Projects v3: unify sharing, discussions, and issue ownership (#5792)
## Summary Projects v3 makes repository work shareable, discussion-aware, and easier to scan in one coherent workspace. People can copy canonical links, reopen the exact workspace tab, understand issue and pull-request context at a glance, find related channel conversations, and assign or unassign issues across Desktop and CLI. - **Unified workspace** — top-level sections sit above repository controls in one rounded workspace, with navigation positioned close to the page heading. README and Files retain branch selection; every section has a labeled icon header, and Issues and Pull Requests expose creation from a consistent right-aligned action. - **Repository management** — the repository selector is always available, including single-repository projects. Its integrated add flow lets project owners create a repository manually or select an existing repository without a separate toolbar button. - **Readable work-item lists** — issue and pull-request rows use plain-language context instead of opaque metadata. Files, commits, issues, pull requests, channels, and contributors share consistent row density and right-aligned timestamps, while deterministic fallback-avatar colors keep participants distinct on light backgrounds. Inbox pull-request metadata wraps between complete phrases and truncates long channel names instead of compressing copy into narrow columns. - **Reliable entity links** — projects, repositories, issues, pull requests, and commits have canonical `buzz://` links, preview cards, OS deep-link routing, and tab-aware navigation. Reopening the same link re-applies its destination instead of leaving the user on a locally selected tab. - **Related conversations** — repository and work-item views surface channels discussing the current entity, including participants, channel navigation, message context, and an explicit notice when discovery reaches its 500-result cap. - **Reversible issue ownership** — trusted assignment and unassignment events work across Desktop, Tauri, `buzz-sdk`, and `buzz issues`. Assignees appear in project views and the assigned inbox, while authorized users can remove assignments directly from the assignee row. Assignment state is derived chronologically from labeled Nostr notes. Issue authors and repository owners may change any assignee; other users may only assign or unassign themselves. Shared golden fixtures keep entity-link grammar and validation aligned across TypeScript and Rust. The branch also updates `webbrowser` to the patched release for RUSTSEC-2026-0257. ### Related issue N/A. ### Testing - [x] `just ci` — formatting, lint, typechecking, unit tests, and builds passed - [x] Full pre-push suite — organization, branch-skew, Desktop checks, typechecking, and tests passed on the latest push - [x] `cargo test -p buzz-cli` and focused `buzz-sdk` assignment tests passed - [x] Focused Tauri recipient-note and 500-result search-limit tests passed - [x] Desktop entity-link and issue-assignment unit tests passed - [x] Playwright smoke coverage passed for assignment, repeated entity-link navigation, repository create/select flows, section headers and actions, timestamp alignment, timeline icons, sentence-style issue/PR metadata, header spacing, avatar contrast, and Inbox metadata at stacked and side-rail breakpoints - [ ] Manual staging pass: link round-trips, Channels tab, assignment flows, and inbox routing ### Screenshots Pull requests explain who opened the request, where it lives, and which branch it comes from; fallback avatars remain visually distinct. Issues use the same sentence-style hierarchy while keeping status and recency easy to scan. The wide Inbox detail keeps author, timestamp, and origin context readable beside its metadata rail. History flattened into a single signed-off commit on latest main; tree verified byte-identical (`git merge-tree`) to merging the original branch into main. --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Wintermute <3f1797424fd9ad6653a83665c660517777cd7f8c228c0d5907f49e01537f3ca5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(link-previews): send while previews finish in background (#5697)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Messages send immediately after submission while link previews finish in the background, with an option to skip delayed preview preparation. **Problem:** Waiting for link-preview metadata or snapshot uploads kept the composer occupied after users pressed Send, while races between completion, timeout, and cancellation risked inconsistent payloads. **Solution:** Freeze and promote speculative preview work into a bounded background send task, clear the composer immediately, and publish exactly once with prepared previews or gracefully without them when skipped, failed, or timed out. https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/987d2f2c-679f-473a-965f-dfb279951e52 <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/communities/useCommunityInit.ts** Resets pending link-preview preparation when community context changes so work cannot cross community boundaries. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/linkPreviewPreparationStore.ts** Adds the coordinator-owned preparation state machine, bounded fallback, Skip behavior, and exactly-once terminal publication handling. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ComposerUploadProgressOverlay.tsx** Extends floating background progress UI to include link-preview preparation. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ComposerUploadProgressPill.tsx** Adds the preparing-link-preview label and Skip action to the progress pill. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MessageComposer.tsx** Hands submitted preview work to the background coordinator and clears the composer immediately. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/messageComposerAutoSubmit.test.mjs** Updates auto-submit unit coverage for coordinator-owned preview preparation. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/messageComposerAutoSubmit.ts** Allows submit to promote unfinished preview work instead of blocking composer submission. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useComposerLinkPreviews.tsx** Starts preview work speculatively and exposes frozen preparation jobs for adoption by the send flow. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useMentionSendFlow.helpers.ts** Carries prepared preview tags through the mention and media payload helpers. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useMentionSendFlow.ts** Integrates prepared preview tags into final message publication. **desktop/src/shared/lib/useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts** Exposes the in-flight metadata promise so promoted work can be adopted rather than restarted. **desktop/tests/e2e/messaging.spec.ts** Covers immediate submit, upload handoff, Skip/completion races, failure fallback, auto-send, and exactly-once publication. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Enter a supported link and press Send while preview metadata or snapshot upload is still pending. 2. Confirm the composer clears immediately and the floating progress UI shows **Preparing link preview · Skip**. 3. Let preparation finish and confirm one message is published with its preview. 4. Repeat and choose **Skip**; confirm one message is published without waiting for the preview. 5. Simulate preview failure or timeout and confirm the message still publishes once without preview tags. ## Validation - TypeScript, Biome/format, file-size, px-text, and pubkey checks - Full desktop unit suite: 4,734 passed - Focused Playwright messaging suite: 5 passed - Push hooks at `86c0aa7de2ff81b79286c99bf23db12345adc6ca`: desktop check, typecheck, and tests passed --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(link-preview): refetch a link when it re-enters the composer (#5510)
### Overview **Category:** fix **User Impact:** When a user re-pastes (or finishes typing) a link that previously failed to load a preview, the composer now refetches it immediately and can never send a snapshot preview built from the old, stale metadata. **Problem:** The link-preview cache is shared with passive message-list scroll, so a URL that resolved to a negative result (a hard `null` miss or a transient fetch failure) stayed cached and re-usable. Re-pasting that exact link into the composer served the stale negative and never refetched. Worse, the stale metadata was still `snapshotReady`, so a fast clear-then-repaste could attach a **stale snapshot preview tag** to the sent message — a preview that no longer matched the link. **Solution:** A freshly-entering link is forced to refetch, and the composer is fenced against ever shipping a tag built from pre-re-entry metadata. This closes three distinct races surfaced over successive review passes: (1) the shared negative cache being reused on re-entry; (2) the resolver's debounce swallowing a fast clear+re-paste so the re-entry was invisible and the stale tag stayed sendable; and (3) an in-flight media upload started from the stale metadata publishing its tag after fresh metadata had already arrived. Healthy cached hits are never touched (instant card, no redundant fetch), and passive message-list scroll — which never opts in — keeps riding the shared cache exactly as before. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/shared/lib/useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts** Adds a loader `invalidateNegative(href)` that drops a cached negative result (resolved `null` or transient fail) while leaving healthy hits and in-flight promises alone, and a `refetchNewNegatives` option that invalidates each newly-present href's negative entry before the peek/load loop reads the cache. Also adds an optional `liveHrefs` input so newness is judged against the caller's LIVE (undebounced) content — a debounce-swallowed leave/re-entry of the same URL still counts as new. Because the hook retains its own resolved metadata (the render that scheduled the effect already read the stale negative from it), it also clears its OWN negative key for every re-entered href, so the link renders as pending until the fresh load wins. `buzz://` entity links are skipped (they resolve off the relay, not this cache). **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useComposerLinkPreviews.tsx** Opts the composer into `refetchNewNegatives` and feeds it the live hrefs. Detects a same-URL re-entry at render time (React batches the empty→repaste renders, so an effect keyed on the live set never observes the transition), then blocks the re-entered href until the resolver's forced refetch visibly cycles through pending: its stale ready tag is dropped from state and excluded from the sendable output until a fresh result re-tags. Only the sendable negative case (`fallback`) is blocked; a healthy (`image`) re-entry keeps its instant card. Adds a per-href upload generation token (`uploadsRef` becomes `Map<href, generation>`): a live re-entry bumps the generation, the upload effect's dedup guard and completion are generation-aware, so an in-flight upload from stale metadata cannot publish its tag after settling and a fresh upload can start even while the superseded one is still in flight. **desktop/src/shared/lib/useResolvedLinkPreviews.test.mjs** Adds resolver-level regressions: `invalidateNegative` drops a cached miss (next load refetches) but preserves a healthy hit (no redundant fetch); transient failure → URL removed → re-entered renders pending/not-`snapshotReady` until a successful retry; and the retained-negative + shared in-flight-fetch + re-entry interleaving clears the local negative regardless of the shared entry's shape. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useComposerLinkPreviews.test.mjs** Adds composer-hook regressions driving the REAL hook through the hostile gestures: a fast clear+re-paste inside the debounce window drops the stale tag and holds Send pending until a fresh tag carrying the newly-fetched media lands; and a stale in-flight upload held across the clear+re-paste and fresh-metadata resolution cannot publish its pre-clear tag, while a fresh upload starts and its tag wins. </details> ### Reproduction Steps 1. Paste a link whose preview fails to resolve (force a transient fetch failure) so the composer shows a blank/collapsed card. 2. Clear the composer and re-paste the same link (quickly, within the ~350ms debounce window). 3. Observe the preview refetches immediately rather than reusing the stale negative result, and Send stays disabled until a fresh tag lands. 4. Send the message and confirm the attached preview tag reflects the fresh fetch, never the stale pre-clear metadata. 5. Confirm passive message-list scroll of already-resolved links still shows cards instantly with no extra fetches. ### Notes Scope grew across three review passes from the original single resolver opt-in into a full defense against shipping stale snapshot tags on link re-entry — see the scope-adjustment comment on this PR for the detail. Stacked on #5245 (`tho/link-preview-snapshot-race`), whose rewrite of `useComposerLinkPreviews.tsx` is the sole overlapping file. The transient-retry work stays in #5502, which touches no composer file and remains based on main. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

Fix video comment effect wrapping (#5748)
## What changed - render video-review timecode chips inside the first Markdown paragraph so comment text wraps naturally around them - reuse the canonical video-review chip treatment across the timeline, Inbox previews, and Inbox detail - preserve video-review context in Inbox so timestamp chips remain interactive ## Why Video comments now support Markdown-like effects, but non-player surfaces rendered the timestamp beside a separate text layout. That kept the chip and comment from sharing the same inline flow and made Inbox behavior inconsistent with the player. ## Validation - `pnpm --dir desktop check` - 100 focused Markdown, timecode, video-review, and Inbox unit tests - `pnpm --dir desktop build:e2e` - focused `video-attachment.spec.ts` Playwright scenario - pre-push desktop typecheck and 4,761-test desktop suite - native Builderlab staging with the configured profile Focused timeline and Inbox snapshots will be attached in a PR comment. --------- Signed-off-by: kenny lopez <klopez4212@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Fast Fizz <2df81cb51f05a9d5387ef24d7b9ecb8fcdfcd1c70ffabc67061c9596e1b5b1c4@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Fast Fizz <2df81cb51f05a9d5387ef24d7b9ecb8fcdfcd1c70ffabc67061c9596e1b5b1c4@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop): one relative date ladder across chat and the Inbox (#3769)
Slice 6 of #2216. Independent of #3642 — cut from `main`, no shared files in conflict. ## Why Five surfaces formatted the same thing five ways, and none of them matched the writing standard's Today / Yesterday / weekday / date progression. | Surface | Before | |---|---| | Chat day divider | `Monday, March 31st` — ordinal suffix, which the standard says to avoid | | Inbox section header | `Yesterday`, but never `Today`; always printed the year | | Inbox list row | A third implementation | | Inbox thread pane header | `Jul 8, 2026, 2:34 PM` — always absolute, always with the year, never relative at any distance | | Channel message header | `9:05 AM` — a bare clock, so a message from last week has nothing to anchor it once its day divider scrolls away | There were three separate date implementations doing this, which is the symptom worth naming: **two different jobs were being solved ad hoc at each call site.** A header that labels a *group* of items needs a different label than an individual item's own timestamp. ## What `shared/lib/datetime.ts` owns both ladders: ``` formatDayGroupLabel formatItemTimestamp (day divider, section header) (list row, message header) Today → Today withTime:false withTime:true Yesterday → Yesterday 2:34 PM 2:34 PM 2–6 days → Monday Yesterday Yesterday at 2:34 PM this year → June 20 Monday Monday at 2:34 PM older → June 20, 2025 Jun 20 Jun 20 at 2:34 PM Jun 20, 2025 Jun 20, 2025 at 2:34 PM ``` ## Two deliberate deviations from the standard Both are documented at the definition, not just here. **The oldest band keeps the day.** The standard collapses anything over ten months to month-and-year (`Aug 2022`). A group label has to *identify* its day — collapsing would give every day in a month the same divider, so scrolling old history would show a run of identical headers with no way to tell one day from the next. Only the year is conditional. There's a test asserting three consecutive 2022 dates produce three distinct labels. **Roomy surfaces keep the time of day at every band.** `Yesterday at 9:05 AM`, not `Yesterday`. This is a chat and collaboration workspace rather than a transactional product — where you read conversation, the time is content, not chrome. Narrow list rows still drop it (`withTime: false`) and rely on the existing hover tooltip, which stays the absolute value. `withTime` is a surface decision, not a preference. Today needs no date word in either mode: a bare clock already reads as today, and "Today at 2:34 PM" is longer without saying more. ## Derived rather than captured `MessageTimestamp` now takes only `createdAt` and derives both of its labels, instead of receiving a pre-formatted `time` string. A relative label captured when the message list was formatted would be frozen at that wording; deriving it means each render recomputes. This does not make it live — `MessageRow` is memoized, so a row already on screen when the clock passes midnight keeps saying "Today" until something re-renders it. The day divider above it has always had the same property, and both correct themselves on the next message, scroll, or navigation. Called out in the component doc so the next person doesn't read "derived" as "reactive". The memo comparator moved from `message.time` to `message.createdAt`. Behavior-identical — `time` was a pure function of `createdAt` — but it now names the prop the row actually reads. The 36px continuation hover gutter stays clock-only. A relative label doesn't fit in `w-9`. ## Middot between metadata segments `managed by you 9:53 AM` ran two unrelated facts together as if they were one phrase. Now `managed by you · 9:53 AM`. - `aria-hidden` — punctuation for the eye only. The header already reads as separate nodes to a screen reader, and `MessageAgentOwner` supplies its own "Agent managed by" label. - Grouped with the segment it precedes, so it can't wrap to the start of a line on its own — as loose siblings in a `flex-wrap` row, an orphaned divider is exactly what happens. - No margin; spacing comes from the container gap. - **No separator after the author name.** "Alice 9:53 AM" already reads as a name followed by a time. Dividers go between metadata segments only. Middot is already the app's separator for this — `MessageThreadSummaryRow`, the mention list, project rows, 46 files in total. Applied to the channel message header, channel system rows, and the Inbox thread pane. Left-side Inbox activity rows deliberately unchanged. ## Verified Screenshots taken through `just desktop-screenshot`: - `#agents` — `nadia 🤖 managed by you · 10:20 AM`, and the `Today` divider with clock-only rows - Inbox thread pane — `alice 🤖 owner unavailable · 12:00 PM` **Gap worth naming:** every mock channel message is same-day, so the past-day labels (`Yesterday at 9:05 AM`, `Jun 20 at 2:34 PM`) are covered by unit tests rather than by a rendered screenshot. Happy to add a spec that seeds an older `created_at` if a reviewer wants to see them. ## Validation - `pnpm check`, `pnpm typecheck` — clean - Unit: **3800/3800**, including 17 new tests in `shared/lib/datetime.test.mjs` and 4 in `messageTimestampContract.test.mjs` The datetime tests pin the things that are easy to regress: Today/Yesterday as *calendar* boundaries rather than 24-hour windows (a message 15 hours old across midnight is "Yesterday"; one 22 hours old on the same day is "Today"), the weekday band bounded at both ends so a future timestamp from clock skew never gets labelled with a past weekday, no ordinals across all the tricky days (1/2/3/11/12/13/21/22/23/31), the year omitted within the current year, and compact labels staying ≤12 chars for a narrow row. - Smoke E2E: **783 passed, 2 failed, 1 skipped** Both failures are pre-existing and unrelated, confirmed by re-running each against a clean tree: 1. `video-attachment.spec.ts:223` — fails deterministically on clean `main` 2. `community-rail.spec.ts:797` (keyboard drag-and-drop reorder) — flaky on clean `main`: 2/5 failures there vs 3/5 with this branch, i.e. noise ## Mobile Mobile had the same divergence, so it moves with desktop rather than drifting until the next pass. `mobile/lib/features/channels/date_formatters.dart`: | Before | After | |---|---| | `formatDayHeading` → Today / Yesterday / `Tuesday, March 31, 2026` | Today / Yesterday / `Tuesday` / `March 31` / `March 31, 2025` | | `formatThreadSummaryLastReplyTime` → `on May 19th` | `on May 19` | Same two departures from the standard as desktop, documented at the definition and cross-referenced to `datetime.ts` so the next person editing one finds the other. Day comparison also moved to a rounded start-of-day difference, so a DST transition counts as one calendar day rather than zero — Dart's `Duration.inDays` truncates. **Message timestamps stay clock-only on mobile.** Desktop message headers now read `Yesterday at 9:05 AM`; mobile keeps `9:05 AM` at every band. That's the compact side of the same surface split the desktop change makes — a mobile timestamp sits inside a chat bubble on a narrow screen with the day divider a short scroll away, where a date word costs width it doesn't earn. Recorded as a decision at `formatMessageTime` so it doesn't read as an oversight. Mobile needs no middot work: message headers have no "managed by" segment, and the mention suggestion list already uses `\u00b7`. Validation: `dart format` clean, `flutter analyze` no issues, `flutter test` **911 passed, 1 skipped** — 8 new day-heading tests covering the weekday band, the year boundary, ordinals across 1/2/3/11/12/13/21/22/23/31, distinct labels for consecutive days in the oldest band, and calendar-day rather than 24-hour bands. ## Out of scope - **Search results.** `SearchResultItem.tsx` and `TopbarSearch.tsx` hand-roll a `5m ago` elapsed format. That's a third *kind* of label — elapsed rather than relative-calendar — and deciding whether search should switch is a separate call. - **`formatThreadSummaryLastReplyTime`** keeps its own "3 hours ago" elapsed scale on both platforms; only its old-reply fallback lost the ordinal (`on May 19th` → `on May 19`). - **Mobile search.** `relativeTime` returns `7/31/2026` past a week, matching the desktop search format that's also out of scope above. Both should change together or not at all. --------- Signed-off-by: Clay Delk <clay.delk@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(desktop): share one timer across same-interval useNow consumers (#5861)
## Summary Every `useNow(1000)` consumer owned its own `setInterval`. With dozens of "agent working" surfaces mounted (sidebar channel badges, tray menu, agent session panels, managed-agent rows), each ticked on its own unaligned 1 s timer — a render/composite pass per consumer per second. On a machine running ~23 agent sessions this pinned a sustained **~25% of a core** in `com.apple.WebKit.WebContent` while the app sat idle. This PR makes same-interval `useNow` consumers share one timer: all of them tick in a single `setInterval` callback, so React batches the state updates into one render pass. The last unsubscriber tears the timer down; the visibility gate (pause while hidden, snap fresh on return) is unchanged. Attribution receipts (live dev build, 23 acp sessions): the shimmer was the original suspect from `sample` stacks, but probing `animation: none` left CPU flat (~25%), while clamping `useNow` intervals dropped it immediately. Repeated A/B with this exact change: **~25% → ~3–9%** webview CPU under the same agent load (ambient variance from live agent activity; the delta reproduced across three alternations). ### Related issue None found — follow-up to the presence-firehose investigation (#5830 fixed the subscription side; this is the remaining local render cost). ### Testing - `pnpm test` — 4792/4792 pass, including a new test asserting N same-interval consumers create exactly one timer and the last unmount releases it - `pnpm typecheck`, `biome check` — clean - Live-local per TESTING.md: hot-patched into a running dev desktop with 23 active acp sessions; webview CPU dropped from ~25% sustained to ~3–9% (A/B/A alternation, `ps` sampling over 30 s windows) Signed-off-by: Eva <011987e296fd5006292d2f930b574be47c7801048d1983c46c425d3c95f0cffd@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Eva <011987e296fd5006292d2f930b574be47c7801048d1983c46c425d3c95f0cffd@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(huddle): cut voice-turn time-to-first-audio from ~1.0 s to ~0.35 s (env-gated latency levers) (#5671)
## Overview
**Category:** feat (env-gated experiment + one exact always-on
optimization)
**Problem:** Speech-end -> first TTS audio through the desktop huddle
pipeline measures **924–1087 ms** on an M4 Max with a 0 ms LLM leg.
Voice turns feel sluggish no matter how fast the agent replies. Baseline
breakdown: ~300 ms hardcoded VAD silence flush + ~150–250 ms Parakeet
decode + ~380–550 ms TTS synthesis before the first player append.
**Outcome:** With all levers enabled, e2e time-to-first-audio measures
**347–384 ms** (307–357 ms on a longer utterance) on the same hardware,
harness, and production pipelines. Defaults preserve production behavior
everywhere except one deterministic, bit-exact cache win.
## What's in here
### Levers (all default-off, env-gated)
| Lever | Env | Effect (measured medians, short utterance) |
|---|---|---|
| Speculative Parakeet decode | `BUZZ_STT_SPECULATIVE=1` | STT leg ->
~max(flush, decode) |
| Streaming TTS synthesis | `BUZZ_TTS_STREAMING=1`,
`BUZZ_TTS_EMIT_FRAMES` | first audio 380–550 -> 211–320 ms (emit=12,
bit-exact) |
| ONNX intra-op threads | `BUZZ_STT_THREADS`, `BUZZ_TTS_THREADS` | TTS
first audio 211–320 -> 129–180 ms (4 threads) |
- **Speculative decode** starts the Parakeet decode at the *first*
silent VAD frame, overlapping it with the flush window. Resumed speech
invalidates the result (voiced-frame-count check); held silence emits it
instantly at the flush boundary.
- **Streaming TTS**: new `synth_chunk_streaming` (buzz-voice)
interleaves the Flow LM frame loop with incremental *stateful* Mimi
decoding, emitting PCM deltas to the player via the existing
`PlaybackChunkAudio` decoration. At `emit_frames=12` (the decoder's
native chunk) streamed audio is **bit-identical** to the batch path —
verified by the ignored test
`incremental_stateful_decode_matches_batch_decode` (max|diff|=0).
Smaller deltas are faster but diverge (~23 dB SNR; decoder intra-chunk
lookahead), hence the default of 12.
> **Removed after live testing:** the `BUZZ_STT_FLUSH_MS` flush-window
override. Lowering the silence window below natural mid-sentence pauses
(the fast-path recipe said 150 ms) split single spoken sentences into
multiple messages and confused the listening agents. The window is a
turn-taking quality knob, not a latency lever — it is now fixed at the
production 300 ms value.
### Push-to-talk grouping fix (always-on)
A held push-to-talk shortcut is an explicit "I am not done talking"
signal, so silence never ends the utterance while it is held — even when
the microphone is also manually open. The utterance flushes on shortcut
release (existing transmit-edge flush); a manually open mic with the
shortcut up keeps normal VAD pause flushing. Gate is the pure
`vad_flush_allowed` function with a unit-test truth table.
### Always-on (exact): voice-conditioning cache
Phase profiling (`BUZZ_TTS_PHASE_LOG=1`) showed a fixed ~160 ms
`condition_voice` Flow-LM pass on *every* chunk, re-deriving the same
post-conditioning state for the same reference voice. The state is now
snapshotted after first computation and restored per chunk (dtype-tagged
tensor copies, keyed identically to the existing `cached_voice`).
Deterministic — same tensors in, same tensors out. The default path's
TTS leg drops from 380–550 ms to 225–355 ms with no configuration.
### Bench harness
`huddle::latency_bench` (`#[cfg(test)]` + `#[ignore]`) drives the real
`SttPipeline` and `TtsPipeline`, feeding a 48 kHz WAV in real-time 100
ms batches (AudioWorklet cadence) with a configurable fake LLM in place
of the relay leg, timing speech-end -> transcript -> speak() -> first

## Tradeoffs to weigh before promoting any lever to a default
- **Speculative decode**: the speculative buffer has ~1 silent tail
frame vs ~19; observed one CTC wobble ("fail" vs "failed") in 24 turns.
Mitigation if productionized: zero-pad the speculative buffer to match
the flush-path shape.
- **Threads**: defaults stay 1 pending the min-spec (4-core Intel) A/B
flagged in the existing `STT_NUM_THREADS` comment.
- **Streaming at emit<12** is NOT the same waveform — don't ship below
12 without an ear pass.
## Validation
- Full desktop lib suite: **2408 passed / 0 failed** at this head
(`18fab2e1c`).
- buzz-voice suite green; bit-exactness test passes against the
production batch decode.
- Defaults-only bench rerun stays in the baseline family everywhere
except the exact conditioning-cache win (stt 525–532, tts 225–355).
- `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings` + fmt clean
(pre-push hook battery green).
Measurement notes with per-lever logs: Eva's workspace,

## Suggested promotion order
1. Conditioning cache (in this PR, always-on, exact).
2. Streaming TTS at emit=12: bit-exact audio, biggest UX win — needs the
env-gate removed + barge-in soak + an ear pass on a real huddle.
3. Speculative decode with silence padding: near-free ~100–150 ms.
4. Threads: after min-spec A/B.

fix(desktop): defer foreground resume work (#5696)
## Summary - defer foreground resume work until the activation task has returned, a frame has painted, and a trailing task gets a turn - centralize app-focus subscribers and remove the broad TanStack `refetchOnWindowFocus` fan-out - coalesce relay recovery and preserve an explicit deferred refresh only for workflow data without a polling/push freshness path - defer the notification permission native check while keeping blur and cheap correctness signals immediate ## Why Buzz Desktop 0.5.10 can spend roughly 1.5 seconds in the WebKit window-focus listener/microtask checkpoint before returning to the run loop. Focus currently fans out into query refetches, React polling updates, relay reconnect/replay, and native work in one activation turn. This patch establishes an interaction-first foreground boundary rather than letting those consumers compete with the activating input and first paint. ## Validation - focused foreground/workflow/relay tests: 18/18 passed before commit - `pnpm --dir desktop typecheck`: passed before commit - pre-commit desktop check and file-size gate: passed - pre-push desktop check, typecheck, and full desktop unit suite: 4,743/4,743 passed at `704e7b4b6618fafce655bb2b07c7a9fe0fc8c643` - Princess Donut independent adversarial review: PASS after two lifecycle/freshness blockers were resolved ## Manual test 1. Install the PR build and use Buzz long enough to populate channels, home, workflows, agents, and other polling surfaces. 2. Switch to another app for 30-60 seconds. 3. Return by clicking Buzz and immediately click a channel or scroll. 4. Confirm the first interaction and paint are prompt, then confirm channels/home/workflows refresh and a degraded relay reconnects after the activation boundary. 5. Repeat while rapidly switching away again to verify no resume work starts after focus has been lost. --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): remove 0.5.9+ perf regressions, speed up get_channels (#5599)
Desktop input latency regressed sharply for users on v0.5.9 and worsened on latest main: multi-second stalls when clicking back into the app, slow fresh boots, intermittent lockups, and scroll/mouse degradation. Reverting to `119a84897` (pre-0.5.9) was confirmed to resolve it, isolating the regression to that range. Profiling a live production renderer plus a commit-level audit of the range found three independent, additive causes — fixed here — plus a long-standing `get_channels` cost that made every remaining refetch expensive, also addressed here. ## 1. Focus-return refetch storm (`refetchOnWindowFocus`) #5490 wired TanStack's `focusManager` to app focus and flipped ~20 query sites to `refetchOnWindowFocus: true`. A focus return after >60s away fires them all within milliseconds — and a click into an unfocused window *is* a focus return, so the burst runs before the click is processed. That is the "click into the composer, wait 5 seconds" symptom, and it also explains why mouse input feels worse than keyboard (clicks arrive with focus transitions; typing happens while already focused). A 5-second `sample` of a live production renderer caught a single window activity-state transition consuming ~1.25s of main-thread time, dominated by `JSON.parse` in the focus listener's microtask drain. #5535 already established the fix pattern but applied it to only two families (channels, home-feed). This PR extends the same 5-minute `staleTime` discipline to the remaining families: pulse (×5), workflows (×4), agents (×4), forum (×2), presence, user-status, custom-emoji, channel-templates, and the persona catalog. Polling cadences and push-invalidation paths are untouched — interval refetches and `invalidateQueries` both bypass `staleTime`, so live-update behavior is unchanged. Each gated family exports its focus-refetch policy as an options object that the production hook spreads into `useQuery`, and a `focusRefetchPolicy.test.mjs` drives a `QueryObserver` with that same production object — locking the policy behaviorally (fresh focus return → 0 fetches; stale → refetch) and failing if a hook's `staleTime`/`refetchOnWindowFocus` wiring drifts. Four families deliberately keep tighter freshness, all surfaces where the 5-minute gate would suppress the only refresh path and none of which feed the app-wide storm: `repo-sync-status` keeps its fresh focus refetch (its inline comment documents the "committed in a terminal, switched back to the app" flow as intended); the workflow-runs list stale-gates at 10s because a remotely-started run has no push invalidation and its conditional 1s poll is off while the cache shows no active runs; the workflow list queries (`useChannelWorkflowsQuery` and the all-channels aggregate) stale-gate at 10s because they have no poll and no relay subscription, and mutation-driven invalidation only covers this renderer — remote workflow creates/edits/deletes surface only via focus refetch; and the managed-agent log stale-gates at one poll tick (30s) so returning to a live agent log refreshes immediately. Run approvals keep the 5-minute gate under `RUN_APPROVALS_FOCUS_STALE_TIME_MS` — their focused 10s poll already covers freshness. ## 2. Synchronous localStorage sweep on the boot/focus path #5453's stale-cache sweep synchronously `getItem` + `JSON.parse`s every whitelisted localStorage entry on the main thread (multi-MB on seasoned profiles), scheduled with a `requestIdleCallback` timeout of 1.5s that guaranteed it landed mid-boot, and re-armed on every hidden→visible transition — stacking it onto the exact moment the focus storm fires. #5454's `trimSelfProfileCaches()` additionally scanned every localStorage key on every `writeSelfProfileCache()` call (which fires per relay self-profile delivery at boot). Now: the first sweep waits `BOOT_SWEEP_FLOOR_MS` (30s) after startup, the scan is time-sliced across idle callbacks, and the visibility trigger is removed — boot-delayed plus hourly still covers the 14-day TTL contract. The sliced sweep re-checks staleness immediately before each removal (a key rewritten fresh mid-sweep survives), isolates per-key storage errors so one bad entry can't strand the rest of the snapshot, defers oversized values once rather than parsing them on a zero-budget slice, guarantees forward progress on timeout-fired callbacks, and cancels its scheduled slice when stopped. The profile trim keeps a lazily-initialized memoized key count so the common under-cap write is O(1); the full parse scan runs only when the count exceeds a cap, resyncs if external deletions made it stale, and a failed scan skips the trim instead of aborting the write. Sweep semantics (rules, TTLs, eviction) are unchanged, and tests cover the scheduling, slice-progress, error-isolation, defer-once, and trim short-circuit behaviors. ## 3. The macOS window was never opaque #5478's glass appearance is correctly opt-in at the CSS layer, but the compositor cost was baked in deeper than its native `on_webview_ready` transparency call: the main window is declared `"transparent": true` in `tauri.conf.json` (added for the original glass work in #1671), which makes tao call `NSWindow.setOpaque(false)` at creation and resolve every later `set_background_color(None)` to `clearColor` — and no runtime `setOpaque(true)` path exists through tauri, while wry's runtime background setter can only force the WKWebView's `drawsBackground` off, never back on. So "restore the platform default" was unreachable: every launch, glass or not, ran with a non-opaque NSWindow, defeating WindowServer's opaque-window compositing fast path and forcing full window compositing every frame — compounded by the existing `backdrop-blur` chrome overlapping the scrolling timeline. This matches the compositor-shaped symptoms (scroll and pointer input degrading first). The window is now created opaque (`"transparent": false`) and the NSWindow layer is never made transparent at runtime. Glass never needed a transparent window: behind-window `NSVisualEffectView` vibrancy renders inside opaque windows (this is how Finder and Notes draw vibrant sidebars); it only requires a transparent WKWebView canvas, which the `set_window_vibrancy` enable path already establishes at runtime (`macos-private-api` compiles that in independent of the window flag). Enabling glass installs the vibrancy layer and then makes only the webview canvas see-through; disabling clears the vibrancy layer — the canvas may stay non-drawing afterwards (wry's flag is one-way at runtime), which is harmless because glass-off CSS paints fully opaque above an always-opaque NSWindow. The boot-path first-frame backing writes touch only the NSWindow backing color and are therefore inert to glass state regardless of how they order against the `ThemeProvider`'s vibrancy call on a persisted-glass-on cold boot. Glass-off users (the default) get an end-to-end opaque window from boot for the first time. ## 4. `get_channels`: serial round-trips and a multi-MB payload on every refetch The stale gates in (1) cut refetch frequency; this cuts the cost of the refetches that legitimately remain (boot, and focus returns after more than 5 minutes away — previously still a multi-second stall). `get_channels` made ~8 fully serial relay round-trips (~3.2–3.6s at 1,100+ channels), then shipped the full `ChannelInfo` list — including every channel's member pubkeys — across IPC, where the renderer's `JSON.parse` of the multi-MB payload froze the main thread (the ~1.25s stall captured in the live sample). - **Concurrent stages**: the membership chain, the open-channel directory scan, and the hidden-DM snapshot run concurrently, as do the member-count and last-message queries that follow. The critical path drops from ~8 sequential round-trips to 2 phases. Filters, limits, pagination, and merge semantics are unchanged. - **Not-modified short-circuit**: the command now takes a client-supplied content hash (FNV-1a 64 over the channel list, canonicalized by id and excluding `last_message_at`) and omits the channel list from the response when nothing else changed. Last-message timestamps — which change on nearly every message anywhere — ship as a small separate map that the client overlays onto its cached list with reference preservation, so React Query's structural sharing also skips downstream re-renders. On a typical refocus the renderer parses kilobytes instead of megabytes. The hash is stored in the query cache itself, tying its lifecycle to the data it describes so a community switch can never leak a stale hash. The E2E mock bridge speaks the new payload shape — including the complete `last_messages` map the client treats as authoritative — and hash canonicalization plus overlay reference-preservation are unit-tested on both sides. --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> |

fix(link-preview): reliably render previews sent right after they resolve (#5245)
## Overview **Category:** fix **User impact:** Link previews no longer disappear when a message is sent while preview metadata or media is still settling. Fast Enter, rapid Enter, and confirmed-draft auto-send now preserve the preview without duplicate sends or stale tags. **Problem:** The composer could look ready before its sender-authored snapshot tag existed. Send paths could then race preview resolution/upload, while debounced preview state could attach a tag for a URL that had already been removed. The same timing also caused confirmed-draft auto-send to be consumed without sending. **Solution:** - Debounce preview resolution to avoid card flicker while typing, then disable every submit path while a supported external preview settles. A 2-second escape cap still permits a bare-link send if resolution stalls. - Keep submit synchronous: acquire a composer-local lock before asynchronous send work, read ready tags from the live URL set, and reject Enter/form submits while a snapshot is pending. - Retry confirmed-draft auto-submit until preview settling clears, then submit exactly once. - Upload thumbnail and favicon independently. A failed upload shows a toast and degrades to the surviving media (or text-only) rather than leaving the card spinning. - Exclude message-edit mode from preview resolution, upload, and Save gating. Edit-time preview snapshots remain follow-up #5273. - Canonicalize fragment-bearing URLs for preview lookup/snapshot identity while preserving the original fragment links in message text. ## Link preview state walkthrough Captured using PR #5245's actual public Open Graph metadata and artwork. The deterministic E2E bridge controls only upload timing so the transient disabled state can be captured reliably. | State | Expected behavior | Screenshot | | --- | --- | --- | | **1. Snapshot upload pending** | The real PR preview is visible, but Submit remains disabled until its sendable snapshot tag is ready. Click and Enter cannot send a bare link during the settling window. | | | **2. Snapshot ready** | Once snapshot upload settles and the tag is ready, the same preview remains and Submit becomes active. | | | **3. Message sent** | The sent event carries the snapshot tag and renders the PR title, description, and artwork inline instead of degrading to a bare URL. | | ## Regression coverage - Enter during metadata resolution or snapshot upload cannot send early. - Paste-and-immediate-Enter sends after settling; rapid Enter submits exactly once. - Confirmed-draft auto-send waits for settling and fires exactly once. - Removed/replaced URLs cannot leak stale snapshot tags or media refs. - Thumbnail upload failure toasts and sends with the surviving favicon. - Edit mode does not resolve/upload previews or gate Save. - Fragment variants share a canonical preview while original fragment links remain clickable. - Existing ready-preview, suppression, bare-link fallback, and multi-preview behavior remains covered. ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel and paste a supported external URL into the composer. 2. Press Enter immediately, before preview metadata/media finishes settling. 3. Before this fix, the event could be sent without its preview snapshot (or confirmed-draft auto-send could be lost). With this fix, submit waits behind the disabled state and fires once with the matching snapshot tag. 4. Remove or replace the URL and press Enter inside the debounce window. The sent event contains tags only for URLs still present in the submitted content. ## Validation All required PR checks are green, including Desktop Core, Desktop Smoke E2E shards, Desktop E2E Integration shards, macOS build, security checks, and DCO. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(link-preview): restore Buzz entity link cards (#5494)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Buzz pull request, issue, and repository links now show compact, useful metadata cards in received messages, including messages sent by agents and the CLI. **Problem:** Sender-authored snapshots protect recipients from external preview fetches, but that change also removed recipient-side cards for trusted Buzz entity links when the sender did not attach snapshots. **Solution:** Resolve recognized Buzz entities only against the active relay and show signed repository identity, title, and compact builder context with the current inline Buzz mark in the favicon slot, but without avatars, thumbnails, or external image fetches. Entity metadata wins over conflicting sender snapshots, while unsupported or unavailable metadata retains a safe text fallback. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/playwright.config.ts** Adds the entity-link regression spec to the smoke test project. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useComposerLinkPreviews.tsx** Treats recognized Buzz entity cards as complete without generating snapshot tags and retains fallback cards when relay metadata is absent. **desktop/src/shared/lib/useResolvedLinkPreviews.test.mjs** Covers kind-scoped entity detection, trusted relay metadata, root-scoped lifecycle queries, exact single-repository root binding, image-less pending state, and fallback behavior. **desktop/src/shared/lib/useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts** Resolves signed repository, pull request, and issue metadata from the active relay. Entity roots fail closed unless they carry exactly one matching repository tag; lifecycle queries are root-scoped before limits; successful metadata remains stable until relay/community reset, and PR commit context uses the immutable root event rather than an unindexed update query. **desktop/src/shared/ui/compact-link-preview-attachment.tsx** Uses Buzz repository identity as the compact card provider and avoids reserving thumbnail space for image-less entity cards. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown.tsx** Routes message cards through the combined entity/snapshot preview hook. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/useMessageLinkPreviews.test.mjs** Proves relay-authenticated entity metadata beats a forged sender snapshot while preserving mixed-link content order. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/useMessageLinkPreviews.ts** Combines recipient-resolved Buzz entities with sender-authored external snapshots using explicit trust precedence and first-seen ordering. **desktop/tests/e2e/entity-link-recipient-cards.spec.ts** Exercises repository identity, PR workflow context, repository metadata, image-less rendering, and composer send behavior for agent/CLI-style entity links. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a channel containing a message sent without `link-preview` tags whose content includes valid `buzz://pr`, `buzz://issue`, or `buzz://repo` links. 2. Confirm each card shows its repository identity and signed title; PRs/issues also show compact lifecycle context, and repositories show description/status/default branch. 3. Confirm the cards use the Buzz mark in the favicon slot with no avatar, thumbnail, or reserved image area. 4. Compose and send a message containing a Buzz entity link; confirm sending is not blocked waiting for a snapshot. 5. Send a message containing both a Buzz entity link and a snapshot-backed HTTPS link; confirm cards follow content order and the HTTPS link remains sender-snapshot-only. ## Screenshots ### Recipient view — Buzz-branded metadata cards Repository identity, title, and compact builder context render with the current inline Buzz mark in the favicon slot and no avatar, thumbnail, or reserved image space. ## Validation At commit `7bc70b0a9f70392bd062ed25b1d2362cc4021a40` with a clean working tree: - Pre-push hooks passed: branch skew, desktop check, desktop typecheck, and full desktop unit suite - Full desktop unit suite: 4,560 passed - Purpose-built Playwright regression after a fresh E2E build: 2 passed - Screenshot regenerated from the same commit and visually inspected Originating conversation: Buzz channel `c2859932-b679-4091-9c7e-f5a65deddd64`, thread `93c3e7be59a8d1ec10b4992efd783a2a79f253a10f10d39746c6ad41b0d5bb42`. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> |

fix(desktop): quiesce renderer polling while hidden (#3677) (#5490)
Fixes #3677. ## Problem The renderer never quiesces: recurring timers, query polling, and re-render tickers run at full rate whether the window is visible, hidden, or minimized. Measured on a live installed app: **27.5% mean renderer CPU visible vs 28.7% hidden** (60×1s `ps` samples of the WebContent process; `sample(1)` dominated by `WebCore::timerFired`/ThreadTimers, microtask checkpoints, JSON parsing, style matching). Matches all three reproductions in #3677 (macOS prerelease, Linux/WebKitGTK A/B/A minimize test, stable macOS). Per-timer instrumentation (dev build, wrapped `setInterval`/`setTimeout`/rAF) attributed the recurring work: `useNow` 60 fires/min, 40 active TanStack refetch intervals, agent-turn pruning 12/min, auto-restart ticks, huddle/reminder polls — none visibility-gated. ## Fix (two-tier gating, standard mechanisms only) Two separate signals in `desktop/src/shared/lib/useDocumentVisible.ts`, because they mean different things and (see residuals) are delivered differently on macOS: - **`useDocumentVisible`** — true Page Visibility only (`document.visibilityState`). Gates local UI work that must keep running on a visible-but-unfocused window: `useNow` relative clocks, agent-turn pruning, huddle bar state/model-status polling, auto-restart tick. Hidden ⇒ paused; `useNow` snaps to fresh `Date.now()` on return. - **`useAppFocused`** — visible AND `document.hasFocus()`. Gates network refetch polling only (`useFocusedRefetchInterval`, ~15 query families: forum/home/agents/channels/templates/emoji/user-status/projects/workflows/persona-catalog/pulse/presence-list). TanStack's `focusManager` is wired to this signal (idempotent, single install) with `refetchOnWindowFocus: true`, so stale queries refresh promptly on return. Deliberate side effect, documented in code: query retries pause on blur; mutations and the presence heartbeat (`retry: 0`) are unaffected. - **Never gated:** reminder due-notification poll (fires while hidden/unfocused — extracted to `reminderNotificationPoll.ts` with regression test), huddle pipeline hot-start (`check_pipeline_hotstart` survives backgrounding for the duration of a huddle), relay stall watchdog, presence heartbeat. Live WebSocket delivery untouched throughout. - Huddle model-status indicator now clears only on huddle phase end, not on visibility/focus changes. ## Validation - Instrumented dev build, populated channel, fires/min: **visible+focused** unchanged (`useNow 60 / prune 12 / watchdog 6 / query 4 / auto-restart 4 / low-rate huddle/reminder/presence`); **visible+blurred**: query polls 0, UI clocks continue (`useNow 60 / prune 12`), reminders 2, presence live; **truly hidden**: only watchdog 6, reminders 2, presence ~2 — everything else 0. Return restored visible+focused, selection preserved, queries refreshed. - Hide-vs-blur decomposition (instrumented probe instance, AppleScript-driven): on macOS WKWebView, Cmd-H / minimize / full occlusion did **not** reliably produce `visibilityState === "hidden"` — they reliably produced focus loss. The CPU-dominant quiescence path on macOS is therefore the focus gate; the visibility gate is exercised fully on platforms that report hidden (e.g. WebKitGTK minimize per the Linux repro). - Gate-regression tests: signal separation, `useNow` hidden-pause + fresh-snap on return, focus-gated interval pause/resume-with-refresh, reminder delivery while hidden+unfocused (5 new, plus primitive wiring tests). - Push gate: desktop check, typecheck, full desktop suite **4549/4549** at `1237548d1`. ## Known residuals - **macOS hidden-signal limitation:** because WKWebView rarely reports `hidden` on app-hide/minimize, hidden-only consumers (`useNow`, prune, huddle UI polls) may keep ticking on macOS when the app is hidden. These are cheap local timers; the expensive network polling still quiesces via focus loss, which is what the measured 28% CPU was attributed to. If the residual local-timer cost proves measurable, the follow-up is bridging Tauri window hidden/minimized events into the visibility signal. - End-to-end CPU confirmation on a packaged build is the post-merge follow-up (against the 28% idle baseline). - Visible-state costs (skeleton animation pileups on stuck loading views, per-poll JSON payload churn) are intentionally out of scope — separate follow-up issue. --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Meeseeks <2e96988f190ed1bd3c568760103aa4cadb2bc6195b832e252c984392c89039bd@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop): time-based sweep for stale localStorage caches (#5453)
Part of #5418 (Phase 1, lane B). ## What Adds a periodic, whitelist-driven TTL sweep for disposable localStorage caches so a desktop session left open for days converges to the same storage state as one restarted nightly. - New `desktop/src/shared/lib/localStorageSweep.ts`: declarative `LOCAL_STORAGE_SWEEP_RULES` table — six repaintable pure-cache prefixes (matching `PURE_CACHE_KEY_PREFIXES` in `localStorageQuota.ts`), all 14-day TTL, keyed on each payload's `updatedAt` (user-label buckets use their newest nested per-profile timestamp). - Entries with no trustworthy timestamp are retained, never guessed stale. `buzz-self-profile.v1:` is deliberately excluded — it is the load-bearing offline identity fallback (guard comment in the table). - Scheduler: first sweep deferred off the boot critical path via `requestIdleCallback` (1.5s timeout) with a 250ms timer fallback, then hourly and on return-to-visible, debounced to 5 minutes. Throw-safe throughout (failures `console.warn`, never crash — per `safeStorage.ts` conventions / #5078). - Wired in `desktop/src/main.tsx` beside `recoverLocalStorageQuotaOnStartup()`. ## Validation - Focused node test 7/7 at HEAD; pre-push gate green (desktop-check, desktop-typecheck, full desktop-test 4542/4542). - Manual Playwright (not covered by push hooks): `relay-connectivity.spec.ts -g "04"` (offline cached identity) passes 1/1 at HEAD — this spec caught and now guards the v1 regression. - Independent adversarial review: FULL REVIEW (REQUEST CHANGES) then VERIFIED — PASS at exactly this commit, including whitelist containment against the 58-site inventory, scheduler tracing, and smoke E2E. ## Overview **Category:** improvement **User impact:** Link previews appear in the composer and travel as privacy-safe sender-authored snapshots, so recipients never contact the linked site merely by opening a conversation. **Problem:** Cold-cache link paste could freeze the composer before the URL painted; recipient-side unfurling leaked visits; invalid or unresolved preview work could interfere with sending or leave dead cards behind. **Solution:** Paint pasted links before starting cold resolver work, resolve only in the sender's composer, attach only complete validated snapshots at Send, and render authored snapshots without recipient fallback fetching. ## Behavior - **Cold paste stays responsive:** bare and angle-bracket URL paste paths commit the visible link before resolver work begins. - **Sender-only fetching:** metadata is resolved while composing; recipients render only the sender-authored snapshot. - **Send never waits:** pending, failed, invalid, and unsendable previews are omitted. They do not block or cancel the message. - **Terminal misses disappear:** failed, timed-out, or 404 resolver results remove the composer card while preserving visible link text. - **Display-text links work:** Markdown links such as `[review the pull request](…)` produce and send the same snapshots as bare URLs. - **Compact and Rich presentation:** Compact remains the default; Rich preserves source description line breaks and paragraphs. - **Immediate draft-wide dismissal:** clicking × immediately hides all previews for the draft, suppresses links pasted later, and emits only `["link-preview", "none"]`. No confirmation detour. Suppression resets after send or clearing the draft. - **Zero recipient fallback:** missing, stale, malformed, off-relay, unsupported, or suppressed snapshots remain ordinary visible links; recipients never regenerate them. ## Implementation - Resolve previews from deferred composer URL state so paste can paint first. - Upload finished preview media to the active community relay and snapshot only valid, sendable media references. - Atomically capture ready snapshots at submit time; never append a late preview after send. - Validate snapshot and suppression tags in desktop/native and relay ingestion, rejecting duplicate or mixed forms. - Render composer previews as stable 55px attachment cards at desktop and narrow widths. - Add deterministic E2E coverage for cold paste, ready/pending/failed/invalid previews, display-text links, multiline Rich descriptions, immediate dismissal, later-pasted links, and suppression reset. ## Validation Validated head: `9807ba8952f190e76153834abf8ab61dd40be5e2` - Push hooks passed: `check-push-org`, branch skew, desktop check, mobile tests, desktop tests, Rust tests, and desktop Tauri checks. - Focused screenshot E2E at the validated head: 5/5 passed across Compact/Rich composer and recipient states, 800px/420px geometry, display-text links, multiline descriptions, and immediate dismissal. - PR CI was triggered for this exact head and is currently running; completed checks are green at the time of this update. - Worktree is clean and both PR head and validated branch resolve to `9807ba895…`. ## Screenshots ### Compact composer | Loading | Ready | |---|---| | | | ### Rich composer | Loading | Ready | |---|---| | | | ### Responsive composer | 800px loading | 800px ready | |---|---| | | | | 420px loading | 420px ready | |---|---| | | | ### Recipient presentation | Compact | Rich | |---|---| | | | ### Display-text Markdown link | Composer | Recipient | |---|---| | | | ### Rich multiline description ### Immediate dismissal | Before × | Immediately after × | |---|---| | | | --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> |

fix(desktop): fence localStorage SecurityError from killing the React tree (#5142)
## Summary WebKit throws `SecurityError` from `localStorage.getItem` (not just `setItem`) when storage access is denied for the origin. With no `ErrorBoundary` in `desktop/src`, any such throw inside a provider render (`ThemeProvider`, `CommunitiesProvider`, `App` boot) propagated to the reconciler, unmounted the root, and left a blank window. Measured repro in #5078: a single throwing `getItem` on `buzz-communities` or `buzz-active-community-id` kills the container. Closes #5078. ## What changed **New helper — `desktop/src/shared/lib/safeStorage.ts`** - `getStorageItem(key, fallback?)` — wraps `window.localStorage.getItem`; on a thrown error (SecurityError under denied-storage origin) it warns once per key and returns the fallback. - `setStorageItem(key, value)` and `removeStorageItem(key)` — same fail-closed contract (return `false` on throw). - Unit tests in `safeStorage.test.mjs` cover the happy path and the `SecurityError` path. **Rewired the init-path readers that ran before any UI existed** - `desktop/src/features/communities/communityStorage.ts` — `migrateLegacyCommunityStorage`, `loadCommunities`, `loadActiveCommunityId`, `loadCommunityDiscoveryAfterLeave`, `initFirstCommunity` - `desktop/src/features/communities/legacyCommunityStorage.ts` — `migrateLegacyCommunityStorageBeforeRender` - `desktop/src/shared/theme/ThemeProvider.tsx` — `readStoredTheme`, `applyCachedVars`, the `useState` initialisers for `accentColor` and `followSystem`, and the accent re-read inside `applyTheme` **Root-level fence — `desktop/src/app/RootErrorBoundary.tsx`** - New top-level `ErrorBoundary` wrapping the whole provider tree in `main.tsx`. Any remaining uncaught render error (a future storage read that bypasses the helper, or any other render-time crash) renders a degraded splash with a Reload button instead of a blank window. ## Test plan - `desktop/src/shared/lib/safeStorage.test.mjs` — node `--test` runner, 11 assertions across healthy, absent, and SecurityError-throwing storage. - Full `just ci` runs on the blocker. - Existing `communityStorage.test.mjs` and `legacyCommunityStorage.test.mjs` continue to pass (they exercise the same functions via in-memory Storage doubles; the new code path in `migrateLegacyCommunityStorage` only adds a `try/catch` around the same body). ## Why not an ErrorBoundary-only fix A boundary alone can't help on a *clean* mount — the first throw already unmounted the whole subtree before any state or fallback data was loaded, so retrying would hit the same throw on the very next render. The storage accessor has to fail closed *and* the boundary has to exist for whatever bypasses it. Both are needed; neither is sufficient alone. --------- Signed-off-by: iroiro147 <sarthak.singh@mastersunion.org> Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): prevent sidebar prefs from reverting on stale-localStorage boot (#5086)
Fixes the bug where running a dev build with stale localStorage would
publish outdated channel sections, sort preferences, starred channels,
and muted channels to the relay, clobbering the DMG installation's live
state.
## Root cause
All four sidebar-preference sync managers (`channelSectionsSync`,
`channelSortSync`, `channelStarsSync`, `channelMutesSync`) collapsed
five distinct fetch outcomes — no event, timeout, error, auth-race empty
result, decrypt/parse failure — into a single `null`. Each hook's boot
effect treated `null` as "no remote exists" and seed-published whatever
was in localStorage, stamped at `max(now, lastRemoteCreatedAt+1)` with
`lastRemoteCreatedAt` reset to 0 on every boot. A dev build with stale
localStorage therefore re-signed old state as newer, and the DMG's live
subscription applied it.
## Two guards
**1. Tri-state fetch result** (`found | absent | failed`) — decrypt
failure on an existing event reports `failed` and records
`event.created_at`, so seed-publish is blocked even when the payload is
unreadable.
**2. Persisted head watermark** (`sidebarSyncWatermark.ts`) — keyed
`{blobType, pubkey, normalizedRelayUrl}`, written to localStorage on
every observed remote event (before decrypt on all paths: initial fetch,
live subscription, `fetchOwnBlobBeforePublish`), hydrated at
construction. Any session that has ever seen a remote blob skips
seed-publish on the next boot even when the fetch returns empty. Relay
URLs are normalised via `shared/lib/normalizeRelayUrl` (also used by
profile storage) so the same relay written two ways never produces two
keys.
**Bootstrap owns the seed.** Each manager exposes
`bootstrap(localStore)` that fetches, records the raw head, and
delegates the decision to the single `runBootstrap` policy: hold on
`failed` or `absent + prior watermark`, seed on genuine first-sync
(`absent + zero watermark + non-empty local`), `apply-remote` when a
blob was found. Hooks only act on `apply-remote`; they cannot publish
during bootstrap. First-time sync is unchanged: successful EOSE with no
event, zero watermark, and non-empty local state still seeds.
## LWW baseline preservation
`fetchOwnBlobBeforePublish` for sections/sort snapshots the watermark
before `recordRemoteHead` advances it, then compares the fetched event
against the snapshot — advancing first would make `remote.createdAt >
lastRemoteCreatedAt` always false and silently kill the whole-blob LWW
merge. Stars/mutes merge per-entry via `mergeStores`, so no snapshot is
needed there.
## Relay lifecycle
All four hooks require a defined `relayUrl` (plumbed from
`communitiesHook.activeCommunity?.relayUrl` in `AppShell.tsx`); while it
is undefined no manager is constructed and no boot/live/reconnect effect
binds. All effects depend on `[pubkey, relayUrl]`, so community switches
tear down and rebind. `destroy()` cancels pending publishes without
flushing — flushing would race community switching and could publish
relay A's state to relay B via the shared `relayClient` singleton.
Pending debounce-window edits are intentionally dropped: stars/mutes
entries survive via per-entry merge on the next publish; a dropped
sections/sort edit is lost because bootstrap whole-blob-replaces from
remote on return.
Known trade-off: a first boot with the relay unreachable holds (never
seeds) until the user's next explicit edit — preferred over risking a
stale seed-publish.
## Files
- `sidebarSyncWatermark.ts` — watermark persistence + `runBootstrap`
policy (tri-state `FetchResult`, `readWatermark`, `advanceWatermark`)
- `shared/lib/normalizeRelayUrl.ts` — relay-URL normalisation shared by
watermark keys and profile storage
- `channelSectionsSync.ts`, `channelSortSync.ts`, `channelStarsSync.ts`,
`channelMutesSync.ts` — tri-state fetch, pre-decrypt `recordRemoteHead`
on all paths, sections/sort watermark snapshot for LWW, `bootstrap()`,
cancel-without-flush `destroy()`
- `useChannelSections.ts`, `useChannelSortPreference.ts`,
`useChannelStars.ts`, `useChannelMutes.ts` — act on `bootstrap()`
results, gate on `relayUrl`, `[pubkey, relayUrl]` deps on all effects
- `AppShell.tsx` — passes `activeCommunity?.relayUrl` to
`useChannelMutes` and `useChannelStars`
- `sidebarSyncTestHelpers.mjs` — shared fake-window/localStorage/Tauri
mocks for the four manager suites
- Test suites — mutation-sensitive coverage: `failed→hold`,
`absent+watermark→hold`, first-sync seeds, undecryptable head recorded
on all paths, relay-A/B watermark isolation, watermark restart
round-trip, sections/sort LWW baseline

feat: Buzz entity links — rich preview cards + in-app navigation for repos, PRs, and issues (#4695)
## Summary
Gives Buzz-hosted git entities the same "GitHub-style" chat experience
GitHub links already get: rich preview cards, real titles, and
click-through — except clicks navigate **in-app** to the Projects view
instead of a browser.
- **Spec**: `docs/buzz-entity-links.md` — link scheme, slices, and
deferred work (`buzz://project`, OS deep links, web routes).
- **Canonical `buzz://` deep links**: new
`desktop/src/shared/lib/entityLink.ts` with builders + strict parser for
`buzz://pr?id=…&owner=…&d=…`, `buzz://issue?…`, and
`buzz://repo?owner=…&d=…`, mirrored by a Rust module
(`crates/buzz-cli/src/links.rs`) with a shared golden-format test so the
two implementations can't drift.
- **Preview cards**: `linkPreview.ts` recognizes `buzz://` entity links
*and* HTTPS relay clone URLs (`{origin}/git/<pubkey>/<repo>`, the shape
agents paste today). Both normalize onto the canonical `buzz://` href,
so the two spellings of a repo dedupe to one `Buzz`-provider card
(`BuzzMark` logo) rendered by `link-preview-attachment.tsx`.
- **Title enrichment**: PR/issue cards fetch the real subject from the
relay event (`subject` tag or first content line) via
`useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts`; the cache is community-scoped and reset in
`resetCommunityState()`.
- **In-app navigation**: clicking a card or inline anchor (including
HTTPS relay clone URLs whose origin matches the active relay) routes to
the canonical `30617:<owner>:<d>` coordinate via `goProject()`
(`markdown/entityLinks.tsx`). **Merge dependency: #4671 must merge
first** — route resolution for `30617:` coordinates is implemented on
that branch (`feat/multi-repository-projects`). Entity-link and
external-anchor logic were extracted out of `markdown.tsx` to stay under
the file-size ratchet.
- **Agent side**: `buzz pr open`, `buzz issues create`, and `buzz repos
create` now return a ready-made `link` field (omitted when the relay
returns `accepted: false`), and `base_prompt.md` instructs agents to
paste it verbatim when announcing work.
## Test plan
- [x] Desktop unit tests: pass, including new `entityLink.test.mjs` and
`linkPreview.test.mjs` coverage (golden formats, malformed-link
rejection, clone-URL/`buzz://` dedupe, origin-gated anchor behavior,
label-must-win invariant, cache epoch)
- [x] Rust: `cargo test -p buzz-cli` golden-format test +
accepted/rejected link guard assertions, clippy + fmt clean
- [x] Biome + `tsc --noEmit` clean; pre-push hooks
(desktop-tauri-checks, rust-tests, desktop-test) pass
- [ ] Manual: paste a relay clone URL and a `buzz://pr` link in a
channel — verify one card each, real PR title, and in-app navigation to
the Projects view

feat(desktop): persist sidebar observed-unread across webview reload (#3976)
## Problem `Command+R` (webview reload) wipes the two in-memory refs driving sidebar channel unread badges: `observedUnreadEventsByChannelRef` and `latestByChannelRef`. The boot catch-up REQ can only fetch events newer than each channel's NIP-RS frontier, so thread replies that arrived before the frontier was passively advanced (the common case) are never re-discovered. Inbox is unaffected because it rebuilds candidates from a relay feed query and checks fine-grained `thread:`/`msg:` markers. The sidebar badge path lacks an equivalent recovery mechanism. ## Solution Persist the sidebar's per-event candidate set to localStorage as a disposable, versioned projection cache (`buzz-observed-unread.v1:<relay>:<pubkey>`) and hydrate it on boot before the catch-up REQ runs. ### New files **`observedUnreadStorage.ts`** — storage module for the cache: - Keyed `buzz-observed-unread.v1:<normalizedRelayUrl>:<normalizedPubkey>` (relay-scoped to prevent cross-community leakage, matching `threadActivityStorage`) - Stores validated per-event `ObservedUnreadEvent` rows; `latestByChannel` is derived at hydration — no divergent dual aggregate - Age pruning (7d = `READ_STATE_HORIZON_SECONDS`), per-channel cap (1000), global cap (5000) across all channels in a scope bucket - Payload `updatedAt` for LRU ordering; registered in `PURE_CACHE_KEY_PREFIXES` for 2 MiB eviction budget - Field-level validation on decode; write failure is non-fatal (session-only degradation) - Snapshot-owning timers: `scheduleObservedUnreadWrite` deep-clones the events map at schedule time — a late A-scope timer can never read B's mutable refs or write under B's key **`useObservedUnreadPersistence.ts`** — hook that owns all persistence lifecycle: - Scope fence: `normalized pubkey + normalized relay` identity; `isScopeLoaded()` callback guards both projection (`rawUnread`) and every **observed-cache mutation** (`recordUnreadEvent`, `removeChannel`, `clearAll`) before touching refs or storage. Note: stale-scope calls to `markChannelRead`/`markAllChannelsRead` can still affect `forcedUnreadRef` and NIP-RS markers, which are pre-existing on `main` and deferred to the NIP-RS arc (see Deferred below). - Synchronous `pagehide` flush closes the Cmd+R timing gap (`useReloadShortcut.ts` reloads within 500ms of teardown, before the 1-second debounce fires) - Identity-reset effect: flushes old scope, resets refs, hydrates from storage, stamps loaded scope — all atomic; cleanup flushes on unmount - `clearAll` cancels the pending timer, resets both in-memory refs, and clears storage in a single transactional operation; `removeChannel` deletes the channel from both refs and replaces any pending snapshot with the current full map — never cancel-without-replacement, preserving sibling-channel events on reload - Marker-prune effect on `readStateVersion`: evaluates each retained event with `observedUnreadEventReadAt()` (the same evaluator used by the projection memo) and removes covered events, rederiving per-channel latest — never clears a whole channel for a single thread/msg marker - Returns a stable `useMemo`-wrapped API object keyed on actual deps so unrelated re-renders do not restart the catch-up REQ - `isScopeLoaded` is a `useCallback` (not a memoized boolean) — always reads the ref at call time, never stale ### Modified files **`useUnreadChannels.ts`** — hook integration: - Calls `useObservedUnreadPersistence` with all persistence wired through the returned API - `rawUnread`: `isScopeLoaded()` guard suppresses A-scope refs from projecting under B - `recordUnreadEvent`: `isScopeLoaded()` fence before touching refs; schedules a debounced write on each successful record - `markChannelRead` clearObserved path: calls `removeChannel` so the cleared state survives reload - `markAllChannelsRead`: delegates to the owner's fenced `clearAll` — the parent does not reset the observed refs directly; `clearAll` owns the transactional clear of both refs and storage, preventing a stale scope-A callback from corrupting scope B **`localStorageQuota.ts`** — registers `buzz-observed-unread.v1:` in `PURE_CACHE_KEY_PREFIXES` ## Design constraints The cache is a **disposable projection**: versioned key, read-through only, safe to delete wholesale. It does not touch `ReadStateManager`, marker semantics, or `forcedUnreadStore`. Zero overlap with the NIP-RS manual mark-read/unread protocol work in progress in another channel; migration path when that lands is "stop reading the key." ## Test coverage **`observedUnreadStorage.test.mjs`** covers storage primitives: - Key normalization, relay-scoped isolation, round-trip correctness - Age-prune and per-channel cap on read and write; global cap across channels - `deriveLatestByChannel` correctness - Thread-marker prune leaves sibling thread events persisted and lit - Scope-isolation state machine: A rows visible in A, absent in B, restored on A again; late A-scope write does not overwrite B's bucket - Malformed structures/fields, relay/pubkey isolation, quota failure degradation **`useObservedUnreadPersistence.test.mjs`** exercises the real hook via `createRoot` + `act`: - pagehide flush: event recorded within debounce window survives reload (headline regression) - Unmount with pending write flushes before teardown - `clearAll` cancels pending debounce so no resurrection after reload - `removeChannel` replaces pending snapshot so sibling channel B survives reload (two-channel repro) - Marker prune: thread and channel markers prune covered events; sibling channels survive - `isScopeLoaded` returns false before identity-reset effect commits, true after - A→B scope switch: pending A-timer is cancelled by flush, A data persisted synchronously (hydration round-trip) - Stale `clearAll` from scope A rejects after scope B loads (observed-cache scope fence) - Stale `removeChannel` from scope A rejects after scope B loads (observed-cache scope fence) - API object identity stable across unrelated re-renders (catch-up stability) **`useUnreadChannels.test.mjs`** exercises the full parent-to-owner seam with real hook mounts: - Stale `markChannelRead` from scope A does not corrupt B's observed bucket after flush - Stale `markAllChannelsRead` from scope A does not overwrite B's bucket after flush ## Deferred Issues deferred to the NIP-RS arc (`#unread-messages-ux`) or future hardening — not regressions introduced by this PR: - **Stale-scope `forcedUnreadRef` / `markContextRead` exposure**: a stale scope-A `markChannelRead` or `markAllChannelsRead` still deletes B's `forcedUnreadRef` entries and advances B's NIP-RS markers via `markContextRead` before the observed-cache fence rejects. This is pre-existing on `origin/main` (identical shape at lines 316/330). Fix requires touching `forcedUnreadStore` and marker paths — out of scope for Fix A. Deferred to the NIP-RS work. - **`isScopeLoaded` empty-scope hardening**: `isScopeLoaded()` returns `true` when `pubkey` and `relay` are empty strings (no active session). A guard could assert non-empty identity before stamping scope-loaded. Low risk in practice since the hook is only mounted after auth, but could be tightened. - **Catch-up batch scheduling**: `handleChannelMessage` and the catch-up loop each clone the full events map per event via `scheduleObservedUnreadWrite`. For channels with large backlogs this produces O(n) snapshot clones per catch-up batch. A batch-schedule API (single snapshot at end of batch) would reduce allocations. Not observable in normal use; deferred as a performance optimization. --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: npub1mn7jgtj4w2pd0g0zeuhxsa6jy6p0rewxz4kujt98my82ahfmp72sxjexk7 <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: npub1mn7jgtj4w2pd0g0zeuhxsa6jy6p0rewxz4kujt98my82ahfmp72sxjexk7 <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): show cached display names on startup (#3317)
## Why Buzz restores cached channels and messages before profile lookups complete. On launch, that briefly exposes pubkey-derived labels in place of familiar display names. ## What - Persist a bounded, relay-scoped cache of last-known display names, NIP-01 names, and NIP-05 handles - Seed batch profile queries from those labels immediately, while keeping them stale so the existing relay request revalidates them - Keep cached data presentation-only: avatars and ownership metadata are not persisted or used to seed profile-detail caches - Remove cleared or missing profiles, purge a relay's labels when its community is removed, and include the cache in local-storage quota recovery - Add unit coverage for parsing, bounds, eviction, malformed data, and cleared profiles - Add an E2E regression that delays the relay profile response and verifies the cached name is rendered first ## Risk Assessment Low. The cache is disposable, capped at 1,000 entries per relay, scoped by normalized relay URL, and always revalidated. It contains only public label fields and does not restore avatars, agent ownership, or authorization state. ## Verification - `just ci` - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm test` — 3,727 passed - `pnpm exec playwright test tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts --grep "cached profile labels"` — passed Generated with Codex |

feat(desktop): locally stored NIP-49 encrypted key backup (#2937)
## Summary
Adds a locally stored **NIP-49 encrypted key backup** (`ncryptsec`) to
the desktop app, per the plan reviewed in buzz-development (Rev 3,
approved 9/10 by Wren; implementation also reviewed and approved 9/10).
**Two-artifact design — canonical bytes originate entirely in Rust:**
- `create_ncryptsec_backup` runs under the `identity_mutation` lock:
encrypt → decrypt-verify against the live pubkey → atomic `0o600` write
to `{app_data_dir}/identity.ncryptsec` → reread/byte-compare → return
the exact persisted bytes. The frontend never re-derives or re-encrypts.
- `save_ncryptsec_copy` writes a portable copy via the save dialog
(parse-gated, secret-file semantics) and never mutates canonical state.
- `generate_backup_passphrase`: 6 words from the EFF short wordlist via
`OsRng` (custom passphrases min 12 chars).
- Import accepts `ncryptsec1` with optional password; the raw-`nsec`
path is untouched. Different-pubkey import and sign-out wipe the
app-managed backup (post-commit, best-effort — a failed import can never
destroy the still-live identity's backup; regression-tested).
**Never-relay guarantee (egress guard + tripwires):**
- `egress_guard.rs` fail-closed at all 8 `/events` submission boundaries
(relay submit funnel, 3× `relay.rs`, huddle STT, both engram submitters,
native WS choke point), rejecting `ncryptsec1`/`NCRYPTSEC1` in text and
binary frames. Scope is deliberately ncryptsec-only: pairing
intentionally carries raw nsec inside its encrypted session.
- Site-granular `/events` inventory tripwire: per-file (`/events` count,
guard-call count) pairs; unlisted files expect zero. Mutation-style
tests prove a ninth site in an existing file, a removed guard, and a new
unlisted file all fail the scan.
- ncryptsec source-allowlist scans in **both** trees (Rust + TS).
**Frontend:** onboarding `BackupStep` is encrypted-by-default — the
default path never invokes `get_nsec` (e2e asserts the command log).
Raw-nsec export stays behind an explicit click with prior semantics.
Shared `EncryptedBackupCreator` powers onboarding + a new settings row;
the import form auto-switches to encrypted mode on `ncryptsec1` paste
(case-insensitive HRP).
**Open product call for @tlongwell-block:** onboarding default is
*encrypted* in this PR; flipping to raw-default is a small change either
way (documented in the plan).
Review history: plan Rev 3 and the implementation were both iterated
with Wren to 9/10 (two blockers from round 1 — import ordering,
inventory granularity — plus an uppercase-bech32 hardening gap, all
fixed in `dde37183e`). Thread: buzz-development.
### Related issue
Follow-up to the direction explored in #385 (NIP-PB, closed) — this
ships local NIP-49 (the standard) instead of a new NIP. No open
duplicate found.
### Testing
All at exactly `dde37183e` (same shell, HEAD verified):
- `cargo test` — 1680 passed / 0 failed / 14 ignored (includes a
deliberate ~70s log_n-18 NIP-49 round trip, spec vector, wrong-password,
NFKC, uppercase-vector decrypt, injection test per egress boundary,
inventory mutation tests, import-ordering regression tests)
- `cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings` — clean; `cargo fmt
--check` — clean
- `pnpm typecheck` — clean; JS unit suite 3529/3529; biome (repo-pinned
2.4.16) clean
- Playwright `onboarding-backup` / `onboarding` /
`onboarding-agent-defaults` / `profile-nsec-reveal` — 86 passed, 1 known
avatar-reservation flake (passed on rerun; untouched by this diff).
`passThroughBackupStep` now exercises the encrypted default, so every
downstream onboarding spec covers the new path.
- Note: browser e2e fakes the crypto via the mock bridge (fixed
spec-vector blob); decryption correctness is proven in the Rust tests.
## Latest onboarding integration
The current head adds an additive `IdentityInfo.storage` field
(`ephemeral`, `system-keyring`, `local-file`, or `environment`) so
onboarding can accurately explain where the active identity is
protected. It surfaces storage metadata only—never key material—and
leaves the existing lost/keyring-locked recovery behavior intact.

feat(desktop): raise the install ceiling and make installs observable (#3368)
Windows installs of Goose and other harnesses failed at exactly five minutes with an empty error (#2401). The 300s ceiling was killing installs that were working, just slowly — the Goose step pulls a ~79MB release asset, and Windows Defender scans every file npm extracts. When the ceiling fired it discarded the output it had already read, so the user got a bare timeout string and no way to tell a hang from a large download. ## The ceiling `INSTALL_TIMEOUT` is 900s, and the error names the limit: `install command exceeded the 15m ceiling and was terminated`. It stays a pure wall-clock ceiling with no inactivity kill — nothing observable distinguishes a hung installer from one silently transferring a large artifact, so silence alone never kills an install. A ceiling kill remains non-retryable; re-running a command that already burned 15 minutes costs the user more time with no plausible path to success. The child's exit and both stream drains fold into one resumable settle governed by a single deadline. Waiting on the drains outside that deadline would let a descendant that outlived the install shell hold the output pipes — and the per-runtime install guard behind them — open with no bound, which is the failure the ceiling exists to prevent. So the deadline path terminates the process group on the normal-exit branch too: a leader that exited with a real status still gets its stragglers killed, and the guard cannot stick either way. Whether the leader had already exited only decides the verdict — its real status outranks a timeout. The install shell is a session leader and its descendants inherit the output pipes, so signalling only the leader left them running and the drains blocked on a pipe nobody would close. Escalation keys off the *group's* liveness rather than the leader's, since a descendant that ignores SIGTERM outlives the leader and would otherwise never receive the group SIGKILL. Reaping the killed child and finishing the drains share one bounded grace, so a termination that failed outright cannot extend the ceiling that just fired. ## Output capture Each stream drains into a bounded capture that is *shared* with the reader rather than returned by it, so whatever arrived before a stall is readable at the ceiling — exactly when the output matters most. Output of any size costs a fixed amount of memory. One capture holds two independently bounded views of the same bytes: | View | Head / tail | Cut marker | |------|-------------|------------| | UI (`InstallStepResult`) | 512 B / 1024 B | `... (N bytes omitted) ...` | | Log file | 128 KiB / 128 KiB | `... [N bytes omitted at cap] ...` | The UI budget is screen space; the log's is disk. Both markers are inline, so neither ever implies completeness it does not have. Both ends are cut at arbitrary byte offsets, so a partial character is trimmed and the partial token each cut left behind is dropped — the marker's byte count includes both trims. ## Install log `steps` carries only the last attempt of each step, truncated for display. Everything else — earlier retries, the prerequisite step that actually broke, the managed-Node bootstrap — used to be discarded. `InstallReporter` now appends one self-contained record per attempt of per step to `install-<runtime-id>.log` beside the agent logs, and `InstallRuntimeResult.log_path` carries the file to the UI, where a failure message ends with `Full log: <path>`. Each record is bounded independently by the log-scale capture that produced it, so a first attempt that printed megabytes cannot push out the later record explaining the failure; the run's total is bounded by steps × attempts × per-record cap. Every early return builds its result through one `InstallReporter::failed` helper, so no failure path can omit the log pointer, and synthesized steps go through `record_step` — a step that reaches the UI without passing it would be invisible in the file. Install output can echo a registry token or proxy credential from the environment it ran in, and the file is written unattended. Redaction keys off the *names* of the environment variables the install inherited, snapshotted once per run, rather than a list of known secret value prefixes: a credential with no recognisable shape is exactly the one a prefix match misses. Three name rules apply, because the variables need different treatment: | Rule | Variables | Redacted | |------|-----------|----------| | URL userinfo | `HTTP_PROXY`, `HTTPS_PROXY`, `ALL_PROXY`, `NPM_CONFIG_PROXY`, `NPM_CONFIG_HTTPS_PROXY`, `NPM_CONFIG_REGISTRY` | `user:password` only | | Exact name | `NPM_CONFIG_KEY`, `NPM_CONFIG__AUTH`, `NPM_CONFIG_OTP` | whole value | | Marker substring | `*TOKEN*`, `*SECRET*`, `*PASSWORD*`, `*_PAT`, … | whole value, 8-byte floor | A proxy or registry keeps its host and port, because an install that fails behind one is diagnosable only if the record still says which one it went through, and a bare `user@` with no password is not treated as a credential. npm's own settings are listed by exact name rather than matched on `KEY` or `AUTH` substrings — both occur throughout an ordinary environment on values that are paths and people's names — and they bypass the 8-byte floor, since a six-digit one-time password is a credential at that length. Matching is case-insensitive, which is what npm's lowercase `npm_config_*` spelling needs. `0o600` is set by the create rather than a later `chmod`, which would leave a window where the umask decides. A runtime id that cannot safely be a filename yields no log rather than a sanitized one — a rewritten id could collide with another runtime's log. The file holds exactly one run. A run opens its own session after the runtime id has been canonically resolved — the previous file rotates to `.1` and any older `.1` is removed before the rename, since a rename that will not replace its destination would otherwise wedge rotation permanently on Windows. The session writes a header naming the runtime, the app version (`app.package_info().version` on the Rust side — cannot be mocked or fail), the OS (`std::env::consts::OS`), and the start time: a Windows failure and a macOS one on the same runtime are different bugs, and a stale app version explains a failure that no longer reproduces. Each record carries its attempt's elapsed time. ## Live output line A 15-minute ceiling with nothing behind it but a spinner is indistinguishable from a hang. The same drain seam feeds an `acp-install-output` event carrying the newest complete line, and the three install entry points — Doctor harness rows, the harness catalog dialog, and onboarding runtime cards — render it under the spinner with `aria-live="polite"`. Ordering is keyed on a `seq` monotonic across the whole install, not on the attempt number, which restarts at 1 for every step: keyed on attempt, one step succeeding on attempt 2 would make the next step's attempt-1 output look stale and freeze the display for the rest of the install. Each executed attempt begins with an unthrottled `line: null` clear signal, so a stale failure line cannot sit under the spinner while the retry runs. Events are otherwise throttled to four per second, and the throttle *retains* the newest pending line and flushes it when the window reopens rather than dropping it — at an attempt boundary a drop would silently eat the new attempt's first line. The subscription is mounted for the runtime's whole lifetime rather than started when the install begins. The install command is invoked from the click handler, so the clear and a fast command's first lines can be emitted before React has committed the pending state, and nothing replays them — a subscription that waited for that state would lose the entire output of a short install. The run boundary resets the ordering key when the install settles, since `seq` restarts for the next run, and the line renders only while installing, so a straggler from a finishing drain cannot appear under a fresh Install button. The 15-minute ceiling deliberately stops waiting on stuck drain threads — a hung installer must not freeze the app. That means a drain thread can outlive its `InstallReporter`. Without a generation guard, a drain that calls `offer` after the run settles would publish an event with the run's high `seq`, poison the permanent listener's React state, and cause the next install's restarted `seq=0` events to be rejected. `Live` now carries a `lifecycle: Arc<RwLock<bool>>`; drain threads hold a **shared read guard** from the admission check through the `(self.emit)(...)` call, making the check-then-emit pair atomic with respect to shutdown. `InstallReporter::drop` takes the **exclusive write guard** and stores `false` — this blocks until every in-flight drain publication releases its read guard, then prevents any new admission. Deactivation is bounded: the write lock holds only for the flag store, so it can block at most for the duration of one emit call (microseconds to low milliseconds). Rust drops locals in reverse-declaration order, so `reporter` drops before `_guard`, ensuring the exclusive write completes before the per-runtime concurrency guard releases and a new install can start. ## Also Install result types move to `desktop/src/shared/api/installTypes.ts`, following the existing `searchTypes.ts` / `workflowTypes.ts` convention, and are re-exported from `tauri.ts` and `types.ts` — both already over the file-size cap, so neither can grow to carry them. Two comments described `AdapterOutdated` as applying only to the deprecated package; it also covers a version below the supported floor. desktop: restore direct community member adds (#3634)
## Summary - restore direct community member adds in **Settings → Invites** - keep one consolidated entry point: the dialog now supports both adding someone directly and sharing an invite link - accept npub or 64-character hex keys while preserving role hierarchy (owners: Member/Admin; admins: Member only) - verify an npub direct-add publishes the decoded hex key in a kind `9030` NIP-IA event ## Why The Invites consolidation left `AddMemberDialog` without a live mount point, so the existing direct-add capability disappeared even though its mutation path still existed. This reuses that implementation rather than introducing a second one. ## Before and after | Before | After | | --- | --- | | The consolidated dialog only offered a share link; there was no direct-add path. | The same dialog now presents direct add and share-link controls as one invitation flow. | | | | <details> <summary>Before: Invites page entry point</summary> </details> ## Verification - `pnpm --dir desktop build:e2e` - `pnpm exec playwright test tests/e2e/invites-settings-screenshots.spec.ts --project=smoke` — 4 passed - targeted Biome check on modified files - push hook: Desktop check and 3,783 Desktop tests passed - GitHub CI green except Desktop E2E Relay still running at last status snapshot --------- Signed-off-by: Joah Gerstenberg <joah@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Signed-off-by: kenny lopez <klopez4212@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Joah Gerstenberg <joah@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Amp <amp@ampcode.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: kenny lopez <klopez4212@gmail.com> |

fix(desktop): explain open agent access (#2561)
## Why Hack-day feedback exposed a dangerous mismatch between the UI and the underlying access model. The `Anyone` respond-to mode appeared as a neutral dropdown choice, while a Buzz agent may act with the files, accounts, and tools available on the machine where it runs. People reasonably read this as sharing a bot in a channel. The current UI did not explain that it can also share the agent's available access. ## What - Reframes `respond-to` as **agent access** in user-facing UI. - Uses plain audience labels: **Only me**, **Anyone**, and **Selected people**. - Warns for **both** sharing modes, not just `Anyone` — `Selected people` also hands host access to someone other than the owner, so only the audience phrase differs: > Anyone can use this agent to access your computer, including files, accounts, and connected tools. > Selected people can use this agent to access your computer, including files, accounts, and connected tools. - Names the machine the agent actually runs on. A provider-backed (remote) agent reads: > Anyone can use this agent to access the server it runs on, including any accounts and tools available there. The remote wording deliberately omits the owner's files — those aren't theirs to describe on a host they don't own. - Places the warning below the selector for `Anyone`, but **after** the people picker for `Selected people`, so it never sits between the user and the selection they came to make. - Removes Nostr, harness, pubkey, and `!shutdown` jargon from the primary decision copy. Direct pubkey entry remains available as an advanced path. - Replaces the green open-access avatar dot with an amber warning marker and accessible text. Selected access uses a separate blue status. - Aligns the sidebar action and profile field with the same language. - Records the shared-field disclosure contract in `desktop/src/features/agents/AGENTS.md` so future surfaces do not silently omit it. ## Design decisions **Persistent inline warning, not a confirmation modal.** The setting does not autosave; the consequence remains visible beside the selection until the person chooses **Save access**. This gives the information before commitment without adding a dismiss-and-confirm ritual that would repeat in every create/edit surface. **An unknown run location falls back to the local wording.** It does not hedge with "computer or server". A remote host requires an installed `buzz-backend-*` provider, and without one `WhereToRunSection` never renders — so "server" would name a concept the owner has never been shown. When it *is* remote, they picked that host from the selector themselves. Surfaces never synthesize a run location they don't have. **One resolution site, published through context.** `AgentDialog` resolves the run location (`runLocationForBackend` from `ManagedAgent.backend`, `runLocationForRunOn` from the create flow's `WhereToRunDraft`) and publishes it via `AgentRunLocationContext`. It is not threaded as a prop through `AgentDefinitionDialog` (1047 lines) or `AgentInstanceEditDialog` (1228 lines) — neither uses the value, and both are already over the file-size ceiling. Surfaces outside that tree (`EditRespondToDialog`) pass the prop directly. The copy follows the writing system's guidance for high-sensitivity decisions: lead with the material consequence, use plain actor/action language, keep helper text adjacent and persistent, and never rely on color alone. ## Scope Desktop only. The web and mobile clients do not currently expose this setting. No protocol, gate, runtime, persistence, or backend behavior changes. This does not add team-scoped remote agents. It makes the current local-or-remote access model honest while that product work remains separate. ## Validation - `pnpm exec biome check` and `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit` — clean - `lib/agentAccessWarning.test.mjs` (8/8) — every mode × run-location copy variant, both resolvers, unknown-reads-as-local, blank `runOn` is not a provider - `ui/respondToFieldContract.test.mjs` (8/8) — plain labels, both warning positions, source-order guard that the `allowlist` warning follows the picker, helper-not-inline-copy guard - `agent-access-warning.spec.ts` (3/3) — native local, provider-backed remote (asserts the server sentence and *not* "your computer"), persona-backed edit; includes a bounding-box check that the `Selected people` warning renders below the picker --------- Signed-off-by: David Hamilton <daveh@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Clay Delk <clay.delk@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Clay Delk <clay.delk@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(desktop): recover full local storage on startup (#3182)
## Summary - recover already-full Buzz installs before desktop initialization without deleting healthy caches - enforce a global 2 MiB UTF-16 byte budget across disposable message, channel, timeline-skeleton, and sidebar-skeleton caches, regardless of relay count - route all disposable cache writes through quota recovery and reserve roughly 3 MiB of WebKit's observed ~5 MiB quota for durable state - preserve communities, identities, preferences, drafts, and read state; match only delimiter-qualified disposable namespaces ## Context WebKit enforces an approximately 5 MiB per-origin localStorage quota and Tauri does not expose an app-level knob to raise it to 50 MiB. Buzz 0.4.26 shipped reactive recovery for selected durable writes, but disposable writers swallowed quota failures and their existing limits were count-based per relay rather than byte-based per origin. This PR handles both halves: upgrade recovery for already-wedged origins and proactive global headroom so disposable snapshots cannot drive the origin back to the cliff. ## Safety - startup first probes a one-byte marker; healthy installs retain their caches - only if the marker write fails are the four relay-rehydratable cache namespaces removed - namespace matching requires the `v1:` delimiter, preventing future `v10` or similarly named durable keys from matching - oversized individual snapshots are rejected; crossing the global budget evicts disposable snapshots only - failed recovery leaves the marker absent, so the next launch retries ## Verification - `pnpm test` — 3,670 passed - `pnpm check` - `pnpm typecheck` - push hooks: branch-skew, desktop-check, desktop-test passed - byte-budget tests cover UTF-16 accounting, multiple relays, oversized writes, durable-state preservation, healthy startup, full startup, marker retry, and namespace near misses --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): keep collapsed table separators out of spoilers (#3169)
## Summary - preserve collapsed GFM table separator rows as literal text - prevent `||---:|---|---||` from becoming an animated spoiler canvas - leave normal spoilers and valid multiline tables unchanged ## Root cause When table newlines are lost, adjacent row pipes become `||`. The spoiler remark plugin interpreted the delimiter row between those pairs as a hidden spoiler, so the reported "static" was the spoiler particle animation rather than table layout churn. ## Safety The guard only applies to a paragraph span made entirely of text that exactly matches a multi-column GFM delimiter row. The narrow syntax collision is that an intentional spoiler containing only a delimiter row such as `||---|---||` now renders literally. ## Verification - desktop pre-push checks passed (3,662 tests) - desktop TypeScript typecheck passed - independent review found no blocking issues Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(acp): bring your own harness (BYOH) — generic ACP runtime seam + settings gallery (#2773)
## What
Implements a "bring your own harness" (BYOH) generic ACP mechanism —
replacing per-harness backend code with a data-driven 3-tier system:
- **Tier 1 (compiled-in builtins):** goose, claude, codex, buzz-agent —
unchanged behavior
- **Tier 2 (bundled presets):** cursor, omp, grok, opencode, kimi, amp,
hermes, openclaw, and any future additions — defined in
`PRESET_HARNESSES`, no code duplication, icons stay
TerminalSquare/bundled-asset-only
- **Tier 3 (user-defined custom):** JSON definitions saved to
`custom_harnesses/` under app data; managed via Settings → Agents UI
## Changes
### Core data model
- `HarnessDefinition` — id, label, command, args, env, install URL/hint
- `PRESET_HARNESSES` static table — single source of truth for all
presets; `preset_harness_ids()` derives reserved IDs (D-11: no
hand-maintained copy)
- `source: "builtin" | "preset" | "custom"` tagging on every catalog
entry
### Persistence (B-4, B-6)
- `save_custom_harness_to_dir(dir, definition, rename_old_id)` —
backup-swap atomic write (backs up target → .bak, commits temp → target,
restores .bak on failure, removes .bak on success); safe on Windows
where `fs::rename` over an existing file is "access denied"
- `save_and_warm` / `delete_and_warm` — hold `PERSIST_MUTEX` for the
write + registry-warm pair, eliminating the lost-update race (B-6) where
two concurrent saves could interleave their warm calls and leave a stale
registry snapshot
- Validate-before-mutate: both IDs and env validated before any
filesystem mutation
### Env validation boundary (B-3)
- `validate_harness_definition_pub` calls `validate_user_env_keys` on
definition env at save AND load
- Rejects malformed keys (BUZZ_AUTH_TAG=x forgery shape), reserved keys
(BUZZ_MANAGED_AGENT etc.), NUL bytes, oversized values
### TypeScript boundary (B-2 / Thufir CRITICAL)
- `RawAcpRuntimeCatalogEntry` now declares `definition_env?:
Record<string,string>` and `source: "builtin" | "preset" | "custom"`
- `fromRawAcpRuntimeCatalogEntry` maps `definition_env → definitionEnv`
(camelCase); absent field defaults to `{}`
- Edit form reads `entry.definitionEnv` — env no longer erased on
save-then-edit cycle
### Unified descriptor (Phase A / Thufir F4)
- `EffectiveHarnessDescriptor { command, args, env }` in `readiness.rs`
- `resolve_effective_harness_descriptor()` — single resolver used by
spawn, spawn_hash, summary, get_agent_models (both saved and unsaved),
and readiness
- No competing arg-resolution forms
### Other fixes
- B-5: stop freezing `runtime.defaultArgs` into `record.agent_args` on
normal create paths
- B-7: readiness exec-check — `MissingBinary` variant for custom
commands not found on PATH
- B-8: onboarding transition — `setTimeout(0)` removed, parent-owned
route intent via `navigateAfterComplete` prop
- C-9: collector-discriminating sweep tests with injectable filters
- C-10: `HarnessManagementCard` uses `harnessGalleryLogic` helpers
(killed duplicate filter/sort)
- D-11: `BUILTIN_IDS` derived from `PRESET_HARNESSES` (no
hand-maintained copy)
- D-12: `mobile/pubspec.lock` churn reverted
- D-13: false ownership fast-path comment fixed
- D-14: URL scheme validation for `installInstructionsUrl`
- D-15: OpenClaw Gateway env-locus README line
### Tests added
**B-4 persistence (6 tests):**
`save_to_dir_create_writes_file_and_loads_back`,
`save_to_dir_same_id_edit_replaces_content`,
`save_to_dir_backup_is_cleaned_up_after_same_id_edit`,
`save_to_dir_rename_removes_old_file_and_creates_new`,
`save_to_dir_rename_nonexistent_old_id_is_non_fatal`,
`save_to_dir_roundtrip_with_env_preserves_values`
**B-3 env validation (6 tests):**
`validate_rejects_malformed_key_with_equals_sign`,
`validate_rejects_reserved_key_buzz_managed_agent`,
`validate_rejects_reserved_key_case_insensitive`,
`validate_rejects_nul_byte_in_value`,
`validate_rejects_value_over_per_value_size_limit`,
`validate_accepts_well_formed_env`
**B-2 API boundary (4 TS tests in tauri.test.mjs):**
`fromRawAcpRuntimeCatalogEntry maps definition_env to definitionEnv`,
`defaults definitionEnv to {} when absent`, `preserves source preset`,
`env round-trips through edit payload shape`
## Preset catalog

## Review-fix pass (2026-07-26, Eva)
Fixes from the three-way review (Wren / Dawn / Eva) in the
buzz-generic-acp-harnesses thread, pushed as new commits (no rewrite):
1. **installHint edit round-trip** — form seeding extracted to
`formValuesFromCatalogEntry` (single source of truth), input rendered,
full-definition lossless round-trip regression.
2. **Dangling-delete coherence** — delete allowed; confirm counts
referencing agents (direct pin + persona-inherited); summary rows render
`harness (deleted): <id>`; spawn errors become actionable sentences
(`user_facing_harness_error`); composed delete→summary→start test.
3. **Comma-in-args** — rejected at `validate_harness_definition` (shared
by save AND disk load), mirrored inline in the form.
4. **Registry publish race** — collision/dup filtering moved into
`load_custom_harnesses` (both loaders inherit shadowing rules);
discovery publishes by re-reading the dir under `persist_mutex` (lock
scoped to publish only); deterministic interleaving regressions for
save-during-discovery and delete-during-discovery.
5. **Mechanical** — discarded `belongs_to_us` sweep arg deleted,
`load_global_agent_config` hoisted out of the per-record summary loop,
duplicated doc paragraph + stray SAFETY comment removed.
6. **PGID test de-flaked** — leader kept alive through the assertion.
Known follow-up (filed in review, not blocking): file-size split-outs
queued in `check-file-sizes.mjs` entries.

docs: replace VPN-vendor references with generic wording (#2805)
## Summary - Replace all references to a specific corporate VPN product name with generic "VPN" / "corporate VPN" / "VPN tunnel" / "VPN CLI" language across 15 files (21 lines) - Comment-only and doc-only changes — zero functional impact - Keeps the OSS repo free of vendor-specific assumptions `rg -i warp` returns zero hits after this change (excluding `node_modules`, lockfiles). |
