4afef8649a fix(desktop): restore mention chip identity icons (#7338)
## Summary

Restore the missing **@ glyph for people and robot icon for agents**
after #7133, and incorporate the requested compact public-key display.

- Wrapping mention chips render their existing bounded icon-bearing
leading fragment.
- Readonly chips show bound keys using the same `8 leading…4 trailing`
formatter as the channel member list: `Scout (150b20bd…15dc)`.
- Full literal labels and exact keys remain authoritative in metadata,
profile targets, title/accessible-name attributes, editor text, saved
bodies and recipient tags. Display abbreviations are never used for
recipient lookup.
- Copy/paste restores the full literal label for a complete compact
chip; partial selections remain plain text. Two keys sharing the same
abbreviation still round-trip to their separate exact recipients.
- No recipient-resolution, authorization, wire-format, composer, or CSS
changes. Existing labels, icons, cloud markers and ordinary mentions
remain intact.

## Verification

Published candidate `9365ab9bc9d9c5d10802580cd576f8e378ff492f`, based on
main `e09f715c9d0ee2cb7bf8a39061e601f3a502f588`:

- **6,444 desktop unit tests passed** on this candidate's final source
tree.
- **44 mock-Chromium tests passed, zero retries in the final run**
across mention recipients, clipboard and cloud provenance: exact
recipient selection, ambiguity rejection, send/edit/reopen, forwarding,
full/partial copy, mismatched-key rejection, matching-abbreviation
collisions and 100%/150% narrow-window geometry.
- TypeScript, desktop Biome/check guards, protected-feature production
build and E2E build passed.
- The compact-renderer regression fails with the formatting call
removed. Original missing-icon and hidden-text accessibility regressions
have red/green evidence.
- Fresh self-review traced rendering, full-key metadata, copy
classifier, paste normalization and identity trust. The same display
formatter owns the accepted compact form on both clipboard sides.

Iteration exposed an existing team-insertion separator flake (passed
final full run) and two new fixture assumptions: non-member sends
require invitation, and Chromium rich paste may retain an NBSP
separator. Tests now exercise invitation and normalize only that
separator when comparing the captured full body and exact tags; no
product change was needed for either.

Earlier local repository-wide `just ci` completed in two invocations
because its initial call hit the ten-minute tool limit during Tauri
compilation. Unchanged native/mobile/backend evidence is reused; the
desktop delta received the full checks above and new remote CI. Native
VoiceOver, real Tauri selection, dark theme and non-Chromium observation
were not performed. Browser artifacts exercise real frontend with mocked
Tauri/relay boundaries, not an installed release.

## Review and visual evidence

Current-head CI and automated review must complete after this update;
the old `2997bfb5` green results do not establish this new head.
Required human review remains separate from agent approvals. No
merge/install/restart authorization.

Before/after icon evidence:
https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7338#issuecomment-5544575866

Updated compact-key screenshots are posted below. The editor
intentionally retains the full literal address; only readonly chip
display is abbreviated.

e7e29937a1 feat(desktop): invite owned agents from standalone forums (#7125)
## Summary

In Desktop's standalone Forums, selecting an owned agent from another
device could leave a post or reply unsendable if the agent had not
joined the forum. This adds **Invite / Cancel** to the send flow so you
can resolve membership without leaving your draft.

- **Invite** checks response policy and your permission to add members,
adds the agent to the forum, waits for refreshed membership, then
rechecks authorization before posting to the original destination.
Membership is forum-wide, not limited to one post.
- **Cancel / Escape** keeps the text, attachments and selected
recipients for retry. Unlike chat's **Do nothing / Send anyway**, this
dialog has no reference-only send choice. Invite is disabled while
pending; Cancel remains available.
- Leaving the source post/reply cancels its pending invitation, even if
you return. Errors remain visible, focus returns to the initiating
editor when appropriate, and late completion cannot resume a cancelled
post or interfere with a newer attempt.
- A rejected send restores text, uploaded media and exact selected
recipients to the source draft only if no newer edit, deletion, upload
intent or send supersedes it. Clipboard verification settles before
recipient capture, with stale edits/navigation fenced out.

### Related issue

Targets `main` after #7124 merged. This PR reuses its publication checks
and draft protection; the five forum commits have been replayed
unchanged onto the merged parent. Owned-agent discovery (#7122) is
already merged. Split from #7114.

Forum creation/templates, channel-less Notes and local-agent management
are unchanged. Duplicate-name binding from #7133 is already merged and
retained by this stack. Inviting does not start a remote agent or
promise that it is online or will reply.

### Testing

Forum composer lifecycle tests, including clipboard-settlement cases,
and TypeScript/changed-file formatting checks passed after the restack.
Earlier invitation, focus and transport-recovery browser coverage is
retained, not claimed as a fresh full browser run on this head. See
[live CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7125/checks) for
current-head results. Browser evidence uses mock IPC; no full local
`just ci` pass or native/live-relay validation is claimed.

To try it: open a forum post or reply, select an owned nonmember agent
and send. Cancel, then retry without reselecting; Invite should add that
agent before posting. Deny the add to check the visible error and
retained draft. Navigate away/back during a pending invitation or
rejected send; no stale publication or overwrite of a newer draft should
occur.

![Forum invitation with Invite and
Cancel](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/block/buzz/6481bd088d661975672addcc834231df6ac88705/pr-7125--forum-invite.png)

*Earlier mock-browser capture, not current-head runtime proof. [Error
and successful-post
captures](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7125#issuecomment-5513883462);
no before-state/native capture available.*

**Limits:** cancellation cannot undo accepted membership changes or
dispatched posts; authorization and publication are not atomic. Recovery
is same-window, subject to browser storage limits, and is not a durable
in-flight send journal: reload/crash can lose a pending snapshot.
Cross-window coordination and in-flight upload custody are unchanged.
The parent's legacy member-agent compatibility does not establish
ownership for nonmember invitations.

d595806fc3 fix(desktop): authorize remote mentions at publication (#7124)
🤖

## Summary

In Buzz Desktop, you could own an agent running on another device but be
unable to mention it in a channel where it had not yet joined: it was
filtered out before you could invite it. A selected agent could also
disappear from the message's recipients when permissions changed. This
lets you select an eligible agent in the existing **@ menu**, invite it
from the message composer, and send to that agent—or see an error and
keep your draft rather than silently sending without it.

#### Where the experience changes

| Screen / control | Before → after |
| --- | --- |
| A channel's **Message #…** composer, or a message's **Reply in thread
to …** composer | Type `@` (or use the existing @ button), choose your
agent, write the message and press **Send message**. An owned agent not
yet in the channel can now reach the existing **“Mention people outside
this channel?”** dialog when its response settings allow you to address
it. |
| That dialog's **Invite** button | Previously the membership
requirement could block the agent before the invitation. Now Invite
checks permission to add it, adds it as an agent member of the
**channel** (not just the thread), then rechecks membership and response
permission before sending the waiting message. An agent already in the
channel needs no invitation. |
| Existing direct message, or the new-message screen with the **To:**
field | A mention is checked against the conversation the message will
actually enter, including a newly created direct message, rather than
the old or not-yet-created destination. This does not add an Invite
control to direct messages. |
| Editing a message / sending attachments | The selected agent remains
part of the send or edit attempt through attachment upload and the final
permission check. Lost permission produces a visible error instead of
dropping that recipient. |

**Invite is not the only chat choice.** The existing **Do nothing**
button sends the message *without inviting or notifying the nonmembers*;
their names remain references in the text. Where you cannot invite, that
choice is labelled **Send anyway**. To abandon the send instead, dismiss
the dialog with Escape. Invitation actions are disabled while
preparation is pending, preventing duplicate clicks.

**Leaving and returning must not resurrect a cancelled send.** Switching
threads or leaving the composer cancels its pending invitation, even if
you return to the same thread. Cancellation before dispatch sends no
message; an accepted membership change cannot be automatically undone.
An ordinary send without a pending invitation remains bound to its
original destination rather than following you into another
conversation.

**Failed sends must not overwrite your next draft.** If you leave a
thread, return and replace or deliberately clear its draft while an
older send is pending, the older failure cannot restore deleted text,
recipients or files; success cannot erase the newer draft—even if its
text is identical. An untouched draft cleared automatically for sending
remains recoverable on failure. This protection also covers reopening
the composer and starting a newer send.

The channel timeline also keeps its existing **new-messages / Jump to
latest** button available when newer messages are waiting to be
displayed. For example, after sharing a reply to the channel and closing
the thread panel, you can click the catch-up button to reveal buffered
messages. Closing the thread does **not** guarantee the shared row
appears automatically or force you away from reading history.

These show the relevant UI, not live agent availability, native
authorization or the later draft-storage/catch-up repairs. No
before-state screenshot is available.

Existing coverage exercises exact recipients, invitation
rejection/cancellation, new direct-message destinations, uploads, edits,
thread re-entry and stored-draft deletion. The timeline regression
checks the shared reply becomes visible using the available catch-up
action.

**Integration validation (2026-09-02):** independently reviewed the
routing delta onto root `3a56d178`: seven original patches unchanged;
two reconciliations retain generic publication-error toasts alongside
authorization errors and retain non-authored editability updates. Added
two production-hook regression tests (normal and queued-media
publication) requiring visible generic error, recovered draft and
released pending state.

- Writer validation: **5,995 Desktop tests**, **42 focused tests**, **22
mock-IPC browser journeys** (18 routing, 2 root provenance, 2
destination binding), and **1 voice-note failure journey** passed; lint,
types, size guards and E2E build also passed.
- The broad suite ran before the final formatting-only test amendment,
not as an exact-final-head rerun. Independent AST comparison confirmed
that amendment is semantics-preserving; **4 fresh assertions at final
`1144465d`** passed. Publication rechecked final-head TypeScript,
amended-test formatting and `git diff --check` successfully. No new full
repository `just ci` run is claimed.
- Browser tests use an isolated E2E build and **mock IPC**, not live
relay/native authorization. Historical screenshots above are explicitly
earlier UI evidence, not exact-head runtime certification. Packaged
Tauri/live-relay behavior was not independently witnessed.
- **Published-head gates:** [current CI
run](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33657948560) and
[renewed exact-head formal review
request](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7124#issuecomment-5513218340)
must clear before landing. [Earlier CI
run](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33438436438) and the two
earlier approvals cover `7ffead0f`, not this new head. Root CI/security
clearance remains separate; the independent scoped integration approval
is not merge authorization.

To try it: in a channel or thread, select an owned nonmember agent,
Send, then Invite or Escape and retry. Deny the add or revoke its
response permission before sending: expect a visible error and
recoverable draft, not a message missing the agent. During a pending
send, return to the source thread, edit or clear the draft, then leave
again: late completion must not overwrite that choice.

**Limits:** permission checks and sending are separate operations;
cancellation cannot retract a dispatched message. Draft protection is
same-window, not new cross-window deletion synchronization. Standalone
forum transport failure can still restore text/media without the exact
selected recipients. Native compatibility is inherited: open-source
builds may still recognize a valid legacy, self-declared agent already
in the channel when verified ownership is absent or rejected; that does
not establish ownership or unlock this owned-nonmember invitation path.
Invalid policy from a verified owner is still rejected. No agent
response is guaranteed.

ee883d73fb fix(desktop): bind duplicate mention selections to exact recipients (#7133)
## Summary

Selecting two people or agents named Scout could replace the first
recipient with the second even though the message still looked right.
This binds each selection to its exact identity: the first keeps
`@Scout`, and a conflicting selection gets `@Scout (<full public key>)`.
Removing one no longer removes or redirects the other.

- Reuse the existing **@ suggestion list**; team selection and automatic
agent addressing reserve and reuse distinct labels too. Typing an
ambiguous name manually shows an instruction to use the picker and
preserves the draft without publishing—in chat, edits and standalone
forums.
- Share literal mention matching across recipient extraction, removal,
display and editing so a shorter name cannot claim another recipient's
longer or qualified label.
- Rebuild authored references when a message is edited, and use the
latest authorized snapshot when reopening or forwarding.
Rendering/editing can recover qualified identities only from the
message's recorded references, not from a key typed into its body.
Unresolvable historical names remain literal rather than guessed
recipients.
- Wrap full-key labels within narrow/zoomed layouts while keeping their
complete accessible label and ordinary mention icons. Edit activation
waits for the action menu's focus cleanup before focusing the editor.

### Related issue

Targets `main`; mention spacing (#7128) is already merged. Split from
#7114. This is independent of the #7124 → #7125 remote-invitation stack
and does not expand agent eligibility or invitation permissions. The
separate Enter-selection suffix issue remains tracked in #7253.

### Testing

The desktop unit suite and focused mock-Chromium checks passed on the
published integration candidate, including pending-paste selection,
edit/forwarding, copy and narrow-layout cases; formatting, types and
frontend builds passed. On `0b3b18c0`, 64 focused trust/paste/selection
unit tests and six mock-Chromium tests passed with zero browser retries,
including actual timeline chip copy → fresh channel paste → send and
mismatched-key rejection; TypeScript, changed-file Biome and an isolated
E2E build passed. The broader browser run had copy failures before the
focused repairs and is not claimed as wholly green. See [live
CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7133/checks) for current-head
results. No full local `just ci` pass, native/live-relay or
cross-browser validation is claimed.

To try it: select two same-name recipients, remove one, send, then
edit/reopen and forward; only the intended identities should remain.
Type an ambiguous name without choosing a suggestion and check that
sending retains the draft with an error. Inspect full-key labels in a
narrow window at 150% text size, and open Edit and type immediately.

![Ambiguous mention keeps the chat
draft](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/block/buzz/c48053209b36b3b1bf7197cf2d606d27b48a27c0/pr-7133--ambiguous-general.png)

*Earlier mock-browser captures, not current-head runtime proof. No new
before-state capture; screenshots alone do not prove recipient
delivery.*

**Clipboard trust:** generated full-key-qualified mentions now retain
their exact recipient after copy/paste when the full key matches the
clipboard record and community directory/profile state independently
vouches for the base alias, including numeric collision suffixes. A
qualifier alone does not establish trust. Arbitrary historical labels
still cannot always be reconstructed.

b1f6b7ef77 feat(desktop): preserve mentions across copy and paste (#7228)
Copying a message out of the timeline lost the mention. The rendered
chip drops
the `@` for display, so the clipboard carried "John Smith" — two
ordinary words
no composer could bind back to a pubkey. Pasting into another channel
produced
dead text, and sending it tagged nobody.

## What changed

Every Buzz copy now writes two clipboard flavors in one transaction:

- **`text/plain`** — readable anywhere, sigils restored, no pubkeys.
This is what
TextEdit, Slack, and every other external app receive.
- **`text/html`** — the same content with each mention wrapped in a span
carrying
  `data-mention-pubkey` / `-label` / `-kind`.

On paste, the composer harvests those records, registers each `name →
pubkey`
with the existing mention machinery, and inserts the content: the chip
re-lights
and the send path recovers the identity the author tagged. A marker
attribute
records what the plain flavor holds, so a Markdown copy pastes through
the text
pipeline and a rendered copy through the HTML one.

**Covered surfaces:** timeline selection copy, thread-panel selection
copy,
forum post/reply selection copy, "Copy message", and composer copy/cut —
plus
paste in both the channel and forum composers.

## Trust boundary

Clipboard HTML is untrusted, and the branch treats it that way:

- Records are capped (50), labels bounded (200 chars), and a pubkey must
be
64 hex before it can become a `p` tag.
- **Only mentions the paste actually shows are registered.** An empty
`<span data-mention-pubkey=… -label="Jane Doe">` would otherwise rebind
that
display name for the rest of the composer session, so a later
hand-written
@Jane Doe would chip-light convincingly against the attacker's key. Each
branch registers only the records whose label appears in the text *it*
inserts, matched with `getMentionOffsets` — the same matcher the
send-time
  extractor uses.
- **The visibility gate reads only what ProseMirror will insert.**
`DOMParser` hard-drops `script`, `style`, `title`, `noscript`, `object`,
and
`head` content, so `visible<style>@Jane Doe</style>` beside an empty
chip span
used to smuggle a binding past the gate. Those elements are stripped
before
  either output is derived.
- **A partial chip never gains a sigil.** A selection crossing a chip
boundary
falls through to the browser's default copy, which serializes the full
identity
attributes around a slice of the text — pasting that invented "@Smith"
out of
"John Smith". Paste now leaves a fragment as plain text, tolerating only
what a
whole chip picks up in transit (restored sigil, author casing, U+00A0
swaps,
and the label cap's own ellipsis).

Both clipboard sides share one `matchChipTextToLabel` helper, in the
module that
owns the label attributes, so copy and paste cannot drift on what counts
as a
whole chip.

## Notes

- Mention matching reuses `getMentionOffsets`, so code spans and fences
are
excluded and the longest display name wins.
- The plain flavor inlines chip boxes before reading `innerText`; a chip
is a
flex container, so the browser's own copy split "@John Smith" onto its
own line.
- `MarkdownMention` and `MacEmacsTextShortcuts` are extracted verbatim
from
`markdown.tsx` and `useRichTextEditor.ts` to keep both files under the
size gate.

## Testing

- ~40 unit tests over the flavor builder/parser, the visibility filter,
the
ignored-tag sweep, and the chip-match verdicts.
- A Playwright spec (`desktop/tests/e2e/mention-clipboard.spec.ts`)
driving real
copy/cut/paste DOM events: timeline and "Copy message" of a multi-word
non-member mention pasted into another channel and sent with the
original
pubkey in its `p` tag; the forum copy → forum reply round trip; composer
copy/cut; plain flavor asserted to contain no 64-hex string; the
boundary-crossing drag; and the hidden-record and `<style>` smuggling
vectors.
- Every regression test is bound to a production seam and fails with its
guard
  removed.
- `just ci` / pre-push lanes green (5927 desktop unit tests, typecheck,
lint,
  file-size gate).

752cbfc037 docs(nip-fi): add Blossom kind-24242 media possession-proof exception (#7278)
Adds the media/Blossom possession-proof exception section to
\`docs/nips/NIP-FI.md\`.

## What this changes

Encodes the condition set confirmed by Thufir's security review
(2026-09-03) as normative MUSTs in NIP-FI. Kind-24242 Blossom auth
events are admitted as the NIP-FI pairing possession proof for **media
routes only** — a named, bounded exception with an explicit precedent
fence against expansion.

### Scope fence

Kind-24242 proofs are valid only on:

| Proof type (`t` tag) | Valid route | Method |
|---|---|---|
| `upload` | `PUT /upload` (and temporary alias `PUT /media/upload`
until removed) | PUT |
| `get` | `GET /media/{hash…}`, `HEAD /media/{hash…}` | GET, HEAD |

All other protected routes MUST reject kind-24242 proofs.

### Upload proofs

Exactly one `x` tag over consumed body bytes; temporal check precedes
body consumption.

### Read proofs (the relaxation Will approved)

Host-wide MAY: no `x` required. Exactly one `server` tag matching the
resolved tenant host is a MUST. Optional `x` must match parent hash if
present.

Named residual (verbatim in spec): within at most 60 seconds from
minting (plus 5s future-skew), a captured full header set allows reading
any media blob on exactly one tenant host — read-only,
membership-checked, revocable, not state-changing, not cross-tenant.

### Freshness (Thufir option 2)

- `created_at <= now + 5s` (bounded future skew)
- `now - created_at <= 60s`
- Exactly one `expiration`, valid at admission, satisfying `expiration
<= created_at + 60s`

### Transport/cardinality

Exactly one each of `Authorization` (Nostr scheme), `t`, `expiration`,
`server`; `x` at most once; reject any duplicate, malformed, or
conflicting instance.

### Per-request pairing

Full assertion verification, exact key equality between assertion
`nostr_pubkey` and kind-24242 signer, deny-map enforcement on every
request. Stub gap named.

### Compliance note

PR #7264 implementation is explicitly non-compliant until the bounded
hardening task lands (named gaps: multi-tag acceptance, 3600s window,
optional `server`).

## Behavioral oracle

`FI-TRACE-HTTP-INGRESS` extended to cover kind-24242 admission and
denial cases.

## Scope

Docs-only. No code changes. The code hardening is a separate follow-on
task.

## Requested rebase published — ef40744b

Rebased onto fetched main **47d068e2109d077414cbf2f4f1c927f6d051037a**,
published **ef40744b3aeb4baaf8c81416e1a644fb5b315f91** with the exact
expected-old `df7fad6a` force-with-lease. No merge.

Manual conflicts were additive: preserve main's exact-key identity
documentation alongside the availability contract, and retain both
Bestie props and the shared availability reader in
`UnifiedAgentsSection`. Range-diff confirms unchanged lifecycle policy:
exact-key action-time authority, Unknown versus Offline, rejected
shutdown retains record/memberships, and separate local/provider/owner
gates. Main's exact-key profile routing survives. Both test-only CI
synchronization repairs (natural toast expiry and bounded stderr wait)
are byte-identical to the prior head. All ten original
authors/messages/DCO/material coauthor trailers are preserved;
configured signing policy was not changed.

Fresh checks on the rebased candidate:
- TypeScript, Biome on 26 changed TypeScript files, differential
file-size gate, and diff whitespace: pass.
- Focused production-hook/card/profile units: **58/58**.
- Fresh E2E build, availability/deletion browser: **11/11**, no retries.
- Main exact-key profile cases plus failed-DM send/startup retries:
**6/6**, no retries.

Previously reviewed full Desktop/buzz-agent package and mutation
evidence is reused for unchanged behavior; no ceremonial full suite, new
native/provider test, or `just ci` pass is claimed. Local configs,
dependency links, and historical artifacts are preserved.

Hosted observation: **MERGEABLE**, **BLOCKED / REVIEW_REQUIRED**, no
new-head formal review. [CI
33699735990](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33699735990) is
running (including Rust and Desktop lanes), not a completed success. DCO
and required Security aggregate passed at the observation; the separate
Codex advisory review was skipped. No completed failing check or new
inline feedback observed. Historical approvals are not new-head
approvals. No reviewer/security authorization or merge action was
performed.

## Feature summary and retained pre-rebase evidence

## Summary

In Buzz Desktop, an agent could look online just because it had been
started or deployed, even when there was no current sign it was
connected. Cards and profiles now show availability from the agent's
relay presence rather than a saved launch record, so you can distinguish
an online agent from one that was merely deployed.

Agents cards and profiles use presence reported through the shared
server (the relay). A successful presence read with no online agent
shows Offline; failed/disconnected evidence shows unknown, rather than
retaining a misleading cached Online state.

Lifecycle actions remain separate. An offline agent may still have a
Shutdown action because the deployment record exists. Shutdown reports a
**request**, not proof the process stopped. Offline does not imply that
starting a duplicate agent is safe, and Online does not promise a
response.

### Testing

The same saved provider-backed agent, with only authored presence
changing. These are mock-browser states, not a before/after deployment
or live relay transport test; production UI is unchanged by the later
fixture repairs.

**No online presence:** gray dot, existing Shutdown control retained.

**Online presence:** green dot, same lifecycle control.

To check manually, compare runtime-only transitions with presence
updates, then disconnect/fail the presence read and verify it does not
stay Online. A Shutdown request should not immediately claim confirmed
termination.

#### Historical pre-rebase evidence and limitations (df7fad6a)

Lifecycle production source remains
**`f4bb2ed44e5a989d93c5f51e93c0bbd2dca941be`**. Current published head
is **`df7fad6ae65dda78508317186a95522d1bb22ed9`**: the prior browser
synchronization at `b78d093e` plus an additive two-file Rust
test-harness synchronization described below. No production bytes,
dependency/configuration files, or prior commits were changed; no
rebase. Current live main `0dbd036f5bff33e7ade75e7639f3218d424a6e73` has
identical failing-test/toaster/send-flow source; the causal browser
comparison used latest successfully tested main
`04babf02655440b4dfd37f2e2df605ead0a030d8`.

**Lifecycle/deletion correction:** both Agents and actual profile
deletion now pass the shared exact-key availability reader, not raw
cached data. It reads the canonical query state and connection at action
time, including after awaited channel discovery.
Failed/disconnected/pending evidence and unqueried persona siblings are
unknown; successful missing means Offline only for a requested key.
Successful background refetch cache remains usable; settled failure
revokes it. No second cache or per-row polling was added.

Provider record + channel + Online/Away/**unknown** awaits shutdown
submission before local removal; rejection preserves record/membership
for retry. Established Offline preserves intentional no-request removal.
No route preserves warned local removal. Local agents retain native
stop-before-remove, independent of presence. Profile consent now
describes a shutdown **request**, not remote deletion or guaranteed
termination. Existing ownership and force gates are unchanged.

**Verified, reused exact-candidate validation:** the independently
approved eleven-file patch (SHA-256
`2f69fe12ef0420e62dea1fd8db28cfa22cde5eecaf8080e656310a3e60d0cf86`) was
committed without byte changes. Desktop **5,921 passed, 0
failed/skipped**, including **26 new mounted production hook/IPC
regressions**; rebuilt availability browser suite **11/11 passed, no
retries**, including four actual profile Delete journeys. Desktop check
(existing 4 warnings/5 infos), typecheck, production/protected-feature
artifact matrix, differential file-size/policy and diff checks passed.
No blanket rerun or new full-repository `just ci` is claimed for this
frontend correction.

Production regressions cover cached Online **and Offline**
failure/disconnection, genuine missing/Offline, pending, successful
inflight refetch versus settled error, retained reader, error during
awaited channel discovery, unqueried persona sibling, shutdown
rejection/order/cancel, no route and local authority. Browser fixtures
use safe mock IPC and a retained provider receipt, not a real
deployment. Three restored mutation controls fail: unknown → skip
shutdown (**15** regressions), Agents raw-cache reader (**6**), actual
profile raw-cache caller (**1 browser journey**, false removal on failed
cached Offline). Independent review approved the exact frozen bytes and
added **4/4 cached-empty failure/disconnection probes** across both
callers. This is local independent approval, not formal GitHub/A Team
clearance.

The prior native propagation/poll-count defects remain closed ([earlier
response](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7127#issuecomment-5512278755)).
The prior hover-popover correction at `b55423f6` remains covered by the
full 11-journey browser run: pending/failed/disconnected means no badge
or accessible status, genuine missing/Offline retains an Offline badge.
Its earlier fallback-restoration mutation failed as expected (badge
count 1 rather than 0); that historical witness is reused, not rerun.

**Reused unchanged native/system boundary:** local `just ci` at
`c59067d8` passed workspace/Tauri fmt/clippy, static/policy checks, Rust
unit recipe, native workspace **3,159 passed / 20 ignored**, Web build
and **2,019 mobile tests**. No native implementation changed in this
lifecycle correction. These are historical boundary results, not
new-head native/live certification. [Parent
CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33650549130) passed with
**14 retry-recovered browser flakes**, not retry-free. Old-head
CI/reviews are not current-head clearance.

**Hosted gates:**
[CI33662151103](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33662151103)
on `f4bb2ed4` **FAILED**: smoke shard1 had 322 pass, one failure, one
retry-recovered flaky, two skipped. The failed first-DM retry test timed
out on all three attempts because the error toast intercepted Send. That
failure is preserved, not waived; the scoped test repair below is
published as `b78d093e`.
[CI33668171165](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33668171165)
on `b78d093e` subsequently **FAILED** the Rust unit budget regression
described below. Both original failures remain visible; neither was
retried to green. Exact `f4bb2ed4` and `b78d093e` APPROVED reviews cover
unchanged reviewed bytes, not formal approval of the new head. Fresh
exact-head CI and the established automated technical rereview are the
next gates for `df7fad6a`. Historical deletion responses remain
([5092381800](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7127#issuecomment-5513759316),
[5092391193](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7127#issuecomment-5513763497)).
No formal review dismissed. The [security
notice](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7127#issuecomment-5482231278)
and latest-push maintainer/codeowner policy remain separate actionable
gates: eligible Block organization members own current-range
authorization. No merge/security authority exercised.

**CI causal repair (`b78d093e`, test only):** the error `Message failed
to send: Mock first DM send failed.` is deliberately injected by the
existing fixture. CI screenshot and retry trace show the bottom-right
Sonner notification over the actual enabled Send button. `fill()` leaves
the pointer parked there; Sonner pauses its 4-second lifetime while
hovered. A fast run can click before animation settles (unchanged local
test passed in 2.7s; two actual tested-main CI cases passed first
attempt in 3.3s), which does not disprove the failure. Independent
controlled browser runs on `f4bb2ed4` and tested main `04babf` both
reproduced the same toast hit-test at Send `(1203,627,32,32)`,
persistent hover beyond 4s, and intercepted ordinary click with no
second send. Moving the real pointer to the editor allows natural expiry
and successful ordinary retry, preserving all original
DM-channel/recipient assertions. This same synchronization already
exists in the neighboring agent-startup-failure test.

The one-file correction keeps the visible error assertion, scopes its
toast locator, moves the pointer back to the editor and observes normal
toast removal (bounded 10s) before retry. No forced click, direct toast
dismissal, mocked clock, CSS override, skipped test, production behavior
change, or new backend mock. Six focused browser executions pass
(first-send/startup-failure, three repeats each, no retries); the
held-toast control fails on original bytes at the Send click while the
exact repaired test passes. Biome and diff checks pass. Reuse unchanged
5,921 Desktop / 11 availability browser / four independent probes above;
no semantic production change warrants repeating those suites. Original
failed CI attempt/retries, local fast pass, deliberate failing control
and all traces remain in `WORK_LOGS/AVAILABILITY_CI_B9210A40`. Browser
evidence is mock-IPC Chromium, not native/live-relay certification. The
UI still temporarily overlays Send while a notification is hovered; the
test exercises its real move-away/expiry recovery, not immediate
click-through.

**Rust CI causal repair (`df7fad6a`, test only):** [original Rust / Unit
Tests failure,
job100375291370](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33668171165/job/100375291370)
tested GitHub merge `223dee91a396d8cb4ebf18b9b8559e5a54951235`.
`context_recovery_budget_exhaustion_surfaces_the_error` failed at
`regressions.rs:2756` in **0.091s** because its immediate stderr
snapshot lacked `context recovery budget spent`. ACP context-error
assertions had already passed. The captured prefix shows all three
budgets **32768 → 16384 → 8192 bytes**, above the 4096-byte floor, and
ends during the third attempt. This is **not evidence of floor
exhaustion**. The collector is an independent Tokio task; a stdout
response is not a stderr barrier. Recovery, harness and test blobs were
identical across the compared base/head/merge parents; no production
regression was implicated.

The shared test Harness now provides a bounded event/condition wait,
registering for collector notifications before reading the buffer to
avoid lost wakeups. The budget and adjacent terminal floor assertions
wait for their own diagnostic and retain the matching snapshot. The
budget test still requires the provider's ACP context error and exactly
three recovery rungs, now corroborated by **exactly four provider
calls** and no floor diagnostic. Timeout remains a real failure with
captured stderr. No fixed sleep, weaker assertion, skip,
provider-limit/logging change, dependency/config edit, or production
change.

**Deterministic causal control:** the same real agent/HTTP-provider/ACP
scenario holds only stderr collection behind a one-shot gate until after
stdout responds. The old immediate snapshot fails the original budget
assertion (intentional exit101); the repaired wait explicitly remains
Pending while held, then passes after release. No scheduler-speed
assumption or fixed sleep. This reproduces the observation race under
controlled delay, **not the exact historical CI schedule**. A
missing-diagnostic test proves the wait actually times out. Original
failure and deliberate failing-control logs/patch remain in
`WORK_LOGS/RUST_TRIAGE_06E32D2D` and `WORK_LOGS/RUST_SYNC_BC5758B9`.

**Final candidate validation:** focused recovery **9/9**, floor **1/1**,
absent-diagnostic timeout **1/1** pass. One full touched-package run,
`cargo test --locked -p buzz-agent`: **695 passed, 0 failed, 1 existing
ignored**, including all **54 regressions**. Local nextest was
unavailable, so this uses the repository-supported cargo-test fallback,
not a claim of nextest reproduction. `cargo fmt --check`, package-scoped
Clippy all-targets with `-D warnings`, differential file-size/policy and
diff checks pass. Previously reviewed availability production and the
Desktop/browser evidence above are unchanged and reused; no all-native
blanket rerun. The test-only delta was self-reviewed against collector
ordering, timeout and falsification evidence. Existing production
approval remains valid for those bytes; exact-new-head technical/CI
clearance is not assumed. The required **Security aggregate** is
distinct from optional Codex advisory feedback; no security
authorization, human review contact, or merge was requested.

**Remaining policy limits:** shutdown submission is not harness
acceptance or process termination; confirmed Offline/no-route local
removal may leave a remote process; route discovery is best effort,
membership cleanup uses `Promise.allSettled`, and multi-instance
deletion is sequential/non-atomic. No distributed singleton,
provider-health, tenant-switch cancellation, live relay TTL or packaged
WebView/VoiceOver certification is claimed. The pre-existing DM-header
raw-presence fallback (`ChannelScreenHeader`/`useActiveChannelHeader`)
remains outside this repair and uncertified. Screenshots above remain
historical mock-browser illustrations, not new deletion or native
transport evidence.

44d19f59a5 fix(desktop): preserve spacing after multi-word mentions (#7128)
🤖

## Summary

In Buzz Desktop, choosing a multi-word name and immediately continuing a
sentence could swallow the space after the mention: `Hey @Alice
Chenhello`. This keeps the separator, so the same action produces `Hey
@Alice Chen hello` without moving the caret or repairing the name by
hand.

The editor recognizes the complete selected label, including its
internal spaces, and settles the autocomplete caret after the trailing
separator. Deliberately moving left or clicking inside the label still
lets you edit there; this is not a rule that forces every caret to the
end of a mention.

typing should follow your chosen caret position.

Mock-browser captures, not live remote-agent evidence:

the caret back beyond the separator.

The broader browser run had **132 passes / 6 failures**: two
clipboard-origin setup failures and four generic caret-formatting
failures also reproduced on unchanged main. Full local `just ci` stopped
at three native timing/probe failures; a same-head native rerun passed
**3,005 tests** with 18 existing ignores. This is not a full local-CI
pass. The change fixes insertion and caret behavior, not duplicate-name
recipient selection, discovery or invitation.

c328202cb0 docs(nip-fi): document Git smart-HTTP credential exemption (#7268)
Amend NIP-FI HTTP ingress with an explicit Git smart-HTTP
credential-helper exemption. The exception covers method binding,
endpoint-URL binding, and the `payload` tag requirement for `info/refs`,
`git-upload-pack`, and `git-receive-pack`, while preserving per-request
NIP-FI assertion, key pairing, and deny-map enforcement.

The spec records Git's credential-protocol limitation, the required
compensating controls, and the rule that this exception is limited to
these endpoints and is superseded by per-request signing.

187df22252 docs(nip-fi): adopt deny-until-TTL and extend enforcement to HTTP ingress (#7254)
Spec revision following two decisions: Option B admin deny (2026-09-02)
and the HTTP ingress ruling (2026-09-02). Revises `docs/nips/NIP-FI.md`
only. Follows #7214 (merged spec v2).

## What changed

### Admin disconnect: session-only → deny-until-TTL

The disconnect operation proceeds in two steps, in order:

1. Insert a memory-resident deny entry keyed by `(iss, target_pubkey)`
with absolute expiry `until` — atomically combined with the `(iss, jti)`
replay-identity reservation as one all-or-nothing mutation. If the deny
set is at capacity (per-issuer bound), the relay rejects `503`; neither
the jti nor the deny entry is recorded, and the caller may safely retry
the same signed command.
2. Close all live WebSocket connections for the target pubkey,
synchronously.

The single atomic admission mutation (jti reservation + deny-entry
insertion) lives inside `VerifyCommandJwt` step 7, after all pure
authorization checks. The endpoint only closes sessions on success. This
ordering ensures a capacity failure leaves no state behind and makes the
retry-safe 503 contract implementable.

The deny set is RAM-cache only — no durable storage, no schema changes.
The same operational posture as the JWKS snapshot. A relay restart MAY
forget active entries; the issuer SHOULD re-push still-active deny
entries on observed restart (same publish/cache pattern as JWKS). If the
issuer stops issuing assertions and re-push completes before any
expired-entry reconnection attempt, residual exposure after restart is
bounded by `max(0, min(exp, iat + maximum_assertion_age) - now)`. If the
issuer continues issuing or re-push does not complete in time, that
formula does not apply and access may continue beyond it.

**`until` claim:** Required on the disconnect command JWT. Because an
assertion accepted at the future-skew boundary (`iat <= now + skew`)
remains valid until `iat + maximum_assertion_age`, the latest possible
authority deadline is `now + skew + maximum_assertion_age`. The relay
enforces `until <= now + skew + maximum_assertion_age`. A value above
this ceiling rejects `400`; a past `until` still closes live sessions —
absent an active same-key entry it creates no future denial, while an
active entry remains unchanged under the merge rule.

**Capacity and eviction (per-issuer):** The relay MUST bound the deny
set size **per issuer**. Capacity exhaustion under one issuer MUST NOT
cause rejection of another issuer's commands; the `503` capacity check
is evaluated against the command's own issuer bound. Implementations
MUST evict only expired entries; when an issuer's partition is at
capacity and all entries are still active, the relay MUST reject the new
command `503` without removing any existing entry. There is no LRU
eviction of active denies.

**Issuer-global deny:** The deny entry applies to admission across all
communities served by the relay under that issuer. Identity-level
revocation is intentionally not community-partial.

**Cross-replica propagation:** In a deployment with multiple relay
processes, the deployment MUST propagate both the session-close and the
deny entry to every process serving admissions for the issuer's
communities. The mechanism is deployment-defined (e.g. the existing
inter-process message bus, same posture as JWKS convergence).
Propagation is asynchronous with no protocol-level completion bound. The
issuer re-push duty is the recovery path for lost propagation, exactly
as for relay restart.

**Response shape:** A successful disconnect responds `{"disconnected":
true}` regardless of how many sessions were closed. No session count is
returned; a count would aggregate activity across communities and
constitute an information leak.

**Admission procedure:** Step 5 registers the session's proven `k`
before the deny-set check (new step 6) — ensuring any connection that
straddles a concurrent disconnect is caught by one side or the other.
`FI-TRACE-DENY-SET` oracle covers the per-issuer capacity rule and the
straddling termination requirement.

### HTTP ingress enforcement

Without explicit enforcement, a protected HTTP surface (bridge, invites,
media, git) with NIP-98-only authorization allows a principal holding an
active key to mint fresh NIP-98 events indefinitely — NIP-98 proves key
possession only, not identity. Without assertion verification there is
no expiry bound; the key remains valid for as long as it is accepted.

**Pairing rule:** in enforce mode, a protected HTTP request MUST carry
both:

```
Authorization: Nostr <base64-NIP-98-event>
Nostr-Federated-Identity: Bearer <compact-JWS>
```

The NIP-98 pubkey MUST equal the assertion `nostr_pubkey` claim.
Missing, mismatched, or invalid evidence of either kind denies, fail
closed.

**Verification:** reuses `VerifyAssertion` unchanged — offline, same
JWKS, same claim requirements, same denial classes.

**Per-request:** HTTP is sessionless; every request re-verifies. No
session lifetime, no cached admission. The cumulative residual bound
applies per request.

**Deny-set applicability:** the deny-until-TTL entry introduced above is
consulted per HTTP request identically to WebSocket admission.

**Protected surface:** deployment-configured set of routes, fail-closed
default (unclassifiable routes treated as protected). No normative route
names in the spec.

`FI-TRACE-HTTP-INGRESS` oracle added. Security considerations updated
with HTTP ingress bypass analysis. NIP-98 source reference added.

### Other changes

- `authorization_denied` rejection table row updated to "active deny-set
entry for pubkey".
- Discovery: `maximum_residual_upstream_revocation_seconds` remains
`null` — the deny-until-TTL model is best-effort RAM state and provides
no unconditional finite revocation bound.
- Rejection and privacy: explicit sentence for HTTP denial path.
- Client-attached transport: opening sentence generalized to cover both
WebSocket and HTTP.

83e5962984 fix(desktop): keep explicit agent profiles bound to their exact key (#7131)
🤖

## Summary

In Buzz Desktop, clicking a message from stopped agent A could open
running agent B—and B's controls—because both shared a persona (an agent
definition). This now opens the author you clicked and only that agent's
own controls, so you can inspect an old message without being redirected
to a different running agent.

An explicit public key—the identifier for one agent—now stays exact
across message authors, members, DMs, deep links and Instances rows,
including stopped, archived and relay-only agents. Local controls come
only from a matching local record for that key. A relay-only A cannot
borrow B's Start/Stop/Edit controls or configuration.

Deliberately opening a **persona** is different: it can still select a
representative that respects archived instances or offer Start when none
remains. The change removes competing historical-persona redirects
rather than adding another identity exception.

#### Evidence and limitations

**5,793 desktop tests**, **56 profile/archive browser cases**,
type/static/size checks and repository-wide `just ci` passed. The
historical-message regression fails on unchanged main by opening B

The [advisory security

without a result; it is not a passing check. No availability,
cloud-marker, discovery or mention-routing change is included. These
screenshots do not establish remote delivery, agent execution or
termination.

#### Security authorization history (audit, not clearance)

The [security

for `9c4b6523ceaef0f3d92906fcdb5d9a3b9ede7e17` at 17:55:57 UTC. The
existing [issue-comment workflow
run](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/33422240973) ended
cancelled after the previously reported timeout; it did not produce a
completed security review. Latest exact-head Run/Post Codex jobs are

their original links; consolidating their audit here does not withdraw
authorization or clear the gate. An authorized security workflow owner
must arrange the missing exact-range result.

434dafe958 fix(desktop): discover authenticated owned relay agents (#7122)
🤖

## Summary

An agent you own could be missing from **New message → To:** and
**Channel members → Add people and agents** on a machine that has never
managed it. This PR lets those existing lists find your agent without
requiring a shared channel first. Desktop now checks records proving you
own it, rather than looking only at agents in channels you've already
joined.

**No new screen or control is added.** For example, an agent with
verified ownership and **Who can send instructions → Only me (default)**
can now appear even with no shared channels. Each screen still applies
its existing access rules; this does not make every discovered agent
selectable everywhere.

| Screen / control | Before | After this PR alone |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **New message → To:** recipient picker | An owned agent absent from
this machine and shared-channel bot lists could be missing. | Its named
**agent** row can appear; selecting it adds a recipient chip. This is
recipient selection, not a guarantee that a later message will reach or
wake the agent. |
| **Channel members → Add people and agents** | The same agent could be
missing from **Not in this channel** search results. | Its row can
appear with the existing **Add** button. If you can add members, that
button submits the existing channel-membership request; finding the row
alone changes no membership. |
| **Stream / forum composer → @ suggestions** | An owned agent already
in the channel under an ordinary member role could be missing from agent
suggestions. | Its actual membership is recognized without requiring the
bot role. Agents not managed on this device still need membership in
that channel. |
| **Pulse → Agents** | An agent absent from both local management and
the server's agent list was omitted from the count and author lookup. |
The count and feed's author lookup can include it; notes appear only if
it has published them. |

Being listed does **not** mean the agent is online, add it to a channel,
or grant local Start/Edit controls. For agents not managed on this
device, global **Search** still excludes those configured for “Only me”,
and DM @ selection is not added here. DM @ selection and message-driven
nonmember invitation are addressed in
[#7124](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7124); the standalone forum
**Invite / Cancel** flow is in
[#7125](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7125).

<details>
<summary>Ownership and membership checks</summary>

A discovery lead is not proof: the latest agent profile must have a
valid signature and exactly one valid ownership attestation—the owner's
signed link to that agent. Its response policy must be signed by that
verified owner; an invalid latest policy cannot restore an older
permission. Membership comes separately from the latest server-signed
roster, including removals.

Existing profile cards, owner labels and agent-avatar shapes also use
this stricter verification: malformed or forged evidence must not supply
ownership/agent classification on its own. Valid ownership was already
recognized; no profile-picture or badge design changes.

Attestation time conditions apply to the signed event's timestamp, not a
live expiry timer. Existing legacy compatibility and builds requiring
verified owner policy retain their respective rules. Discovery and
sending remain separate operations, not an atomic permission check.

</details>

### Review corrections

- When runtime and owner policy overlap, **explicit online/away/offline
from the verified latest runtime is retained**. Policy still supplies
ownership/permissions; claimed runtime membership is not restored.
Missing/unrecognized status stays unknown, and invalid latest policy
cannot revive runtime permissions.
- Discovery without runtime evidence is now **unknown**, not offline:
native conversion, both IPC adapters, Pulse, Projects and
profile/session consumers preserve that distinction. Unknown has no
status dot and is not promoted to a deployed/running agent.
- Both relay-only picker paths retain the authenticated owner, including
the existing **managed by you** label. The analogous global Search
projection is fixed without changing its existing “anyone” filter.
- Authorized stored profile activity remains visible when liveness
becomes unknown/absent or the active turn ends. History reads do not
start a live subscription, grant access, or imply current availability.

`0e878664b08cdf7fb2d89d940bc2aa92cdc485f7` adds only the independent
CI-workflow split. Read-only mergeability succeeds; this is not a tested
merged-tree claim.

**Local CI attempt and continuation (not an uninterrupted green run):**
the new exact-head `just ci` passed formatting/static checks, workspace
and Tauri clippy, workspace Rust tests, **5,910 desktop tests**, desktop
production build and Tauri check. Its native main target finished
**3,073 passed / 1 failed / 19 ignored** (exit 101):
`cheap_discovery_reports_absent_before_any_forced_probe` saw a
process-global login-shell counter of 2 instead of 0. The counter
includes unrelated version/adapter probes whose tests do not hold the
failed test's PATH mutex; no managed-agent discovery implementation
changed in the runtime repair. The unchanged failing test then passed
**three isolated invocations**. Only the failed native workspace lane
was retried with `RUST_TEST_THREADS=1 just desktop-tauri-test`: **3,074
main-target tests passed / 19 ignored**, all additional workspace
targets passed (exit 0). The previously unrun `just web-build
mobile-test` tail then passed (exit 0; **2,019 mobile tests**). Earlier
successful lanes were reused; no source/guard changes or blanket CI
rerun. The original failure and all diagnostic/retry logs are retained.

- **71 native `nostr_convert` tests pass**, including seven new
production merge regressions: online/away/offline, missing/invalid
status, policy-only, status-less latest replacement and forged latest
replacement. Before production repair, those seven yielded **4 failures
/ 3 passing controls**.
- Reused frontend evidence from `ae23c1c9` (frontend is unchanged):
Desktop TypeScript and isolated E2E build pass; **9 browser tests / 0
retries**, covering both relay-only picker journeys and seven adjacent
stop-control regressions. Real UI with mock Tauri IPC, not live
relay/native webview.
- Earlier `ae23c1c9` local `just ci` passed without failures, including
3,067 native main-target tests / 19 ignored and 2,019 mobile tests; not
substituted for the new source gate above.
- Reused unchanged repair evidence: **17 real-store/hook history
regressions**, **161 focused tests**, and independent **9 mounted
owner/bot/identity revocation/regrant transitions** with zero hook-phase
native calls. The regression was falsified before repair (14 failures, 3
controls).
- Signed local-server fixtures cover discovery with no local/shared
record, ordinary-role membership, forged ownership, invalid signatures,
duplicate authentication, wrong-owner/latest-invalid policy, revoked
membership and wrong destinations. These establish native data checks,
not a live agent response.

GitHub checks and renewed technical/security review must apply to the
current published head; earlier-head green checks are not
replacement-head proof. Local source review is not formal
code-owner/latest-push approval or exact-range security authorization. A
green security workflow with substantive review skipped is not security
clearance.

### Screenshots

#### Relay-only picker evidence —
`ae23c1c9680a881cee7eed94e259bf15bf8ce3f7`

These cropped rows come from the two real production picker journeys in
[`owned-agent-discovery.spec.ts`](ae23c1c968/desktop/tests/e2e/owned-agent-discovery.spec.ts),
using mock Tauri IPC with **no local agents and no user-search
duplicate**. The fixture supplies verified-owner data and unknown
availability; the browser test checks its presentation, not native
signature verification. Both exact-tip journeys pass without retries. No
live relay, native webview, invitation, delivery or wakeup is claimed.

Before the repair, both relay-only candidate constructors discarded the
owner, so the existing “managed by you” label was absent. These are
after-repair captures; no before image was captured.

#### New Message → To
The relay-only agent retains its authenticated owner label.

#### Channel members → Add people and agents
The matching result retains “managed by you” beside the existing Add
action; the test does not click Add or claim membership changed.

04babf0265 chore(db): drop Phase-A NIP-FI relay-side authority ledger (#7221)
Removes the dead relay-side authority ledger introduced by migrations
0041 and 0042, and the dead `require_attested_key` verifier knob from
`buzz-auth`. Both are unreachable by design under NIP-FI spec v2 (#7214,
squash `d4420eb47`), which makes OSS Buzz stateless for identity: the
relay neither stores nor verifies an authority chain.

## What changes

**`migrations/0044_drop_nip_fi_ledger.sql`**
Drops all fifteen NIP-FI ledger tables and their trigger functions using
`CASCADE` to resolve the circular deferred FK between
`identity_bindings` and `identity_lifecycle_history`. Drops proceed in
FK dependency order: selectors → history/bindings →
enrollment_policies/receipts → parallel drop of auth tables. Restores
`community_write_fence_excluded_table` to its pre-0041 body (removes
NIP-FI table names from the exclusion array).

**`schema/schema.sql`**
Removes the NIP-FI section (~1885 lines of tables, functions, and
triggers) and updates `community_write_fence_excluded_table` to match.

**`crates/buzz-db/src/runtime/migration.rs`**
- Updates the `embedded_migrator_contains_consolidated_initial_schema`
sanity check: count 43→44, adds 0044 assertion block (verifies `DROP
TABLE` statements and absence of NIP-FI names from `schema.sql`).
- Removes ~2580 lines of NIP-FI Postgres integration tests (all
`#[tokio::test] #[ignore = "requires Postgres"]` from the 0041/0042
behavioral coverage).
- Removes the `extract_excluded_table_array` drift check (0042 body no
longer matches `schema.sql` by design).
- Adds `migration_0044_drops_populated_nip_fi_ledger_cleanly`: runs
migrations to 0042, seeds rows in `authorization_operation_receipts` and
`authorization_invalidation_domains`, then runs to 0044 and verifies all
fifteen NIP-FI tables are absent.

**`crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/config.rs`**
Removes `require_attested_key: bool` from `IssuerPolicy` — field,
constructor parameter, accessor, and its contribution to
`derive_assertion_policy_id`.

**`crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/verifier.rs`**
`parse_nostr_pubkey_claim` no longer takes a `policy` parameter. The
`None` (absent claim) arm now returns
`Err(VerifierError::ClaimRejected)` unconditionally instead of
conditionally on `policy.require_attested_key()`.

**`crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/verifier/tests.rs`**
- Removes `missing_nostr_pubkey_denies_under_attested_key_policy` (the
sole `require_attested_key: true` call site).
- Removes `false,` from all eleven `IssuerPolicy::new` call sites.
- Injects `nostr_pubkey` by default in `mint_signed_by` (spec v2
requires it unconditionally).
- Updates `valid_access_token_verifies` to assert
`asserted_key().is_some()`.

**`crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/startup/tests.rs` + `jwks/tests.rs`**
Removes `false,` from all `IssuerPolicy::new` call sites and adds
`nostr_pubkey` to all token-minting helpers.

## Verification

- Fresh-DB migration run to head: all migrations apply cleanly in
sequence.
- Populated-0041/0042-DB migration through 0044: seeds rows in live
NIP-FI tables, verifies all fifteen are dropped without error.

Closes the dead-code inventory item from the spec-v2 cleanup plan
(channel `48374f48`). Follows #7214.

d4420eb47f docs(nip-fi): rewrite NIP-FI as stateless OSS Buzz spec v2 (#7214)
Rewrites `docs/nips/NIP-FI.md` as a stateless spec and deletes the five
companion profiles (NIP-FI-CONF, NIP-FI-DELEG, NIP-FI-EDGE,
NIP-FI-LIFECYCLE, NIP-FI-MODEL) that presuppose relay-side state.

## What changes

### `docs/nips/NIP-FI.md` — full rewrite

The relay-side authority engine (bindings, receipts, lifecycle,
invalidation, leases, delegation, enrollment modes, TOFU) is removed.
The spec settles exactly five things:

1. **Assertion contract**: JWT claims (`iss`, `sub`, `nostr_pubkey`,
`aud` (required), `iat`/`exp`, finite TTL bounds), npub binding
semantics, required NIP-42 proof-of-key pairing. Evidence rules
(assertion-key-mismatch → `authorization_denied`, freshness) preserved
from v1.

2. **Verification**: offline against configured per-issuer JWKS
snapshots; multi-issuer; fail-closed on missing/expired/unverifiable.
Cites `crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/` (PR 3 / `70895b355`) as
implementing the assertion-verification procedure. The
`require_attested_key` flag in `IssuerPolicy` is the enforcement
primitive for the unconditional `nostr_pubkey` requirement; conformance
requires forcing it true for every issuer — follow-on code outside this
PR.

3. **Session policy**: required finite `max_connection_lifetime_seconds`
knob with no permissive default; re-auth on every reconnect; no in-band
renewal.

4. **Admin disconnect API**: session-only normative text with a
dedicated `VerifyCommandJwt` procedure — distinct `typ:
nip-fi-command+jwt`, signed `method`/`path` binding, normative
`maximum_command_age` bound (0 < value ≤ 60 s), atomic `(iss, jti)`
reservation as the final admission step after all pure checks.
Non-normative note documents cumulative residual access: `max(0,
min(exp, iat + maximum_assertion_age) - now)` assuming issuance stops;
states that previously issued assertions remain valid for reconnection
until their authority expires; states that continued issuance extends
access with no protocol-level bound. Non-normative note documents the
session-only vs deny-until-TTL trade-off. This verifier and endpoint are
follow-on code.

5. **Deletions**: bindings, enrollment, lifecycle, receipts, leases,
invalidation, delegation gone. "Out of scope" section names every issuer
and deployment concern explicitly.

### Companion profiles deleted

NIP-FI-CONF, NIP-FI-DELEG, NIP-FI-EDGE, NIP-FI-LIFECYCLE, NIP-FI-MODEL —
all presuppose relay-side binding/lifecycle state.

## What does NOT change

The entire `crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/` Rust crate (PR 3 /
`70895b355`) implements the assertion-verification procedure described
in this spec. No Rust code changes in this PR. The
`require_attested_key` enforcement integration and the
`VerifyCommandJwt` / disconnect endpoint implementation are explicit
follow-on code work.

## Follow-on work (separate PRs after spec merges)

- `require_attested_key` forced-true startup enforcement
- `VerifyCommandJwt` implementation and disconnect endpoint
- Down-migration dropping migrations 0041/0042 (0042 before 0041 per FK
order)
- `schema.sql` NIP-FI sections removed
- `buzz-db` migration test blocks cleaned up

3ed623bb21 feat(db): configurable writer session timeouts (lock, idle-txn, statement) (#6229)
## Why

A wedged relay boot pod holding a relation lock can park every other
writer in the fleet behind it: DB load pins at pool capacity in
`Lock:relation` waits while CPU stays flat, and nothing server-side
releases the lock until the holder dies. We hit exactly this in
production — ~1,400 sessions queued behind one crash-looping pod's boot
transaction for ~20 minutes until kubelet killed the container.

## What

Applies session-level Postgres timeouts to every **writer** connection
inside the existing single `after_connect` hook in `buzz-db`, all
env-tunable through the same `Config::from_env → DbConfig` path as the
existing pool-size knobs:

| Env var | GUC | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| `BUZZ_DB_LOCK_TIMEOUT_MS` | `lock_timeout` | 5000 | statements waiting
on any lock fail fast instead of parking behind a wedged holder |
| `BUZZ_DB_IDLE_TXN_TIMEOUT_MS` | `idle_in_transaction_session_timeout`
| 60000 | reaps wedged clients idling inside an open transaction while
holding locks |
| `BUZZ_DB_STATEMENT_TIMEOUT_MS` | `statement_timeout` | 0 (off) |
opt-in runaway-statement cap; off by default because startup
migrations/backfills legitimately run long statements |

`0` disables a timeout (Postgres semantics) and deliberately passes
through the env parsing — unlike the pool-size knobs where `0` falls
back to the default. The reader pool is untouched: replica sessions
never take contended locks and already fail acquire in 150 ms.

Deployers tune these via plain env vars (`.env`, or `relay.extraEnv` in
the Helm chart) — no code changes needed.

## Behavior change to note

With the 5 s default `lock_timeout`, a boot-time migration or backfill
that waits >5 s on a lock now errors (surfacing in logs / crash-looping
the pod) instead of stalling silently. That is the intended
visible-failure-over-fleet-stall tradeoff; deployers with slow contended
migrations can set `BUZZ_DB_LOCK_TIMEOUT_MS=0`.

## Testing

- `cargo test -p buzz-db -p buzz-relay` — buzz-db green; buzz-relay has
9 failures that also fail on clean `main` in this environment
(api::admin/api::media/mesh_demo — unrelated, pre-existing).
- New config test covers override / `0`-passthrough / invalid-fallback
for all three env vars.
- Extended the existing `writer_pool_safety_hook_is_single_and_composed`
source-shape test so the timeouts can't drift out of the single
`after_connect` hook (SQLx replaces hooks — a second hook would silently
disarm the floor guard).
- `cargo fmt --check` and `cargo clippy --all-targets` clean for the
touched crates.

Closest existing PR/issue: none found.

---
**Update Aug 28, 17:06 EDT:** Rebased onto `main` at `a3730784fc` and
addressed the latest correctness review.

- Ported the timeout policy onto the refactored `buzz-db::runtime` pool
constructor and kept the shared env overlay for relay, admin, deletion,
and audit writers.
- Migration/schema-destruction connections now disable `lock_timeout`
and `statement_timeout` for their intentional long wait/DDL path. This
supersedes the earlier “Behavior change to note”: contended boot
migrations wait for the current migration owner rather than
crash-looping after five seconds.
- The audit worker now preserves and retries the same entry on
PostgreSQL `55P03` lock timeouts, using exponential backoff capped at
one second. Other database errors retain the existing terminal error
behavior, and retries emit `buzz_audit_log_lock_retries_total`.
- Added CI-backed PostgreSQL regressions for writer GUC
installation/migration exemption, audit-pool lock timeouts, and worker
recovery. The worker regression holds the real audit advisory lock past
`lock_timeout`, observes a retry, releases the lock, and proves the
original entry is appended exactly once.

Current verification supersedes the earlier testing notes: workspace
Rust clippy passed with warnings denied; all nine infrastructure-free
backend unit-test lanes passed; all three focused PostgreSQL regressions
passed against PostgreSQL 17; formatting, diff checks, file-size guards,
and desktop frontend checks passed. The Linux Blox workstation could not
run the unrelated Tauri native lane because `glib-2.0` is absent, so
that platform check is left to PR CI.

---
**Update Aug 31, 11:09 EDT:** Rebased onto current `main` at
`c3132c3ee9` and reran the requested audit-lock contention scenario on
Blox at head `896c3fe9ed`.

- `git range-diff` reports both PR commits unchanged by the rebase; the
branch remains two commits and the worktree is clean.
- `cargo fmt --all -- --check` and clippy with warnings denied passed
for `buzz-db`, `buzz-relay`, `buzz-admin`, and `buzz-deletion`.
- All three focused PostgreSQL 17 regressions passed: writer session
timeout/migration exemption, audit writer timeout bounds, and audit
worker recovery of the original entry exactly once.
- Live protocol verification used a head-built relay and CLI, native
PostgreSQL 17/Redis, `BUZZ_DB_LOCK_TIMEOUT_MS=300`, and an eight-second
hold on the community audit advisory lock. The real message was accepted
and persisted once while the lock was held; its audit-row count remained
zero during contention while retries accumulated. After release, exactly
one `event_created` audit row appeared and remained exactly one after an
additional two-second duplicate check. The run recorded nine
lock-timeout retries, zero audit failures, and event ID
`7f8c4ffae28e78555fcf2d56396d6e6c01b3712e5411288dc79e9a54af9d9444`.

c432a111ca feat(mobile): push notifications MVP (#6269)
This PR implements MVP, iOS-only,
[NIP-PL](8d2d0ff5ad/docs/nips/NIP-PL.md)-compliant
push notifications.

A relay with `BUZZ_PUSH_ENABLED` will send a push notification for any
message that appears in the in-app Notifications tab.

## Enrollment flow
The first time the client first connects to a relay with
`BUZZ_PUSH_ENABLED`:

relay → push gateway → APNs -> NSE -> Notification Center

## Known limitations

The APNs wake payload is intentionally constant and opaque: it contains
no originating community or message identifier, in keeping with the
implemented NIP-PL privacy design.

The Notification Service Extension must therefore reconnect to the relay
and resolve eligible messages after each wake. Around overlapping wakes,
timing boundaries, or resolution windows, notification presentation may
occasionally omit an expected message or display a message more than
once.

This best-effort behavior is deliberately accepted for the current
implementation and will be measured during the internal rollout to
determine whether the user experience is acceptable before any broader
deployment; the implementation does not claim exactly-once presentation.

## Validation

Live end-to-end hardware validation used an internal remotely hosted
development relay and push gateway, the APNs sandbox, and a physical
iPhone 12 mini:

- A second real Buzz client published a uniquely marked message through
the hosted relay.
- The relay matched the message and sent the constant opaque wake
through the hosted gateway. The gateway made an actual APNs request; no
`simctl push` or simulated notification was used.
- The iPhone received the notification on its lock screen. The
Notification Service Extension reconnected to the relay, fetched the
event, verified its ID and signature, and replaced the placeholder
content with the real notification title and body.
- After the app populated its shared presentation cache, a final marked
notification visibly showed the sender display name, sender avatar, and
hashtag-prefixed channel name.
- Tapping a lock-screen notification opened Buzz and exercised the
notification-response path and navigated to the corresponding message.

Final validation with a dogfood-signed artifact and production App
Attest/APNs configuration remains a release step.

86b9142a09 refactor(relay): NIP-98 admin auth with Operator/Moderator roles and NIP-11 discovery (#3777)
Adds authenticated, role-based moderation to the relay admin API. On
`main` the admin API is read-only and gated only by `Host`/`Origin`
matching; this branch adds NIP-98 authentication, a two-tier
Operator/Moderator principal model, mutation and staffing endpoints, and
NIP-11 auto-discovery so clients never type the admin URL by hand.

## Authentication (`BUZZ_ADMIN_AUTH`)

`BUZZ_ADMIN_AUTH` accepts `nip98` or `disabled`. Leaving it unset
defaults to `nip98` (fail-secure). Configuration fails closed: any other
value aborts startup, while a lingering `BUZZ_ADMIN_TOKEN` is ignored
with a startup warning — token (bearer) authentication is not supported.
`Host`/`Origin` matching is retained in every mode as defense-in-depth.

- **`nip98`** (default) — per-request signed NIP-98 (kind 27235) events,
resolved to an Operator or Moderator principal with per-person
attribution and individual revocability. Read-write per resolved
principal.
- **`disabled`** — no credential; relies entirely on network-layer
controls (reverse proxy, VPN, firewall) and logs a `WARN` on every boot.
Always read-only: `authorize()` resolves no principal, so mutation and
staffing routes always `403`.

## Roles

Buzz has two independent authority axes after this change.
**Relay-level** roles (new here) are deployment-global: they act across
every community on the relay, through the admin API. **Community-level**
roles (pre-existing, unchanged by this PR) are tenant-scoped: they act
inside one community, through signed Nostr moderation commands.

### Relay level (new)

| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| **Operator** | Full control of the deployment's moderation surface:
read all reports, feedback, and attachments across every community;
resolve reports with enforcement (`delete`/`kick`/`ban`/`timeout`) or
decisions (`dismiss`/`escalate`); reopen and cancel; update feedback
status; and manage the Operator/Moderator roster via the staffing
endpoints. |
| **Moderator** | Day-to-day triage: everything an Operator can do
except staffing — cannot view or change the roster. |

How a pubkey acquires a relay role (resolution order; config always
outranks DB):

1. Listed in `RELAY_OPERATOR_PUBKEYS` → **Operator** (source `config`)
2. Equals `RELAY_OWNER_PUBKEY` while `RELAY_OPERATOR_PUBKEYS` is empty →
**Operator** (source `owner_fallback`, a break-glass grant for
self-hosters that deactivates once any operator is configured)
3. Row in the `relay_operators` table → **Operator** or **Moderator**
(source `db`, managed via the staffing endpoints)
4. No match → `403`

### Community level (pre-existing, unchanged)

| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| **Owner** (community) | Full authority within their community: every
moderation action (delete, kick, ban/unban, timeout/untimeout, resolve
reports, view queue) plus member, role, and invite management. No guard
rails. |
| **Admin** (community) | Same community-wide moderation capabilities as
owner, except an admin cannot ban or time out the owner or a fellow
admin — only the owner may action an admin. Manages members and invites;
only the owner grants the admin role. |
| **Member** (community) | Standard participant; no moderation
capability. |
| **Owner / Admin** (channel) | Channel-local authority only: delete
messages and kick users within their own channel. |
| **Member / Guest / Bot** (channel) | No moderation authority. |

There is no community-level Moderator tier in v1; relay-level Moderator
is the only role by that name.

## Escalation scoping

The operator report queue is an escalation backstop, not the community's
day-to-day triage surface (per `VISION_MODERATION`, the severe class is
the platform's to review rather than the community's). Two rules enforce
that:

- **Escalated-by-default listing.** `GET /reports` with no `status`
parameter returns only `escalated` reports. An explicit
`status=<open|resolved|dismissed|escalated>` filter is always honored as
given, and full visibility across every status stays available for
platform-safety and legal review via `scope=all` (which lists reports
regardless of status). `scope` accepts only `all` and is ignored when an
explicit `status` is present.
- **Auto-escalated `illegal` reports.** Member reports whose category is
`illegal` are ingested with `status=escalated` rather than `open`, so
the severe class reaches the operator backstop without waiting for a
community admin to forward it. Every other category still lands `open`.
Auto-escalation only sets the queue status — it records no moderator
decision and stamps no resolver, so an auto-escalated report is
indistinguishable downstream from an admin-escalated one: the reopen
route returns it to `open` on the same terms, keyed only on status,
never on how the report became escalated.

## Principal resolution and NIP-98 admission

`resolve_admin_principal()` returns `AdminPrincipal { pubkey, role,
source }` per the resolution order above; `None` never falls through as
a role. Admission is ordered so the replay guard is a privilege, not a
public surface: signature/URL/method/payload-hash verification first,
roster check second, and only then is the deployment-scoped replay id
atomically consumed — a validly-signing but unrostered key never
allocates a replay slot. Redis failure fails closed.

## Report resolution, recovery, and enforcement provenance

`POST /reports/{id}/resolve` is a crash-safe enforcement state machine:
decision-only outcomes (`dismiss`/`escalate`) are a single
CAS-plus-audit transaction; enforcement
(`delete`/`kick`/`ban`/`timeout`) claims the report
(`open`→`processing`), runs the durable mutation, then finalizes — a
re-drive resumes at the step marker and converges to exactly-one
enforcement, fenced by a lease and an outbox claim token.

Person-directed enforcement on an `event`-kind report derives its target
from the stored event's author (server-owned truth, never the reporter's
`p` tag) via a single `derive_enforcement_target` shared by the HTTP
driver and the recovery worker. If the reported event was purged before
its author could be read, person-directed actions are rejected pre-claim
and the report stays `open`; `delete` needs only the event id and is
exempt.

`GET /reports/{id}` and the resolve response carry an `activeAction`
field surfacing the enforcement that actually executed — a report
dismissed after a reopen still reports the ban that ran. `POST
/reports/{id}/reopen` returns a terminal report to `open` (idempotent on
`requestId`). `POST /reports/{id}/cancel` is the sole recovery path for
a pre-mutation `failed` action, attributed via
`relay_admin_actions.cancelled_by`.

## Feedback

`GET /feedback` and `/feedback/{id}` survive a tenant purge: provenance
columns are severed to `NULL` rather than cascade-deleted, and the
attachment path fails closed to `404` on a severed row. `PATCH
/feedback/{id}` updates lifecycle `status`
(`new`/`reviewed`/`archived`).

## Staffing and probe

`GET/PUT/DELETE /operators/{pubkey}` are Operator-only; mutating a
config-backed pubkey returns `409 Conflict`. `GET /operators` returns
the union of config and DB principals with per-entry `source`. `GET
/probe` reports auth mode, role, source, `canAct`, and `canStaff` for
the desktop console.

## NIP-11 auto-discovery

The NIP-11 relay-information document gains an optional `admin_api`
field carrying the canonical admin origin (`scheme://host[:port]`, no
path), present iff `BUZZ_ADMIN_HOST` is set and omitted otherwise. The
scheme follows the same loopback rule as NIP-98 `u`-tag verification via
a shared `scheme_for_host` helper, so the advertised origin and the
origin the relay verifies against can never diverge.

## Operator API origin decoupling

`RELAY_OPERATOR_API_ORIGIN` is no longer required at boot when
`RELAY_OPERATOR_PUBKEYS` is set — it is used only by the
community-provisioning endpoints, which fail closed at request time
(with a boot-time `WARN`) until it is set. The admin console needs no
origin.

## Admin-web adaptation

The standalone `admin-web` dashboard signs each request as a NIP-98
event via a NIP-07 browser extension, discovers the auth mode with a
single unauthenticated probe (`200` → `disabled`, anything else →
`nip98`, fail-secure), and carries no token entry surface. Playwright
coverage exercises the NIP-98 and CSP paths.

## Security hardening

Three findings from security review are folded in:

- **Append-only roster audit.** `PUT`/`DELETE /operators/{pubkey}`
mutate the deployment-wide root of trust, but the upsert overwrites
`role`/`added_by` in place and the delete removes the only row — so a
grant→revoke sequence left no trace of who was ever granted or by whom.
Each mutation now writes an `relay_operator_audit` row (actor, target,
`grant`/`revoke`, pre-image `prev_role`, `new_role`, timestamp) inside
the same transaction as the mutation. A per-target transaction-scoped
advisory lock serializes concurrent mutations of the same pubkey before
the pre-image read, so the recorded `prev_role` is always the true
predecessor even under a concurrent-grant race. Chronology is keyed on a
`BIGINT GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY` `seq` column, not the wall clock:
the serializing lock guarantees insertion order and `seq` captures it,
so ordered reads (`ORDER BY seq`) follow the true privilege chain even
across a backward NTP step that a `clock_timestamp()` ordering would
invert. `created_at` (`clock_timestamp()`) is retained as informational
occurrence time only. Append-only by construction — no `UPDATE`/`DELETE`
path and no API surface. A no-op delete writes nothing.
- **`expirationSecs` overflow.** The timeout path built `Utc::now() +
Duration::seconds(secs as i64)` from an attacker-controlled `u64`:
`i64::MAX` panicked the handler, and a wrapped-negative magnitude minted
a *past* expiry that still passed validation. `compute_timeout_until`
now rejects zero, rejects magnitudes above a documented
`MAX_TIMEOUT_SECS` (365 days), and uses checked
`try_seconds`/`checked_add_signed` so no input can panic or produce a
past expiry — over-cap, zero, `i64::MAX`, and wrapping-negative inputs
all return a clean `4xx`.
- **Uppercase-hex config-backed bypass.** Config pubkeys are lowercased
at parse, but the `409` immutability check raw-string-compared the path
param while `decode_hex_pubkey` accepted uppercase — so `PUT
/operators/{UPPERCASE}` skipped the guard and wrote a shadow row for the
same 32 bytes. The validated param is now canonicalized (lowercased)
before the `409` check, DB write, `DELETE`, and response body.

## Migrations

- `0035_relay_operators.sql` — `relay_operators` roster table
(deployment-global), `actor_authority` on `moderation_actions`,
`processing` status plus `active_action_id` on `moderation_reports`,
`status` on `product_feedback`.
- `0036_relay_admin_actions.sql` — enforcement-action table with a
`request_id` idempotency key, a `step_marker` for crash recovery, and a
`cancelled_by` attribution column.
- `0037_relay_admin_action_lease.sql` — lease fencing for the action
worker.
- `0038_relay_admin_outbox_claim_token.sql` — fenced claim token on the
outbox worker.
- `0039_relay_operator_audit.sql` — append-only `relay_operator_audit`
trail for roster mutations (see Security hardening).

`docs/admin/README.md` documents the full principal model, NIP-98 event
requirements, capabilities by role, the startup error matrix, and the
discovery field.

## Production blast radius

A relay without `BUZZ_ADMIN_HOST` is completely unaffected — the admin
surface stays disabled and `BUZZ_ADMIN_AUTH` is ignored; a lingering
`BUZZ_ADMIN_TOKEN` logs a startup warning and must be removed. Where
`BUZZ_ADMIN_HOST` **is** set, unset `BUZZ_ADMIN_AUTH` defaults to
`nip98` (per-person signed auth); `BUZZ_ADMIN_AUTH=disabled` reproduces
`main`'s prior `Host`/`Origin`-only gating but is read-only (mutation
routes `403`). The five migrations add tables and columns without
touching existing data.

953a1798b2 feat(auth): add NIP-FI canonical assertion verifier and contracts (#6776)
The closed, provider-neutral contract layer at the root of the NIP-FI
federated-identity dependency graph — Phase A, PR 1 of the plan. It has
no dependencies on any other PR and defines no database schema,
migration, runtime JWKS fetching, binding resolution, enrollment, or
request/proof binding; those belong to later PRs.

## What this adds

- **Multi-issuer assertion-policy config** (`IssuerRegistry`,
`IssuerPolicy`) keyed by exact `iss`. Identity is issuer-qualified
`(iss, sub)` throughout — equal `sub` under different `iss` are distinct
identities. The subject coordinate is fixed to the JWT `sub` claim
(`SUBJECT_CLAIM`), never configurable, so no deployment can seal a
mutable attribute like `email` as identity. Issuer URL and audience
remain deployment configuration.
- **The two deterministic semantic contract identities** —
`AssertionPolicyId = H(canonical assertion-policy contract)` and
`TransportContractId = H(canonical transport contract)` — derived by
length-prefixed, domain-separated SHA-256 so a semantic change moves
exactly its owning ID while benign JWKS rotation never changes policy
lineage. Set-valued policy inputs (audiences, algorithms, subject-class
values, scope capture) are canonicalized before derivation, so the ID is
invariant under permutation and duplication. Config fields that a
freshness class never reads are rejected at construction (an
`offline-jwt` policy cannot carry `maximum_status_age`), so the
canonical encoding stays total over valid configs and semantically
identical policies always derive one ID.
- **The single canonical verifier** (`FederatedAssertionVerifier`,
`FI-INV-16`) producing the origin-sealed, provider-neutral
`VerifiedAssertion` normalized result. Its constructor is crate-private,
so unverified claims cannot be promoted into authority. The issuer→JWKS
authority is entirely crate-owned: `AssertionKeySet` has no public
constructor and `IssuerKeySource` is sealed, so no downstream crate can
relabel one issuer's keys as another's. The authenticated key set is
bounded (`MAX_JWKS_KEYS`) and the bound is folded into
`AssertionPolicyId`, so an unbounded attacker-controlled `kid` scan
cannot be driven; every snapshot requires a finite positive hard
deadline.
- **Sealed revalidation dependencies** — `RevalidationDependencies`
carries the key-snapshot hard deadline and a `ConfidentialAssertion`
handle to the exact compact JWS (no `Debug`/`Display`/`serde` leak, sole
read path `compact_jws()`), so a changed snapshot can revalidate the
same evidence: a retained key revalidates, a removed key denies.
- **The privacy-preserving four-class denial contract** (`DenialClass`,
`FI-INV-13`) with the byte-exact Nostr text, HTTP status, body,
`Content-Type`, and `WWW-Authenticate` values fixed by the spec's
rejection table. An unreadable required current dependency maps to
`authorization_unavailable`/503, never to rejected evidence, and
rejected evidence never masquerades as a 503 at either end of the
pipeline: all bounded, dependency-independent checks (compact structure,
header, signature shape, policy, algorithm, token class) precede
key-source lookup, and all offline validation (token-class, key,
signature, audience, claims, time) completes before any status-witness
deferral. A wrong-`typ` or structurally malformed token, or
malformed/invalidly-signed input naming a current-status issuer,
therefore denies with `evidence_rejected`/403 rather than being reported
as a 503 availability signal.

## Corrections applied to the mined source

Mined from the `buzz-auth` verifier core in
[#1476](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/1476) and corrected to the
settled spec (the merged `docs/nips/NIP-FI*.md`,
[#5946](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/5946)), which settled after
#1476 was written:

- Token-class selection with exact `typ` enforcement. Two classes are
offered: `at+jwt` and `nip-fi+jwt`. There is deliberately no
generic/absent-`typ` "named compatibility" class: it cannot be proven
disjoint from an OIDC ID token by claim presence alone (an issuer can
mint an ID token carrying `client_id`), and the only authenticated
discriminator is `typ`, which such a mode declines to constrain.
- OIDC ID-token denial — denies even when `iss`, `aud`, and `sub` match,
via exact `typ` mismatch against every accepted class.
- The fixed `nostr_pubkey` claim accepted only as lowercase hex of
exactly one 32-byte key; bech32 and other aliases deny.
- Resource-owner / client-subject ambiguity denial and required
`client_id` for `at+jwt`.
- JWK admissibility: a key's `use` and, when present, `key_ops` must
authorize signature verification (a key restricted to other operations
such as `encrypt` is rejected), and the selected JOSE algorithm is bound
to the key's required family and curve (ES256↔EC/P-256, ES384↔EC/P-384,
EdDSA↔OKP/Ed25519, RS/PS↔RSA). The JWK `alg` is advisory; the actual key
material is what signs, so a JWK declaring a matching `alg` over
mismatched material (a different family or curve) is rejected before
signature verification.
- Spec-exact time arithmetic (`now < exp`, `iat <= now + skew`, `now <
iat + maximum_assertion_age`, equality at expiry is expired).
`exp`/`iat`/`nbf` accept finite integer or fractional RFC 7519
`NumericDate` values with checked, overflow-safe conversion; non-finite
and out-of-range values deny.

## Verification

In-crate tests in `crates/buzz-auth/src/nip_fi/verifier/tests.rs` sign
real ES256 assertions against a fixed test key and cover: the happy
path, exact-wire-text for all four denial classes, deterministic and
semantic contract IDs, canonicalization invariance, token-class
enforcement including ID-token denial, JWK `key_ops` rejection,
`nostr_pubkey` hex handling, time bounds, and multi-issuer selection
(same subject across distinct issuers yields distinct identities and
policy IDs). They also cover the round-3 contracts: the key-set bound
(oversized rejected, at-bound accepted, empty rejected), fixed-`sub`
identity (identity is `sub` not a configured `email`; a token without
`sub` denies), offline-before-deferral (invalid-signature,
wrong-audience, malformed-claim, and expired under a current-status
issuer each deny 403/`evidence_rejected`), and the revalidation
contracts (dependencies carry the deadline and exact JWS; a retained key
revalidates, a removed key denies). And the round-4 contracts:
algorithm↔key-material binding, covered exactly per accepted algorithm
(a table-driven matrix asserts every policy-acceptable algorithm —
ES256, ES384, EdDSA, RS256/384/512, PS256/384/512 — matches only its
required family/curve and rejects every other, so each mapping mutation
fails individually; and an ES256 token against P-384, RSA, and Ed25519
material each deny `InvalidKey`); malformed evidence classified before
key lookup (wrong-`typ`, two-segment, four-segment, empty-signature, and
non-base64url-signature tokens against an empty source deny 403 not
503); `maximum_status_age` inapplicable under offline-jwt rejected at
construction while current-status still requires it; and fractional
`NumericDate` (finite fractional `iat`/`exp`/`nbf` within bounds verify,
non-finite and out-of-range deny). Compile-fail doctests guard the
sealed authority seam (`AssertionKeySet::new`, `IssuerKeySource`) and
the absence of the named-compatibility token class.

## Notes

- `Co-authored-by` attribution is preserved for the mined author. The
#1476 `buzz-auth` commits are authored by Cea Stapleton Cordasco (the
salvage map records #1476 under Franco; the git history on that PR is
Cea's — surfacing for the attribution/closure record).
- Amends `docs/nips/NIP-FI.md` to remove the "named compatibility access
token" class and its `FI-TRACE-TOKEN-CLASS` oracle reference, so the
normative spec matches the two-class root implementation (a
generic/absent `typ` cannot be proven disjoint from an OIDC ID token).
Removal-only, no neighbor redesign; a `docs/nips/` grep confirms no
dangling cross-reference to the class remains.
- Adds `jsonwebtoken 10.4.0` (`aws_lc_rs`) as a workspace dependency.

Dependencies: none.

8471049c43 feat(desktop): add KLIPY GIF search to composers (#5554)
## Summary

- Supersedes #1913 with a KLIPY-hosted URL implementation.
- Adds KLIPY GIF search and trending results to desktop message and
forum composers.
- Keeps selected GIFs hosted by KLIPY; Buzz stores only the external URL
and media metadata (no imeta tag, since relays only accept hash-backed
local `/media/` entries).
- Aligns the Emoji/GIF picker with Buzz's standard segmented control,
theme surfaces, and motion behavior.

## Relay-to-provider boundary

- The relay proxies KLIPY search/share so the `BUZZ_KLIPY_API_KEY` never
reaches the desktop; the key stays server-side behind a redacted `Debug`
impl.
- The dedicated GIF `reqwest` client sets `redirect::Policy::none()`.
Because the API key rides in the request path, following a provider
`3xx` could replay a key-bearing URL to an attacker-chosen host (an
SSRF/key-disclosure primitive). With redirects disabled, a `3xx` returns
as a non-success status that the handlers map to a generic `502`; the
`Location` target is never read or forwarded.
- Admission reuses the established NIP-98, membership, replay, and
per-pubkey rate-limit gates, with an upstream response-size cap and
allowlisting so KLIPY error bodies never cross the relay boundary.

## Accessibility

- Under `prefers-reduced-motion: reduce`, the picker grid renders a
static provider poster (a normalized `jpg` asset) instead of the
animated preview, or a named static placeholder when no poster is
available. It reacts to preference changes while mounted.
`no-preference` keeps the animated preview.
- Selected GIFs carry their title through `ImetaMedia`'s `displayLabel`,
so the composer thumbnail, preview dialog, editor, lightbox, and remove
control all derive one non-empty accessible name instead of an empty
`Attachment ` label. Ordinary hashed uploads keep their existing
hash-derived names.

f249710331 Qualify canonical relay images for staged delivery (#6781)
## Why

Phase 1 of progressive delivery needs an explicit eligibility boundary
before deployment automation can safely consume relay artifacts. Today
the canonical Docker workflow can publish independently of the same-SHA
CI result, the relay does not expose its source/build identity, and the
Helm chart only renders mutable tags.

The existing `ghcr.io/block/buzz-staging-dev` workflow in #6709 remains
a manual pre-merge preview lane. It is deliberately not a canonical
promotion input.

## What changed

- Compile the full source SHA and GitHub Actions build identity into
canonical relay binaries and expose it at `/_status`.
- Gate creation of tagged multi-architecture manifests on the latest
exact-SHA `CI` push run succeeding on `main` or `release`.
- Preserve the signed SLSA provenance and add a signed, release-only
deployment-eligibility predicate with source, build run, qualifying CI
run, and exact compatible Buzz chart version.
- Keep failed or pending builds untagged and without an eligibility
predicate; preview-package artifacts are excluded by package and signer
contract.
- Add optional `image.digest` support to Buzz chart `0.1.8`, retaining
the existing tag fallback.
- Document verification and the intentional boundary between image/chart
compatibility and backwards-compatible database migrations.

## Risk and rollout

Canonical tag publication now waits for same-SHA CI and fails closed
when the newest matching run fails. Per-architecture blobs may remain
untagged after a failed qualification; they are not promotion inputs.
Debug manifests are also CI-gated but do not receive the release
eligibility predicate.

There are no migration or schema-orchestration changes. The companion
BuilderBot infrastructure PR will pin a separately verified canonical
main digest and expose a read-only running-deployment inspection
command. Signed eligibility is available only for artifacts published
after this workflow lands.

## Verification

- Blox: workflow contract fixtures, including stale-green rejection and
predicate structure
- Blox: `actionlint` for `ci.yml` and `docker.yml`
- Blox: 46 Helm unit tests, chart lint, and production/quickstart render
fixtures
- Blox: relay status unit test, workspace Rust formatting, and workspace
all-target clippy
- Live evidence: exact-SHA CI selector chose successful run
`32857345153` for source `9d1e4b257657f382d3111ce748f3da8d063b7671`
- Existing canonical digest provenance verified with `gh attestation
verify`

931747c9c4 Add staging dev relay image workflow (#6709)
## Summary

Adds a manual, collaborator-triggered workflow for publishing pre-merge
Buzz relay runtime images for bb-block staging.

- Resolves a canonical `block/buzz` branch or tag to an immutable commit
SHA before checkout.
- Builds the relay runtime image for `linux/amd64` and `linux/arm64` and
publishes a single OCI index.
- Tags each publication uniquely as `dev-sha-<full
SHA>-run-<run_id>-<run_attempt>` so no tag is ever reused against the
immutable-tag utility ECR pull-through cache (rebuilds of the same SHA
aren't byte-identical, given mutable base tags and `apt-get update`).
- Uses the staging-only `ghcr.io/block/buzz-staging-dev` namespace,
which maps to a distinct utility ECR pull-through path.
- Restricts dispatch to `block/buzz` on `refs/heads/main`; job
permissions are narrowly scoped to `contents: read` plus `packages:
write`.
- Emits a deployment summary with the exact BPCI `repository` and unique
`tag` values, plus the merged manifest digest.
- Keeps the existing production/release image workflow unchanged.

The first real workflow run must confirm GHCR package creation/access
and utility ECR pull-through import for the new package.

2d280376ad perf(desktop): persist channel heads, collapse thread reads and reply sends (#6572)
## Summary

Lands the build-now items from the desktop latency plan
(#ui-performance-deep-dive) as one change. Every perceived-latency hot
path a user hits on launch, channel open, thread open, and reply send
drops one or more round trips.

**A1 — persisted channel heads (the big one).** Native WAL SQLite cache
(`desktop/src-tauri/src/channel_head_cache.rs`) keyed by `{pubkey,
relayUrl}` scope, 32 rows/scope LRU, 1 MiB per-row drop cap,
schema-version reset, corrupt-row tolerance, checkpointed on shutdown.
Three blocking-pool commands: `channel_head_cache_load` / `_store` /
`_clear`. On the renderer side, `CommunityQueryProvider` kicks off
hydration of up to 12 heads when it constructs the query client — the
app, splash and relay preconnect mount immediately; only
`useChannelMessagesQuery` awaits the seed (`channelHeadHydration`), then
consumes a one-shot hydrated gate so a hydrated channel pays **zero**
`get_channel_window` calls on mount and exactly **one** on the
post-subscription refresh, whose response replaces page zero wholesale.
That refresh fires whether live-subscription setup succeeds or fails,
and is sequenced behind hydration so it is always a distinct
authoritative fetch (see Review follow-ups). Bounds-only persisted heads
(zero rows) are not hydrated and take the cold loading path. The
timeline loading latch recognizes native-hydrated rows as restart-safe
so they paint immediately instead of holding a skeleton. The cache is a
paint accelerator only — the relay response is always authoritative.
Replaces the legacy localStorage `messageSnapshot.ts` (removed, -401
lines).

Kill switch: `VITE_BUZZ_CHANNEL_HEAD_CACHE=off` at build time or
`localStorage["buzz-channel-head-cache"] = "off"` at runtime. Cache is
cleared on community removal and scoped per identity, so a replaced
signer never sees the previous identity's rows.

**B1 — thread aux in one response.** Relay thread filters accept
`include_aux`; the bridge appends the same authorized two-hop
reactions/edits/deletions closure a channel window gets
(`build_aux_query` shared with the window path). Renderer
`useThreadReplies` drops its two follow-up aux fetches. `next_cursor` is
computed from reply-kind rows only since aux rows are unpaged.
Documented in `docs/bridge-channel-window.md`. Thread queries keep
`staleTime: 0` (`bcfe04e2f`): an earlier revision raised it to 30s,
which CI's `thread-unread.spec.ts` caught — once the user leaves a
channel, the live subscription stops feeding that thread's cache, so a
reopen must always take the (now single) authoritative read.

**B2 — cached root on reply send.** `send_channel_message` gains
`root_event_id`; when the renderer already holds the parent (channel or
thread cache) it passes the NIP-10 root, and native signs without the
relay round trip that `resolve_thread_ref` used to make. Strict hex
parse; `root_event_id` requires `parent_event_id`; absent root falls
back to the existing relay resolution. The renderer never sends a
guessed root.

**B4** general HTTP pool idle 10s→300s, max idle per host 1→2. **B5**
relay preconnect fires as soon as identity is ready instead of waiting
for `requestIdleCallback`. One e2e test (`relay-reconnect.spec.ts`
"service restart close resets accumulated backoff") had been relying on
the idle-callback batching to skip past its own seeded dial failures
before the channel list painted; `8133d70bb` makes it wait for the
connected state instead (test-only, still fails with the 1012 backoff
reset disabled). **B6** profile freshness 60s→10 min (both the in-memory
entry check and the query `staleTime`). Tradeoff: another user's
display-name/avatar edit can take up to 10 min to propagate to a client
that already holds their profile (relay reconnect refetches
`users-batch` but resolves from the still-fresh per-pubkey entry); your
own edits still evict the entry immediately (`evictUsersBatchEntries` in
`useUpdateProfileMutation`).

### Review follow-ups
Addressing Carl's reviews
[5001114109](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6572#pullrequestreview-5001114109)
and
[5002596542](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6572#pullrequestreview-5002596542),
each pushed as new commits (no rebase):

- `4f06b7770` fix(desktop): mount app while channel heads hydrate;
always revalidate — provider no longer gates children on the cache load;
`refreshAfterSubscribe` runs on subscribe failure too; bounds-only heads
skipped at seed; seed merges into an existing window store. +3 tests.
- `35834cb31` fix(relay): drain aux closure hops across the page clamp —
`query_all_pages` walks the `(created_at, id)` keyset via
`until`/`before_id` until a short page (`AUX_PAGE_LIMIT` =
`DEFAULT_MAX_PAGE_LIMIT`, `AUX_MAX_PAGES` = 64 warn+truncate) so
one-shot `limit: 1000` newest-first no longer drops the oldest
edits/deletions. +3 tests; `docs/bridge-channel-window.md` updated.
- `db21b0531` merge of `origin/main` `e23632941` (#6558, #6312 — no
overlap).
- `5a5566c0f` fix(desktop): sequence post-subscribe refresh behind
channel head hydration — `refreshChannelWindowMessages` awaits
`channelHeadHydration()` and, for a hydration-seeded query (`data !==
undefined && dataUpdatedAt === 0`), the in-flight snapshot fetch before
invalidating. Without this, a subscription that settles before the
SQLite load invalidated a data-less in-flight query; TanStack dedupes
that onto the existing fetch (`query-core` `fetch()` only cancels when
`state.data` exists), which returned the seeded snapshot — 0
authoritative fetches. Regression test reproduces Carl's exact ordering
(fails at `35834cb31` with 0 calls), plus a cold-channel guard that the
fix does not double-fetch.
- `b129231c8` fix(desktop): let concurrent post-hydration refreshes
share one window fetch — found independently by Max and Wren reviewing
`5a5566c0f`: subscribe settlement + reconnect both wake on the same
snapshot promise and both invalidate; the second (default
`cancelRefetch: true`) cancelled and replaced the first authoritative
fetch (3 queryFn calls, not 2, and the cancelled Tauri invoke still hits
the relay). The seeded branch now invalidates with `cancelRefetch:
false` so a second waker joins the in-flight fetch; cold/warm keep the
default (`test_canceled_stale_fetch_cannot_overwrite_catch_up_window`
relies on it). Concurrent regression test fails at `5a5566c0f` with 3.

### Testing
At `b129231c8` (PR head; verified in one shell with `git rev-parse HEAD`
= `b129231c8`): `pnpm check`, `tsc --noEmit`, desktop unit 5,393 / 0,
Playwright `boot-splash` + `channel-head-restart` + `relay-reconnect` +
`relay-reconnect-affordance` + `thread-unread` 34 / 34 on a fresh
`build:e2e`, pre-push hooks green.

At `5a5566c0f`: `pnpm check`, `tsc --noEmit`, desktop unit 5,392 / 0,
Playwright `boot-splash` + `channel-head-restart` + `relay-reconnect` +
`relay-reconnect-affordance` + `thread-unread` 34 / 34 on a fresh
`build:e2e`, pre-push hooks green.

At `35834cb31`: desktop unit 5,390 / 0; `cargo test -p buzz-relay --lib`
910 / 0; fmt + clippy `-D warnings` clean; Playwright 32 / 32 (same
specs minus affordance); GitHub CI green on every job except Smoke (3)
(unrelated project-review row-count + messaging timing flake, per Carl)
and Unit Tests (sherpa cache skeleton, below).

Earlier, all at `8133d70bb` (this PR head is `0c492366d` = 8133d70bb + a
comments-only commit correcting two `profile/hooks.ts` freshness
comments from 60s to 10 min; pre-push desktop check/typecheck/test
5,387/0 re-ran at 0c492366d) in one shell; `origin/main` = `040b203f7`
at PR open, since moved to `4baccd539` (#6558, mobile only — zero file
overlap, `git merge-tree` clean):

- `just desktop-test` — 5,387 passed / 0 failed (includes new hook-level
call-count test: cold = 1, stale-prefetched = 1, hydrated = 0 on mount
then 1 on invalidate with wholesale replacement)
- Playwright smoke `relay-reconnect.spec.ts` + `thread-unread.spec.ts` +
`channel-head-restart.spec.ts` — 30/30 (thread-unread was 8/13 at
`7acbf951b`; relay-reconnect was 15/16 at `bcfe04e2f`). The restart spec
persists a head, reloads into a fresh mock relay with the head fetch
held 5s, asserts the persisted row paints within 2s, exactly one
`get_channel_window` after open, and the stale row is removed when the
authoritative page lands.
- `pnpm typecheck`, `pnpm check` — clean

At `7acbf951b` (everything except the two-line `useThreadReplies.ts`
staleTime revert and the test-only `relay-reconnect.spec.ts` change),
also green in one shell:
- `just desktop-tauri-test` — 2,859 passed / 0 failed across the
workspace (channel_head_cache: wire shape, LRU+caps, schema reset,
corrupt-row skip)
- `just test-unit` — 632 passed (buzz-core/auth); `cargo test -p
buzz-relay --lib` — 908 passed / 0 failed
- `just check` components: fmt-check, clippy, desktop-check,
desktop-typecheck, desktop-tauri-fmt-check, desktop-tauri-clippy,
web-check, mobile-check, file-size-check — all green
- `just desktop-build`, `web-build`, `desktop-tauri-check`,
`mobile-test` (1,661 passed) — all green

CI note: the "Unit Tests" job goes red on this PR and on `main` whenever
it hits a poisoned `rust-cache` entry (an empty-directory skeleton of
`target/sherpa-onnx-prebuilt` that `sherpa-onnx-sys` build.rs trusts),
surfacing as `could not find native static library sherpa-onnx-c-api` in
`buzz-voice` — a crate this PR doesn't touch. Deleting the cache entry
and rerunning turned the job green at `0c492366d` (28/28); it re-poisons
on the next `main` push until the workflow clears that directory after
cache restore.

Reviewed in-channel by Wren (9 / 9 / 9.5) and Eva (9 / 9 / 9), and
line-by-line by me before opening; the staleTime fix re-verified by Wren
and me independently; the relay-reconnect test fix bisected and verified
by me.

d97780b477 docs(nips): comprehensive NIP-FI — core + claimable profiles (EDGE/LIFECYCLE/DELEG/CONF) (#5946)
## What

Comprehensive NIP-FI against `main`: one normative core plus four
separately
claimable profiles, replacing the single-document structure of #3726
(which was
based on #1485's branch, not `main`). Six documents, 1,975 lines, docs
only.

- **`NIP-FI.md` (core, 632 lines)** — issuer-qualified identity `(iss,
sub)`,
independent Nostr proof, client-attached assertion, partial bijection
with
durable tombstones, atomic final admission, bounded leases, private
denials
with a closed response vocabulary, retire/revoke/rotate, two contract
identities (`assertion_policy_id`, `transport_contract_id`), per-policy
  `skew` / `maximum_assertion_age` / `maximum_status_age` with missing
configuration denying, a closed token-class rule (`at+jwt`,
`nip-fi+jwt`,
named compatibility; ID tokens always deny), declared freshness class
  (`offline-jwt` | `current-status`), server-declared body authorization
relevance (NIP-98 payload-binding fix, including a `payload` tag on an
irrelevant-body operation), BCP 14, "equivalent" defined over identity /
bounds / provenance classes, a compact non-normative worked wire
example,
and a non-normative comparison with DPoP, mTLS-bound tokens, and HTTP
Message Signatures. FI-INV-01..16 are normative core text. The
behavioral-oracle table lists exactly 30 oracle IDs, one per row, with
no
  shorthand.
- **`NIP-FI-EDGE.md`** — trusted-edge surface: the
`trusted-proxy-hmac-v2`
envelope + canonicalization, or a private authenticated-edge adapter
under a
reviewed contract; `authorization_domain_id` derivation (exact 16 RFC
9562
UUID bytes); `proof_transport_code` registry (0x01 NIP-42, 0x02 NIP-98;
0x03 Git smart-HTTP and 0x04 Blossom reserved pending their transport
contracts; 0x05–0x7f unassigned pending published stable specifications)
+ extension procedure; body-acquisition bounds; three normative test
vectors. An independent Nostr proof (the NIP-98 event in
`Authorization`,
which reaches the verifier byte-identical, or the NIP-42 event after
connect) is the only decision input outside the MAC; absent or
incomplete
provenance on an edge-required route is `missing_evidence`,
  present-but-failing provenance is `evidence_rejected`.
  Header-trust-without-provenance is nonconformant.
- **`NIP-FI-LIFECYCLE.md`** — provision / disable / re-enable /
administrative
expiry (`binding_not_after`) / pending-replacement lineage, one
conformance
trace per privileged transition; every binding-creating transition
declares
whether it continues or establishes a grant; a private-condition table
for
  CONF enumeration agreement.
- **`NIP-FI-DELEG.md`** — delegated agents; explicit temporal boundaries
matching core's inclusive-`nbf`/exclusive-`exp` idiom, with the
delegated
`skew` configured by this profile; lease deadline anchored to the lease
issue instant; strict path separation — a delegated request carries no
assertion or provenance field, so it cannot traverse an edge-provenance
route and uses ingress on which NIP-FI-EDGE is not required.
- **`NIP-FI-CONF.md`** — conformance evidence: an immutable claim tuple
including the governing document revision and exit fixture digest; the
complete 16-row denial-fixture enumeration with three mechanical
enumeration-agreement checks; mutation adequacy with a countable
denominator — one retained killed mutant per literal oracle-table row
(30 core + 6 EDGE + 11 LIFECYCLE + 7 DELEG + 4 CONF = 58), rows selected
structurally by their first cell, never by section title, with the
release
gate and CONF's own oracle rows stated in the same listed-oracle terms
and
a mutant defined for CONF's own report- and suite-subject oracles; an
interoperability exit test compared over signing inputs (per-transport
NIP-01 serialization for the NIP-98 and NIP-42 proofs; decoded protected
header and claims as JSON values for the assertion), with a shared exit
fixture pinning complete pre-signature header/claim JSON and complete
unsigned event fields for both transports, and mandatory negative
controls.
  `FI-CONF-INTEROP-EXIT` is `deferred` with reason
`no-independent-implementation` until a second independent
implementation
exists; the canonical fixture is editor-authored at
`docs/nips/fixtures/nip-fi-conf-exit.json` and is **not in this PR** —
until
it is published a claim records `pending-canonical-fixture`, valid only
while the exit test is deferred. Explicit not-applicable dispositions,
including `offline-jwt` deployments for the two current-status oracles
and
absence of a revocation-bounded external capability projection for
  `FI-TRACE-CAPABILITY-REVOCATION`.
- **`NIP-FI-MODEL.md`** — non-normative companion; defines no
requirement or
conformance claim and is not claimable.

## Why

The prior draft rated 9 (soundness) / 6 (minimalness) / 7 (elegance) /
7 (correctness) in adversarial + comparative review. This restructure
keeps the
two-invariant spine untouched, makes everything else a claimable
profile, and
collapses five stacked versioning mechanisms into two contract
identities.

Mutation adequacy counts one mutant per literal oracle-table row — a set
two
implementers enumerate identically — instead of "each normative
requirement,"
which had four defensible readings.

Resolved product calls (owner-approved):
1. Enrollment/denial posture is private — boolean enrollment discovery,
TOFU
extension claim not self-advertised, `key_mismatch →
authorization_denied`
joins the denial anonymity set, and replayed evidence is classed
`authorization_denied` so resubmission reveals nothing about commit.
2. Revocation honesty — only `current-status` deployments may advertise
an
   unconditional residual-revocation bound; `offline-jwt` advertises
unbounded/unknown. Access tokens keep RFC 9068 `at+jwt`; `nip-fi+jwt` is
reserved for a separately minted Buzz assertion.

## Acceptance bar

- Nothing in core is deletable without losing a stated core guarantee.
- From the core document plus the CONF exit fixture, a second
implementer can
produce a valid request equal over the request compared object (signing
inputs), and a byte-exact public denial per class — no reference
  implementation.
- Every oracle-table row ships a retained killed mutant satisfying only
the
  entry it was selected for.
- Both deployment profiles (trusted proxy = EDGE, client-held OIDC =
core
client-attached) pass the same lifecycle conformance suite.

## Status

Ready at head e720a5cda. Every revision below is on this branch: the
2026-08-17 and 2026-08-18 review laps (Wren, Dawn, Perci, Sami, Mari,
Quinn)
closed at 513e03b06, 17d455a9b, and 4f913a813; the 2026-08-20 external
line-by-line review (R1–R10, R12) closed across 56e74141e..772ba7a72;
the
2026-08-20/21 adversarial lap (#6437) squash-merged as b8db13d88; the
round-3
external review (R13, R14), the DELEG×EDGE composition note, and three
terminology nits closed at e720a5cda; R11 is this description. Oracle
census: 58 (30 core, 6 EDGE, 11 LIFECYCLE, 7 DELEG, 4 CONF).

Known follow-ups, filed after merge and out of scope here: adapter-only
edge
deployments and FI-EDGE claimability; an EDGE private-condition table
for
CONF's enumeration-agreement check; an enumerable definition of the
positive/negative oracle sets used by the global mutation controls;
NIP-OA's clock-free verification versus NIP-FI-DELEG's wall-clock
expiry.

Supersedes #3726 as the spec vehicle; #1485 remains the design-history
anchor.

122a8b8988 Projects v3: unify sharing, discussions, and issue ownership (#5792)
## Summary

Projects v3 makes repository work shareable, discussion-aware, and
easier to scan in one coherent workspace. People can copy canonical
links, reopen the exact workspace tab, understand issue and pull-request
context at a glance, find related channel conversations, and assign or
unassign issues across Desktop and CLI.

- **Unified workspace** — top-level sections sit above repository
controls in one rounded workspace, with navigation positioned close to
the page heading. README and Files retain branch selection; every
section has a labeled icon header, and Issues and Pull Requests expose
creation from a consistent right-aligned action.
- **Repository management** — the repository selector is always
available, including single-repository projects. Its integrated add flow
lets project owners create a repository manually or select an existing
repository without a separate toolbar button.
- **Readable work-item lists** — issue and pull-request rows use
plain-language context instead of opaque metadata. Files, commits,
issues, pull requests, channels, and contributors share consistent row
density and right-aligned timestamps, while deterministic
fallback-avatar colors keep participants distinct on light backgrounds.
Inbox pull-request metadata wraps between complete phrases and truncates
long channel names instead of compressing copy into narrow columns.
- **Reliable entity links** — projects, repositories, issues, pull
requests, and commits have canonical `buzz://` links, preview cards, OS
deep-link routing, and tab-aware navigation. Reopening the same link
re-applies its destination instead of leaving the user on a locally
selected tab.
- **Related conversations** — repository and work-item views surface
channels discussing the current entity, including participants, channel
navigation, message context, and an explicit notice when discovery
reaches its 500-result cap.
- **Reversible issue ownership** — trusted assignment and unassignment
events work across Desktop, Tauri, `buzz-sdk`, and `buzz issues`.
Assignees appear in project views and the assigned inbox, while
authorized users can remove assignments directly from the assignee row.

Assignment state is derived chronologically from labeled Nostr notes.
Issue authors and repository owners may change any assignee; other users
may only assign or unassign themselves. Shared golden fixtures keep
entity-link grammar and validation aligned across TypeScript and Rust.

The branch also updates `webbrowser` to the patched release for
RUSTSEC-2026-0257.

60ae74b656 fix(desktop): use WEBKIT_DMABUF_RENDERER_FORCE_SHM for NVIDIA/AppImage (#3654) (#4505)
## Summary
- Heuristic and `--safe-rendering` now set
`WEBKIT_DMABUF_RENDERER_FORCE_SHM=1` instead of
`WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1`
- Legacy `DISABLE_DMABUF` stays owned so operators can still set
`=0`/`=1` and take over the decision
- Linux troubleshooting docs updated to match (#3654)

## Test plan
- [ ] unit tests in `webkit_rendering::tests`
- [ ] On NVIDIA + WebKitGTK 2.52: workspace switch no longer SIGSEGVs
where the distro NVIDIA guard does not fire (Debian/Ubuntu
proprietary-NVIDIA may still crash — #3654 stays open for that path)
- [ ] `WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=0` still stands the heuristic down

769ac70b74 fix(media): require authenticated reads (#4610)
This change requires a valid signed Blossom authorization request and
current relay membership for every media GET and HEAD request. It
removes the unauthenticated compatibility path and updates desktop reads
to send the required authorization.

This blocks anonymous retrieval and access after relay-membership
revocation. It does not yet bind a blob to its originating channel, so
someone removed from a private channel can still read a known blob while
remaining a relay member. That channel-ACL follow-up remains required
before closing the full finding.

## Testing

6c40ce394f feat(desktop): cap OpenClaw agent parallelism at 5 (#4019)
OpenClaw connects to a single shared Gateway daemon. Spawning the
default 10 ACP workers per agent is both resource-expensive and
architecturally wrong — each worker opens a separate gateway connection.
Tyler's ruling: cap at 5, lower if needed.

## Contract

Store the requested value (1–32) verbatim at every persistence and wire
boundary. Apply `effective = min(requested, harness_cap)` only at the
four enforcement points:

| Boundary | Implementation |
|---|---|
| Local spawn | `BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS` env var in child `Command` |
| Remote deploy | `launch.policy_env["BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS"]` + legacy
`parallelism` field |
| Restart badge | `SpawnConfigSnapshot.parallelism` stores effective
value; the diff surface displays what actually runs |
| UI copy | Amber hint when requested > cap; no `max` attribute, no
save-path clamp |

`BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS` is added to `RESERVED_ENV_KEYS` — the Desktop resolves
the effective value into `policy_env`; a user-supplied override in `env`
would bypass the cap and is silently stripped.

## Changes

**`managed_agents/parallelism.rs`** (new) — policy core:
- `OPENCLAW_MAX_PARALLELISM = 5`
- `harness_max_parallelism(command)` — keyed on
`normalize_command_identity` so path prefixes, `.exe` suffixes, and
other cosmetic differences are ignored
- `effective_parallelism(command, value)` — identity for uncapped
harnesses
- `acp_agents_value(command, parallelism)` — `env("BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS", …)`
helper

**`runtime.rs`** — spawn clamp: `BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS =
acp_agents_value(effective_command, record.parallelism)`

**`agents_deploy.rs`** — deploy egress clamp: `build_deploy_payload`
resolves `effective_parallelism` once from `descriptor.command`; both
`launch.policy_env["BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS"]` and the legacy top-level
`parallelism` field use that value — the two are always consistent
regardless of stale `record.agent_command` pins

**`spawn_snapshot.rs`** — `from_inputs` stores
`effective_parallelism(&descriptor.command, record.parallelism)` in the
`parallelism` field. Over-cap edits that don't change the pool (e.g. 10
→ 8, both clamp to 5 on OpenClaw) produce equal snapshots; cap crossings
(8 → 3) produce different snapshots.

**`AcpRuntimeCatalogEntry.max_parallelism: Option<u32>`** — derived from
the static definition command, not the probed `entry.command` (which may
be `null` for unavailable entries), so unavailable OpenClaw entries
still carry the cap. Propagated through all four catalog constructors
(builtin discovery, preset catalog construction, custom discovery,
custom-save response), IPC types
(`RawAcpRuntimeCatalogEntry.max_parallelism`), and the frontend catalog
type.

**UI** — `EditAgentAdvancedFields` and `PersonaAdvancedFields` show an
amber hint when `selectedRuntime.maxParallelism` is set and the current
value exceeds it. Cap and label come from the catalog entry — no
hardcoded 5 in TS. No `max` attribute on inputs; the input stays
`type="text"` with 1–32 copy.

**Docs** — `docs/remote-agents.md`: `BUZZ_ACP_AGENTS` moved from the
deliberately-non-reserved section to reserved; new contract documented.
`desktop/src/features/agents/AGENTS.md`: command-keyed execution policy
documented as the sanctioned second metadata source feeding the catalog
projection.

## Tests

**Rust** (`parallelism.rs`):
- `policy_table` — `harness_max_parallelism` and `effective_parallelism`
across all openclaw variants and uncapped harnesses
- `acp_agents_value_openclaw_above_cap_is_capped` — spawn-env seam
- `override_direction_*` — both override directions (openclaw runtime +
goose override; goose runtime + openclaw override)
- `summary_persona_inherited_*` — live persona wins over stale
`agent_command`
- `snapshot_export_carries_requested_definition_parallelism` — requested
value travels wire/sync unchanged

**Rust** (`spawn_snapshot/tests.rs`):
- `openclaw_above_cap_parallelism_snapshots_equal` — stored 10 vs 8,
both clamp to 5 → snapshots equal
- `openclaw_cap_crossing_parallelism_snapshots_differ` — 8 (clamps to 5)
vs 3 → snapshots differ

**Rust** (`discovery/presets.rs`):
- `openclaw_preset_unavailable_carries_max_parallelism` /
`openclaw_preset_available_carries_max_parallelism` — catalog metadata
present with `command: null` and with a resolved path

**Rust** (`agents_deploy.rs`):
- `launch_block_openclaw_over_cap_policy_env_is_capped` — direct
`launch.policy_env` seam
-
`deploy_payload_json_stale_goose_record_live_openclaw_descriptor_both_capped`
— stale `record.agent_command=goose`, live descriptor=openclaw: both
fields cap to 5
-
`deploy_payload_json_stale_openclaw_record_live_goose_descriptor_both_uncapped`
— stale `record.agent_command=openclaw`, live descriptor=goose: both
fields pass through requested
- `deploy_payload_json_explicit_openclaw_override_both_capped` —
explicit `agent_command_override=openclaw`: both fields cap to 5

**Rust** (`persona_events/stale_pin_tests.rs`):
- `apply_persona_snapshot_goose_to_custom_harness_drops_stale_goose_pin`
— custom-direction stale-pin drop (builtin pin → loaded custom harness
via `update_loaded_harness_registry`)

**TypeScript** (`agentParallelism.test.mjs`):
- `parallelismCapHint` — at/below cap (null), above cap (hint includes
label and cap value), singular form for cap=1, uncapped harness (null)

**TypeScript** (`tauri.test.mjs`):
- `fromRawAcpRuntimeCatalogEntry` round-trips `max_parallelism` →
`maxParallelism`; absent when `undefined`

067c085f37 Define private managed agent wire protocol (#4593)
## Summary

- reserve kind `30179` for owner-private managed-agent aggregates
- define the fail-closed owner-self NIP-44 v2 envelope and versioned
payload codec
- bind runnable identity/configuration to complete signed
`30175`/`30177` recovery projections
- validate NIP-OA owner→agent attestations and reject self-attestation
- document NIP-PMA authority, migration prerequisites, privacy, and
deployment order
- keep generic relay ingest closed until private storage and atomic
aggregate CAS exist

## Safety boundary

This is the inert protocol/codec slice only. It does not publish
secrets, change agent authority, migrate local records, or enable kind
`30179` ingestion. The relay regression test proves generic EVENT ingest
still rejects the kind.

The finalized migration plan adds later prerequisites for relay-private
storage/CAS, runtime lease/fencing, Desktop cutover, and harness
authentication. Those belong in staged follow-up PRs rather than
expanding this inert foundation.

## Validation

At commit `67f0ea4ebb8d3ccba3a3eb9374e89a7178913f74`:

- `cargo test -p buzz-core` — 246 unit + 2 doc tests passed
- `cargo test -p buzz-relay
private_managed_agent_kind_remains_rejected_until_atomic_ingest_exists`
— passed
- push hooks: Rust tests and desktop checks passed (`2145` desktop tests
passed, `14` ignored)
- `cargo fmt --all -- --check`
- `git diff --check`

## Review

Princess Donut cleared security/data integrity with no remaining
high/medium findings. Mongo cleared migration compatibility and wire
grammar. The later runtime lease/fencing protocol was also adversarially
cleared as a plan; implementation slices still require independent
evidence before activation.

Deterministic plaintext/signed-projection/auth-tag interoperability
vectors remain a valuable follow-up, not an S0 merge gate; random NIP-44
ciphertext is intentionally not snapshotted.

a1d78f2959 feat: Buzz entity links — rich preview cards + in-app navigation for repos, PRs, and issues (#4695)
## Summary

Gives Buzz-hosted git entities the same "GitHub-style" chat experience
GitHub links already get: rich preview cards, real titles, and
click-through — except clicks navigate **in-app** to the Projects view
instead of a browser.

- **Spec**: `docs/buzz-entity-links.md` — link scheme, slices, and
deferred work (`buzz://project`, OS deep links, web routes).
- **Canonical `buzz://` deep links**: new
`desktop/src/shared/lib/entityLink.ts` with builders + strict parser for
`buzz://pr?id=…&owner=…&d=…`, `buzz://issue?…`, and
`buzz://repo?owner=…&d=…`, mirrored by a Rust module
(`crates/buzz-cli/src/links.rs`) with a shared golden-format test so the
two implementations can't drift.
- **Preview cards**: `linkPreview.ts` recognizes `buzz://` entity links
*and* HTTPS relay clone URLs (`{origin}/git/<pubkey>/<repo>`, the shape
agents paste today). Both normalize onto the canonical `buzz://` href,
so the two spellings of a repo dedupe to one `Buzz`-provider card
(`BuzzMark` logo) rendered by `link-preview-attachment.tsx`.
- **Title enrichment**: PR/issue cards fetch the real subject from the
relay event (`subject` tag or first content line) via
`useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts`; the cache is community-scoped and reset in
`resetCommunityState()`.
- **In-app navigation**: clicking a card or inline anchor (including
HTTPS relay clone URLs whose origin matches the active relay) routes to
the canonical `30617:<owner>:<d>` coordinate via `goProject()`
(`markdown/entityLinks.tsx`). **Merge dependency: #4671 must merge
first** — route resolution for `30617:` coordinates is implemented on
that branch (`feat/multi-repository-projects`). Entity-link and
external-anchor logic were extracted out of `markdown.tsx` to stay under
the file-size ratchet.
- **Agent side**: `buzz pr open`, `buzz issues create`, and `buzz repos
create` now return a ready-made `link` field (omitted when the relay
returns `accepted: false`), and `base_prompt.md` instructs agents to

## Test plan

- [x] Desktop unit tests: pass, including new `entityLink.test.mjs` and
`linkPreview.test.mjs` coverage (golden formats, malformed-link
rejection, clone-URL/`buzz://` dedupe, origin-gated anchor behavior,
label-must-win invariant, cache epoch)

accepted/rejected link guard assertions, clippy + fmt clean
- [x] Biome + `tsc --noEmit` clean; pre-push hooks
(desktop-tauri-checks, rust-tests, desktop-test) pass
- [ ] Manual: paste a relay clone URL and a `buzz://pr` link in a
channel — verify one card each, real PR title, and in-app navigation to
the Projects view

0542bc8b95 docs(nip-am): normative amendment — cache SHOULD/MUST + pricingIdentity + consumer cost guidance (#4632)
Amends `docs/nips/NIP-AM.md` with three normative publisher-behavior
changes per the cleared Usage v2 plan (plan v3, D4 + D2').

## Changes

### 1. Cache emission semantics (D4)

Replaces the unconditional `MAY` with qualified obligations:

- Publishers SHOULD emit `cacheReadTokens` / `cacheWriteTokens` when the
provider exposes a cache component.
- Publishers MUST preserve an explicit zero when the provider reports
zero.
- Publishers MUST omit the field (never null or fabricated zero) when
that component is unavailable to the publisher — including when the
provider supports it but the harness does not surface it.

An explicit carve-out in both the JSON comment block and the
Numeric-validity prose exempts these fields from the payload-wide null
guidance. Omission is the only valid representation for an unavailable
cache component.

### 2. Optional `pricingIdentity` field (D2')

Adds an optional, non-nullable `pricingIdentity` object (`authority`,
`model`, `cacheClass`), defined as billing authority — distinct from the
transport `Provider` enum.

- `authority` is a registered billing-namespace identifier: exact
lowercase hostname, no scheme, no path, no trailing slash. Registered
values: `api.anthropic.com`, `api.openai.com`, `openrouter.ai`. The set
extends only by NIP amendment. Pricing lookup is an exact string match
on `(authority, model)`.
- Present only when the publisher can prove applicability: direct
official-endpoint connections prove via the actually-requested resolved
model; other routes MUST receive response-supplied authoritative billing
identity.
- MUST omit for custom/overridden base URLs, gateways (unless the
gateway is the named billing authority), unresolved aliases, and turns
where usage contributions carry more than one billing identity
(including identity-bearing mixed with unresolved).
- `cacheClass` is omitted (not null) when not applicable.
- `pricingIdentity` is optional but not nullable — omission is the only
absence representation.
- The existing `model` field retains its non-billing semantics
(configured/session model) and is never overloaded.
- Consumers MUST treat omission as "price unknown" and MUST NOT infer a
price from the session `model` field.

### 3. Consumer cost guidance (D4)

- Consumers MAY recompute cost estimates using the billing identity and
a pricing manifest.
- Consumers MUST retain the provenance of any cost value (e.g.
`manifest-estimated`, `wire-reported`).
- Consumers MUST NOT merge manifest-estimated and wire-reported costs
into an unlabeled total.

Manifest-vs-wire display preference is application policy and
deliberately excluded from this NIP.

## Scope

6530b58a61 feat(k8s): Kubernetes backend plugin + desktop deploy path (#4289)
# Kubernetes backend plugin (crates/buzz-backend-kubernetes) + desktop
deploy path

Implements docs/remote-agents.md (merged @ 28ae6cd21) as ONE PR: the
provider
binary, the desktop changes that make it work, the harness inactivity
reaper,
the Sprig image, and the conformance/live-test suites.

Channel: buzz-remote-agents (29414326-dba7-402d-b384-b1b34d63a2e6),
thread c42b70ef.

## What's here (by lane)
- **crates/buzz-backend-kubernetes** (Dawn): stdin/stdout JSON provider,
info +
  deploy; pure classify.rs (one match arm per spec state-machine row);
reconcile/GC with ownership-marker gate + same-clock orphan check;
per-attempt
immutable Secrets; three-tier env with clear-then-write authoritative
tier.
- **Desktop** (Mari): KD3 launch block from resolved descriptor, KD5
pre-secret
negotiation gate (resolve-once → stage-and-digest → info → protocol gate
→
deploy), KD1 Windows extension strip, bundling (externalBin + Justfile +
release/canary workflows + stub loops), tauri.windows.conf.json platform
override (Decision B: no Windows artifact).
- **buzz-acp** (Max): KD4 BUZZ_ACP_EXIT_AFTER_INACTIVITY reaper
(pool-independent;
reset only at accepted dispatch; in-flight turn/heartbeat defers, never
resets);
BUZZ_ACP_EXIT_AFTER_INACTIVITY + BUZZ_ACP_NO_PRESENCE reserved. KD8 fix.
- **Image + tests** (Perci): Dockerfile.sprig (digest-pinned bases, exec
buzz-acp
PID 1, relay-scoped credential config), image contract script, provider
conformance suites (golden wire fixtures shared with desktop tests),
live-local
  runbook (namespace-scoped, shared-cluster safe).
- **Docs** (Sami, first commit): citation re-pin c1bca1b56 → 28ae6cd21
(44/49
were already byte-exact; 3 offsets fixed) + I3 presence-bound correction
(below).

## Named spec deviations (deliberate, each with rationale)
1. **No baked default image yet.** ghcr.io/block/buzz-sprig is
unpublished
(verified: anonymous pull 403 vs control 200). Omitted `image` returns
an
   in-band field-required error instead of a default.
2. **Image override STRICTER than spec §Image:** digest-only
(`name@sha256:<64hex>`); ALL tags rejected; `name:tag@digest`
normalized.
With no baked default the override is the only path, so tag-acceptance
would
make mutability the v1 norm. Strictness is reversible; a moved tag under
an
nsec is not. Baked digest default + tag re-acceptance = follow-up with
image
   publish.
3. **imagePullSecrets not in schema (v1).** Explicit user images may
rely on
namespace-preprovisioned pull credentials — the substrate boundary.
Field
added only if the publish decision proves it necessary. 9-field budget
intact.
4. **Decision A closed: writable empty workspace.** Nest projection =
named
   follow-up; no image-side scaffolding.
5. **Decision D overridden by Tyler (event b55398d8):** provider ships
bundled
with the desktop like buzz-acp/buzz-agent; spec §Distribution's separate
   release workflow deleted for v1.
6. **I3/vision presence bound corrected 90s → 180s.** PRESENCE_TTL_SECS
moved in
#3783 during this spec's base→merge window; the number was inherited,
not
chosen. Spec :206/:216/:928 + inline quote + VISION_REMOTE_AGENTS.md:59
corrected. ← Tyler: the vision is your document; this edit is flagged
for
   your explicit eyes.
7. **Spec citations are pinned to 28ae6cd21** (main at spec merge) and
resolve
there, not at this PR's head — this PR's own lanes move
crates/buzz-acp/src/lib.rs by ~100 lines (19 citations across
KD4/KD6/KD7/
§Stop/§Launch data). Known Defects rows fixed BY this PR retire on
merge;
the section documents main as of the pin.
8. **KD7 grace tension declared:** pod terminationGracePeriodSeconds=60
vs
KD7's measured ~87s shutdown tail at parallelism 10 (~197s at cap 32).
KD7 is ruled out of scope, so L1-3's "enough grace for full graceful
shutdown" is NOT met at default config — deliberate, resolved by the KD7
   follow-up, not silently.

## Question for Tyler
Will ghcr.io/block/buzz-sprig publish PUBLIC? If private-by-policy,
§Image needs
an imagePullSecrets story before the baked-default follow-up can land.

## Out of scope (named follow-ups)
KD6 exit-code contract + KD7 shutdown budget (gate OnFailure), OnFailure
restart
policy, Windows provider binary, PVCs/nest projection, mesh
deployability,
sprig image publish workflow + baked multi-arch digest default.

## Reproduce locally (four traps that cost us real time)

**1. Git hooks inherit the invoking shell's PATH — pin the shell, not
just your
verification commands.** `rust-toolchain.toml` pins `1.95.0`, but the
rustup shim
that honors that pin lives in `~/.cargo/bin`. If Homebrew's cargo is
earlier on
PATH, `cargo` in this repo is 1.89.0, which cannot build the workspace
at all:

```
$ /opt/homebrew/bin/cargo check -p buzz-db
error: rustc 1.89.0 is not supported by the following packages:
  sqlx@0.9.0 requires rustc 1.94.0
  ...                                                    # exit 101
```

Verifying with `PATH="$HOME/.cargo/bin:$PATH" cargo test` does *not*
protect the
push: lefthook's `pre-push` → `just test-unit` re-resolves `cargo` from
the
shell's own PATH, so a green local run is followed by a hook failure on
a crate
you never touched. Export the PATH for the whole shell, not per-command.
This
bit twice.

**2. Line-scope your mutations, or the mutation edits its own
detector.** When
mutation-testing the respond-to guard, a whole-file `sed` on the mode
literal
touches 5 sites — the guard *and* the fixtures/assertions that test it.
The
mutation and its detector move together and the suite stays green, which
reads
as "this code is dead" when it actually means "you deleted the
experiment":

```
# WRONG — 5 sites, guard and tests mutate together
$ sed -i '' 's/"allowlist"/"allowlist-DISABLED"/g' src/env.rs
test result: ok. 145 passed; 0 failed          # false survivor
# RIGHT — 1 site, anchored to the guard's own definition line
$ sed -i '' '/^const RESPOND_TO_ALLOWLIST/s/"allowlist"/"allowlist-DISABLED"/' src/env.rs
failures:
    env::tests::allowlist_mode_with_an_empty_list_is_refused
    env::tests::an_allowlist_entry_that_is_not_64_hex_is_refused
test result: FAILED. 143 passed; 2 failed      # real kill
```

Restore by copying a pristine file back and confirming `git diff --stat`
is
empty, not by re-running an inverse `sed`.

**3. A completeness guard is not a correctness guard.** The shared wire
fixture
`tests/fixtures/provider-wire/deploy-full-launch.request.json` passed
every test
we had while containing four classes of invented data (wrong
`respond_to`
encoding, an env key no emitter writes, allowlist entries that fail the
harness's own 64-hex rule, a `launch.env` key from no descriptor layer).
The
provider's tests could not have caught this: its types are deliberately
indifferent to these values (`Option<String>`, `Vec<String>`, arbitrary
map), so
"the provider parses it" was never evidence that the desktop emits it.
The fix
was not a stronger provider assertion but a rule about provenance —
"recorded"
means executed-and-transcribed, and the desktop's whole-object equality
test is
the only enforcement that can exist. See the fixture README.

**4. Every drift this arc was a value that agreed with itself.** Five
invented
values were found, and not one was caught by an assertion failing — each
was
caught by someone asking where a value came from. A named constant
referenced
symbolically on both the fixture and assertion side. A `sed` that
mutated its
own detector. Six probe rows that all died at the same unrelated error.
A
descriptor struct literal compared against a fixture built from that
literal
(`launch.args: ["run","--session"]`, which the resolver actually returns
as
`["acp"]`). The general defense is not more assertions but provenance: a
stub is
a control that varies nothing, and the more faithful it looks the better
it
hides. Ask what executed, not what passed.

*Fixture-test determinism caveat (post-verification, Quinn + Dawn).* The
desktop's whole-object fixture test calls the real resolver, which
consults a
process-global harness registry whose own docs require
`registry_test_lock`
for any test touching it. The fixture test holds no lock and is
nonetheless
deterministic — but by containment, not by ordering. Measured, not
derived:
planting a definition with `id: "goose"` directly into the registry
(bypassing
the loader) changes the resolved descriptor from `args: ["acp"]` to
`args: ["--poisoned"]`, so `resolve_effective_harness_descriptor`
**does**
reach the registry for this id — it does not short-circuit on the
builtin
table first. Two controls discriminate: an empty registry and a registry
poisoned under a *different* id both return `["acp"]`. What actually
protects
the test is that the registry has exactly one writer
(`update_loaded_harness_registry`, reached only via
`warm_harness_registry_from_dir`) — but that writer concatenates **two**
sources of unequal strength (`custom_harnesses.rs:319-326`). Custom
files
pass through `load_custom_harnesses`, whose `check_id_collision` rejects
the
reserved builtin id `goose` case-insensitively at the loader — and that
leg
is tested (`load_applies_id_collision_check` writes a real `goose.json`
and
asserts the loader drops it). Preset definitions
(`preset_harness_definitions`, `presets.rs:177-193`) are a bare `.map`
over
`PRESET_HARNESSES` with **no collision check** — exhaustive call-site
enumeration at `60007fda4` finds four production `check_id_collision`
sites,
none on the preset path. That leg holds only because `goose` is not in
the
preset table today (intersection of TIER1 and preset ids is empty) —
executed, not just read: adding a preset with `id: "goose"`,
`args: ["--poisoned"]` and warming via the normal preset-only path
(`warm_harness_registry_from_dir(None)`, no custom dir, no direct
writer)
flips the fixture's emitted `launch.args` from `["acp"]` to
`["--poisoned"]`
at `60007fda4`, command/env/policy_env unchanged. So: no test in the
suite
can put a `goose` entry in the registry
via the custom path, and no preset currently carries one, so no
interleaving
can perturb this fixture — containment with one checked leg and one
coincidental one. A future fixture built on a **non-builtin** runtime id
has
no containment at all — it would be order-dependent against whatever
registry-writing test ran last and must take the lock.

*Late instance, found while reviewing the mode guard.* The guard
exact-matches
`respond_to` untrimmed and case-sensitively, which is only correct if
clap's
`ValueEnum` derive is case-sensitive. `config.rs` gives two answers: the
derive
at `:448-453` carries no `ignore_case`, while the crate's own tests call
`RespondTo::from_str(s, true)` — `ignore_case = true`. Reading the
source
supports either. Measured on the built binary instead: `owner-only`
starts,
`OWNER-ONLY` / `Owner-Only` / `ALLOWLIST` / `NOBODY` all exit rc=2
`invalid
value`. Case-sensitive at the CLI, so the guard is right — and right for
a
reason the source does not state. The `from_str(_, true)` tests exercise
a
different surface and are not evidence about the CLI.

*Corollary, and the sharper half.* When a test helper **reimplements**
production instead of calling it, the helper is a fork — and a fork can
be
right while production is wrong, or wrong in the same way, and the suite
reports green either way. Both `BUZZ_ACP_ALLOWED_*` gates are forked
like this:
production compares **strings** while the helpers compare **post-parse
enums**
(`config.rs:2623`) or re-derive the split
(`buzz-cli/.../channels.rs:1296`).
Production and the helper each carry their *own* copy of the empty-entry
filter
(`:1025` and `:1300`), so fixing one says nothing about the other.
Measured on
`buzz-cli`, restoring byte-exact between runs:

| tree | result |
|---|---|
| baseline | 274 passed |
| drop the empty-filter in **production** only (the real fix) | **274
passed** — no signal |
| drop it in the **test helper** only | **273 passed, 1 failed**
(`channels.rs:1338`) |

Two independent defects, stacked, and worse together than either alone:
production can be fixed with no test ever noticing, *and* the helper
cannot be
corrected without a false alarm demanding the bug back. The root cause
is one
bit of type information — `check_allowed_channel_add_policy(allowed_raw:
&str,
..)` cannot represent "unset", while production reads `env::var(..) ->
Result`,
where unset and `""` are different states. A helper whose parameter type
can't
represent all of production's input states isn't testing production's
states —
it's testing a subset it silently chose. Same family as the
struct-literal
descriptor and the fixture drift: the test and the thing it tests
agreeing with
each other, rather than the test measuring the thing. Neither defect is
in this
PR's diff (`git diff --name-only 28ae6cd21 <head> -- crates/buzz-cli` is
empty); both are now filed as NIP-34 issues on this repo: the fail-open
+
fork-helper defect at issue event `0524a4113f2d97fd…` and the respond-to
self-lock at `e32837498969b5e7…` (filed 2026-08-02 after Quinn measured
that
no prior filing existed — zero hits on GitHub `block/buzz` open *or*
closed
and zero on the relay's kind:1621 issues, against working positive
controls). The prescription was itself
mutation-tested before being written down: repairing the fork's
signature
(`Option<&str>` + assertion → `None`) still let the reintroduced
production
bug ship 274-green — an expressive fork is still a fork; it never
executes
production. So the `buzz-cli` fix has **three parts and one explicit
keep**:
drop the production filter; **delete** the helper and point its tests at
the
real `cmd_set_add_policy` (which self-discriminates by error variant —
`Usage` = refused, `Network(BadScheme)` = passed the gate — no relay
needed);
serialize the env-var tests behind one
**`tokio::sync::Mutex::const_new`**
lock taken with `.lock().await`, including the pre-existing `:1362`
integration test (the fork was silently buying test isolation — without
the
lock, parallel runs flake nondeterministically; a `std::sync::Mutex`
held
across `.await` trips `clippy::await_holding_lock` under `-D warnings`);
and
**keep** the then-dead `!allowed.is_empty()` clause with a comment
saying
why. It is unreachable-false (`split(',')` never yields an empty vec),
but it
is the only thing that keeps the reintroduced production bug detectable
—
mutation-tested: on a tree that deletes the clause, reintroducing the
empty-filter bug survives 275/0, because `""`/`","`/`" "` refuse either
way
and the filter goes semantically inert. Dead code can be load-bearing
for
tests: "provably unreachable" is an argument about behavior, never about
coverage. When a helper forks production, the fix has to delete the
fork:
any change that leaves two implementations standing can only ever be
verified against the one the tests call. *Final shape:* the keep and the
broad lock are both artifacts of the fork surviving in some form. The
extraction variant (Dawn, mutation-tested at `60007fda4`) removes the
tension: extract one `check_channel_add_policy_allowed(Option<&str>,
&str)`
that **production calls**, with the `Option` placed at the env boundary
where the `Result<String, VarError>` bit actually lives. 5/6 mutants
killed; the empty-filter survivor is proven **equivalent** (exhaustive
6174-pair check, 0 divergences, with a diverging negative control;
independently re-derived by a second generator — different tokens and
shape — 0 divergences on admitted policies, 500 on a non-admitted
control),
not a coverage hole — on a one-implementation tree there is no fork left
to
witness, so no dead clause needs keeping. One scope line on that
equivalence: it is **caller-conditional**, a property of the only
current
caller, not of the gate function — `cmd_set_add_policy`'s own match at
`:1027-1034` admits only three policies before the gate runs; a second
caller reaching the gate with arbitrary strings resurrects m1 as a real
hole. The lock does not disappear, it
narrows (Dawn's own correction, caught by Mari): lock exactly the tests
that mutate the process env — three-plus-one on a fork tree, two on the
extraction tree — behind one `tokio::sync::Mutex`, and the lock is part
of
the assertion, not hygiene: with it deleted, the gate test fails 8/8
runs
deterministically by receiving `Network(BadScheme)` where it expects
`Usage` — the unset test's `remove_var` clobbers the other's `set_var`,
and
**the gate test passes straight through the gate**, a false negative on
the
exact authz assertion the test exists to make. State it as an outcome:
these two tests must not observe each other's env writes. 276/0 stable
across 5 parallel runs, clippy `-D warnings` clean; independently
verified
(patch applied to a second worktree: result blob `d67e584be` matches the
patch index, full mutant matrix reproduces row for row). One new row no
earlier
prescription covered: collapsing unset into `Some("")` fails **closed**
—
an unconfigured deployment refuses every policy — killed by the unset
test.
Patch: `OUTBOX/BUZZ_CLI_ADD_POLICY_GATE_EXTRACT_FIX.patch`. The filed
issue
(`0524a411…`) carries the fork-shape prescription; whoever picks it up
should prefer the extraction shape, drop the dead-clause keep with it,
and
keep part 3 outcome-shaped: serialize whichever tests mutate the env.

## Verification (final HEAD `60007fda4`)
- Full touched-package suites at each integration merge (log in plan
file).
  At candidate parent `00e5b5fe9`: buzz-backend-kubernetes 154,
buzz-acp 673, desktop tauri 2100+3, pnpm 3908, workspace clippy/fmt/tsc
all clean. The only delta to `60007fda4` is one character in
`scripts/test-k8s-sprig-image-live.sh` (heredoc escape so the readlink
probe evaluates pod-side, not host-side at render); `crates/` tree hash
is byte-identical at both SHAs, so the Rust receipts attach by tree
  identity. buzz-backend-kubernetes suite re-run in-shell at
  `HEAD == 60007fda4`: 154 passed.
- Adversarial one-HEAD gate (Sami): guard matrix 12/12, predicate
mutants
  7/7, doomed-invocation finding closed end-to-end; tree-hash carry to
  `60007fda4` confirmed (crates/buzz-backend-kubernetes blob unchanged).
- Live-local pass per TESTING.md + skill-buzz-testing (Perci, at
`60007fda4`): explicit `docker-desktop` context, digest-qualified image
  imported into node containerd `k8s.io` namespace, pull policy `Never`;
pod printed `DIGEST_ABI_OK`, `resolved_spec` and `image_id` both the
exact requested digest, script exit 0. Dedicated per-run namespace,
ownership labels on every object, scoped cleanup verified empty after.
- Implementation review (Wren) at `60007fda4`: 9.6 minimalness /
  9.4 elegance / 9.3 correctness, no blocker.
- `origin/eva/k8s-backend` == `60007fda4` (ls-remote verified; SHA
  identity is byte identity).

28ae6cd217 docs: formal spec for remote agents and their management (#3748)
## What

A formal specification for remote agents and their management —
`docs/remote-agents.md` — in the style of
`docs/git-on-object-storage.md`: stated system model, named invariants,
explicit trust boundaries, provider conformance checklist, and an
implementation-correspondence table.

Requested by Tyler in the buzz-remote-agents design thread; co-designed
with Dawn and Wren (review pending).

## Structure

- **System model** — five principals (Desktop / Provider / Substrate /
Agent / Relay) and the design axiom **M1: no management channel** —
everything the desktop knows about a live remote agent flows through the
relay.
- **Five invariants** with enforcement mechanism and stated boundary:
- I1 identity fail-closed, I2 no secrets in configuration, I3
presence-is-status, I4 at-most-one-live-instance, I5 bounded lifetime.
- **Provider protocol** — discovery, `info`/`deploy` wire contract,
untrusted-output rules, the reserved-key rule, and the **deploy state
machine** (Running → no-op).
- **Auto-stop** — `--exit-after-inactivity` /
`BUZZ_ACP_EXIT_AFTER_INACTIVITY`, default off, definition of "inactive",
and why it must not share a name with the three existing timeout
concepts.
- **The Kubernetes binding** — `buzz-backend-kubernetes`:
kubeconfig-only auth, random-default namespace via schema `default`, the
sprig image, pod shape (bare Pod, `terminationGracePeriodSeconds: 60`,
32-hex label / full-pubkey annotation), secrets, GC, config budget.
- **Known defects** at `c1bca1b56` (Windows `.exe` id pollution;
provider env inheritance vs kubeconfig exec plugins).
- **Open decisions A–E** marked inline and consolidated, awaiting owner
ruling.

## Notes for review

Docs-only. Every code claim was verified against the tree
(correspondence table maps each spec concept to its file/function). The
spec deliberately documents two desktop bugs as Known Defects rather
than fixing them here — fixes are follow-up PRs.

cb9701cd30 feat(relay): accept kind:30621 multi-repo projects at ingest (#3171)
Buzz renders one card per `kind:30617`, so a project spanning several
repositories has no representation.
[NIP-MP](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/3163) defines `kind:30621`
as an addressable container holding a group's name, description, channel
binding, and member coordinates. This adds the kind to `buzz-core` and
its structural validation to the relay ingest path.

## Event shape

```json
{
  "kind": 30621,
  "tags": [
    ["d", "platform"],
    ["name", "Platform"],
    ["description", "Relay, desktop, and mobile."],
    ["a", "30617:<owner-a-hex>:buzz"],
    ["a", "30617:<owner-b-hex>:buzz-infra"],
    ["buzz-channel", "<channel-uuid>"],
    ["buzz-visibility", "listed"]
  ]
}
```

## Validation at ingest

| Rule | Behavior |
|------|----------|
| `d` tag | exactly one, non-empty (length already bounded by the
generic `D_TAG_MAX_LEN` check) |
| member `a` tag arity | exactly 2 or 3 elements per NIP-01's `a` tag
grammar; a 4th element has no defined meaning and is rejected |
| member `a` tag coordinate | must parse as
`30617:<lowercase-64-hex-owner>:<non-empty-d>` |
| duplicate members | rejected on exact string match of the canonical
coordinate |
| member cap | 64, counted over raw `a` tags |
| metadata cardinality | at most one each of `name`, `description`,
`buzz-channel`, `buzz-visibility` |
| metadata length | `name` ≤ 256 bytes, `description` ≤ 2048 bytes,
`buzz-channel` ≤ 256 bytes, `buzz-visibility` ≤ 256 bytes |
| zero members | valid |
| unknown tags | ignored |

Rejection order is normative so a client can predict which rule fires:
`d`-cardinality → `d`-empty → member-cap → member-arity → coordinate
parse → member-duplicate → metadata cardinality → metadata length.

## Design notes

**No membership authorization.** Members are `a` tags, so one project
may name repositories owned by different pubkeys — the entire point of
the kind. That is safe because membership grants nothing: push policy
reads a repository's own `kind:30617` (`api/git/policy.rs`) and never a
project. `buzz-channel` is a metadata reference, not a routing
directive, so projects are classified global-only.

**Owner-only editing is free.** NIP-33 addressing keys replacement on
`(pubkey, kind, d)`, so one signer can never overwrite another's
project. No relay-side permission check exists or is needed, and
`test_project_same_d_under_two_authors_are_independent` pins it.

**Duplicates are rejected, not deduped.** A relay cannot rewrite tags
inside a signed event without invalidating its id and signature, so the
alternative to rejection is a stored duplicate-member head that every
consumer must apply a first-wins rule to.

**The cap is checked before the duplicate set is built.** Counting raw
`a` tags rather than distinct coordinates means an event naming one
coordinate thousands of times is refused on count, instead of being
bounded only by the relay frame limit.

**No side-effect handler.** Generic NIP-33 replacement and generic
NIP-09 coordinate soft-delete already cover replacement and deletion;
`kind:30621` needs no entry in `is_side_effect_kind`.

## Generic NIP-09 fix carried along

`soft_delete_by_coordinate` (`crates/buzz-db/src/event.rs`) previously
deleted the live coordinate head regardless of the tombstone's own
`created_at`, so a delayed or replayed `a`-tag deletion signed between
two versions destroyed the newer replacement. NIP-09 scopes an `a`-tag
deletion to versions at or before the deletion request, so the `UPDATE`
now carries `created_at <= $5` and `handle_a_tag_deletion` threads the
deletion event's `created_at` through.

The bug predates `kind:30621` and affected every
parameterized-replaceable kind on the generic path — `kind:30617`
repository announcements included — so the fix lands there rather than
as a project special case. `events.created_at` is immutable per row, so
the predicate guarantees a tombstone can never erase a version newer
than itself; the UPDATE re-evaluates its WHERE clause after any lock
wait. Under READ COMMITTED, a same-coordinate replacement racing the
deletion may cause the deletion to evaluate before the new head lands,
returning `Ok(false)` — but that outcome is state-identical to the
deletion having arrived first, a valid Nostr ordering Nostr never fixes.
The return value feeds only a debug log. No coordinate-level lock is
needed.

## Coverage

32 unit tests in `crates/buzz-relay/src/handlers/ingest.rs` pin the
envelope contract (accept: minimal, cross-owner, zero-member, same repo
`d` under two owners, colon-bearing repo `d`, cap boundary, unknown
tags, relay hint on member `a` tag, max-length metadata, stranger-owned
member, uninterpreted metadata values, non-empty content; reject: every
rule above plus valueless `d`/`a` tags). A fixture-driven test
(`project_envelope_validates_all_shared_fixtures`) runs every case in
the shared `NIP-MP.fixtures.json` oracle (11 accept + 20 reject) against
`validate_project_envelope`, so any future change that breaks a case
turns the test suite red.

6 `#[ignore]`d e2e tests in
`crates/buzz-test-client/tests/e2e_project.rs` cover behavior that only
exists past storage — coordinate round-trip, newer-wins replacement, two
authors sharing a `d`, an `a`-tag tombstone that removes the project
while leaving referenced `kind:30617`s intact, and a tombstone
timestamped between V1 and V2 that must leave V2 live. The negative e2e
case asserts on the rejection message so a refusal for an unrelated
reason cannot satisfy it; that is what proves the validator is reachable
from the live write path rather than merely correct in isolation. The
new e2e binary is wired into the Relay E2E job.

The timestamp predicate is additionally pinned at the storage layer by
`coordinate_delete_spares_head_newer_than_the_deletion` in
`crates/buzz-db/src/lib.rs`, which asserts both directions: a stale
tombstone deletes nothing and leaves the newer head readable, and a
tombstone at the head's own timestamp still deletes it. This test is
wired into the Backend Integration job.

209536ade6 docs(nips): add single-coordinate manual-unread override layer and verification model to NIP-RS (#2864)
## Summary

Amends `docs/nips/NIP-RS.md` with the manual mark-as-unread override
layer and includes `docs/formal/nip-rs-unread/`, the bounded exhaustive
verification model that preceded and informed the spec.

All `ov_*` override state lives in exactly one coordinate per
installation. That single constraint is what makes the rest of the
amendment small: override state never moves between coordinates, so
there is no slot lifecycle to make crash-safe, and the only durability
obligation is carry-forward on `client_id` rotation.

## Spec changes (`docs/nips/NIP-RS.md`)

- **Non-Goals:** drop the stale line stating mark-as-unread is out of
scope; state the `ov_*` durability exception to the
best-effort/time-horizon model.
- **Reserved Namespace:** `ov_` stem and `esc:` escape marker reserved.
Escape on publish (prepend `esc:` to raw IDs beginning with `ov_` or
`esc:`), unescape on receive (strip exactly one `esc:`). Bijection, with
the pre-amendment backward-compat residual documented as a stated
limitation.
- **Content Validation:** override entries are collected and validated
as a complete logical group *before* any decoding, zero-filling,
merging, or canonicalizing. Only two wire shapes are accepted — a
complete live three-key group, or an `ov_c:`-only tombstone floor. Any
other shape rejects the whole group while retaining the frontier entry;
applying the generic per-entry discard rule first is prohibited.
- **`d` Tag:** `<slot-id>` is exactly 32 lowercase hexadecimal
characters, replacing "a random opaque string" of 1–64 ASCII characters.
The fixed shape lets a relay recognize a read-state coordinate
structurally from the `d` tag alone, without decrypting anything, and
apply per-coordinate protections to it — under the old wording a
conforming client could pick a shape that silently forfeits them.
Recognizable coordinates are also what let a relay replace superseded
versions outright rather than accumulating one retained row per publish,
which keeps the coordinate count a full-state load must enumerate near
one per installation. Every client designates one **primary** coordinate
with a stable `<slot-id>` for the installation's lifetime. All `ov_*`
entries, and the frontier entries of the contexts they belong to, MUST
live in the primary. Additional coordinates remain legal for frontier
volume but MUST NOT carry `ov_*`, which keeps them freely rewritable and
freely deletable.
- **`t` Tag:** described as a discoverability marker rather than a
guarantee of relay-side selectivity. A relay MAY apply tag constraints
after its result cap, and `kind:30078` is shared with unrelated
application data, so clients MUST apply the tag as a correctness filter
locally, MUST NOT infer completeness from a short result, and MUST omit
the tag entirely when performing a full-state load.
- **Fetching / Full-State Load:** clients implementing the override
layer MUST NOT apply a finite `since` filter — an encrypted payload
means a relay filter cannot select for override-bearing events, so any
event-level window can exclude the only coordinate holding a tombstone
floor. Removing `since` is not sufficient: relays MAY cap historical
results, MAY cap below the requested `limit`, and emit
end-of-stored-events after the capped query, so neither EOSE nor a short
page proves completeness. No test against the client's requested `limit`
can detect truncation either: the effective cap belongs to the relay, a
relay MAY cap below what was requested, and an advertised maximum limit
is not necessarily the limit enforced.

A full-state load is therefore enumerated on `{"kinds": [30078],
"authors": [<pubkey>], "limit": <n>}` with **no tag constraint**. A
relay MAY apply tag constraints only after its result cap and withhold
the events that fail them, so under a tag-constrained filter the
delivered count is not the count the cap selected — a delivered page can
be empty while older coordinates still exist below it, and `kind:30078`
is arbitrary application data whose `d` tag namespace is open to every
application that has written under the user's key. Omitting the tag
makes delivery observable; read-state selection moves client-side, where
the validation rules already place it.

Completeness is then established by enumeration on a strictly decreasing
cursor: collect a page, descend on the lowest `created_at` across all
delivered events, exhaust that second with a window pinned to it,
continue below it, and treat only an empty delivery as complete. Every
query carries the same explicit `limit` `n` with `n >= L`. Per-second
exhaustion is discharged by comparing the pinned window's delivery
against the largest delivery the relay has already demonstrated in the
same load, floored at `L = 2` so that the ordinary single-coordinate
installation can reach *complete* at all. The comparison fails safe: an
inconclusive window reports *cannot prove complete* rather than
*complete*, and that verdict is terminal for the load.

Because these are addressable events, a coordinate republished mid-load
moves *above* the descending cursor while its previous version stops
existing, so neither is reachable by any later query. A full-state load
is therefore fenced by a live subscription on the same tag-free filter,
established — defined as receipt of end-of-stored-events — before the
first enumeration query and held unbroken on the same connection for the
load's duration. Fence deliveries are collected like enumerated events
but do not contribute to the cursor or to the demonstrated-delivery
bound. Collection deduplicates coordinates on the full NIP-01
addressable ordering — greatest `created_at`, lowest event id on ties —
because an equal-timestamp replacement is legal and is the version the
relay retains. A lapsed or reconnected fence makes the load potentially
incomplete, and a client MUST NOT publish to its own coordinates during
its own load.

Five relay behaviours the *complete* verdict rests on are stated as
normative conformance preconditions rather than assumptions, because
none is verifiable from the responses a client receives: newest-first
prefix delivery with lowest-id tie-breaking (what NIP-01 already
specifies for `limit`), a non-decreasing effective cap within a load,
the floor `L`, push delivery on an open subscription, and a delivery
barrier ordering accepted matching events ahead of a query's
end-of-stored-events on the same connection. Conditioning *complete* on
positive proof of these instead would withdraw the override layer from
every client rather than from the non-conforming relays. A client MUST
NOT load against a relay it has evidence violates them, and MUST treat
any such load as potentially incomplete.

A load that is potentially incomplete, or that failed on any relay the
client publishes to, MUST NOT authorize canonical compaction, publishing
a canonicalized override blob, deleting or abandoning a coordinate, or
reporting a mark-read as successful; the client falls back to local
state.
- **Client-ID Rotation / Orphaned Blob Deletion:** rotation is the only
event that changes an override-bearing coordinate. Before deleting or
abandoning its previous primary, a client MUST republish the
componentwise `max()` of every register that primary holds — every
tombstone ceiling included — under its new primary, and MUST confirm
acceptance on **every relay** from which the old primary will be deleted
or allowed to lapse. Acceptance on one relay does not authorize deletion
on another. Frontier-only orphans are deletable unconditionally; an
unknown same-`client_id` coordinate is treated as a live carrier until
merged.
- **Live Subscription and Convergence:** the re-publish trigger and its
suppression are evaluated on canonicalized state, so a retained live
peer blob the client has already tombstoned cannot trigger an identical
write on every replay.
- **Manual-Unread Override Layer** (new section):
- **Wire encoding:** `ov_s:<ctx>`, `ov_c:<ctx>`, `ov_b:<ctx>` as uint32
siblings in the existing `contexts` map.
- **Merge rule:** componentwise `max()` per counter — no new wire merge
logic.
- **Liveness predicate:** `S > 0 AND F <= B AND S > C`, transcribed from
`model.py::override_set_b`.
- **Actions:** mark-unread bumps S and captures the effective frontier
as B; mark-read bumps C; a natural frontier advance past B deactivates a
stale set with no counter update. Every action requires a complete
full-state load. At the uint32 ceiling, wrapping and resetting are
prohibited: mark-unread is refused, and mark-read completes only if the
resulting state has `override_active == false` — otherwise it fails
visibly rather than reporting success over a still-live override.
- **Tombstone floor:** a dead ever-active register compacts to `RegB(0,
max(S,C), 0)` — a single `ov_c:` key. A virgin register is omitted
entirely. This blocks counter reuse and the resulting resurrection.
- **Mandatory canonical publication:** a protocol requirement, not an
optimization. Publishing raw dead registers lets two independently-dead
registers from different devices produce a live join.
- **Override group co-location rule:** a context's frontier entry and
all its `ov_*` siblings MUST travel in the same event, and that event
MUST be the primary coordinate. An override-bearing context therefore
has exactly one legal destination for its whole group; only
frontier-only groups may be distributed across additional coordinates.
Grouping is per logical context, never per key.
- **Unescape-before-group rule:** the frontier wire key MUST be
unescaped to its raw logical context ID before use as group identity.
Equal normative weight to atomic grouping.
- **Tie policy:** clear-wins is MUST. The tie verdict is not encoded on
the wire, so a selectable policy makes two conforming clients diverge
permanently on both the unread verdict and the canonical wire form.
- **Override State Durability:** `ov_*` entries are exempt from age
pruning and budget eviction permanently, and durability is defined over
retrievable logical state — the containing event must stay reachable and
the load must establish completeness, not merely retain keys. There is
no safe finite GC horizon.
- **Bounds and budget:** byte/key analysis at both small-counter and
uint32-maximum values. Confining `ov_*` to one blob makes its plaintext
budget a hard lifetime ceiling on ever-overridden contexts — roughly 600
tombstones at the worst-case ~54 bytes against 32 KiB, ~730 at the
common ~45 bytes, ~199 simultaneously live overrides at ~164 bytes. At
the ceiling a client MUST refuse mark-unread and MUST NOT split override
state, drop floors, or publish a truncated override set. Same policy
shape as counter exhaustion: visible failure, never silent degradation.
- **Verification artifact:** `docs/formal/nip-rs-unread/`. The model is
a broader predecessor of this NIP: its `split_blob_into_slots` permits
override groups in any slot, so verified atomicity covers every
arrangement this NIP allows, but the converse does not follow. The model
does not verify the single-primary rule, the completeness procedure, the
relay conformance requirements or the mutation fence, or carry-forward;
malformed-group wire validation is likewise normative but outside
verified scope.

- **Abstract / Non-Goals / Backwards Compatibility:** the absolute "no
relay-side logic" and "no relay behavior changes" claims are narrowed to
what remains true — no new event kind, no new wire message, no
relay-stored read-state logic — with the override layer's relay
conformance contract named as the exception. Frontier sync and clients
that skip the override layer are unaffected on any relay.

## Verification model (`docs/formal/nip-rs-unread/`)

Four Python files constituting a bounded exhaustive verification model
for the override layer's register algebra.

**What it does:** constructs a toy universe — 2–3 devices, 2 channels,
every action that can happen (mark-unread, mark-read, late/duplicate
syncs, app reinstall, storage compaction) — and brute-forces every
reachable ordering (14,258 BFS states; 672-point deep-history parameter
cube; 9-mutant harness over ~45,000 merge pairs). After each world-state
it asks: did all devices converge? Did any unread flag get resurrected
after being cleared, or vanish while live?

**What it found and fixed:**

1. **Killed candidate A.** The model produced a concrete kill sequence:
an old client that doesn't know about the new field rewrites its
read-state blob and silently erases unread flags. That witness is why
the spec uses candidate B (two counters that only count up, plus a
snapshot) instead.
2. **Candidate B passes everything.** All delivery orders converge; the
frontier high-water mark never regresses; duplicated/replayed syncs are
harmless; old clients can't destroy it; compaction never resurrects a
dead unread or drops a live one, including
cleanup-followed-by-weeks-late-stale-sync and
tombstone-landing-on-unrelated-live-state corner cases.
3. **Caught a second real bug late.** Two devices each publishing "this
unread is cleared" could, on merge, reactivate it. The fix (canonicalize
before publishing) is a mandatory rule in the spec; the model re-checks
it across ~45,000 merge pairs.

**Scope and caveats:** bounded to 2–3 devices and 2 channels. Can't
prove the infinite case. `NOTE.md` documents the exact verification
scope and the gap between the model's `split_blob_into_slots` generality
and the single-primary rule the spec adds on top.

**Why it's in the repo:** the spec asserts "verified by bounded
exhaustive model checking." Keeping the artifact in-repo means anyone
who later amends the merge/compaction rules can `python3 exhaustive.py
&& python3 mutation.py` (deterministic, exit 0) and confirm the
guarantees hold. Without it the spec claims a proof nobody can check.

## Diff scope

`docs/nips/NIP-RS.md` — spec amendment, zero product code.

`docs/formal/nip-rs-unread/{NOTE.md,model.py,exhaustive.py,mutation.py}`
— bounded exhaustive verification model, zero product code.
`.gitignore` — `__pycache__/` and `*.pyc` entries for the model
directory.

Tyler
081f805d5e feat(agent): optional reply guard reminds a silent turn to publish (#3763)
## Why

A Buzz agent's assistant text and reasoning are never shown to anyone —
only what it posts through the CLI. A turn that runs fifteen tool calls
and never publishes is a silent failure: the requester waits on a result
that was produced and thrown away.

This adds an optional reminder at the end-of-turn gate, off by default.

Tyler asked for it in buzz-mesh; plan iterated to **9.5/10 with @Wren**
(Minimalness 9.7, Elegance 9.5, Correctness 9.3).

## What

`BUZZ_AGENT_REQUIRE_REPLY=1` (default off, per-agent opt-in). A turn
about to end with no recognized attempt to post gets a reminder and is
rerolled. **At most two, then the turn ends regardless** — the guard
catches accidental omission, it does not compel speech. The reminder
text explicitly licenses silence so it cannot fight the base prompt's
"silence is usually correct."

**This is not a new MCP hook.** `RunCtx::run` *is* the turn, so the two
per-turn locals need no plumbing, and every tool call already passes
through it with arguments visible. The objection is appended at the
existing `_Stop` gate and rides `push_hook_outputs_as_tool_results`, so
the model receives it as a lower-trust tool result with `{hook, server,
text}` attribution. No new trust path, no new lifecycle event, no
dev-mcp or CLI protocol change.

Earlier revisions of this plan needed four crates (a `_UserPromptSubmit`
hook, a marker file, a `buzz-cli` change, dev-mcp state). Tyler pointed
out the agent already knows both facts; that deleted all of it. Net
runtime change is ~35 lines in `agent.rs` + ~4 in `config.rs`.

### Recognition contract

A registered non-hook tool whose qualified name ends in `__shell`, whose
`command` argument contains `messages send` or `reactions add`.

- **The `__` separator is exact, not approximate.** Given `has()` +
`!is_hook()`, `ends_with("__shell")` is *provably equivalent* to a bare
name of `shell`: registration forbids `__` in server and bare names
(`mcp.rs:227,268`) and qnames are `{server}__{bare}`, so a trailing
`__shell` could only straddle the separator if the bare name began with
`_` — which `is_hook` excludes. Without the separator, `powershell` and
`noshell` would match.
- **Reads the structured `command` field**, not serialized arguments, so
a `description` that quotes a send cannot disarm the guard, and a
non-string `command` is rejected rather than coerced.
- **Detects an attempt, not a successful publish.** A failed send
already returns non-zero exit and error JSON — louder than this
reminder. The variable is named `buzz_reply_call_seen` so the code can't
pretend otherwise.
- **Checked after the per-turn tool-call cap**, since a discarded call
never ran.
- `messages send` also covers `messages send-diff`. Reactions count
because the base prompt directs agents to react rather than post a bare
acknowledgement.

**Known limits, both deliberate and documented:** a command assembled at
runtime (`$CMD`) or hidden in a wrapper script is missed; text that
merely quotes a send (`echo "buzz messages send"`) matches. Missing a
real post is the expensive direction and substring matching is the
forgiving one there. Neither edge is pinned by a test, so the matcher
stays free to improve.

### Budget

Reminders share `BUZZ_AGENT_STOP_MAX_REJECTIONS`, the existing outer cap
on every end-turn objection. Default 3 fits both; at 1 only one fits; at
0 the guard is off with the hooks. A round carrying both a hook
objection and a reminder costs one rejection and delivers both texts. An
independent budget would either violate that bound or need a second
arbitration rule.

## Prior art

- **#3467** (closed) built the same detector one layer up in `buzz-acp`
for a different remedy. None of its symbols are on main — this borrows
its permission to be coarse, but reads structured data that ACP didn't
have.
- **#3648** (open) detects turns with *no output at all*; a turn with
fifteen tool calls and no post counts as output there, so it does not
cover this case.
- **#3741** (merged) is mesh-only.

## Testing

**14 new tests.** 4 unit tests on the matcher; 10 integration tests
through the ACP wire harness: off by default, `=0` still off, opted-in
silent → exactly 2 reminders then `end_turn`, registered `fake__shell`
send → 0 reminders, hallucinated `fake__shell` → still reminded, publish
call truncated past the 64-call cap → still reminded, budget 1 → 1
reminder, budget 0 → off, combined `_Stop` hook objection + reminder →
one round both texts and after 2 reminders the hook objection continues
alone, unparseable `=true` → startup error naming the key.

**10 mutation checks, each breaking a specific named test** — neutralize
the nag cap, stop sharing the budget, neutralize `buzz_reply_call_seen`,
drop `has`/`is_hook`, ignore the flag, drop the `__`, drop `reactions
add`, read serialized args, move detection before truncation.

`tests/bin/fake_mcp.rs` gains `FAKE_MCP_SHELL_TOOL=1`: it previously
exposed no tool with a bare name of `shell`, so the satisfied-guard path
was untestable.

Full `cargo test -p buzz-agent` green at 9e0ae1f04; clippy `-D warnings`
and `cargo fmt --check` clean.

**Unrelated flake found:**
`cancelled_turn_with_usage_emits_notification_before_response`
(`tests/fake_llm.rs`) is timing-sensitive. Under 10 loaded cores it
fails **2/20 on this branch and 1/20 at unmodified
`origin/main@02be413b8`** — pre-existing, not caused by this change
(which is inert without the env var). Flagging so it isn't misattributed
to the next PR that's open when CI hits it.

## Docs

`crates/buzz-agent/README.md` is the primary home (env var, recognition
contract, limits, budget interaction). `docs/MCP_DRIVEN_HOOKS.md` gets a
short cross-reference explaining this is *not* a hook — otherwise
readers hunt for a `_ReplyGuard` tool that doesn't exist.

114d40d9d3 feat(relay): gate kind 30178 team-catalog reads behind the shared tag (#3358)
Team catalog projections (`kind:30178`) embed every member's system
prompt, so they need the same read gate personas already have: only the
author sees an unshared event. The gate was hardcoded to `kind:30175` at
six read surfaces plus the SQL pushdown, so rather than adding a second
special case it becomes kind-generic over `SHARED_GATED_KINDS = {30175,
30178}`.

## Kind 30178

New parameterized-replaceable kind, addressed by `(pubkey_o, 30178,
team_id)`. It embeds sanitized member projections instead of referencing
`kind:30175` heads — a foreign reader of a shared team could not
otherwise hydrate members whose own persona events are unshared or, for
built-ins, absent entirely. `kind:30176`'s wire body is untouched, so
device sync keeps its contract.

## Kind-generic shared gate

`buzz_core::kind` replaces `is_persona_shared_kind` /
`is_unshared_persona_event` / `persona_event_is_shared` with
`SHARED_GATED_KINDS` and the kind-agnostic `is_shared_gated_kind` /
`is_unshared_gated_event` / `event_is_shared`. Every read surface
consults the set:

| Surface | File |
|---|---|
| REQ historical delivery + `ids` lookup |
`crates/buzz-relay/src/handlers/req.rs` |
| Live fan-out | `crates/buzz-relay/src/handlers/event.rs` |
| COUNT fallback | `crates/buzz-relay/src/handlers/count.rs` |
| NIP-98 HTTP `/query`, `/count`, `/search` |
`crates/buzz-relay/src/api/bridge.rs` |
| Pre-`LIMIT` SQL pushdown | `crates/buzz-db/src/event.rs` |

The SQL clause generalizes from `kind != 30175` to `kind NOT IN (...)`
bound from `SHARED_GATED_KINDS`, still applied before `ORDER BY … LIMIT`
so a page of newer private events cannot starve an older shared one off
the candidate set. `EventQuery::persona_reader` is renamed
`shared_gated_reader` and `needs_persona_filtering` to
`needs_shared_gate_filtering` to match.

Because the `buzz-core` rename has consumers outside the relay, the four
desktop call sites of `persona_event_is_shared` travel with it:
`desktop/src-tauri/src/commands/personas/pending.rs`,
`desktop/src-tauri/src/event_sync.rs`, and two in
`desktop/src-tauri/src/managed_agents/persona_events.rs`. Each call is
unchanged apart from the name — the persona `shared` projection behaves
exactly as before.

## Ingest validation

`validate_persona_envelope` splits into two reusable pieces —
`validate_shared_tag` (exactly-two-element `["shared","true"]`, at most
one occurrence) and `single_bounded_d_tag` (exactly one `d` tag,
non-empty, `<=64` chars, no ASCII control characters or whitespace).
`validate_team_catalog_envelope` composes both; personas additionally
keep the slug grammar `^[a-z0-9][a-z0-9_-]{0,63}$`.

`kind:30178` deliberately does **not** get the slug grammar. Team ids
are UUIDs or built-in identifiers such as `builtin-team:welcome`, and
the colon is not slug-legal; rewriting ids to fit would break NIP-33
addressing against the team's own `kind:30176` head. The non-empty and
exactly-one checks are load-bearing regardless — without them generic
NIP-33 storage maps a missing `d` onto `(pubkey_o, 30178, "")` and every
team overwrites its predecessor.

The exact two-element `shared` shape is enforced because the SQL
visibility clause is JSONB containment (`tags @>
'[["shared","true"]]'`), which would match a three-element superset such
as `["shared","true","extra"]`.

`kind:30178` is also added to the `Scope::UsersWrite` allowlist and to
`is_global_only_kind`, so a stray `h` tag cannot channel-scope an
owner-authored definition.

## Deferred

`kind:30176` is deliberately not a gate member. Its writers never emit
`shared`, so catalog opt-in semantics do not describe it — it needs
owner-private reads driven by an authenticated principal set, tracked as
a separate follow-up.

## Tests

- 19 new `ingest.rs` unit tests covering the 30178 envelope (UUID and
colon `d` tags, 64-char boundary, non-ASCII bound,
empty/valueless/duplicate/missing `d`, embedded newline, `shared`
false/three-element/duplicate, scope and global-only membership).
- Persona regressions for the valueless `["d"]` shapes, since the
`d`-tag helper is shared by both validators.
- Existing `kind.rs` gate tests generalized and extended to assert the
gate applies to 30178 as it does to 30175.
- New `crates/buzz-test-client/tests/e2e_team_catalog.rs`: 9 WS-level
tests over a live relay covering author reads of unshared heads, foreign
omission from REQ, `ids`-lookup denial, COUNT existence-leak, share and
unshare transitions, and the mixed-kind filter case.
- `.github/workflows/ci.yml` adds `--test e2e_team_catalog` to the Relay
E2E job so the new suite runs.

## Docs

`docs/nips/NIP-AP.md` gains a "Team catalog projection: kind:30178"
section and an "Ingest validation: kind:30178" subsection, records the
gate as kind-generic, documents 30178 deletion vs. unshare semantics,
and adds a security note that sharing a team exposes every member's
instructions even when that member's own `kind:30175` head is unshared.

33bf7caa6e docs(nips): specify kind:30621 multi-repo projects (NIP-MP) (#3163)
Buzz renders one card per `kind:30617`, so a project spanning several
repositories has no representation — the relay, desktop app, and mobile
app look like three unrelated things. This adds the spec for the
container event that fixes that, plus the two shared fixture files that
make it machine-checkable. Docs only; no code changes.

Membership cannot live in the repository announcements themselves. A
project spanning Alice's and Bob's repositories would need *both* of
them to publish a tag naming the group, and Alice cannot sign for Bob's
key. A project's own name, description, and channel binding likewise
have no single writer when scattered across per-repository tags, and no
deletion story. That is why multi-repo grouping is the one forge concept
in Buzz that warrants a custom kind.

## `docs/nips/NIP-MP.md`

`kind:30621`, an addressable event per NIP-01, addressed by `(pubkey,
30621, d)`. Members are `a` tags holding canonical
`30617:<lowercase-64-hex-owner>:<repo-d>` coordinates, following
NIP-01's 2-or-3-element grammar where the optional third element is a
relay hint clients MAY use and whose content ingest does not parse.
Metadata is `name`, `description`, `buzz-channel`, `buzz-visibility`.

- **Authority stops at the container.** The signer can replace their own
project and nothing else — no edit, delete, push, or admin over any
member. Deletion additionally admits the signer's registered NIP-OA
owner, because `validate_standard_deletion_event`
(`crates/buzz-relay/src/handlers/side_effects.rs`) grants that
platform-wide so a human can clean up events published by an agent they
own; the spec documents it as a Buzz extension to NIP-09 rather than
carving `kind:30621` out of it. `buzz-channel` on a project is metadata
only; git push policy reads the repository's own `kind:30617`
(`crates/buzz-relay/src/api/git/policy.rs`) and a project never becomes
an input to it.
- **Ingest validation contract**, with named rules the fixtures
reference: `d-cardinality`, `d-empty`, `member-cap` (64, counting every
`a` tag), `member-tag-arity`, `member-coordinate-malformed`,
`member-duplicate`, `metadata-cardinality`, `metadata-length`. Arity is
its own rule rather than part of coordinate parsing, because a
four-element member tag can carry a valid coordinate — the tag's shape
is what is wrong, and ignoring elements past the relay hint would admit
unvalidated data no consumer reads. Duplicates are rejected rather than
normalized — a relay cannot rewrite tags inside a signed event without
invalidating its id and signature.
- **Metadata interpretation is normative, not left to the reader.**
Ingest bounds cardinality and length and interprets nothing; clients
resolve absent `name` to the `d` value, any unrecognized
`buzz-visibility` token to `listed` (a typo is not a privacy signal),
and an unresolvable `buzz-channel` to a project rendered without a
channel rather than dropped. `content` carries no meaning: writers
SHOULD emit `""`, and readers and relays MUST ignore any value rather
than reject it.
- **Claim authority.** A project suppresses a member's standalone card
only when it is listing eligible *and* its signer is that repository's
owner or appears in the repository's own `maintainers` tag. Without
this, anyone could publish a project naming your repository and pull it
out of the collection into a container you never consented to. An
unauthorized project still renders, and still renders its members — it
just cannot remove a repository from where its owner expects to find it.
- **Deterministic client fold**, seven steps, with a table of required
cases: exhaustive enumeration (a fixed `limit: 200` makes repository 201
vanish), multiple membership, fallback to a standalone card,
unresolvable members marked unavailable rather than dropped, and local
hide of a container never hiding repositories. On a relay that provides
no exhaustive mode, the conformant behavior is a persistently marked
possibly-incomplete collection — not a violation of the enumeration
requirement.
- **Pagination is specified in two modes**, because exhaustive
enumeration is not universally achievable. Both modes share an explicit
three-condition relay contract: a relay must (1) apply the complete
filter before enforcing any limit, (2) expose the exact effective page
limit it enforces, and (3) saturate pages — return `min(effective limit,
remaining matches)`, so a short page proves all remaining matches were
returned. A relay satisfying any proper subset does not provide the
guarantee, and absent it a client MUST mark the collection possibly
incomplete. On a relay exposing a composite `(created_at, event id)`
keyset cursor — Buzz does on its authenticated HTTP bridge endpoint, via
`until` + `before_id`; the NIP-01 websocket REQ path silently discards
`before_id`, so a websocket client against Buzz is in mode 2 — clients
MUST page by it; within the relay contract the cursor's uniqueness means
no skips or re-reads and a short page is an unambiguous end signal, but
cursor uniqueness alone does not substitute for the relay contract. A
vanilla NIP-01 filter has no id tiebreak, so `until` alone either skips
a second's unread events or never advances; there a client MUST drain
the boundary second explicitly. The spec also adds normative guidance on
query shapes: a client MUST use only query shapes the relay applies
completely before limiting, and where a needed constraint (such as `#a`)
is post-applied, MUST widen to a pushable shape and match the rest
client-side.
- **Kind allocation** recorded with the checks performed: `30621` is
unassigned in the upstream nostr NIPs kind table and has no
nostrbook.dev entry, and it is the one free number between `30620` and
`30622` locally.

## `docs/nips/NIP-MP.fixtures.json`

The ingest contract: 31 cases — 11 accept, 20 reject — as unsigned
templates consumers sign with their own test key. Coverage includes
minimal and full projects, zero members, the 64-member boundary from
both sides, cross-owner and same-`d`-different-owner members,
colon-bearing repository `d` values, relay hints, non-empty `content`,
and every rejection rule. Each of the two 256-byte `buzz-` bounds gets
its own reject case so neither can hide behind the other's rejection,
and duplicate detection is pinned to the coordinate alone by a case
whose two identical coordinates carry different relay hints. A
four-element member tag carrying an otherwise valid coordinate pins
arity separately from coordinate parsing. Every rejection case names the
rules that may fire, so an implementation cannot pass by rejecting a bad
event for an unrelated reason.

## `docs/nips/NIP-MP.fold-fixtures.json`

The fold oracle: 12 cases covering every row of the required-fold-cases
table, including the discriminating case where one authorized and one
unauthorized project list the same repository — an implementation that
requires every listing project to be authorized emits a spurious
implicit card, and one that lets any listing project suppress drops a
card it owes the owner.

Inputs are semantic rather than signed envelopes: a repository or
project is named by its coordinate plus only what the fold reads —
signer, members, `maintainers`, visibility, viewer-hidden, deletion.
Every collection in `expect` is compared as a set, including each
container's `members`, since the fold fixes placement and not order.
Signing would re-test the ingest contract and obscure what is under
test. The fold is where claim authority lives, so without a shared
oracle two clients could each satisfy the prose and still render
different collections from identical heads.

## `VISION_PROJECTS.md`

Line 41's "zero custom kinds" now reads "no custom kind for the repo
itself", with a new "One Project, Many Repos" section recording why the
one exception is warranted. `30621` rows added to the kind and status
tables.

Related: #3171 (the `KIND_PROJECT` constant, relay ingest validation of
this contract, and the inclusive `created_at <= tombstone` bound this
spec's coordinate-deletion rule cites). Independent — either can merge
first.

b18e559ae2 docs: add Linux rendering troubleshooting guide (#3573)
## What

Adds `docs/linux-rendering-troubleshooting.md` — the user-facing
troubleshooting page for Linux rendering failures.

## What's in the doc

**Crash: `colrv1_configure_skpaint` assertion abort (AppImage, Fedora
40+)**

Root cause: the AppImage bundles WebKitGTK compiled against FreeType
2.11.1, but `libfreetype.so.6` is not bundled — WebKit loads the host's
FreeType at runtime. FreeType 2.13.0 added a field to
`FT_ColorStopIterator` (16 → 20 bytes); on hosts with FreeType ≥ 2.13
the struct-layout mismatch corrupts Skia's COLRv1 color-stop arithmetic,
causing the assertion abort. Fix: upgrade to v0.5.2+ (build container
bumped to `ubuntu:24.04` in
[#3602](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/3602)). Includes the glibc
floor table (2.35 → 2.39) and `.deb`/`.rpm` guidance for Ubuntu 22.04 /
Debian 12 users. A manual fontconfig workaround is preserved for users
stuck on older AppImages.

**Blank window / dmabuf renderer (NVIDIA, AppImage)**

Covers the auto-fix shipped in v0.5.1
([#3271](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/3271)) and the
`--safe-rendering` flag for cases where auto-detection misses.

**AMD RDNA4 / transparent window
([#2643](https://github.com/block/buzz/issues/2643))**

Documents the three-variable workaround verified by the reporter
(`GDK_BACKEND=x11`, `WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1`,
`WEBKIT_SKIA_ENABLE_CPU_RENDERING=1`).

Also includes a crash-log capture recipe and issue-filing checklist.

ab3af82871 feat(relay): add author-only-unless-shared read gate for kind 30175 (#2768)
Kind 30175 persona sync events carry plaintext `system_prompt` and
`respond_to_allowlist`. This PR adds **author-only-unless-shared read
semantics**: events without `["shared","true"]` are visible only to the
author; events with that tag are community-readable.

## What changed

### New read class (kind 30175)
Kind 30175 gets per-event gating at every relay read surface. The
`shared` marker is a **tag**, not a content field, so content bytes
(which double as the `source_version` drift basis) are not affected when
toggling share state.

### `event_visible_to_reader` helper (`handlers/req.rs`)
Centralizes the three per-event access predicates —
`is_author_only_event`, `is_unshared_persona_event`,
`reader_authorized_for_event` — into one `pub(crate)` fn callable from
both WS and HTTP adapters. All result-visibility sites now call this
single helper.

### NIP-98 HTTP bridge (`api/bridge.rs`)
- `POST /query` catchall: replaced the two-step author-only +
result-gated checks with `event_visible_to_reader` (now also covers the
persona shared-gate).
- `POST /count`: added `needs_persona_filtering` to the fast-path guard
(forces per-event fallback when filter can match `kind:30175`) and
replaced both fallback loops' individual checks with
`event_visible_to_reader`.
- FTS `/search` bridge helper: replaced `is_author_only_event` with
`event_visible_to_reader` as defense-in-depth (30175 is not in the FTS
allowlist today; comment at site explains the future-proofing intent).

### Ingest validation (`handlers/ingest.rs`)
`validate_persona_envelope` rejects malformed `shared` tags: wrong
value, missing value, duplicates. Accepts exactly `["shared","true"]`
and tag-absent.

### Kind helpers (`buzz-core/src/kind.rs`)
`is_persona_shared_kind`, `is_unshared_persona_event`,
`filter_can_match_persona_shared_kinds`.

### Tests (`e2e_persona.rs`)
8 unit tests in `kind.rs`, 6 in `ingest.rs`, 8 e2e tests total:
- AC-1–6 covering the gated surfaces
- `test_persona_live_fanout_shared_gate`: reworked with explicit
monotonic `created_at` timestamps (t0 < t1 < t2) and per-step head
assertions, eliminating the NIP-33 event-id tie-break race. Also asserts
foreign live subscription receives nothing on shared→unshared
transition.
- `test_persona_ingest_shared_tag_validation`: added `shared=x` and
missing-value wire-level rejection cases.
- `test_persona_mixed_kind_filter_does_not_leak`: publishes a kind-9
event and asserts it IS returned; absence-only assertion no longer
sufficient.
- `test_persona_http_query_cross_author_gate`: NIP-98 `/query`
cross-author gate (authors filter, kindless `ids` — both blocked; shared
`ids` — passes).
- `test_persona_http_count_cross_author_gate`: NIP-98 `/count`
cross-author gate (foreign sees 1/shared, author sees all, wildcard
checked).

### NIP-AP.md
Replaced aspirational "every relay read chokepoint" wording with an
enumerated list of gated surfaces including NIP-98 `/query`, `/count`,
and FTS/search with their enforcement mechanism named. Added
**Non-goal** note for side-band existence oracles
(reaction/report/deletion target resolution).

## Existing tests
All pre-existing `e2e_persona` tests use `{ids:[event_id]}` or
`{authors:[self]}` filters — author self-reads bypass the gate and are
unaffected.

## Gates
`just check` ✅ | `just test-unit` ✅ | `cargo test -p buzz-relay` ✅ (749
passed, 1 pre-existing failure in
`demo_join_forwarded_arm_round_trips_echo` — flaky on `main`, unrelated
to this PR, verified red at `origin/main` before this branch)
