in the exact active stream/forum channel for mentions, while keeping community-wide discovery for member invitation - fail closed for relay-only agents in DMs and unresolved composer contexts - re-authorize cached autocomplete rows after policy/channel changes so stale agent suggestions cannot leak back in - preserve managed-agent behavior and explicitly reject stale agent-marked channel members absent from both live directories ## Validation - `pnpm --dir desktop test` — 4,288 passed - `pnpm --dir desktop typecheck` - `pnpm --dir desktop check` - `pnpm --dir desktop build:e2e` - focused Playwright mention matrix — 12 passed - focused Playwright member-invitation matrix — 2 passed - pre-push hooks after rebase to current `origin/main` — desktop check and 4,288 tests passed - independent correctness/privacy re-review cleared with no remaining blocker ## Related competing PRs This supersedes or overlaps #2333, #3056, #4242, #4137, #2314, #4058, and #2605. This version adds exact-channel authorization, fail-closed DM/context handling, cached-row reauthorization, forum coverage, outbound mention-tag coverage, explicit stale-member coverage, and add-member discovery coverage. feat(desktop): auto-enable huddle transcription for agents (#3180)
## Context Before this change, every huddle initialized with transcription off. Joining or adding an agent did not enable it, so the agent could not receive spoken conversation until a person clicked the transcript control. Starting a huddle from an agent DM could also omit that agent, and adding an agent who already belonged to the parent channel could attempt an unnecessary role change and show a warning. Agent detection uses authoritative huddle membership. A participant counts as an agent when the ephemeral membership identifies it with the `bot` role, or when the existing agent identity model identifies the participant in an agent DM. ## Summary Buzz now enables transcription once when the first authoritative agent is present. After that initial automatic action, explicit user control is authoritative: manual ON or OFF survives membership refreshes, reconnects, and UI remounts. Removing the last agent does not change the current transcription state. Agent-DM huddles enroll the agent automatically. Adding an agent who already belongs to the parent channel preserves the existing parent role and completes without a role-mutation warning. | Scenario | Before | With this change | | --- | --- | --- | | First authoritative agent joins or is hydrated | Transcription stays off | Transcription turns on once | | User explicitly turns transcription on or off | Manual control exists without an agent policy | The explicit choice suppresses later automatic changes | | Last agent leaves | No defined agent-presence behavior | The current transcription state remains unchanged | | Huddle starts from an agent DM | The agent can be omitted | The known agent is enrolled automatically | | Added agent already belongs to the parent channel | Buzz can attempt a role rewrite and warn | Existing parent membership and role are preserved | | Transcription is active | The control is not visually distinct | The control is highlighted and exposes `aria-pressed=true` | ## Changes - Derive agent presence from authoritative bot-role huddle membership and known agent-DM identity. - Apply the one-time auto-enable rule during create, join, membership hydration, reconnect, pipeline startup, and local agent addition. - Preserve explicit user state and use huddle-generation guards so stale asynchronous work cannot alter a replacement huddle. - Keep backend and React transcription state synchronized, with a visible and accessible active control. - Enroll known agent-DM participants and make parent-channel membership updates idempotent. - Cover hydration ordering, reconnects, remounts, explicit OFF, last-agent removal, DM enrollment, existing membership, and active styling. ## Related issue None found. ## Testing Manual validation in `pending-seed` confirmed the product contract: 1. Started a huddle from the owned, running Fizz agent DM. 2. Confirmed the authoritative roster contained the human and Fizz as an agent. 3. Confirmed transcription enabled without clicking the control: `Stop transcript`, `aria-pressed=true`, with the highlighted active background. 4. Turned transcription off and confirmed `Start transcript`, `aria-pressed=false` remained stable. 5. Removed Fizz while transcription was off and confirmed the state stayed off. 6. Left the huddle cleanly. ## Screenshots The same control has distinct active and inactive states. ## Reviewer-reproducible examples From a fresh checkout: ```bash pnpm --dir desktop build:e2e pnpm --dir desktop exec playwright test tests/e2e/huddle-transcription.spec.ts --project=smoke pnpm --dir desktop exec playwright test tests/e2e/mentions.spec.ts --project=smoke --grep "system agent profile exposes owned agent actions|system agent avatar exposes owned agent actions|owned bot profile exposes message and huddle actions|owned agent mention profile exposes message and huddle actions" ``` The huddle scenario exercises initial authoritative hydration, exactly one automatic enable, explicit OFF persistence, unchanged state after last-agent removal, newer events winning over delayed hydration, agent-DM enrollment, and idempotent parent membership. It also asserts `aria-pressed` and distinct computed active styling. --------- Signed-off-by: John Tennant <jtennant@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: npub1jh9wn95s0472h86ahapupaf7m6kx4v9sx2n0atj2hltcfer8k06s5n3pyf <95cae996907d7cab9f5dbf43c0f53edeac6ab0b032a6feae4abfd784e467b3f5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: npub1jh9wn95s0472h86ahapupaf7m6kx4v9sx2n0atj2hltcfer8k06s5n3pyf <95cae996907d7cab9f5dbf43c0f53edeac6ab0b032a6feae4abfd784e467b3f5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): channel topic and membership metadata cleanup (#3642)
First slice of #2216, scoped to the system/status lines in the chat timeline. ## Why Two problems on the same surface. **Clearing a channel topic renders as empty quotes.** The relay reports a clear as a `topic_changed` event carrying an empty string — there's no separate "cleared" event type. So the timeline printed: > Alice > changed the topic to “” which reads as if the topic were *set to* two quote marks. Same for purpose. **The membership caption reads like a headline, not a metadata line.** `title` and `action` render on separate lines — the member's name sits in the header row with the avatar and timestamp, and the caption sits beneath it. So the caption was "was added by Alice Chen" standing alone under a name, while its siblings on that same line are "joined the channel" and "left the channel". ## What - Blank, missing, or whitespace-only topic/purpose now reads **"cleared the channel topic"** / **"cleared the channel purpose"**. - Membership captions drop "was": **"added by Alice Chen"**, matching "joined the channel" and "left the channel". - The wording moves to `lib/systemEventCopy.ts` as a pure function, so it's assertable in a unit test instead of only reachable through the DOM. That also removes two JSX fragments from `SystemMessageRow.tsx`, taking it 911 → 900 lines. ## Two E2E assertions this exposed Both were measuring something other than what they claimed, and the copy change tipped them over. Neither is a product bug, but both would have failed the next person too. 1. **`mentions.spec.ts:1245`** asserted a button was un-underlined while the mouse was still parked from a previous `hover()`. Any reflow — new rows, scroll-to-bottom, a different text wrap — can slide that button under the stationary pointer, so the assertion measured *where the mouse happened to be* rather than the resting style. Dropping four characters changed the text wrap, changed the row height, changed the scroll offset, and the pointer landed on it. Now parks the pointer off-target first. 2. **`mentions.spec.ts:1253`** used a bare `role=tooltip` lookup. Once the first tooltip animates out while the second opens, two elements match and strict mode trips. Now scopes to the open tooltip via `:not([data-state="closed"])`. ## Deliberately out of scope - **Timestamps.** The day divider, per-message clock times, the Inbox thread pane, and the inbox list have three divergent date implementations and none fully match the writing standard's Today/Yesterday/weekday/date progression. That's its own slice of #2216. - **Whose avatar shows.** An addition puts the *added* member in the header; a removal puts the *remover* there. Possibly intentional, but it's a design question, not copy. - **`the channel` vs `this channel`.** joined/left/removed say "the channel"; created/archived/unarchived say "this channel". Worth normalizing, but it touches lines this PR otherwise leaves alone. ## Validation - `pnpm check`, `pnpm typecheck` — clean - Unit: **3781/3781**, including 6 new tests in `systemEventCopy.test.mjs` covering set/blank/undefined/null/whitespace for both fields, plus a guard that no variant can emit empty quotes - Smoke E2E `mentions` + `messaging`: **85/85** - The previously fragile test run with `--repeat-each=5`: **5/5** Signed-off-by: Clay Delk <clay.delk@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |
