fix(sidebar): converge stale-at-open state across devices (sections/sort/stars/mutes) (#7805)
Adds bounded-backoff recovery reads to all four sidebar sync hooks (sections, sort, stars and mutes). A stale relay read at app open now converges without a user edit or a reconnect. ## What this does **Shared recovery hook (`useStaleReaderRecovery`).** All four hooks use one retry effect. It reads immediately on mount, then at 5, 10, 30 and 60 s, staying at 60 s after that. A change of `visibilityState` to `visible` triggers an immediate read. Reads are single-flight. The effect restarts whenever `pubkey` or `relayUrl` changes, so a hook that stays mounted while switching relays drops the old relay's in-flight reads. **Guards that stop a recovery read from rolling back a local edit:** 1. **Skip the read while an edit is pending.** If an edit is pending when a tick starts, the tick skips its read and just schedules the next one. Without this, the read could return the pre-edit blob after the edit published and pending cleared. At that point neither apply-time guard could reject it. 2. **Pending check inside the state updater.** `hasPending()` and the effect lifetime are re-read inside `setStore(prev => ...)`. That way the check runs when React executes the updater, not when the response arrives. 3. **Local-mutation revision.** Each hook counts its local edits. The count is snapshotted when a read starts and checked again at apply time. If an edit landed while the read was in flight, the response is discarded. 4. **Head advanced only after a successful cache write.** A failed `write*Store()` leaves the same head retryable on the next tick. **Ownership-aware pending clear.** Each sync manager's `doPublish(store)` now clears `pendingStore` only while it still holds that same `store`, on both the identical-payload early return and the success path. Before, an older publish that finished after a newer edit had replaced `pendingStore` wiped the newer edit's pending marker, so a recovery read before the newer debounce could apply the older relay head over it. `destroy()` still clears unconditionally. ## Scope Reader-side recovery plus the ownership-aware pending clear. No outboxes, arbitration or replay changes. It applies to `useChannelSections`, `useChannelSortPreference`, `useChannelStars` and `useChannelMutes`. feat(desktop): relay admin console for the /api/admin/v1 operator surface (#4768)
Adds a relay admin console under Settings — the single surface for relay-level operator work — replacing the previously unreachable moderation section. Operators authenticate with their own Nostr key over NIP-98 — no browser extension, no bearer token — to view deployment-wide moderation reports and product feedback, resolve/dismiss/escalate/reopen reports, update feedback status, and manage the operator/moderator staffing roster. ## Nav reachability The old `moderation` section id was defined in `settingsSections` but never wired into any group in `settingsNavGroups`, so the sidebar never rendered it — unreachable since #1617. This PR replaces it with a `relay-admin` section wired into the Communities nav group, pointing at the relay admin console, and drops the separate `admin-console` section id so a single surface owns relay-level trust & safety. The Relay admin nav entry is always visible. Auth gates the panel itself; the nav entry is a door, not a credential — hiding it behind discovery state would strand an operator whose relay transiently fails NIP-11 discovery with no path back to the connection settings. ## Discovery and connection On mount the console reads the connected relay's NIP-11 document for the optional `admin_api` field. When a valid origin is discovered **and its host matches the connected relay's host** (case-insensitive, host identity only), it is automatically saved and probed — the panel renders immediately with no Save step required. A cross-host advertisement is pre-fill only: it populates the manual origin field under Advanced and is never saved or probed without an explicit Save, so a relay cannot direct an unconsented NIP-98 signature at a third-party origin; residual exposure on the same-host path is bounded by NIP-98's URL/method/payload binding. Saving is only required for manual origin changes. The advertised origin is untrusted input: revalidated through `AdminOrigin::parse`, falling back to manual entry when absent or invalid. A saved manual origin always takes precedence over discovery. ## Auth and transport (Rust, `src-tauri/src/commands/admin/`) - `AdminOrigin` value object: validates scheme + host + optional port, rejects credentials/path/query/fragment; `http://` only for loopback. The relay side normalizes its configured admin host at config load and compares inbound `Host`/`Origin` hosts case-insensitively. - `AdminRoute` closed enum: no IPC surface accepts arbitrary URLs, so the NIP-98-signed URL is byte-identical to the fetched URL. - Dedicated no-redirect `reqwest` client as an SSRF guard: a relay `3xx` is an error and the NIP-98 header never crosses origins. - `admin_probe` signs `GET /probe` and returns a typed state (`nip98Authorized` / `nip98Denied` / `disabled` / `notAdminApi` / `networkOrIntercepted`). The response body is validated against the full relay contract — `nip98Authorized` only when the complete NIP-98 invariant holds, `disabled` only on a coherent disabled-mode body; any incoherent or unrelated JSON classifies as `notAdminApi`, so the console never fails open at the network boundary. Unknown fields are tolerated for forward compatibility. - NIP-98 signing via `AppState::signing_keys()`, one retry on `401` with a fresh signed event; response size bounded by a `Content-Length` preflight and a streaming byte counter; per-pubkey origin storage with atomic `0o600` writes. ## Relay admin console The console is gated behind the relay `OPERATOR`/`MODERATOR` roles from #3777; every `/api/admin/v1/*` route returns `403` to anyone else. Community self-administration (`community-members` / Invites) and in-channel enforcement (the 9040–9043 signed commands) are a separate axis and are untouched. The previously-duplicate community report queue (`ModerationQueueCard`, `moderationQueue.ts`, and three dead hooks) was unreachable dead code and is deleted in its own commit; `useBanMemberMutation` and the rest of `features/moderation/hooks.ts` remain in use by the members sidebar and message menu. ## Console UI (TypeScript, `src/features/admin-console/`) - `AdminConsoleSettingsCard`: discovery + probe flow, honest copy for every probe state, manual origin under an `Advanced` disclosure at the bottom. The role (operator/moderator) is rendered in the connection status line as plain text ("Connected as operator") — no badge-shaped elements above the tab row. The origin provenance (relay config / database) appears inside the Advanced card as small muted text. Section title changed to `Admin`. - `AdminConsolePanel` with Reports / Feedback / Staffing tabs (Staffing gated on `role === "operator"`); reports and feedback grouped by community for cross-community triage. - **Reports**: always requests `scope=all` so the existing resolve/cancel/reopen controls can reach every status (`open`, `processing`, `resolved`, `dismissed`, `escalated`). The relay's omitted-scope default is `escalated`-only (the platform-safety backstop); `scope=all` is explicit and scoped to this console. Full action matrix per `target_kind` (event → delete/kick/ban/timeout/dismiss/escalate; pubkey → ban/timeout/dismiss/escalate; blob → dismiss/escalate); kick is suppressed when the report carries no `channelId`. A `processing` row stays navigable — enforcement state lives in the detail view. A `failed` action (always pre-mutation) offers a single **Cancel & reopen** via `POST /reports/{id}/cancel` with `{actionId}` fencing; there is no client-side retry. `pending`/`enforcing` actions belong to the relay recovery worker and offer no button; a `409` reloads detail. Lists refetch on back-navigation after a mutation. - **Report failure UX**: `reportErrorMessage()` strips 4xx/5xx status prefixes and surfaces the relay's own error reason in the toast (e.g. relay returns `"400: you cannot report this content"` → toast shows `"you cannot report this content"`). Self-report blocking UI removed — the relay has no self-report gate, and the failure was purely client-side error surfacing. - **Reason audience disclosure**: the Reason (optional) field shows exact copy under the input based on selected action — Delete discloses that reason is sent verbatim to the affected user and posted publicly in the room; Kick/Ban/Timeout disclose affected-user only; Dismiss/Escalate disclose reporter only. These mirror the actual relay notice paths. - **Enforcement history**: the report detail carries the governing action even after the report leaves `processing` — a report enforced then reopened is `open` yet still shows its `succeeded` action as executed history alongside the resolve form; a reopen does not un-happen a ban. The resolve form gates on `open` status alone. - **Reopen**: terminal reports (`resolved`/`dismissed`/`escalated`) can be returned to `open` for re-triage via `POST /reports/{id}/reopen`. Reopen never reverses applied enforcement, and the copy says so. - **Feedback**: list, detail, and status control (`new`/`reviewed`/`archived`) with a generation-fenced attachment viewer. A purged source community severs provenance to `null` rather than deleting the row; severed rows bucket under a "source community removed" heading. - **Staffing**: Add is create-only with display names resolved via `useUsersBatchQuery` and npub cross-fade on hover (`HoverStaffingIdentity`). An entered key that already appears in the authoritative roster (config, owner-fallback, or DB) is rejected locally with an inline duplicate-key message and no request is issued; a `409 Conflict` from add, role change, or remove surfaces the relay's parsed error body via `adminErrorMessage(e)` — distinguishing config-backed key conflicts from last-operator conflicts without HTTP-status inference. Roster with `config`/`owner_fallback`/`db` source labels; config-backed entries disable remove client-side. In-place role change via `<select>` calling `putAdminOperator`; the relay responds with the effective `OperatorEntry` (`pubkey`, `effectiveRole`, `sources`) in the same shape as the roster list. Read-only badge for config-managed entries. - **Timeout expiry**: `useTimeoutState` clears the store when derived state is `INACTIVE` but the store is still active; the 1s tick is scoped to entries with a known `expiresAtMs` and owned by `ComposerTimeoutBanner` (mounted only while a timeout is active), while `ChannelPane` subscribes to the boolean `useTimeoutActive()` — the pane re-renders when a timeout starts or ends, not every second. `useMembersSidebarModeration` ticks `nowMs` only while the sidebar is open, the viewer can moderate, and some member has a future `mutedUntil`; the tick after the last expiry stops the interval. - Staffing refreshes the principal after a self-demotion or self-removal: `AdminConsolePanel` passes `onSelfMutation` to `StaffingTab`, which re-probes the saved origin so the role badge and tab visibility update without a manual re-probe. - Staffing mutation failures, including both 409 variants (config-backed key vs. last operator), surface the relay's parsed error via `adminErrorMessage`, so the last-operator recovery guidance is shown. - Mutations confirm via `sonner` toasts; failures surface the relay's parsed error `message`, not raw JSON. The `disabled` auth mode renders read-only. ## Mutation idempotency Resolve and reopen carry a per-attempt `requestId`. On first submit the whole command (`{requestId, action, reason, expirationSecs}`) is frozen; after an ambiguous failure (409, 5xx, transport error, truncated response) the snapshot is retained, action/reason/duration controls are locked, and the retry sends the exact same payload byte-for-byte. A definitive pre-commit rejection (non-409 4xx with `bodyComplete: true`) discards the snapshot, unlocks controls, and the corrected submit uses a fresh payload. On success the toast derives from the authoritative `AdminReportResolution` (`activeAction.action` when present; otherwise `status` for decision-only outcomes) — never from the mutable form selection. The native mutation commands — including operator delete — reject with a typed `AdminMutationError` carrying the relay's HTTP status (`relayStatus`, `null` when no verdict exists) and a `bodyComplete` flag that is `true` only when the full response body was read. ## Restriction routes contract change `GET /members/restrictions` and `DELETE /members/{pubkey}/ban|timeout` now take `communityHost` instead of `communityId`; the relay resolves the tenant itself and returns `400 unknown_community_host` for an unmapped host. This is a breaking contract change with no compatibility shim: the relay must run this build before a desktop that uses it, scripts sending `communityId` must switch, and rolling the relay back breaks the desktop Restrictions UI. `docs/admin/README.md` documents the three routes in the route inventory and carries the migration note. Restriction calls also carry the relay the list was loaded from, and the native side rejects a mismatch before building any URL. ## Hardening - Saved admin origins are stored per pubkey and per relay host. The host slug parses the relay URL, keeps the port-drop for DNS names, and encodes IPv6 hosts canonically, so two IPv6 relays never share a file and no IPv6 slug can match a DNS slug. - NIP-11 admin discovery has its own 10s request deadline and reads `/info` success and error bodies through the bounded reader with a 64 KiB cap (`Content-Length` is only a pre-check). - `PUT /operators` builds its `OperatorEntry` response from the validated body (`effectiveRole = role`, `sources = ["db"]`) instead of re-reading the roster, so a concurrent change can't turn a committed write into a `403`. Discover alternate Buzz ACP commands (#6948)
🤖 I’m Larry. ## Summary Managed-agent definitions can now choose which installed ACP transport will launch the agent. The choice sits beside **Agent harness** while creating or editing an agent, so it is made before first deployment and remains visible afterward. Buzz discovers executable commands named `buzz-*-acp`, keeps **Buzz ACP (default)** as the safe default, and preserves existing custom command values. Discovery and launch share the same resolver, so a command offered in the picker is the command Buzz will execute. ## UX walkthrough ### 1. The ACP command picker appears while creating the agent The default is explicit, and the helper text explains that this selection controls deployment. ### 2. Installed wrapper commands are offered by name Here Buzz has discovered `buzz-janet-acp` alongside the stock transport. ### 3. The wrapper is selected before deployment ### 4. The deployed profile reports the effective command ### 5. Editing the deployed agent reopens its definition with the choice preserved ## Details - Definitions carry the selected ACP command through relay publication, snapshots, imports, team adoption, deployment, and later edits. - Existing definitions without this field continue to use `buzz-acp`. - Unknown persisted commands remain visible but unavailable rather than being silently replaced. - Discovery is read-only and never executes candidates. It filters non-files and non-executables, supports Windows `.exe`, `.cmd`, and `.bat` shims, deduplicates aliases, and returns a stable sorted list. - Command names remain portable; Buzz does not persist machine-specific absolute paths. --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Larry <8cf5a83f590ec0955b11647d1c88f796a98e088c30a492c58e0e46c3026ae7a4@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Signed-off-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Larry <8cf5a83f590ec0955b11647d1c88f796a98e088c30a492c58e0e46c3026ae7a4@nostr> Co-authored-by: Larry <8cf5a83f590ec0955b11647d1c88f796a98e088c30a492c58e0e46c3026ae7a4@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(canvas): add version history with atomic restore (#6780)
🤖 Adds append-only channel canvas history, restore, and relay-authoritative optimistic concurrency so stale edits cannot silently replace a newer canvas. ## What this adds - **Desktop history and restore** — browse revisions with author, timestamp, preview, and diff; restore an older revision as a new signed head after explicit confirmation. Persisted empty canvases remain reachable, mutation outcomes are announced accessibly, and focus moves to a stable destination after save or restore. - **CLI history and restore** — `buzz canvas history --channel …`, `buzz canvas get --channel … --revision <id>`, and `buzz canvas restore --channel … --revision <id>` use keyset pagination over the retained revision stream. - **SDK canvas builders** — optional `expected-revision` tags, bounded ancestry classification, and shared timestamp discipline keep first-party writes ahead of the head they read without propagating poisoned future timestamps. ## Authoritative concurrency contract Tagged canvas writes use compare-and-swap semantics in the relay and database: - `expected-revision=none` succeeds only when no live canvas exists. - An event ID succeeds only when it names the canonical live head. - A byte-identical replay succeeds only when that event is already the canonical live head. - A successful candidate must sort strictly ahead of the current head under `created_at DESC, id ASC`. - Malformed preconditions and stale or non-advancing writes are rejected before event rows, mentions, or fan-out are committed. The database serializes tagged writes, unconditional kind `40100` writes, and canvas soft deletion on the same `(community, kind, channel)` advisory key. Untagged `buzz canvas set` remains an unconditional write, but participates in that serialization boundary so it cannot race a tagged save or deletion. Deletion classification is derived inside the datastore transaction; unrelated event kinds do not take the canvas lock. ## Read and timestamp consistency Precondition and post-write ancestry reads request strong consistency from `/query`, pinning them to the writer when replica routing is enabled. Display-only history remains replica-eligible. First-party canvas writers stamp `created_at = max(now, head + 1)` with a conservative client skew limit. The relay applies a canvas-specific future-timestamp ceiling before persistence, preventing an accepted boundary head from making subsequent first-party writes invalid while preserving the broader ingest limit for other event kinds. ## Durable outcomes and recovery After an accepted publish, a failed verification read is reported as durable success with `verified: false` rather than a failed save. Desktop and CLI preserve the new event ID and direct users to History when verification is unavailable. A successful read walks the bounded, cycle-guarded `expected-revision` ancestry chain so transitive descendants are not misclassified as supersession. Canvas caches invalidate for every settled mutation outcome, including a retained but superseded revision. The 409 reconciliation path in `cmd_restore_canvas` now separately establishes persistence evidence from ancestry classification. `canvas_write_survived` checks reachability only; a secondary writer-pinned IDs lookup distinguishes "A absent" from "A present but superseded by a legacy write." The four-way outcome (survived / persisted-but-superseded / genuinely-absent / read-fail) is now correct for all lost-response shapes including unconditional legacy writes. --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Hayt <9e1c23a3fd83f61da34420e4e88ff1b16e45cafcc0cd9019eb07d4ecfa8ca9b0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): refresh channels after access-revoked closure (#7784)
Pinky is updating this PR on Wes’s behalf. ## Summary - Treat exact `CLOSED restricted: channel access revoked` on a known channel-scoped live subscription as a hint to refresh authoritative channel state. - Reuse `useLiveChannelUpdates`’ existing debounced, idle-aware query refresh. Keep terminal retirement, explicit membership denial, and polling unchanged. - Cover archived, unchanged, removed, and failed authoritative results; burst coalescing; irrelevant/stale frames; exact-reason rejection; and unmount cleanup with seven production-path regression cases. The hint does **not** establish archive or membership state. This closes a missed-update recovery gap without changing the relay or blindly retrying subscriptions. Related symptom report: https://github.com/block/buzz/issues/7026 (not claimed fully resolved; archived-channel delete policy is separate). Related new-client fix: https://github.com/block/buzz-app/pull/106 Originating conversation: buzz://message?channel=cb38cd5a-c920-40a1-b770-e9b89c289476&id=d22c1eed473016cf1f73c889a4cc88f1491ee092cfe3794575f8fea8003aa19e ## Review follow-up and main integration At **`51ec7482ad1e600bd02ea6b9ed265db8a70e7266`**, based on main **`c213d90d5c450e2e579505da4a4145f528ecbcf2`**: - Addressed Jude’s P2: a known channel-scoped live subscription closed with `restricted: not a channel member` stays terminal but must not refresh channels. - Mutation verification: replacing the exact reason predicate with `startsWith("restricted:")` produced **6,588 passes / 1 expected failure**, specifically the new no-refresh assertion (`actual: 1`, `expected: 0`). Restored the exact predicate; the final full suite passed **6,589/6,589**. - Resolved both conflicts with #7790, retaining main’s paced/cancellable subscriptions and this PR’s hint after terminal cleanup/drain cancellation. The fixture advances the production drain with a consistent virtual clock; it does not stub or bypass admission. - Integration crossed the session file’s 1,200-line ceiling (1,207). Extracted only this PR’s exact predicate/listener set into `relayChannelAccessRevocations.ts`, with unchanged session ownership and cleanup. No limit change, new timer, retry policy, or unrelated refactor. Final feature diff: 46 production additions across three files, plus the 333-line regression fixture. - Independent read-only review of the integration and final extraction found no blocking findings. This is not GitHub approval. ## Validation At exact pushed head **`51ec7482ad1e600bd02ea6b9ed265db8a70e7266`**: - Mandatory hooks passed without bypasses: desktop lint/policy checks, TypeScript, repository file-size gate, branch-skew check, and full desktop suite **6,589/6,589**, zero failed/cancelled/skipped. - Working tree clean after push. DCO passed on GitHub. - Fresh hosted CI and Desktop Release Candidate checks are running; prior-head green checks are not evidence for this head. Re-review requested from `jedwards27`; the changes-requested review and required approval remain for the reviewer to update. ## Evidence boundaries - Native IPC is stubbed; the fixture exercises actual subscription creation, raw CLOSED dispatch, mounted hook, authoritative query refresh, and IPC result conversion. It does not exercise native discovery or rendered sidebar behavior. Existing in-flight refresh retention remains source/helper-test coverage rather than a new integrated case. - No native app launch, live archive mutation, or release certification. This fixes a demonstrated recovery mechanism, not proof of the exact original incident ordering. - The initial broad local `just ci` attempt hit a 300-second timeout compiling `buzz-voice`; full local `just ci` remains incomplete. Current delivery uses mandatory path-scoped hooks and fresh hosted CI; no unrelated native/mobile lane was bypassed or claimed rerun locally. --------- Signed-off-by: Pinky <5f5ab050ec58ae208332edd544ebf705221e24c1b86d82a6ca07038a7a8f6ac9@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Pinky <5f5ab050ec58ae208332edd544ebf705221e24c1b86d82a6ca07038a7a8f6ac9@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): bound startup request bursts and recover quota refusals (#7790)
Prepared by Brain on Wes’s behalf. ## Summary Reduce startup request amplification and let quota-refused background work recover without changing relay quotas or bypassing the existing Send gate. - Coalesce nest regeneration into one worker plus the latest pending generation. Keep the stale-write fence; bound the archive read so an old workspace cannot strand newer work. - Claim pending channel subscriptions before awaiting setup; cancel removed/unmounted entries and preserve still-owned subscriptions across reconnect handoff. - Recheck extended cooldown deadlines before retry dispatch; distinguish an explicit zero-second hint from a missing hint. - Recover native finite/unread queries within their original caller deadline and a three-retry budget, preserving verified unique events, complete filters and terminal errors. - Pace renderer initial/live-CLOSED REQs at one per 250ms: visible channel and explicitly interactive TTS/read-state/observer owners first, then live-only auxiliaries, then background history. Publication and finite queries bypass this queue. Reconnect replay now promotes explicit interactive owners alongside the visible channel with stable registration-order ties; its existing capped batches and cooldown remain intact. **Scope at `867495426`:** 39 source/test files, including 15 production files (+665/-235) and 24 test/fixture files. The diagnostic recorder, HTTP instrumentation, trace launcher and raw captures are deliberately excluded. No profile reset, grouping, quota increase or new global scheduler. ## Before / after evidence These are observations from instrumented, human-operated development Tauri/Vite runs against a production relay, plus explicitly identified controlled regressions—not a packaged-release startup benchmark. | Measurement | Before | After | Evidence boundary | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Archive snapshot requests (kind 13535) | 290 | 3 | Recorder-only baseline → nest-only intermediate candidate; unequal 67.436s / 39.273s captures and hydration differences | | Archive responses: HTTP 200 / 429 | 277 / 13 | 3 / 0 | Same baseline/nest-only captures; not a claim that all quota pressure disappeared | | Successful archive responses’ advertised content-length sum | 21,208,505 bytes | 229,695 bytes | Header values, not actual transferred bytes | | 154-channel StrictMode replay | 308 REQs | 154 REQs | Controlled real React hook → real session → mocked Tauri transport regression | | Add one channel while 154 setups are pending | 309 REQs | 155 REQs | Same production-boundary regression; ordinary mount remains 154 → 154 | | Broad renderer request burst / spacing | 110 broad REQs within 10.766ms in pre-drain capture | 250.061ms minimum / 252.131ms median between broad REQ writes in final longer capture | Different attended runs; pacing rather than a universal request-rate cap | | Native unread query outcomes | Baseline: 8 EOSE / 146 quota CLOSED out of 154 queries | Final longer run: all 156 observed queries reach EOSE; eight refused queries each recover after two refusals | Different runs/workloads; query completion, not badge rendering | ### Timing metrics | Observation | Measured value | | --- | ---: | | Baseline’s two accepted chat EVENT socket writes → positive OK | 173.340ms / 85.556ms | | Nest-only intermediate candidate’s two accepted writes → positive OK | 277.854ms / 78.775ms | | Final candidate, short run, accepted chat writes → positive OK | 80.636ms / 77.506ms | | Final candidate, longer run, accepted chat writes → positive OK | 120.712ms / 86.895ms | | Last initial EOSE among 163 observed broad channel registrations, longer run | 64.550s after trace start | | Last EOSE among 156 observed native unread queries, longer run | 73.972s after trace start | | Native retry waits after 3s then 0s hints, longer run | 3000.7–3002.8ms, then 2001.5–2002.6ms | | Renderer finite-query retry after a 2s hint, longer run | 2061.365ms | Both Sends in each final run were accepted, with no recorded negative OK. Every quota-refused query in the longer run subsequently completed the same query. Its two Sends happened early (17.878s and 21.655s), not near the end. These small samples do not support a percentage latency improvement. **Tradeoffs and limits** - 296 background subscriptions imply about 74s of paced registration before extra cooldowns/high-priority work. The longer capture observed 163 registrations; it did not independently enumerate the expected membership set or record a queue-empty marker. - This is not a global 4-REQ/s cap: finite queries, native requests and reconnect replay are outside the drain and still share relay quota. Quota refusals recover rather than disappear. - Socket-write → OK starts after composer submission and any publisher gate wait. No click-to-visible, launch-to-usable or badge-paint latency is claimed. - Native EOSE is not proof of command return, classification, React state application or visible unread badges. Existing per-channel kinds, since floors, limits, h-less routing, unread lease/scope guard and eight-query concurrency remain intact. - The attended measurements belong to the instrumented candidate, not a fresh release run of this fixes-only commit. At the initial packaging checkpoint (`1bf3d060`), eighteen of twenty files were byte-identical; the other two removed diagnostic gate calls and isolated the nest test’s temporary paths. The subsequent interactive priority/reconnect and readiness fixes have controlled hook/session/browser evidence, not another attended voice/performance run. ### Evidence provenance (captures retained locally, not uploaded) | Capture | SHA-256 | | --- | --- | | Baseline `STARTUP_20260921T194814Z_98811.jsonl` | `f4f0a89ad9aea91084bd6a7432510488166de4cbc906600d88c26d557f380994` | | Nest-only `STARTUP_20260921T202610Z_28642.jsonl` | `ce517b02a3f717c36d96b36bb8616e8fa80b03b12b356bacfd40475925ea3f3e` | | Final short `STARTUP_20260922T013628Z_13506.jsonl` | `bfea6f3cf80cd7b7e4e676632a3df2f16271fade5bfa0edec72b7bcbbe7839ff` | | Final longer `STARTUP_20260922T014637Z_15846.jsonl` | `f4abece613d108c4c2fe3cb808e633a0486bdc9993ca92323822dc00c3fae6ec` | Final instrumented build fingerprint: `b0b4fc27d793c3e643f4e10289b5afdb4620ee2e13a8b33fa0595dd3417fd5ca`. All observed dropped-record counters in these final captures were zero. Source manifests and offline correlation analyses are retained locally; no raw captures, profile data or agent sessions are part of this PR. ## Validation Current head: `86749542657a60abdfe82eed5cc576d3e162fe5d`, based on `77729abfb692b25a0f4ec4a69add86af2e32c0dd`. Review follow-ups: - `8842dbd8`: explicit interactive TTS admission using the existing main-window owner, independent of companion/timeline selection. Real-hook/session/IPC coverage with 296 cold owners proves initial and CLOSED priority, unchanged filters/cooldown/pacing, background progress and deduplicated speech. - `8cb088106`: reconnect preserves interactive priority even with no visible channel. Stable ordering among foreground ties; real hook/session reconnect regressions cover cooldown, capped batching, all 297 owners, deduplication and unmount cancellation. Independent reviewer mutation restored the prior replay implementation, failed both reconnect rows, then passed the restored candidate. - `68e76d7c`: read-state and observer reuse interactive priority. Stop and ModelPicker wait on the existing observer owner inside send callbacks, after installing result listeners/deadlines. No new owner, timer or scheduler; inherited CLOSED/fallback/error semantics remain, rather than a new strict EOSE guarantee. The real Stop panel browser probe holds observer IPC across the click and checks observer-before-control order and correlated outcome. ModelPicker component ordering is source-reviewed only. - Mock live admission now replays matching stored history with per-filter time/limit constraints, deduplication, untagged auxiliary channel fallback and authoritative explicit h-tags. Kind-specific fixture admission waits and retry-resolving hover actions fix startup-dependent test setup without weakening event/badge assertions. - `48e9c0dad` and `867495426`: steady-state scroll-prepend setup observes live admission, subsequent head dispatch, successful/idle query completion and initial bottom geometry. Phase-2 genuine-growth and ≤32px anchor assertions are unchanged. This isolates steady-state prepending: it **does not fix or certify production early-scroll/head-reset behavior**. Current validation: - Normal push hooks at `867495426`: **6,582/6,582 renderer tests**, zero failed/skipped/cancelled; lint/static checks, typecheck and differential file-size gate passed. Native source is unchanged from the earlier checkpoint; no new native run is claimed for these renderer/test follow-ups. - E2E build passed at `48e9c0dad` plus the exact subsequently committed test-only delta (spec blob `469be2eed868c677ba80b859cc871208000fee60`). The completed affected-smoke run passed **153/153** across agent-control, badge, entity links, messaging, profile status and scroll history; the full scroll file additionally passed twice (**36/36**). No full CI-smoke pass is claimed from this six-file local run. - Pinky independently reviewed production and test follow-ups, including the final scroll spec blob `469be2eed868c677ba80b859cc871208000fee60`, with no blocking finding. Review is source evidence, not an independent test run. - **Not merge-ready:** new-head required CI must complete, exact-range security review requires authorization, and GitHub currently reports REVIEW_REQUIRED; fresh exact-head reviewer approval is still needed. No approval, dismissal or merge performed. No new packaged/native audio, launch-to-usable or badge-paint observation is claimed. Initial fixes-only checkpoint validation (`1bf3d06024d284a63326fdd353baced0842aeb81`): - Pre-commit formatting hooks passed; worktree clean. - Renderer package hooks: 6,570 tests passed, zero failed/skipped/cancelled; lint/static checks, TypeScript and differential file-size gate passed. - Native package hook passed: default and mesh-enabled all-target Clippy, then the complete native workspace test suite. App library: 3,222 passed / 0 failed / 19 ignored; terminal/integration suites passed. The real nest trigger/stalled-body test passed on macOS. - Independent whole-change source review: no blocking findings at this commit; all 20 file hashes matched the committed blobs and review/validation manifests. - Regression coverage includes real hook/session cancellation, StrictMode/membership re-entry, reconnect ownership, extended/zero cooldowns, burst pacing, auxiliary readiness (including EOSE before IPC settles), native socket refusal/retry/deadline/cancellation, unread fetch/classification and real nest trigger/HTTP/file persistence. - Earlier isolated renderer mutations that started readiness before enqueue or removed auxiliary priority each failed the real presence regression; restored controls passed. No native mutation claim. - Nest fixture uses explicit app-data/nest paths instead of assuming Windows known-folder APIs obey HOME/APPDATA. Windows runtime execution is not claimed; CI/build results remain separate. fix(desktop): keep managed agent avatars usable across communities (#7732)
## Summary Fix Desktop-managed agents losing avatars after joining another community. The saved persona/instance stores one desired source URL, but authenticated media belongs to a community. Republishing community A’s URL in B does not make that image accessible in B. - Before comparing or publishing kind-0, reuse or copy configured-community avatar media into the pinned destination. Keep exact image bytes, including animation, and leave the saved source unchanged. - Keep the previous profile on transfer/publication failure so existing reconciliation can retry. Reuse destination bytes during source outages; after source removal, reuse only an already-published signed destination picture with the same original content hash. - Refresh source permissions through narrow, serialized IPC without reconnecting or resetting the active community. Startup waits until the latest permission update completes before restoring agents. ### Related issue Refs #2366 (avatar portion only, not runtime availability). Related #2659 deliberately excludes avatar/media mirroring; this change addresses that media boundary without introducing runtime fan-out. Searched existing issues/PRs for `avatar community` before opening. ## Contract and safety Desktop-managed profiles still follow the saved persona source; this does not introduce community-specific persona editing. Agent-managed profiles still opt out of automatic reconciliation. Authenticated transfer requests use the fixed agent key/NIP-OA tag, origin-scoped Blossom auth, and the pinned destination, never mutable active-workspace owner credentials. They refuse redirects, enforce 30-second request timeouts and bounded bodies, verify SHA-256 and detected image MIME, and validate the returned descriptor’s origin/hash/MIME/size. Source permission is rechecked after an awaited destination HEAD miss. The removed-source fallback verifies the destination profile’s signature, kind, signer, origin, and original-media hash without contacting the removed source. Ordinary external images retain passthrough behavior and receive no community credentials. No public-media policy change, image-reader URL rewriting, new persistence, background service, or global profile merge. ## Testing Normal commit and push hooks passed on exact head `925781eece66d5f6a4b084b3b3abd6309cda357e`; working tree clean before and after: - Desktop formatting/lint, typecheck, and **6,508 tests**. - Full native workspace suite, including **3,204 desktop-library tests** (19 ignored), integration tests, terminal crates, and doc tests. - Native Clippy on default and `mesh-llm` workspace/all-target configurations with warnings denied; repository file-size and branch-skew gates. Regression coverage exercises production reconciliation/shared publication against two local HTTP fixtures: add/edit/restart, upload and rejected-publication retry, removed-source local-image preservation, fixed signer/destination, redirect/hash/descriptor/size failures, revocation during pending HEAD, and opt-out no-I/O. Mounted initialization tests cover inactive-list changes without workspace reset, two deferred permission updates, and rejection of either update. Earlier working-tree validation at base `4ab4f786085a23fe6126529861840eff6048ceee` also passed the E2E frontend build and four Chromium mock-bridge community flows (boot, switch, active removal/fallback, leave-final/setup). Subsequent production changes only serialize permission writes and wait for a stable latest update; the complete suites above cover the final commit. Mutations independently removing serialization or stable waiting failed the new regression. ## Remaining validation and limitations - No live production avatar was changed. Native GUI rendering against two hosted communities remains to be verified with a build containing this fix; local HTTP fixtures and the browser mock bridge do not establish that outcome. - A removed/unreachable source with no existing destination copy cannot be recovered automatically. Choose a reachable image/source in that case. - This is a publication/reconciliation fix, not a visual redesign. No before/after native GUI screenshots are claimed. Broad repository CI remains required; it was not duplicated locally. ## Review Independent security/scope and caller/ordering reviews are clear after the bounded fixes. Final hook-ordering reread covered the staged tree that became this commit. Commit authorship/sign-off use the implementing Carl identity and configured Carl signing key. Configure ACP session scope per agent (#7578)
## Summary PR #6732 taught the ACP harness to honor `BUZZ_ACP_SESSION_POLICY`, but the desktop exposed that policy as one global experiment. Turning it on changed every managed agent at once, even though conversation scope is part of how an individual agent should behave. Some agents need continuity across a channel, while agents such as validators may need clean context for each thread. This moves the choice onto the agent definition under Advanced as **Conversation context**, with **Entire channel** and **Each thread** options. **Entire channel** remains the default, so existing definitions keep their current behavior. The policy now travels through create and update IPC, returned agent summaries, persona events, snapshots, teams, and community catalog copies. Launches pass the effective definition value to the harness. Editing a running agent uses the same lifecycle as a model edit: it shows the restart-required state, leaves the deployed process untouched, and applies the new policy on restart. The global Thread Scoped ACP Sessions experiment and its desktop command/state have been removed because the setting no longer has a useful global meaning. There is intentionally no migration for the old preview override. Users who enabled it can choose **Each thread** for the agents that need it. Unknown or null policy values degrade to **Entire channel** across stored agents, persona events, and catalog projections. This keeps forward-version data from dropping complete agent records. ### Related issue No matching issue found. Builds on #6732. ### Testing - Focused Playwright create flow selected **Each thread** and verified `create_persona` received `sessionPolicy: "thread"`. - Focused Playwright catalog flow added a thread-scoped agent and verified the local copy stored `session_policy: "thread"`. fix(desktop): isolate quota backoff and reuse channel discovery rosters (#6998)
Pinky, an AI agent, is updating this PR on Wes's behalf. ## Targeted repair, not a startup rewrite This replaces the previous readiness/replay candidate. Current head: **`83ac81ff6ae439b0e68f4a3dafd4b2af6dbadcdb`**, two independent commits on main base `3c7f288c60d67df78577b237e27c3dfc8831aaa1`: 1. **`0b6681de2` — keep quota backoff on its transport.** HTTP 429s retain native HTTP backoff without arming the renderer WebSocket gate. WebSocket quota/concurrency CLOSED retains its retry deadline without damping HTTP's separate quota. The explicit `rate-limited: shared admission unavailable` signal still damps HTTP too. Reuse existing all-channel live streams for Home mention invalidation instead of a second per-channel mention subscription; retain kind, recipient, self, membership, replay-deduplication, notification and unread boundaries. 2. **`83ac81ff6` — reuse complete membership rosters within each channel fetch.** Discovery already returns full paginated rosters. Retain those results and request only uncovered directory/pending-owner channel IDs. Skip empty fallback filters and preserve covered counts/pubkeys if that tolerant fallback fails. The next fetch reads current membership again; there is no persistent cache or new invalidation state. No send-route, AUTH-readiness, replay-ordering, scheduler, pacing, relay policy, dependency, or authorization changes. Refresh triggers and activity batching stay unchanged. Independent tracing did not establish a safe-to-delete duplicate normal-startup refresh; recovery invalidations at different replay stages are not interchangeable. **Size:** 18 files, +1,066/-350 overall; nine production paths +76/-205 (**129 fewer production lines**). The roster follow-up itself touches only `fetch.rs` (+31/-14) and its new 378-line regression file. Test bulk is not new startup machinery. ## Comparative roster measurement Actual native HTTP fetch code against a synthetic Axum loopback fixture: 265 channels × 100 members, deterministic signed events, debug build. Seven iterations per condition; medians below exclude the first warm-up. Baseline is `0b6681de2` production fetch, candidate is `83ac81ff6` production fetch, with the same temporary benchmark harness. | Measure | Baseline | Candidate | | --- | ---: | ---: | | HTTP reads per fetch | 7 | 6 | | JSON response-body bytes per fetch | 4,803,136 | 2,453,380 | | Median, no artificial request delay | 262.9 ms | 149.3 ms | | Median, 25 ms artificial delay per request | 376.7 ms | 282.7 ms | Channel/member assertions and output hash (`fa7cc551bc855e4d`) match throughout. This removes **one batched roster request**, not 265 requests. The measured ~43%/~25% reductions describe this large-roster synthetic fixture, **not production startup latency**. Activity requests run concurrently with roster enrichment, so real savings vary. Counts now use the discovery snapshot rather than a later reread within that same non-atomic fetch. ## Verification At pushed head **`83ac81ff6`**: - All enabled pre-push gates passed without bypass: `push-head-scope`, `branch-skew`, `desktop-check`, `file-size-check`, `desktop-typecheck`, `desktop-test`, `desktop-tauri-checks` (native fmt/Clippy/tests). - Full Desktop frontend suite: **6,457 passed**, zero failures; separate tooling suite: **10 passed**. - Full native Desktop workspace: **3,276 passed**, zero failures, 20 ignored, across unit/integration/doc bins. The main native lib accounts for 3,175 passed / 19 ignored; this is not 3,276 lib tests. - `pnpm build` passed the protected-feature artifact matrix; `pnpm build:e2e` also passed. Existing chunk-size/dynamic-import warnings remain. No full repository `just ci` run locally. - **130 selected headless mock-bridge smoke cases passed across two runs**: messaging, reconnect, reconnect affordances, inbox live updates, sidebar snapshots, send-channel binding, boot splash. The first invocation hit the shell's 300-second limit after 117 passes and no failures; all remaining 13 passed in a separate invocation. This is not a claim the interrupted invocation completed. - Six new tests invoke production `fetch_channels` through the real native HTTP client and cover 265/501-channel pagination (including same-timestamp continuation), exact requests, complete/deduplicated rosters, directory/pending fallback, hidden DMs, repeated membership/identity/relay changes, empty lists and errors. - Falsification in an isolated source copy: restoring the redundant baseline fetch fails four roster regressions; removing missing-roster fallback fails two. Restored candidate passes all six. Earlier transport mutations fail HTTP→WS coupling, WS→HTTP coupling, omitted shared-outage damping and duplicate-mention regressions. No mutation was applied to the committed worktree. - Brain's independent static reviews found no blockers in the transport repair or immutable roster patch. Source tracing confirms relay discovery serializes complete rosters, not projected matching p-tags. This was source review, not independent test execution or approval. ### Hosted CI [CI run 34185670504](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/34185670504) **completed successfully** for this head. GitHub checked out merge ref `25bcf09627e129887481d4441a1af3c6cb0af1ff`; its Git tree is identical to `83ac81ff6` (`49a01f3c2ebf4e547bbe3cd31406f984ac6cefe8`), verified through the GitHub Git API. The final PR rollup has 33 successful checks and 28 skipped, with none failing or pending. - Desktop Core passed frontend/native suites and compiled-feature verification. Windows Rust tests, Windows Desktop build, macOS `.app`/`.dmg` build, all four smoke shards and both relay-backed E2E job shards passed, as did Rust lint, DCO, Semgrep and zizmor. - Browser job totals: **1,620 passed, 13 flaky cases passing automatic retry #1, five skipped, zero terminal failures**. Smoke accounts for 1,389 passed / 12 flaky / three skipped; integration jobs report 231 passed / one flaky / two skipped. No manual CI reruns or source changes to obtain green. - The retries cover channel-browser, empty-edit, huddle menu, runtime-install, overscroll, onboarding avatar, video attachment and workflow UI assertions. They are disclosed, not collectively declared unrelated. The video case reaches the changed real TS all-channel hook despite mocking native I/O: independent tracing found no regression mechanism or blocker, but the missing second-video player remains **unexplained**, and an indirect timing effect is not excluded. The self-authored, unmentioned event cannot use either the new mention branch or the removed old mention handler as a delivery path. A passing retry does not diagnose its cause. - The separate “Desktop Release Candidate” check skipped its validation step; it is not additional release validation. Codex security review was skipped, not passed. ## Remaining acceptance limits Wes's earlier manual trial of the transport-only candidate reported improvement; relay readback found both a top-level message and a thread reply. That was not a fingerprinted or timed trial of the new roster commit. The remaining few-second top-level send wait is **unattributed**, and this PR does not claim to resolve every startup delay. No visible app launch, relaunch, laptop input automation, or production test messages during this follow-up. Local native tests use fixtures; browser suites do not run the Tauri backend. CI building an app does not validate bundled macOS alerts or inactive-channel notification delivery. Those bundled real-workflow checks remain outstanding. No visual UI changes or screenshots; no approval or merge performed. perf(desktop): publish mention sends before waking agents (#7154)
## Summary Cuts perceived agent-mention send latency by publishing the message first and waking the agent afterwards, instead of blocking the send on a synchronous agent start/deploy round-trip. A send that mentions a stopped or undeployed managed agent now shows the message immediately; the wake runs fire-and-forget after the relay accepts the publish. The already-running-agent send also gets faster via revalidation dedupe and NIP-11 caching. ## Changes ### Publish-first agent wake - Wakes for mentioned managed agents are collected during send preparation and flushed fire-and-forget only after `await send(...)` resolves. No start can fire — and no "your message was sent" toast can appear — for a message the relay never accepted; every abort path (cancel, readiness error, publish rejection, dismissed non-member prompt) simply drops the queue. Persona-create wakes ride the pending draft behind the non-member prompt for the same reason. - Each wake is bound to the tenant scope captured at send time: the new `useDetachedAgentStart` hook passes `expectedRelayUrl` + `expectedSignerPubkey` with every start, so a wake that outlives a community switch fails closed at the backend instead of spawning against the new tenant. A wake whose scope has not resolved yet (identity query still loading, blank stored relay URL) is refused with a recoverable toast rather than fired unscoped. - In-flight wakes are deduped through a module-level map keyed by `(relay URL, pubkey)` — the same tenant pair the backend keys on — so two quick sends or two composers cannot double-spawn a cold agent during the seconds-long start window. Entries are deliberately retained across community switches (the key *is* the tenant scope, so a retained entry can never affect another community, and clearing it let an A→B→A round trip deploy a provider agent twice) and self-clean when the start settles. - Wake-failure toasts are fenced to the community they fired in via a module-level scope mirror: a start that settles after a community switch logs instead of rendering community A's failure over community B's UI, and an A→B→A return re-delivers the warning where it is actionable. - Membership attach and access-policy writes stay synchronous, so the harness's first kind-39002 read still sees the channel. ### Replay floor - The send timestamp travels with the wake as `BUZZ_ACP_REPLAY_FLOOR`, threaded through both local spawns (`spawn_agent_child`) and provider deploys (`deploy_to_provider` injects it into `launch.policy_env`), so the harness's startup watermark replays back past the just-published triggering message no matter how long the spawn takes. `buzz-acp` clamps the floor to `[now − 15min, now]`. - The floor is captured at enqueue time, not flush time — the flush runs post-publish, so a flush-time stamp could exceed the message's `created_at` and skip the very message the floor exists to cover. - On local spawns the caller's floor is asserted *after* the user env layering (and the ambient parent-process value is stripped unconditionally), so a saved persona/global/agent env entry cannot shadow this send's floor — mirroring the shadow-strip the provider path applies to `launch.env`. Both halves share one `REPLAY_FLOOR_ENV_VAR` const. ### Send-path latency reductions (already-running agents) - Mention revalidation is deduped: the publish-boundary pass reuses the pre-side-effect authorization pass unless an awaited round-trip actually separated the two (background upload, link-preview settlement, DM expansion, a real access-policy/membership write, or active-huddle enrollment). This preserves the #5681 authorization boundary while making the common send single-pass. - NIP-11 `self` lookups are cached per relay URL for 5 minutes. Only verified values are cached — non-2xx and malformed responses stay retryable — and URL keying keeps community switches from serving another relay's identity. - `applyReusableAgentAccessPolicy` now reports its relay write explicitly (`{ agent, wrote }`) instead of signalling through object identity, so the revalidation trigger above is load-bearing by construction. ### File splits Four files crossed the repository file-size ratchet during this work; one cohesive unit was extracted from each rather than raising a ceiling — `runtime/setup_payload.rs`, `commands/agents_create_fields.rs`, `app_state_accessors.rs`, and `useEnsureAgentMentionsReady.ts`. The ratchet is green at the tip. ### Review follow-ups The three concrete findings from the first review round are fixed at the tip: the pre-publish wake and its false "your message was sent" toast (fixed by queueing wakes behind the publish), the stale cross-community failure toast (fixed by the scope-mirror fence), and the A→B→A duplicate provider deploy (fixed by retaining the tenant-keyed in-flight entries across switches). The fast-path admission-staleness point is answered in the review thread: deferred paths already re-validate at the publish boundary, and the remaining fast-path window is milliseconds against an irreducible network-transit race. Mid-branch send-perf instrumentation was added to attribute the residual spinner latency and reverted once that analysis concluded — it is net-zero in this diff. ### Deferred follow-ups Durable mention catch-up via `event_mentions` (option 2 step 3) and backend deploy-epoch coalescing for the wake paths that do not funnel through `useDetachedAgentStart` (Agents-panel Start, restore, inbound-persona deploys) are intentionally left for separate changes. ## Testing - `cargo test --lib` on desktop/src-tauri: 3054 passed; clippy `-D warnings` + fmt clean - Desktop unit tests: 5856 passed (the 5 failures are the pre-existing `inboxReopenNavigation` / `useRetainedProjectGitViews` baseline, present on origin/main); `tsc --noEmit` and biome clean - Full mentions (87), channels (89), and community-rail (25) Playwright smoke suites against `pnpm build:e2e` bundles, with 3× stress reruns of each new spec - The load-bearing regression specs were confirmed red on the pre-fix code: publish-failure → zero starts and no false toast, the dedupe hold (1 call vs 2), the fail-closed scope refusal, the rail-switch toast fence, and the A→B→A retention spec (1 deploy vs 2) - New unit coverage pins the queue contract (enqueue-time floors, attach-seam queueing), the scope capture and verbatim relay-URL handoff, the dedupe map's keying and settle-then-repermit behavior, the unscoped refusal, the toast-scope mirror, the `{ agent, wrote }` contract, and the replay-floor env layering on both spawn paths 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Matt Toohey <contact@matttoohey.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(desktop): harden profile batch and thread-reply fetches against relay slowness (#7188)
Three client gaps turn transient relay failures into permanent UI degradation. Under a slow or rate-limited relay: 1. A cold channel's profile batch exhausts its single retry and leaves raw npubs + broken mention chips until the user manually kicks the channel. 2. A thread opened from a notification trusts a successful-but-empty reply read as authoritative and never retries. 3. A rate-limited `CLOSED` on a history subscription immediately rejects the caller rather than retrying after the rate-limit window. All three are addressed without changing global query defaults or the happy-path behavior. ## Changes **Fix 1 — cold profile batch resilience** (`useUsersBatchQuery`, `desktop/src/features/profile/hooks.ts`) Override `retry: 3` with exponential backoff and error-gated `refetchOnWindowFocus: (query) => query.state.status === "error"`, scoped to this query only. The global defaults (`retry: 1`, `refetchOnWindowFocus: false`) are intentional for other queries and are unchanged. After the retry budget exhausts, a window-focus event (e.g. channel-switch) recovers the query automatically — but only when it is already in an error state, preventing unnecessary refetches for successful batches. **Fix 2 — stale-empty thread reads** (`useThreadReplies.ts`, `ChannelScreen.tsx`) Add optional `expectedEventId` parameter. When a completed paged fetch does not contain the expected event, throw `ThreadExpectedEventMissingError` so React Query's built-in retry machinery handles it rather than caching an authoritative empty. `ChannelScreen` passes `threadScrollTargetId` (the notification-linked reply ID) as `expectedEventId`. When notification routing changes `expectedEventId` while the same thread root is already mounted (same query key), an explicit `invalidateQueries` in a `useEffect` triggers a fresh validation pass. The `useEffect` is declared after `useQuery` so TanStack's internal options-update effect installs the new `queryFn` closure first; the refetch therefore uses the current `expectedEventId` rather than the previous null closure. For the cold-start race (target arrives before the first page returns), the effect detects `fetchStatus === "fetching" && status === "pending"` and calls `cancelQueries().then(invalidateQueries)` so the obsolete in-flight response cannot settle as authoritative before the new target's validation closure is active. The query-fn tracks consecutive fetch attempts per target. On attempt 3, it adds the target to `exhaustedTargetsRef` before calling `loadThreadReplies`. `loadThreadReplies` sees the target in the exhausted set and returns the fetched replies directly rather than throwing — the terminal attempt always resolves to success. No re-entrant scheduling: the resolution is synchronous inside the query function itself. Deleted/moderated targets never lock the thread in a terminal error surface. **Fix 3 — CLOSED recovery for history subscriptions** (`relayClosedRecovery.ts`, `relayClientSession.ts`, `relayClientShared.ts`, `relayGateBoundary.ts`) On a rate-limited `CLOSED` the subscription previously rejected the caller immediately. Store `filter` and `timeoutMs` on `HistorySubscription`, then on rate-limited `CLOSED` re-register under a fresh `subId` and defer `sendReq` until the rate-limit window clears — matching the live-sub recovery design already present in `relayClosedRecovery.ts`. Bounded to 3 attempts; exhausted retries reject immediately so callers are never left waiting indefinitely. A new op-timeout guards the retry REQ against a non-responding relay; when the op-timeout fires it sends `CLOSE` for the rotated `subId` (matching the behavior of the original timeout path) so the relay releases the slot rather than counting it against the per-connection cap. ## Tests - `relayClosedRecovery.test.mjs`: behavioral fake-clock tests for history-sub retry, 3-attempt exhaustion, op-timeout CLOSE send + late-EOSE non-regression, rejecting-`closeSubscription` swallowed without unhandled rejection, wiring source assertion (fails if `relayClientSession.ts` drops the `closeSubscription` callback) — 18 tests - `useThreadReplies.test.mjs`: `loadThreadReplies` unit tests (throw/exhaustion-guard); behavioral hook tests via real `QueryClientProvider` + `renderHook`: exhaustion-resolves-to-data, settled null→target change retries on missing-target page and lands target data (fails if `invalidateQueries` is removed OR if `useQuery` is moved after the `useEffect`), cold-fetch cancel-then-invalidate (gated fetcher — released after rerender, stale empty discarded, replacement fetch settles with target); ChannelScreen wiring source assertion — 9 tests - `profileBatchResilience.test.mjs`: source assertions for `retry: 3`, `retryDelay`, error-gated `refetchOnWindowFocus`, and unchanged global defaults — 2 tests --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): discover authenticated owned relay agents (#7122)
🤖 ## Summary An agent you own could be missing from **New message → To:** and **Channel members → Add people and agents** on a machine that has never managed it. This PR lets those existing lists find your agent without requiring a shared channel first. Desktop now checks records proving you own it, rather than looking only at agents in channels you've already joined. **No new screen or control is added.** For example, an agent with verified ownership and **Who can send instructions → Only me (default)** can now appear even with no shared channels. Each screen still applies its existing access rules; this does not make every discovered agent selectable everywhere. | Screen / control | Before | After this PR alone | | --- | --- | --- | | **New message → To:** recipient picker | An owned agent absent from this machine and shared-channel bot lists could be missing. | Its named **agent** row can appear; selecting it adds a recipient chip. This is recipient selection, not a guarantee that a later message will reach or wake the agent. | | **Channel members → Add people and agents** | The same agent could be missing from **Not in this channel** search results. | Its row can appear with the existing **Add** button. If you can add members, that button submits the existing channel-membership request; finding the row alone changes no membership. | | **Stream / forum composer → @ suggestions** | An owned agent already in the channel under an ordinary member role could be missing from agent suggestions. | Its actual membership is recognized without requiring the bot role. Agents not managed on this device still need membership in that channel. | | **Pulse → Agents** | An agent absent from both local management and the server's agent list was omitted from the count and author lookup. | The count and feed's author lookup can include it; notes appear only if it has published them. | Being listed does **not** mean the agent is online, add it to a channel, or grant local Start/Edit controls. For agents not managed on this device, global **Search** still excludes those configured for “Only me”, and DM @ selection is not added here. DM @ selection and message-driven nonmember invitation are addressed in [#7124](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7124); the standalone forum **Invite / Cancel** flow is in [#7125](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7125). <details> <summary>Ownership and membership checks</summary> A discovery lead is not proof: the latest agent profile must have a valid signature and exactly one valid ownership attestation—the owner's signed link to that agent. Its response policy must be signed by that verified owner; an invalid latest policy cannot restore an older permission. Membership comes separately from the latest server-signed roster, including removals. Existing profile cards, owner labels and agent-avatar shapes also use this stricter verification: malformed or forged evidence must not supply ownership/agent classification on its own. Valid ownership was already recognized; no profile-picture or badge design changes. Attestation time conditions apply to the signed event's timestamp, not a live expiry timer. Existing legacy compatibility and builds requiring verified owner policy retain their respective rules. Discovery and sending remain separate operations, not an atomic permission check. </details> ### Review corrections - When runtime and owner policy overlap, **explicit online/away/offline from the verified latest runtime is retained**. Policy still supplies ownership/permissions; claimed runtime membership is not restored. Missing/unrecognized status stays unknown, and invalid latest policy cannot revive runtime permissions. - Discovery without runtime evidence is now **unknown**, not offline: native conversion, both IPC adapters, Pulse, Projects and profile/session consumers preserve that distinction. Unknown has no status dot and is not promoted to a deployed/running agent. - Both relay-only picker paths retain the authenticated owner, including the existing **managed by you** label. The analogous global Search projection is fixed without changing its existing “anyone” filter. - Authorized stored profile activity remains visible when liveness becomes unknown/absent or the active turn ends. History reads do not start a live subscription, grant access, or imply current availability. ### Related issue Independent base: `main`. feat(agents): harness-agnostic effort write path and spawn bridge (#4625)
## Summary Genericizes the agent effort write-side so Goose participates in the same canonical effort contract as buzz-agent. A spawn bridge translates the canonical key to whatever the target harness expects at launch time. Read/write/spawn paths all derive their vocabulary from runtime metadata rather than a hardcoded buzz-agent list. ## What changed ### Rust — config bridge + spawn path - `apply_spawn_effort_env` in `effort.rs`: production command-boundary seam — writes baked env, runs the effort projection, strips per-runtime suppress set, and emits exactly one projected key. - `apply_effort_to_spawn_command` in `runtime.rs`: thin wrapper returning a `#[must_use] EffortApplied(())` token (private field — unforgeable outside the function). `spawn_agent_child` calls it as `let effort = apply_effort_to_spawn_command(...)` and passes `effort` to `spawn_with_effort_proof`. Deleting the call is a compile error: `effort` is undefined at the `spawn_with_effort_proof` site. Deleting `apply_spawn_effort_env` inside the wrapper turns the production-sequence tests RED. - `apply_record_field_updates` in `agent_models_update.rs`: returns `Result<RecordFieldsApplied, String>` (`#[must_use]` token). `update_managed_agent` calls it as `let applied = apply_record_field_updates(...)?` then passes `applied` to `stamp_record_updated_at`. Deleting the call is a compile error: `applied` is undefined at the `stamp_record_updated_at` site. - Unknown/custom-runtime passthrough: `apply_effort_launch_to_command` skips the suppress loop when `preserve_passthrough && value.is_none()`, preserving ambient ACP sentinels. - `EnvVarGuard`: prior value stored as `OsString` (`var_os`) so non-Unicode values are restored exactly on Drop. A single `PROCESS_ENV_MUTEX` in `managed_agents/mod.rs` is shared by `lock_path_mutex()` and `lock_env_mutex()` — any two tests calling either helper are mutually exclusive with each other. Tests in other modules (`app_state_tests`, `agent_config_tests`, `reader_tests`) maintain their own independent locks and are not in this domain. - Dead-code: `strip_effort_keys_from_command` marked `#[cfg(test)]`; import path in `effort_cmd_tests.rs` fixed. - Windows CI fix: platform-gated variants for inherited-env tests. ### TypeScript — renderer + model cleanup - `AgentConfigFields` orphan-model cleanup effect: the `isHarnessNativeEffort` early-return was skipping the model clear on provider→Custom transitions. Refined to: return early only when model is already null; clear model once while preserving the harness-native effort key (Carl P2). - Provider-empty convergence: when model is null and effort is native, the cleanup effect returns early (nothing to clear) — prevents spurious `onConfigChange` loop. - `EffortSelectField` / `humanizeEffortLabel`: runtime-native option labels title-cased (`off` → `Off`) with raw canonical values preserved for round-trip fidelity. - `AgentConfigFields`: drives effort renderer from `selectedRuntime.effortCanonicalValues` (harness-native path) or the model/provider catalog (buzz-agent/provider path), selected by `isHarnessNativeEffort`. ### Docs - `desktop/src/features/agents/AGENTS.md` item 14: updated from deleted `persistAgentEffortLevel` direct-write contract to the shipped Save-gated `update_managed_agent.effortLevel` path. Consistent with `EffortPickerField`'s own doc comment. ### Tests - `agent_models_update_tests.rs`: seam tests via `apply_record_field_updates` — non-local rejects, local set/clear, ordering invariant, ACP-sentinel sweep. `record_field_updates_persist_effort_to_disk` (renamed from the prior false-claim name) drives load→apply→stamp→save→load via a mock AppHandle + tempdir, asserting `effort_level` persists to disk. Manual HOME/XDG restore replaced with RAII `EnvVarGuard` (panic-safe, `OsString`-exact). - `effort_cmd_tests.rs` / `effort_tests.rs`: production-sequence seam tests via `apply_effort_to_spawn_command`. Spawns `/usr/bin/env` to verify child's real env. `EnvVarGuard` for panic-safe restore. Windows twin using `cmd /c set`. - `effortAutoClear.test.mjs`: five mounted stateful journeys via `AgentConfigFields` with `useCustomSelect=true`. Covers: custom trigger shows "Off" at mount; provider-empty mount is a stable fixed point; provider→Custom switch converges; stale Anthropic model cleared on Custom switch with Goose effort preserved (Carl P2 regression); Settings-style Save/reread preserves effort. - `agentDefaultsEditor.test.mjs`: two full Save/Next journey tests through the real production parent trees. Both start with `GOOSE_THINKING_EFFORT: "low"` and operate the real Popover-based effort control (click trigger → click "off" option) before Save/Next, asserting zero writes after selection. The `set_global_agent_config` stub captures the submitted payload; each test asserts raw `GOOSE_THINKING_EFFORT: "off"` in the captured config. The stub stores its canonical response from the actual payload; the fresh remount's `get_global_agent_config` returns that stored object (not a hand-written fixture), then asserts "Off" shown. The `DefaultConfigStep` test starts with `isDirty: false` — the real-control effort selection calls `onConfigChange → updateDraft → isDirtyRef=true`, making the `commit()` on Next load-bearing. ## Mutation evidence - Delete `let effort = apply_effort_to_spawn_command(...)` call from `spawn_agent_child` → compile error: `error[E0425]: cannot find value `effort`` at `spawn_with_effort_proof` site. - Delete `let applied = apply_record_field_updates(...)?` from `update_managed_agent` → compile error: `error[E0425]: cannot find value `applied`` at `stamp_record_updated_at` site. - Delete `apply_spawn_effort_env` from inside `apply_effort_to_spawn_command` wrapper → `production_sequence_goose_inherited_collision_resolved_in_child` RED. - Revert `isHarnessNativeEffort &&` guard in cleanup `useEffect` to bare `if (isHarnessNativeEffort) return` → stale model not cleared → Carl P2 regression test RED. - Remove `isHarnessNativeEffort ||` from the nothing-to-clear condition → provider-empty mount emits `onConfigChange` → loop test RED. - Remove `isHarnessNativeEffort` branch in `AgentConfigFields.tsx:634-636` → both `agentDefaultsEditor.test.mjs` mount assertions fail: trigger shows "Select" instead of initial effort label. - Remove `preserve_passthrough` guard in `apply_effort_launch_to_command` → `production_sequence_custom_inherited_acp_sentinel_survives` RED. - Drop `GOOSE_THINKING_EFFORT` from the `set_global_agent_config` stub payload → payload assertion in `agentDefaultsEditor.test.mjs` fails (`undefined !== "off"`) → RED (verified). - Remove the effort-select dirtying steps from the `DefaultConfigStep` test (so `isDirty` stays false) → `commit()` is a no-op → write-count assertion after Next fails (0 instead of 1) → RED. --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Signed-off-by: Hayt <9e1c23a3fd83f61da34420e4e88ff1b16e45cafcc0cd9019eb07d4ecfa8ca9b0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Hayt <9e1c23a3fd83f61da34420e4e88ff1b16e45cafcc0cd9019eb07d4ecfa8ca9b0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop): add thread-scoped ACP session experiment (#6909)
## Why Thread-scoped ACP sessions from #6732 need an opt-in desktop rollout that preserves today’s channel policy by default. ## What - Add the default-off “Thread Scoped ACP Sessions” toggle under Settings → Experiments using the existing feature-override persistence. - Map the persisted setting to `BUZZ_ACP_SESSION_POLICY=channel|thread` for every local and provider-backed managed ACP launch. Changes apply when managed agents next start; DMs remain conversation-scoped by the backend. - Keep the desktop setting authoritative over descriptor environment and cover the UI, persistence, local spawn, provider payload, and existing Projects/Workflows experiments. ## Risk Assessment Low. The experiment defaults off and explicitly preserves `channel`; changes are limited to managed-agent launch configuration. Existing running agents are unchanged until their next start. ## Testing - `. ./bin/activate-hermit && just ci` — passed on the final restacked tree, including 5,674 desktop tests, 2,796 Tauri tests, and 1,860 mobile tests. - `cd desktop && pnpm build:e2e && pnpm exec playwright test tests/e2e/experimental-features.spec.ts --project=smoke` — 1 passed. - `. ./bin/activate-hermit && cargo test --manifest-path desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.toml session_policy --lib` — 4 passed. - `. ./bin/activate-hermit && cargo test --manifest-path desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.toml commands::agents::deploy::tests --lib` — 15 passed. - `. ./bin/activate-hermit && cargo test -p buzz-backend-kubernetes --test wire_fixtures` — 4 passed. ## Stack Info Stacked on #6732. add public descriptions to agent personas (#7126)
**Category:** new-feature **User Impact:** People can add a short public description to an agent and see what it does directly on agent cards and profiles. **Problem:** Agent cards previously showed only a model label, so people had to open an agent and inspect its instructions to understand its purpose. Public metadata also needed one trustworthy lifecycle across local edits, relay catalogs, profiles, and portable snapshots. **Solution:** Add an optional owner-authored description with a 280-character visible-text policy, publish it as profile `about`, and prefer it on agent cards while retaining the model fallback. Description metadata is excluded from the spawn-content hash, remains definition-owned, and is validated independently at every untrusted or persistence boundary. <details> <summary>File fix(relay): reject a frame on its own acknowledgement channel (#6961)
Pinky, an AI agent, updated this description on Wes's behalf after
taking over the startup investigation.
**Category:** fix
**User Impact:** An EVENT refused by WebSocket admission or handler
saturation receives a correlated `OK(event_id, false, reason)` instead
of an uncorrelated NOTICE, so the client can settle that refusal without
waiting for its publish timeout. Rate-limited refusals also arm client
backoff. This fixes a protocol failure mechanism; it does not establish
that every startup send will succeed or that the reported Desktop
startup incident is fully resolved.
**Problem:** Startup opens several live subscriptions and publishes at
once, and the relay's WebSocket admission gate is a fixed 5-second
window (`ws_admission_budget` = `human_ws_events_per_sec * 5`). If that
shared per-principal quota is exhausted, `enforce_ws_admission`
previously rejected an EVENT with a bare `["NOTICE", reason]`. Quota
pressure is a possible trigger, not proof of the original incident's
complete cause.
A NOTICE carries no event id. Both clients settle a pending publish
*only* from an `OK` keyed by event id (desktop `pendingEvents`, mobile
`_pendingEvents`), so nothing settled — and `handle_text_message`
returns early, so no `OK` ever followed either. The send **could not
fail**; it could only time out at `PUBLISH_TIMEOUT_MS` = 25s. That
explains how this rejection mechanism can produce a roughly 25-second
timeout; attributing the original report to it still requires the actual
startup/send workflow.
The handler-semaphore saturation path had the identical defect, and that
one needs no quota burst to fire.
**Solution:** NIP-01 gives each request type its own acknowledgement
channel, and a rejection is only actionable on the same one. Reject a
REQ with `CLOSED`, an EVENT with `OK(id, false, reason)`, and fall back
to `NOTICE` only where no per-request correlation exists. COUNT refusals
now also use `CLOSED(query_id, reason)` per NIP-45, covering both quota
admission and handler saturation (added in
`cd12c93804b87a24b61075dfd171dc471a0a527f`).
Reason strings are unchanged, so the `rate-limited:` prefix and `retry
in {N}s` hint that existing client gates parse keep working (desktop
`parseRateLimitHint`, mobile `RelayRateLimitGate`, buzz-acp
`set_rate_limit_gate`). Only the frame *type* changes, so
`docs/multi-tenant-relay.md` L7 stays satisfied.
Two notes on how this landed, both worth a reviewer's attention:
1. **A survived mutation became a design change.**
`send_admission_result` originally took a `RejectionTarget` parameter,
and reverting the *second* call site (the per-minute message quota)
survived the whole suite — with Redis unreachable the first quota check
short-circuits, so that line is unreachable in test. Rather than test
around it, the parameter is gone: the target is derived from the frame,
so no call site can name the wrong channel.
2. **The relay fix would have caused a client regression on its own.**
Gate arming lived only in the NOTICE branch. Once rejections arrive as
`OK:false`, `handleOk` failed the send without ever backing off — the
client would retry straight into the same quota. Desktop and Mobile now
arm on a `rate-limited:` OK rejection. ACP was subsequently fixed in
`3b06dd32493596ec650f20abf8805791c50fdc24`: it arms the gate and
re-parks only the refused observer frame, preserving other in-flight
frames. Desktop gets `activateRateLimitIfSignalled` as the single owner
of that prefix test, called from both `handleOk` and the NOTICE branch.
<details>
<summary>File changes</summary>
**crates/buzz-relay/src/rejection.rs** (new)
Owns the admission-rejection concern: `RejectionTarget`,
`rejection_target_for`, `request_rejection_message`,
`send_admission_result`, and `enforce_ws_admission`, moved out of
`connection.rs`. Six tests, two of which drive the real
`enforce_ws_admission` against a real `AppState`.
**crates/buzz-relay/src/connection.rs**
Fix the EVENT handler-semaphore rejection to correlate to the event id;
delegate admission to the new module. Add two tests that drive the real
`handle_text_message` with every handler permit held. Down from 1319 to
1116 lines.
**crates/buzz-relay/src/state.rs**
Widen the existing `test_state` helper to `pub(crate)` so the rejection
tests reuse it rather than adding a ninth copy of `AppState`
construction.
**desktop/src/shared/api/relayRateLimitGate.ts**
Add `activateRateLimitIfSignalled` — one owner for the `rate-limited:`
prefix test, since three inbound frame types now carry it.
**desktop/src/shared/api/relayClientSession.ts**
Arm the gate on a rate-limited OK rejection; route the NOTICE branch
through the same helper. Net zero lines, which keeps this
already-oversized file within the differential ratchet.
**desktop/src/shared/api/relayClientPublishRejection.test.mjs** (new)
Four tests against the real `RelayClient`: a rate-limited OK settles the
pending publish and arms the gate; an ordinary rejection does not arm
it; an accepted OK still resolves.
**mobile/lib/shared/relay/relay_session.dart**
Arm the gate in `_handleOk` for a rate-limited rejection.
**mobile/test/shared/relay/relay_session_test.dart**
Two tests driving the real `publish` + `debugHandleMessage` path.
</details>
<details>
<summary>Validation</summary>
**Mutation-tested — 5 mutations, all now killed.** Each production call
site was reverted to the defective behaviour to confirm a test fails.
This caught two false-negative tests:
| # | Mutation | Result |
|---|----------|--------|
| 1 | `rejection_target_for`: EVENT → `Connection` | 4 tests fail |
| 2 | EVENT handler-semaphore call site → bare NOTICE | **survived at
first** |
| 3 | per-minute quota call site → `Connection` | **survived**; fixed by
removing the parameter |
| 4 | desktop `handleOk` gate arming removed | 1 test fails |
| 5 | mobile `_handleOk` gate arming removed | 1 test fails |
Mutation 2 is the lesson: my first saturation test called
`request_rejection_message` directly, so reverting the real call site
inside the `match` arm left it green. It now drives
`handle_text_message` itself and dies on that mutation.
- `cargo test -p buzz-relay` — 928 passed, 1 failed:
`api::mesh_demo::tests::demo_join_forwarded_arm_round_trips_echo`,
**pre-existing**, reproduced with all changes stashed at `4dd4d73de`.
- `cd desktop && npm test` — 5721 passed, 0 failed (full suite).
- `cd mobile && flutter test` — 1876 passed, 0 failed (full suite).
- `just fmt-check`, `just clippy`, `just desktop-check`, `just
mobile-check`, `just file-size-check` — clean. Desktop's 5 biome
warnings are pre-existing (reproduced with changes stashed).
- All 9 pre-push lanes green, including `rust-tests` and
`desktop-tauri-checks`.
**Not verified:** not reproduced end-to-end against a live relay under a
forced quota burst. The causal chain is source-proven and
mutation-proven at the frame level; the ~25s attribution follows from
`PUBLISH_TIMEOUT_MS` but is not directly measured. A packaged-build
click-through would close that gap.

## Current review disposition (2026-08-28)
The [review on
`cd12c938`](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6961#pullrequestreview-5052902510)
identified ACP's missing rate-limited-OK handling. Commit
`3b06dd32493596ec650f20abf8805791c50fdc24` fixes gate arming, re-parking
the specifically refused observer frame, and the stale NOTICE comment.
Two regressions drive the real frame dispatcher. See [the implementation
and validation
response](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6961#issuecomment-5455032054).
The Mobile generation-check inline thread is resolved: its `async
publish` returns a failed Future when superseded; it does not throw
synchronously at invocation. No further production change was indicated
by that comment.
The validation counts above describe the original slice, not a new
rerun. At `3b06dd324`, the current GitHub check rollup has successful
completed test/build checks (non-applicable jobs skipped). The
security-review comment still requires review for the current base/head
range; do not read a green authorization job as a completed security
review. Approval and merge remain human decisions.

refactor(db): extract domain stores from database runtime (#6987)
## Summary Finish the remaining database-store extraction tracked by [TheSentinel454/buzz#2](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/2) in one reviewable PR. This consolidates the previously stacked domain slices after #6782 merged. It preserves the runtime/store boundary established by #6660, #6668, #6700, and #6782 while separating database runtime infrastructure from domain-owned persistence: - `runtime/` owns pool construction and sizing, writer/reader routing, read sessions and route proofs, transaction infrastructure, observability primitives, replica fencing, health support, migrations, and cross-cutting runtime tests. - `store/` owns domain records, SQL, row parsing, locks and invariants, `Db` domain methods, focused tests, and logical-operation datastore spans. - `lib.rs` remains a 57-line compatibility facade that preserves existing crate-root paths and `Db` method signatures through re-exports. Domain coverage includes API tokens, authentication allowlists, reminders, event queries, threads, reactions, feeds, users and DMs, push, workflows/runs/approvals, relay membership and invites, product feedback, moderation/admin moderation, relay admin actions/operators, git repositories, archived identities, usage, partition maintenance, deletion, channel membership inherited from merged #6782, and the final runtime/store layout. The branch has been rebased onto current `main`. Database changes that landed there were incorporated rather than overwritten: `relay_admin_actions.rs` and `relay_operators.rs` now live under `store/`, their 27 public `Db` wrappers and existing behavior remain intact, and every wrapper has exactly one fixed-name datastore span. Concurrent changes to migration, moderation, admin moderation, and error handling are also retained. ### Exact base and head - Base: `main` at `ed11c8d8bf0a17402be5cf243724f89471530d2f` - Head: `codex/issue-2-store-extraction` at `be24430472d1a87ac5c0d6026c620cd6caea3537` ### Related issue - Structural tracker: [TheSentinel454/buzz#2](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/2) - Domain trackers: [#6](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/6), [#7](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/7), [#12](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/12), [#13](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/13) - Acceptance trackers: [#17](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/17), [#19](https://github.com/TheSentinel454/buzz/issues/19) This supersedes #6783, #6784, #6787, #6788, #6789, #6792, #6820, #6794, #6796, #6797, #6798, #6799, #6804, #6805, #6806, #6808, #6809, #6811, #6812, #6813, #6814, #6815, and #6890. Their discussions remain available for review history. ### #17 / #19 acceptance - Preserves the metric names, fixed labels, transaction/lock timing boundaries, and privacy/cardinality constraints introduced by #6700. - Keeps exactly one datastore span per public logical operation, including the 27 relay-admin wrappers added on `main`. - Removes `store_ownership.rs`; physical ownership and focused source guards now enforce the boundary directly. - Leaves no `impl Db`, domain SQL, focused domain test group, or datastore span in `lib.rs`. - Preserves existing public paths such as `buzz_db::channel`, `buzz_db::event`, and `buzz_db::workflow` through crate-root re-exports while keeping internal `runtime` and `store` namespaces private. ### Non-goals - No SQL, schema, locking, transaction, retry, timeout, or client-visible behavior changes. - No generic store traits, domain handles, broad `PgExecutor` migration, new store crate, raw pool accessor, or broader directory reorganization. - No tracker issues are closed by this PR. ### Risk The cumulative diff is large but structural. Risk is primarily module-path, ownership, or conflict-resolution drift. It is mitigated by preserving public re-exports, comparing the newly moved `main` implementations to their upstream source, source guards, touched-crate compilation, PostgreSQL-backed test coverage, and an independent exact-head review on a separate clean Blox workstation. ### Testing Author workstation `buzz-tornquist-pr-6987-rebase`, rebased branch ending at exact head `be24430472d1a87ac5c0d6026c620cd6caea3537`: - `cargo fmt --all --check` - `cargo clippy -p buzz-db -p buzz-relay --all-targets -- -D warnings` - `cargo test -p buzz-db --lib` — 113 passed, 240 PostgreSQL tests intentionally ignored - `cargo test -p buzz-db --test observability_source` — 2 passed - PostgreSQL-backed `buzz-db` coverage under native PostgreSQL — 235 passed in the shared serial run; the five shared-state/config-sensitive cases passed as isolated reruns against fresh schemas, including the two owner-limit tests with their fixture's `BUZZ_MAX_COMMUNITIES_PER_OWNER=3` - `cargo test -p buzz-relay --lib -- --test-threads=1` under native PostgreSQL/Redis — 991 passed; the three current-month partition-sensitive identity-archive cases passed after provisioning the August 2026 test partition; 87 infrastructure-marked tests remained ignored - Source/diff guards — relay-admin implementation bodies match current `main`; all 27 public wrapper signatures are retained; exactly one datastore span wraps each wrapper; `lib.rs` has zero `impl Db` blocks and zero datastore spans; no duplicate top-level relay-admin modules or `store_ownership.rs`; `error.rs` matches current `main` Independent clean review workstation `buzz-tornquist-pr-6987-review`, detached at exact head `be24430472d1a87ac5c0d6026c620cd6caea3537`: - `cargo fmt --all --check` - `cargo clippy -p buzz-db -p buzz-relay --all-targets -- -D warnings` - `cargo test -p buzz-db --lib` — 113 passed, 240 ignored - `cargo test -p buzz-db --test observability_source` — 2 passed - Exact-head ownership/re-export/instrumentation audit — no remaining actionable findings --------- Signed-off-by: OpenAI Codex <codex@openai.com> Signed-off-by: tornquist <tornquist@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: OpenAI Codex <codex@openai.com> |

feat(desktop): add team sharing to community catalog (#3995)
Stack: [#5112](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/5112) → this PR Stacks on the team catalog backend PR (#5112). Contains the `desktop/**` changes that turn the add-agent surface into a single Community Catalog browsing both shared agents and shared teams. ## Owner catalog sync pipeline `usePersonaSync.ts` gains a hydration pipeline in `startPersonaSync` so a fresh device that comes online after another already published the owner's 30178 catalog head reconstructs the complete state without falsely retracting it. The owner's persona/team/managed-agent/30178/deletion history is backfilled up front (a live-only subscription gets no history — reconnect-replay's since-cursor is undefined until the first live event), then a live subscription takes over. Four properties keep a fresh sync from purging the owner's valid shared head: - **Paged backfill with a safe termination guarantee.** The relay serves each REQ newest-first and clamps `limit` to its advertised `max_limit`, so a large owner's history overflows one page — a newer 30178/30176 could return in-page while an older required 30175 constituent falls beyond it. `fetchOwnerHistoryToExhaustion` pages the full window with the `until` time cursor (the only cursor the WS REQ filter exposes; the DB `before_id` keyset is REST-only), deduping the inclusive-boundary rows. A short page terminates normally. A full page whose oldest event cannot advance the time-only cursor is a **dense boundary** — more than one page of events share one `created_at` second, which the WS filter has no `(created_at, id)` cursor to escape — and raises `PersonaHistoryDenseBoundaryError` rather than silently completing as if the history were exhausted and dropping the older constituents behind it. - **Constituents-before-catalog ordering.** Over the complete batch, `orderCatalogHeadsLast` stably defers every 30178 head past its 30175/30176 constituents. Reconciling a 30178 head before its personas hydrate makes the inbound team refresh fail member resolution and queue a dominating false tombstone; deferring the heads guarantees the constituents are all applied first, while newest-wins order within every other coordinate is untouched. - **Hydration boundary for concurrent live events.** The backfill fetch and the live subscription start concurrently into one reconcile chain. A live or replayed 30178 that arrives before the backfill reconciles its constituents would reproduce the same false-tombstone purge, so live events are buffered until the ordered backfill is dispatched and then drained in arrival order. Steady-state live events (after hydration completes) reconcile immediately. - **Explicit backfill failure policy.** A transient history-fetch rejection is retried with bounded backoff. When backfill cannot complete — retries exhausted, or a deterministic dense boundary — the pipeline enters a **degraded-live** state rather than leaving the subscription permanently inert with live events accumulating in the buffer: the hydration boundary still opens so buffered and future live events keep reconciling, but the whole catalog dependency set is dropped — the 30178 head, its 30175/30176 constituents, and any kind-5 deletion carrying a dependency-targeting `a` tag (classified by scanning *all* `a` tags, matching the backend's deletion router, which `find_map`s across every tag and routes the first signer-owned coordinate — so a malformed or foreign first `a` tag ahead of an owned 30176 cannot slip a destructive deletion through) — because backfill never fully hydrated the owner's constituents. Dropping only the 30178 head is not enough: the backend refreshes the catalog head after every team/persona save, and live delivery is newest-first, so a 30176 edit that adds a *new* member would reach the backend before that member's 30175 and falsely tombstone a witness-holding device's valid team. Holding the prior hydrated run's constituents on disk only proves the *old* revision is resolvable — it says nothing about a new member — which is why the entire dependency set is held rather than just the head. 30177 managed-agent runtime policy stays live (it drives no catalog refresh). A degraded device stays stale on team/persona edits until it self-heals on the next effect re-run (restart, or an identity/community switch) — the correct trade against destroying valid shared state. ## Data layer Relay paging, signature verification, NIP-33 head selection, and untrusted-content parsing for the kind `30178` team catalog live natively in the `fetch_team_catalog` Tauri command (`team_catalog.rs`), structurally mirroring `fetch_persona_catalog` (`persona_catalog.rs`). A catalog refresh crosses IPC once and never verifies a signature on the webview thread. `teamCatalogRelay.ts` is now a thin presentation and local-linkage layer over the verified projection — it shapes entries for display and links each to a local team, and never parses or verifies. Parsing is all-or-nothing, identical to the add-time re-fetch in `add_team_from_catalog`: a team with any invalid member fails to parse and the publication is dropped from the catalog, matching persona behavior. **Behavior delta:** the previously reviewed partial-render of invalid-member teams — a warning banner on an entry that could never be added — is removed. Invalid publications are dropped entirely rather than surfaced as un-addable. ## Hooks `useTeamCatalogRelay.ts` mirrors the persona catalog hook: a community-keyed query over `fetch_team_catalog`, live invalidation on kind `30178`, share/unshare, and add-from-catalog (which invalidates both the teams and personas stores, since adopting a team copies its members as local personas). ## CommunityCatalogDialog Single unified surface replacing the former separate dialogs. Agents and Teams appear as labeled sections with type-tagged selection and a teams-preferred launch. `TeamsSection`'s discover entry and the new-agent card both open this one dialog. `PersonaCatalogDialog.tsx` is removed; persona browsing now lives inside the unified dialog. ## TeamShareDialog Publishes and unshares team catalog entries via `set_team_shared`. ## e2e + screenshots `team-catalog.spec.ts` covers the browse + adopt flow; `team-catalog-screenshots.spec.ts` produces the pixel-regression set. `e2eBridge.ts` gains `mockTeamCatalogPublications`, which mirrors the native command's head selection and shared gate and performs only a shallow `v`/`name`/`members`-array shape check; per-member validation stays in the Rust command. ## Follow-ups None. The shared agent-definition text-safety policy (Unicode-control/bidi/zero-width rejection) already covers the team surface: #5112's `validate_team_catalog_content` chokepoint gates every field delivered verbatim to the harness on both the publish and adopt paths, and this PR's parse layer consumes that verified projection rather than re-validating on the webview thread. perf(desktop): restore project context during startup (#6939)
## Summary Project channels previously appeared as ordinary channels until the community-wide project enumeration completed, delaying the contextual right rail most noticeably on larger relays. - Restore the last fully validated, relay-and-identity-scoped project collection immediately while keeping live relay data authoritative. - Resolve the active channel's project home through scoped `#buzz-channel` queries instead of waiting for the complete project scan. - Keep snapshots aligned with community removal and relay reconnect invalidation. ### Related issue None found. ### Testing - Pre-push `file-size-check`, `desktop-check`, `desktop-typecheck`, and `desktop-test` - Project enumeration, snapshot persistence, and relay invalidation unit coverage - Targeted Playwright scenario: project sidebar rows open the home channel and nest extra channels No numeric startup benchmark was captured; this draft validates the cache and scoped-query behavior while leaving timing measurement for review. --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> |

feat(agent): discover Databricks Unity Catalog models (#6918)
## Summary Add Unity Catalog model-service discovery to `buzz-agent` Databricks v2, preserve full Unity Catalog FQNs through ACP model discovery, route model services through MLflow chat, and add the optional `DATABRICKS_MODEL_FILTER` visibility filter. The resilience follow-up bounds each catalog attempt across headers, bounded body reads, and JSON parsing; retries transient 499/5xx, transport/body failures, malformed JSON, and attempt timeouts; and emits only safe catalog/status diagnostics. ## Validation The live validation and test gates below were run on the pre-rewrite tip `1cf6c66e7c5bf9a00c357bda24df48e3beeb310b`. The rewritten tip `0364cf44f3eb5cfbd5771b0a0dd7868ce0ad2c19` has identical trees for both commits, so the attribution rewrite changes no tested code. - 31 catalog tests passed - 19 Databricks OAuth/routing integration tests passed - `cargo check -p buzz-agent` passed - `cargo clippy -p buzz-agent --all-targets -- -D warnings` passed - `cargo fmt --check` passed - `git diff --check` passed - Desktop Tauri validation passed through the repository-supported setup path, including 2,777 library tests and auxiliary terminal suites The full `buzz-agent` package has one separately reproduced pre-existing failure: `regressions::cancel_kills_inflight_tool_via_mcp_notification`, failing on both baseline `eb8e97cfe` and the follow-up worktree. No Databricks path reaches that test. The live validation proves discovery and ACP exposure, not inference against every listed model. --------- Signed-off-by: Kalvin Chau <kalvin@block.xyz> Signed-off-by: am <6e30cd56c30e030cd31bb0939b94a7c257c9a09d5ba2d92cf2735da45629f248@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: am <6e30cd56c30e030cd31bb0939b94a7c257c9a09d5ba2d92cf2735da45629f248@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(client): resurface hidden DMs from live activity (#6885)
## Summary Hiding a DM row and then receiving a new message from that person never brought the row back — the reader was left with only an Inbox notification. This restores the row from live activity, client-side, with no relay or database changes. - Subscribe to hidden-DM activity **channel-scoped** over the hidden-DM id set (`#h`), re-registering whenever the set changes. The relay's `fan_out_scoped` only routes channel-scoped events (every kind:9 DM carries a `channel_id`) to channel-scoped subscriptions, so a community-global `#p` filter receives nothing. Hiding a DM never drops membership, so `#h` authorization holds. Because every delivered event is already for a hidden DM the reader belongs to, eligibility no longer needs a self `p` tag — untagged CLI/agent DMs resurface too — and no per-event visibility fetch is required. - On qualifying activity, invoke the existing open-DM action (`41010`) to reopen the hidden one-to-one or group DM, validating that the relay reopened the same channel. - Preserve the existing relay-synced hide snapshot (`41012` → `30622`); hide state still syncs across devices. - Let Inbox reopen a hidden DM before navigating to its message, with a busy state on the row and context-menu "Open in channel" action while a reopen is pending. - Coalesce resurface attempts per channel: a concurrent message that arrives while a reopen is in flight triggers a retry on failure instead of being marked handled and dropped. - Write exact dm-visibility query keys on open/hide mutations. This is the client-only replacement agreed in the Buzz design thread and supersedes #6713. The accepted limitation is that resurface only fires while a client is running — a message that arrives while all clients are closed does not restore the row on next launch (the `30622` snapshot has no watermark); Inbox click-through is the safety net for that case. fix(desktop): accent-colored mention badges that count thread mentions (#6900)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Sidebar mention numerals now match the user's theme/accent color and appear for mentions inside threads, not just top-level channel messages. Hover-to-preview on channel rows is unchanged. **Problem:** Follow-ups to #6696: 1. The mention numeral used a fixed red `--notification` token that ignored the user's theme and accent selection. 2. The numeral read `appBadgeCount`, which deliberately excludes threaded replies (Home's badge subtotal counts those toward the Dock badge). Mentions inside threads therefore never surfaced a numeral on the channel row — only the generic thread-activity dot. **Solution:** 1. The badge now reuses the primary accent pair (`bg-primary` / `text-primary-foreground`), the same treatment as the DM count badge, so it follows whatever accent the user applies — including the pinned neutral accent of the Buzz themes. The now-unused `--notification` tokens and Tailwind utilities are removed. 2. Non-DM rows now count every unread mention/broadcast — threaded or top-level — via a new `highPriorityCount` channel projection, replacing the boolean `highPriorityUnread` across the TS contract, the Tauri SQLite store, the e2e mock bridge, and the native test rig. The Dock/app badge projection (`appBadgeCount`) is unchanged, so Dock totals do not double-count thread activity that Home already counts. The hover-to-preview channel activity popover is untouched; e2e coverage now pins the combination (thread mention → numeral, no dot, popover still opens and lists the mentioning reply). <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/channels/useUnreadChannels.ts** Non-DM sidebar counts switch from `appBadgeCount` to the mention/broadcast-inclusive `highPriorityCount`; the high-priority channel set derives from the same count. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/SidebarSection.tsx** Badge drops the fixed notification classes and inherits the accent-following default. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/theme.css / desktop/tailwind.config.js** Remove the unused fixed `--notification` tokens and semantic utilities. **desktop/src/shared/api/tauriObservedUnread.ts / desktop/src-tauri/src/observed_unread.rs** Projection contract: `highPriorityUnread: bool` → `highPriorityCount: u64`, aggregated per unread high-priority event. **desktop/src/testing/e2eBridge.ts / desktop/src/features/channels/observedUnreadNativeRig.mjs** Mock/native-rig projections mirror the new count field. **desktop/src/features/channels/observedUnreadNative.test.mjs** Native badge-lane test seeds a high-priority event to match the numeral's new semantics. **desktop/tests/e2e/badge.spec.ts** Top-level mention test now asserts the badge equals the applied accent (seeded `#22c55e` under an adversarial theme). New test: in-thread mention shows the numeral, no dot, and the hover preview popover still lists the mentioning reply. **desktop/tests/e2e/channel-activity-popover.spec.ts / desktop/tests/e2e/thread-unread.spec.ts** Seeded fixtures that mention the user now expect the numeral (which subsumes the dot). </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Pick any theme + accent color in Settings → Appearance. 2. Receive a top-level message mentioning you in an inactive channel → the row shows a numeral pill in your accent color. 3. Receive a reply **inside a thread** that mentions you in an inactive channel → the row shows the numeral (previously only a dot). 4. Hover the row → the channel activity preview still opens and lists the mentioning reply. 5. Switch accents/themes → the pill re-colors accordingly; the Dock badge count is unchanged from before. ## Verification - `tsc --noEmit`, Biome, `check:px-text` — clean - Desktop unit tests: 179/179 channel-suite; full suite has one pre-existing failure from #6590 (`useRetainedProjectGitViews.test.mjs` loader error, fails on clean `main`) - Tauri Rust: `observed_unread` tests + clippy + fmt — clean - Playwright smoke: badge (19), channel-activity-popover (10), thread-unread (13), plus channels/inbox/stream/messaging/mentions suites — all green ## Screenshots Screenshots are posted in the PR discussion using immutable repository-hosted image URLs. Apply access policy when reusing channel agents (#6838)
Reused managed identities now apply their intended inbound-author policy before attachment or startup. An explicit policy wins, then the linked persona policy, then `owner-only`. This covers both channel-agent provisioning and the direct composer autocomplete path. If the policy update fails, attachment, startup, and message send stop. The production Playwright regression starts with a persona-linked agent set to `anyone` with a stale allowlist, then verifies the update happens before membership and startup and that the stored policy is `owner-only`. A small resolver test covers explicit, persona, and default precedence. This closes the stale-policy entry described by [Project Loupe issue #497](https://github.com/project-loupe/audit-buzz/issues/497). The separate Welcome Team reuse path is outside this PR. Checked with the 5,502-test desktop suite, `pnpm check`, `pnpm typecheck`, `pnpm check:file-sizes`, and the focused Playwright composer regression. --------- Signed-off-by: Jordan Mecom <jm@squareup.com> |

feat(projects): add agent and CLI project-home support (#6590)
## Summary - inject bounded project-home identity and repository context into managed agent sessions - add project-aware CLI flows for creating projects, repositories, issues, and related channels - match project homes through the existing relay query surface, then filter channel metadata client-side This is Part 1 of the channel-first Projects stack. Part 2 contains project creation and model foundations. ## Testing - `cargo fmt --all -- --check` - `cargo clippy -p buzz-cli -p buzz-acp --all-targets -- -D warnings` - `cargo test -p buzz-cli -p buzz-acp` — 1,184 tests passed, 1 doc test ignored - full pre-push gate passed ## Post-Deploy Monitoring & Validation - validate project-home agent context and project-aware CLI commands against a staging relay - healthy signals: project context matches the active channel, explicit repo coordinates remain stable, and normal channels receive no project block - failure signals: cross-channel project context, duplicate project creation, or commands targeting an unrelated repository; mitigate by reverting this PR --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Wrench <0eabe6ea5758c1e4c5b68cea4ac42b32c479072883cb28da8110b4a47c32b9a1@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Wrench <0eabe6ea5758c1e4c5b68cea4ac42b32c479072883cb28da8110b4a47c32b9a1@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): emit singular mention feed category so alerts route correctly (#6665)
## Problem Mentions — and thread replies that @-mention you — played the **Needs action** sound instead of the **@Mentions** sound. Reported by @morgmart: "I set Needs action to a different sound and it's the only one I ever hear." ## Root cause Two vocabularies got conflated in #475: - **Section / filter vocabulary** (plural): `mentions`, `needs_action`, `activity`, `agent_activity` — the shape of `FeedSections`, the `--types` filter, and the agent-facing CLI docs. - **Per-item category vocabulary** (singular for mention): `mention`, `needs_action`, `activity`, `agent_activity` — the `FeedItemCategory` contract in `desktop/src/shared/api/types.ts`, unchanged since #12. The Tauri feed builder reused the filter string `"mentions"` as each mention item's `category`. Only one word differs between the vocabularies, so only mentions broke. Every frontend consumer compares against the singular, so real mentions never matched and fell through to the resolver's `needs_action` fallback. The E2E mock bridge emits the singular form, so tests never saw the drift. ### Symptoms this fixes (all from the one mislabel) - Mentions and mentioning thread replies played the Needs-action sound - Mention notifications used the Needs-action title format - Mentions in muted channels were suppressed (the mute-bypass never fired) - Inbox / Home feed labelled mentions "Channel update" - Channel activity popover's mentions list was always empty ## Fix **Fix the owner, not the symptoms.** `FeedItemInfo.category` becomes a `FeedItemCategory` enum whose serde form is exactly the TS union, so a misspelled category can't compile at the producer. A serialization test pins each variant to its wire string. **Frontend:** `slotForFeedKind` maps every known category explicitly. The `needs_action` fallback for unknown categories is **kept on purpose** — a contract drift should cost the user the wrong sound, not a missed alert — but it now `console.warn`s so the drift is visible to developers instead of masquerading as intended behavior. `e2eBridge.ts` and `tauri.ts` now derive the category type from `types.ts` instead of retyping it. Not touched: the plural `--types` filter and `FeedSections` keys. Those are the section vocabulary and are correct as-is. ## Verification - `just ci` green (file-size ratchet, Rust/Tauri/desktop/mobile tests, desktop + web builds) - New tests: 2 Rust (`feed_item_category_serializes_to_frontend_contract`, `feed_item_from_event_carries_singular_mention_category`), 3 TS in `sound.test.mjs` incl. one that feeds the old `"mentions"` string and asserts fallback + warning - **Runtime, dev build against the production relay:** controlled test from an agent identity into a test channel — - mention in channel → @Mentions sound, inbox shows "Mentioned in" ✅ (was Needs-action) - thread reply with mention → @Mentions sound, once ✅ (was Needs-action) - plain thread reply in the channel being viewed → silent, as designed ✅ ## Reviewers - @tlongwell-block — #475 introduced the plural category; please confirm it wasn't intentional - @wesbillman — owner of the original `FeedItemCategory` contract (#12) and most of the feed builder - @taylorkmho — owner of the sound-slot model and resolver (#968); the fallback-with-warning shape is the part to weigh in on - cc @klopez4212 --------- Signed-off-by: morgmart <98432065+morgmart@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> |

perf(desktop): persist channel heads, collapse thread reads and reply sends (#6572)
## Summary
Lands the build-now items from the desktop latency plan
(#ui-performance-deep-dive) as one change. Every perceived-latency hot
path a user hits on launch, channel open, thread open, and reply send
drops one or more round trips.
**A1 — persisted channel heads (the big one).** Native WAL SQLite cache
(`desktop/src-tauri/src/channel_head_cache.rs`) keyed by `{pubkey,
relayUrl}` scope, 32 rows/scope LRU, 1 MiB per-row drop cap,
schema-version reset, corrupt-row tolerance, checkpointed on shutdown.
Three blocking-pool commands: `channel_head_cache_load` / `_store` /
`_clear`. On the renderer side, `CommunityQueryProvider` kicks off
hydration of up to 12 heads when it constructs the query client — the
app, splash and relay preconnect mount immediately; only
`useChannelMessagesQuery` awaits the seed (`channelHeadHydration`), then
consumes a one-shot hydrated gate so a hydrated channel pays **zero**
`get_channel_window` calls on mount and exactly **one** on the
post-subscription refresh, whose response replaces page zero wholesale.
That refresh fires whether live-subscription setup succeeds or fails,
and is sequenced behind hydration so it is always a distinct
authoritative fetch (see Review follow-ups). Bounds-only persisted heads
(zero rows) are not hydrated and take the cold loading path. The
timeline loading latch recognizes native-hydrated rows as restart-safe
so they paint immediately instead of holding a skeleton. The cache is a
paint accelerator only — the relay response is always authoritative.
Replaces the legacy localStorage `messageSnapshot.ts` (removed, -401
lines).
Kill switch: `VITE_BUZZ_CHANNEL_HEAD_CACHE=off` at build time or
`localStorage["buzz-channel-head-cache"] = "off"` at runtime. Cache is
cleared on community removal and scoped per identity, so a replaced
signer never sees the previous identity's rows.
**B1 — thread aux in one response.** Relay thread filters accept
`include_aux`; the bridge appends the same authorized two-hop
reactions/edits/deletions closure a channel window gets
(`build_aux_query` shared with the window path). Renderer
`useThreadReplies` drops its two follow-up aux fetches. `next_cursor` is
computed from reply-kind rows only since aux rows are unpaged.
Documented in `docs/bridge-channel-window.md`. Thread queries keep
`staleTime: 0` (`bcfe04e2f`): an earlier revision raised it to 30s,
which CI's `thread-unread.spec.ts` caught — once the user leaves a
channel, the live subscription stops feeding that thread's cache, so a
reopen must always take the (now single) authoritative read.
**B2 — cached root on reply send.** `send_channel_message` gains
`root_event_id`; when the renderer already holds the parent (channel or
thread cache) it passes the NIP-10 root, and native signs without the
relay round trip that `resolve_thread_ref` used to make. Strict hex
parse; `root_event_id` requires `parent_event_id`; absent root falls
back to the existing relay resolution. The renderer never sends a
guessed root.
**B4** general HTTP pool idle 10s→300s, max idle per host 1→2. **B5**
relay preconnect fires as soon as identity is ready instead of waiting
for `requestIdleCallback`. One e2e test (`relay-reconnect.spec.ts`
"service restart close resets accumulated backoff") had been relying on
the idle-callback batching to skip past its own seeded dial failures
before the channel list painted; `8133d70bb` makes it wait for the
connected state instead (test-only, still fails with the 1012 backoff
reset disabled). **B6** profile freshness 60s→10 min (both the in-memory
entry check and the query `staleTime`). Tradeoff: another user's
display-name/avatar edit can take up to 10 min to propagate to a client
that already holds their profile (relay reconnect refetches
`users-batch` but resolves from the still-fresh per-pubkey entry); your
own edits still evict the entry immediately (`evictUsersBatchEntries` in
`useUpdateProfileMutation`).

### Review follow-ups
Addressing Carl's reviews
[5001114109](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6572#pullrequestreview-5001114109)
and
[5002596542](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6572#pullrequestreview-5002596542),
each pushed as new commits (no rebase):
- `4f06b7770` fix(desktop): mount app while channel heads hydrate;
always revalidate — provider no longer gates children on the cache load;
`refreshAfterSubscribe` runs on subscribe failure too; bounds-only heads
skipped at seed; seed merges into an existing window store. +3 tests.
- `35834cb31` fix(relay): drain aux closure hops across the page clamp —
`query_all_pages` walks the `(created_at, id)` keyset via
`until`/`before_id` until a short page (`AUX_PAGE_LIMIT` =
`DEFAULT_MAX_PAGE_LIMIT`, `AUX_MAX_PAGES` = 64 warn+truncate) so
one-shot `limit: 1000` newest-first no longer drops the oldest
edits/deletions. +3 tests; `docs/bridge-channel-window.md` updated.
- `db21b0531` merge of `origin/main` `e23632941` (#6558, #6312 — no
overlap).
- `5a5566c0f` fix(desktop): sequence post-subscribe refresh behind
channel head hydration — `refreshChannelWindowMessages` awaits
`channelHeadHydration()` and, for a hydration-seeded query (`data !==
undefined && dataUpdatedAt === 0`), the in-flight snapshot fetch before
invalidating. Without this, a subscription that settles before the
SQLite load invalidated a data-less in-flight query; TanStack dedupes
that onto the existing fetch (`query-core` `fetch()` only cancels when
`state.data` exists), which returned the seeded snapshot — 0
authoritative fetches. Regression test reproduces Carl's exact ordering
(fails at `35834cb31` with 0 calls), plus a cold-channel guard that the
fix does not double-fetch.
- `b129231c8` fix(desktop): let concurrent post-hydration refreshes
share one window fetch — found independently by Max and Wren reviewing
`5a5566c0f`: subscribe settlement + reconnect both wake on the same
snapshot promise and both invalidate; the second (default
`cancelRefetch: true`) cancelled and replaced the first authoritative
fetch (3 queryFn calls, not 2, and the cancelled Tauri invoke still hits
the relay). The seeded branch now invalidates with `cancelRefetch:
false` so a second waker joins the in-flight fetch; cold/warm keep the
default (`test_canceled_stale_fetch_cannot_overwrite_catch_up_window`
relies on it). Concurrent regression test fails at `5a5566c0f` with 3.

perf(desktop): stop the Projects fan refetching on re-entry and running after leave (#6458)
Entering Projects fires a large fan: an exhaustive paginated relay enumeration (projects/repos/tombstones), five 2,000-event work-item queries plus assignment-operation scans, per-repo activity summaries, and a local-repository filesystem scan. Measured on a large community (101 issues / 258 PRs): | query | measured cost | |---|---| | work-items (5 × 2,000-event REQs + assignment scans) | 3.5–3.9s | | activity summaries | 4.1s | | repository activity | 1.0–2.2s | | local repository scan | 1.7s | Two lifecycle bugs made the fan far more expensive than it needs to be: - **Freshness windows guaranteed a full refetch on nearly every re-entry** (60s enumeration, 30s work-items/activity, 10s local scan) — i.e., the costs above were re-paid on almost every visit. Every local write path already invalidates its keys explicitly (issue/PR mutations, project creation, repo sync), so the short windows only served remote-actor freshness. Raised to 5m/2m/2m with a 30m enumeration cache: re-entries now paint from cache, and the fan re-runs at most every 2–5 minutes. - **Leaving Projects left the whole fan running**, competing with the next surface's channel fetches on the same relay connection. AbortSignal is now threaded through the enumeration and assignment pagination loops (optional params — behavior identical without a signal), and leaving the surface cancels the work-items query. Deliberately NOT cancelled: the enumeration (the always-mounted sidebar projects section observes it and its 30m cache is valuable), repo snapshots and local scans (native work that can't abort — cancelling would discard the finished result and force the same clones again), and activity summaries (a single bounded request). Abort behavior is covered by red-first unit tests on both pagination loops. Remaining follow-up (out of scope): the queries themselves want a relay-side aggregate instead of shipping thousands of events to compute counts client-side. --------- Signed-off-by: Max Lampert <maxwell@squareup.com> |

perf(desktop): split discover_acp_providers into cheap and forced paths (#6330)
Splits the `discover_acp_providers` Tauri command into a cheap cached path and an explicit forced re-discovery path. The profiling flight-recorder identified `discover_acp_providers` as the acute UI-freeze correlate: a 20–65s probe pipeline (PATH re-fetch, CLI auth probes, process spawns) was running on routine renders like channel switches, because hot surfaces remounted the wrapping query and automatic staleness refetches re-ran the full pipeline. This is complementary to the idle auto-reload (#5588) and bounded-accumulator (#5596) work. ## Backend - Added a `force` parameter to `discover_acp_providers` / `discover_acp_runtimes_from`. The default (cheap) path serves cached availability and auth statuses with zero process spawns; `force: true` runs the full pipeline (cache clear, PATH re-fetch, CLI auth probes). - Added a single-flight coalescer (`forced_single_flight`) so concurrent forced runs share one probe instead of stacking. - Extracted the auth-status cache and `resolve_auth_statuses` into `discovery/auth_status_cache.rs`. ## Renderer - Raised `staleTime` to 30 min; forced refresh flows only through an explicit `fetchQuery` path (`refreshAcpRuntimes`), so automatic staleness refetches can never re-run probes. - Added `useAcpRuntimesQueryForced` for Settings and onboarding surfaces; connect/install/save/delete mutations force-refresh in `onSettled`. - Switched `SetupStep`, `HarnessCatalogDialog`, and `HarnessesSettingsPanel` to the forced hook. ## Structure The touched files were at or over the grandfathered 1000-line file-size ceiling, so the change is delivered as cohesive extractions rather than in-place growth: `forced_single_flight.rs`, `auth_status_cache.rs`, `discovery/tests/forced_discovery.rs`, `acpRuntimesQuery.ts`, and `tauriAcpDiscovery.ts`. Dependencies are one-directional (`hooks.ts` imports from `acpRuntimesQuery.ts` and re-exports the forced hook, so consumer imports are unchanged; no import cycle). ## Tests Added Rust tests pinning the cheap-vs-forced split: a probe is spawned only when forced, the cheap path reuses the cache, and auth status is `Unknown` before any probe runs. --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): make reconnect repair lossless (#6415)
## Summary - repair exact-channel reconnect gaps from a source-coupled 1,865-second floor (`900` seconds of relay future tolerance + `960` seconds of DB created-at floor + `5` seconds of fence margin) - page the existing authenticated `POST /query` bridge losslessly with `(until, before_id)`, including dense timestamp boundaries and an unbounded first page that does not trust the renderer clock - keep the restored live REQ unchanged while deduplicating live/repair overlap until both live EOSE and repair completion for the active connection generation ## Scope and behavior The wider repair applies only to live subscriptions containing the exact channel-event kind set and one `#h`. Profile, read-state, global, channel-less, and other subscription behavior is unchanged. Failed or stale repairs retain their pinned lower bound for the next reconnect. This intersects the replay path described in #3215, but does not claim to fix that issue. Desktop already has a bounded notification-side event-ID guard; this PR adds transport dispatch dedupe for the restored-live/repair overlap. Notification behavior should remain a focused regression check while this wider repair window rolls out. ## Testing - `cd desktop && pnpm typecheck` - `cd desktop && pnpm biome check src/shared/api/channelReconnectRepair.ts src/shared/api/relayClientSession.ts src/shared/api/relayClientShared.ts src/shared/api/relayClosedRecovery.ts src/shared/api/relayReconnectReplay.ts src/shared/api/relayReconnectReplay.test.mjs src/testing/e2eBridge.ts` - `cd desktop && node --test src/shared/api/relayReconnectReplay.test.mjs` (26 passed) - `cargo test --manifest-path desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.toml channel_reconnect_repair` (2 passed) - pre-push hooks passed at `743283439eb6be7969e19951cbb6720c5e493a04` --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <32a2e2c9d428ee08902cab75d956da2c1d235a22d4766b0dd4138bf6e2e5db1d@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop): make Projects workspaces selectable (#6368)
## Summary Projects workspaces now support consistent selection across projects, repositories, reviews, tasks, and channel results. A user can collect related entities, see the active selection without losing their current workspace, and pass a bounded, injection-safe representation to an agent for discussion. Detail views now keep repository source and availability explicit while preserving contextual actions across local and remote workspaces. Missing or inaccessible repositories produce a recoverable state instead of leaving the workspace ambiguous. This is part 2 of the Projects v6 stack. Parts 3 and 4 will add context-aware collaboration and navigation/detail-page polish. ### Related issue Related: #6335 ### Testing - Full pre-push gate passed: file-size checks, Biome, TypeScript, Desktop unit tests, Tauri checks, and Rust tests - Project context safety suite: 9/9 passed, including bounded untrusted overview data and hidden-context stripping - Updated Playwright coverage exercises grouped selection, selection-aware agent context, repository source states, and detail actions --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> |

perf(desktop): move five hot renderer paths from JS into Rust (#6024)
## Summary
Moves five hot renderer paths out of JavaScript and into Rust, targeting
main-thread CPU on the desktop app: wakeups, IPC round trips, and
per-frame JS work during reconnect storms, catch-up, and archive sync.
Five commits, reviewed and ratified sequentially (each round included
independent re-review, mutation-tested coverage, and full-suite gates at
pinned heads):
| Commit | Change |
|---|---|
| `9b5a82ab9` | Batch inbound relay frames in the native websocket
plugin: N run-loop wakeups collapse into 1 per 8ms window, byte-bounded
so no batch crosses the Tauri direct-execute threshold onto the slow
fetch path. NIP-42 AUTH bypasses the window. |
| `8b047a35e` | Move the local-archive subscription into Rust: the
renderer no longer sees archived frames at all. Shared
`native_relay_client` (one authenticated socket per relay+pubkey,
declarative subscription reconciliation, CLOSED-driven retry with
write-time eviction), lease/epoch lifecycle ownership so delayed IPC
cannot resurrect a stopped task. |
| `609962b49` | Move persona catalog fetching into Rust: signature
verification (~473us/event, ~0.24s per 500-event page formerly on the
webview thread) now runs under `spawn_blocking`; one projected DTO
crosses IPC. |
| `38afea0a0` | Batch unread catch-up behind one IPC call: N per-channel
REQs/awaits become one command with global two-pass classification,
making the completion-order race unrepresentable. Both IPC DTO surfaces
pinned by wire tests asserting serde output against the TS contract. |
| `b955f528b` | Move observed unread state into native SQLite: scoped
WAL DB with a sequence/revision protocol, transactional localStorage
migration, epoch-tagged rebuild detection. Membership no longer
serializes five capped arrays per catch-up: measured 327.4 KiB before,
0.2 KiB after at the same populated 5x1000 fixture. |
Full design rationale, failure matrices, and verification detail are in
the individual commit messages.
### Known behavior notes
- **Native migration is a one-way door per profile.** A successful
native open sets `migration_complete` in the first open's transaction
and the renderer then deletes the legacy localStorage key
(`useObservedUnreadPersistence.ts:290-294`,
`observed_unread.rs:420-442`). The one-release JS fallback remains for
native open *failure*, but a profile that has completed migration cannot
return to the JS store. Relevant if a rollback path is ever needed.
- **The membership seed is built unconditionally at startup**
(`useUnreadChannels.ts:245-250`), before any `isNative()` check. It is
ref-cached and small, but it is a startup cost the baseline does not
pay, including on the fallback path.

### Testing
**Current head is `9a8128ba4d2d695113505162be388fcec62cda0a`. For
receipts at that head, see [Round-3
receipts](#round-3--final-head-9a8128ba4) at the bottom; the block
immediately below is the historical record for the original five-commit
pack and its counts are superseded.**
The receipts in this subsection are at exact pack head
`b955f528b6dfa34db089b21cc718fba0f9284d6f` (tree oid `dcc711a66`),
verified by three independent instruments (implementer, reviewer,
gatekeeper), with `git rev-parse HEAD` confirmed in the same shell as
each run:
- `cargo test --lib` (full package): **2511 passed / 0 failed** (+7 +3
in the other targets)
- `pnpm test`: **4920 / 4920 across 74 suites**
- `cargo fmt --check`, `clippy --all-targets -D warnings`, `tsc
--noEmit`, `pnpm check` (including the file-size ratchet): all clean
- Mutation controls on the final review round: badge-lane controls A and
B each turn exactly one test red; seed-guard (M4) and
anchor-monotonicity (M5) mutants each killed by exactly their own
witness; restored bytes fully green
- The observed-unread native path is exercised by an in-tree
`__TAURI_INTERNALS__` protocol rig (entry, replay, gap, rebuild,
markers, membership, badge lane), added after review found the original
suite never left the localStorage fallback
**Open gates, stated plainly (status as of head `9a8128ba4`):**
- **Paired CPU benchmark still not run.** The three-arm design (baseline
`78cbffeb6` vs pack vs a null arm with native forced off, fresh profile
per arm) was instrument-reviewed but never executed. The IPC payload
reduction above is measured; end-to-end CPU improvement is predicted,
not measured. This gate is unchanged since `b955f528b`.
- **Live-local gate at the final head: GREEN at `9a8128ba4`.** A real
native Tauri live-local pass per `TESTING.md` was run at this exact
head. Receipts:
`.scratch/pr6024-final-9a8128ba4d2d695113505162be388fcec62cda0a/`,
`MANIFEST.txt` `start_utc=2026-08-17T21:58:07Z`, `FINAL_ATTESTATION.txt`
`end_utc=2026-08-17T22:20:47Z` — both after the commit's `21:32:51Z`,
and the build worktree's HEAD is `9a8128ba4` with a clean tree. **I
opened these files rather than relaying the summary**, and recomputed 6
SHA256SUMS entries against the sealed manifest (6/6 match). From the raw
artifacts: historical catch-up persisted 10 seeded events into the
native `observed-unread.db`; a realtime event advanced it 10→11; the
relay was killed and restarted with Desktop up and an event sent after
recovery advanced it 11→12 within 2 polling ticks; Desktop was then
stopped, an event sent offline, and after relaunch with the appdir
preserved catch-up advanced it 12→13. `relay.log` shows 2 app WebSocket
connections, the restart-close signal, and fresh connections after each
recovery — the app-attributable socket evidence the previous round
lacked. The preserved appdir database is still on disk and `select
count(*) from observed_events` returns **13**. The ignored real-relay
archive wire test passed **1/1** at this head. This exercises the
`lib.rs` / `e2eBridge.ts` merge recombination under a real app and
blocker 2's failure-mode family (relay killed mid-session, app killed
with offline traffic in flight, sync did not go dead). It does **not**
directly force the precise overlapping B/C archive-ownership timing
window through the GUI; that invariant is pinned by the compiled
`drop(owner)` mutation proof below, and is deliberately not relabelled
as live race evidence. **Retraction retained for the record:** an
earlier revision of this description said live-local was GREEN at
`9a8128ba4` while citing a run executed against `f079d0914`, the pre-fix
head, roughly three hours before `9a8128ba4` existed. That claim was
false and was corrected before this run existed. The GREEN above rests
on the new receipts only.
- **Workspace-wide `cargo test --workspace` is red on `main`, not on
this PR.** The exact-head live run's workspace logs contain honest
`rc=101` results. All are in crates this PR does not touch: `git diff
origin/main...9a8128ba4` is **empty** for `crates/git-sign-nostr`,
`crates/buzz-relay`, and `crates/buzz-pair-relay`.
`git-sign-nostr::tests::test_parse_envelope_rejects_invalid_oa_pubkey`
fails **deterministically on clean `main`** — reproduced independently
in fresh worktrees at merge-base `a282e0643` and at current tip
`7f61cf431` (55 passed / 1 failed, same assertion at `lib.rs:2136`).
Root cause: `nostr` 0.36→0.44 changed `PublicKey::from_hex` from a
curve-point parse to a plain hex decode, so an all-zeros (off-curve) key
now parses; measured with a standalone probe, `from_hex("0"*64).is_ok()`
is `false` on 0.36.0 and `true` on 0.44.7. Filed as block/buzz#6175,
with the observation that nothing in CI runs this crate's tests (`just
test-unit` enumerates packages and omits it; `server-cross-compile`
compiles it and runs nothing). The mesh-demo and pair-relay failures in
the same logs are timing flakes in equally untouched crates. **None of
these gate this PR.**
- **Full smoke + integration: GREEN at `9a8128ba4`.** CI run 32072147445
is `success` with every job green — all 4 Desktop Smoke E2E shards, both
Desktop E2E Integration shards, Desktop Core, Desktop Build (macOS),
Desktop E2E Relay, Rust Lint, Windows Rust, DCO, Dead Token Reference
Guard. Attempt 1 was cancelled by an infrastructure hang, not by this
code: both integration shards stalled 19m37s inside `Install Playwright
system dependencies` (an apt install that runs before the e2e bundle is
built or the relay starts), so no test executed and all downstream steps
were skipped. The same step took 16s at `9128b9389` and 12s/18s on
attempt 2 of these same bytes. Attempt 2 was a job rerun, not a push;
the head is unchanged.

## Review round 2 — head `9128b9389`
Carl's review
[4953970089](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6024#pullrequestreview-4953970089)
raised two blockers against `f079d0914`. Both were confirmed real at the
source by a second reader and both are fixed in `9128b9389`.
**Blocker 1 — recovery dropped the mutation whose ingest failed.** Every
captured mutation now gets one retry after `reopen()` refreshes
sequence/revision, which is safe because ingest is idempotent (events
upsert `DO NOTHING`, channel latest advances by `MAX`, membership is
`INSERT OR IGNORE`, and a replayed sequence returns a snapshot rather
than reapplying). `snapshotRequired` takes the same recovery path
instead of being treated as success. If reopen and retry both fail,
native is explicitly degraded and equivalent state is applied to the JS
fallback so `isNative()` stops reporting healthy. Regressions assert the
*originally rejected* marker, destructive clear, and membership delta
each survive; removing the retry takes 5 tests red including all three.
**Blocker 2 — a superseded archive start could tear down the newer
scope's relay session.** `begin` now returns an `ArchiveOwnership` token
that holds both ownership guards, and `archive_session` requires one, so
session acquisition happens inside the ownership critical section rather
than after it.
### Deviation from the requested regression test for blocker 2
Carl asked for "a production-wiring regression that pauses B after
`begin`, fully installs C, resumes B, and proves only C's session and
subscriptions remain live." **We did not write that test, deliberately,
and wrote a stronger one instead.**
Under this fix that scenario is unreachable by construction. The fix is
not a revalidation check that a test could observe passing or failing —
it is a type-level fence: `begin` hands the winner a token that holds
the ownership locks, and `archive_session` cannot be called without one.
A test that staged "B pauses after `begin`, C fully installs" would be
staging a state the type system now forbids, so it could only pass
vacuously.
Two things close the blocker, and only one of them is a test:
1. *A superseded start cannot reach `archive_session` at all.* Enforced
by the compiler, not by a test. `ArchiveOwnership` is un-constructible
outside `archive::sync`. Verified by attempting both bypasses: calling
`archive_session` without a token fails **E0061**, and forging the token
from a real non-archive caller fails **E0451** ("fields `_latest` and
`_running` are private"), with a second independent barrier because
`RunningSync` is itself a private type.
2. *While an owner holds the token, no newer start can claim.* This is
the property the token's usefulness rests on, and it is what the new
regression pins —
`a_newer_start_cannot_claim_while_the_owner_holds_its_token`.
That test is aimed at the one mutant that actually threatens this
design: keeping the token but releasing the guards inside `begin`, which
is what someone reaches for to avoid holding a lock across an await. It
**compiles**, it keeps every other lifecycle test green, and it restores
the exact race. Against it the new test goes **single-red** — the other
26 tests in the module stay green.
Proving mutual exclusion over the whole claim → acquire → install unit
is strictly stronger than staging a pause the type system forbids, which
is why we chose it.
Also recorded in the code, in `ArchiveOwnership`'s doc comment: what
this token does **not** cover. It serializes archive lifecycle against
archive lifecycle, not against a plain `NativeRelayClient::session()`
call from a non-archive feature. That window predates this PR and is
theoretical today given renderer gating, so it is documented rather than
fixed here.
### Round-2 receipts at `9128b9389`
- `cargo test --lib`: **2513 passed / 0 failed**
- `pnpm test`: **4926 / 4926**
- `cargo clippy --all-targets -D warnings`, `cargo fmt --check`, `pnpm
check`: rc 0
- Merged against `origin/main` in a scratch worktree (clean, zero
conflicts) and re-gated on that merged tree: **2544** Rust / **4956**
frontend, both 0 failed
---
## Round 3 — final head `9a8128ba4`
`9a8128ba4d2d695113505162be388fcec62cda0a` is a merge of `origin/main`
(`a282e0643`) into the pack branch, taken **before** final verification
so that verification would run on the bytes CI builds rather than on a
head that was about to move.
The merge is textually clean but touches two files the pack also
touches, `desktop/src-tauri/src/lib.rs` and
`desktop/src/testing/e2eBridge.ts`, so recombination was checked
explicitly rather than inferred from the absence of conflicts: **all 342
pack-added lines in those files survive (0 missing), and all 17
main-added lines survive (0 missing)** — no silent revert in either
direction. Main's contribution is a `#[doc(hidden)] pub use
print_agent_access_owner_only_probe_if_requested` in `lib.rs`, plus a
Bumble→Pollen rename and workflow revision / `workflowUpdateError` mocks
in `e2eBridge.ts`.
### Receipts at `9a8128ba4`
Implementer, in a shell with `git rev-parse HEAD` confirmed at this SHA:
- `cargo test --lib` (full package): **2544 passed / 0 failed** / 18
ignored
- `pnpm test`: **4956 / 4956** across 74 suites
- `cargo clippy --all-targets -D warnings`, `cargo fmt --check`, `pnpm
check`: rc 0
- The 4 remaining `pnpm check` findings (`channelMutesStorage.test.mjs`,
`channelStarsStorage.test.mjs`, `terminal.css`,
`empty-edit-delete.spec.ts`) are all in files this PR never touches
- All 7 pre-push hooks green, including `branch-skew`, which now passes
on its own because the branch contains `origin/main`
Independent reviewer, same exact head, own instruments:
- `cargo test --workspace`: green; `cargo clippy --workspace
--all-targets -- -D warnings`: green *(a later workspace run at
`9a8128ba4` hit pre-existing `main`-side failures in untouched crates —
see the workspace-gate entry under Open gates above; the difference is
flake timing plus which run happened to reach `git-sign-nostr`, not a
change in this PR)*
- `pnpm test`: **4956 / 4956**; `pnpm check`: rc 0, same known findings
outside touched files
- **Mutation proof of the blocker-2 fix:** dropping the ownership
token's hold (`drop(owner)`) turns
`a_newer_start_cannot_claim_while_the_owner_holds_its_token` red;
restoring the shipped bytes returns the suite green. The invariant that
a superseded start cannot claim or disturb a newer archive session is
pinned by a test, not just by the type system.
- **Live-local at this exact head: attested and verified.** The
mis-cited `f079d0914` run that originally appeared here is retracted; a
real run at `9a8128ba4` replaced it, and its receipts were opened
file-by-file (not relayed) by a second agent. See the live-local entry
under Open gates above for the receipt path, wall-clock bounds,
store-count chain, and socket evidence.
- Verdict: minimalness **9/10**, elegance **9/10**, correctness
**9.5/10**. **Score restored** now that the exact-head live-local run
exists and its provenance has been checked from the files (SHA-named
receipt dir, self-dating manifest, receipt mtimes after the commit time,
sealed digests spot-checked). Gatekeeper re-bless at `9a8128ba4`:
**9/10, merge recommended.**
The paired CPU benchmark remains the one gate not run. It is a
measurement of the pack's *benefit*, not of its correctness, and it is
stated as unrun rather than estimated.

## Summary - Makes Projects repository-aware across browsing, branch and tag selection, local and remote source management, work items, commits, and contextual repository actions. - Refines project details into consistent single-column reading surfaces with a resizable, section-aware context pod, while keeping project conversations available in the attached chat panel. - Adds persistent sidebar project navigation, direct entity links, repository discussion channels, contributor identity matching, and consistent loading and activity presentation. - Keeps branch-specific controls on code-oriented sections while Tasks, Reviews, and Channels remain repository-scoped, reducing misleading context and actions. Replacement for #5981 with an identical final tree flattened into one signed-off commit because the required DCO check suite remained stalled. ### Related issue N/A ### Testing - [x] Desktop pre-push checks, TypeScript typecheck, and unit tests - [x] E2E production build with `pnpm build:e2e` - [x] Focused Playwright smoke coverage for project workspace, task, review, commit, sidebar, and contextual-panel behavior - [ ] Attach final before/after screenshots after design review --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Wintermute <165f0c871dd2586bb18b6aa109eeaf57bb2132ff4d27b10120f4368a0f627022@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Wintermute <165f0c871dd2586bb18b6aa109eeaf57bb2132ff4d27b10120f4368a0f627022@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): preserve early relay auth challenges (#3320)
## Summary - buffer native WebSocket frames until `plugin:websocket|connect` returns the socket ID and the NIP-42 auth waiter is installed - drain those frames in order before normal inbound handling begins - add a deterministic E2E seam and regression for an AUTH challenge delivered before connect resolves ## Root cause The native WebSocket task starts forwarding relay frames before the connect command returns its socket ID. Buzz relay sends the NIP-42 AUTH challenge immediately on connection, so Desktop could process that challenge while `wsId` and `authRequest` were still unset. The challenge was discarded, the cold connection failed authentication, and the first plain-text send failed. Channel history still appeared because it loads through the Tauri channel-window command rather than this frontend WebSocket. ## Verification - deterministic regression is red before the fix (`connecting` after 5s) and green after it - `pnpm test`: 3,721 passed - `pnpm build:e2e`: passed - focused early-AUTH E2E: passed - existing failed-initial-dial E2E: passed - `pnpm typecheck`: passed - Biome + file-size pre-commit checks: passed The complete 7-test relay-reconnect file passed once before the final line-count-only compaction. After that compaction, two full-file reruns each had the same unrelated startup-seam flake in the existing initial-dial test; both the new test and that existing test pass independently at the committed HEAD. --------- Signed-off-by: npub1jh9wn95s0472h86ahapupaf7m6kx4v9sx2n0atj2hltcfer8k06s5n3pyf <95cae996907d7cab9f5dbf43c0f53edeac6ab0b032a6feae4abfd784e467b3f5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Signed-off-by: Wren <5217c5c2f7bfb4333e46d17c98a9255a52dadee18dcd43a43536b95e6776dfa0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: npub1jh9wn95s0472h86ahapupaf7m6kx4v9sx2n0atj2hltcfer8k06s5n3pyf <95cae996907d7cab9f5dbf43c0f53edeac6ab0b032a6feae4abfd784e467b3f5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Wren <5217c5c2f7bfb4333e46d17c98a9255a52dadee18dcd43a43536b95e6776dfa0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(managed-agents): close five Claude Code agent-config gaps (#4557)
Closes five Claude Code agent-config gaps in Buzz Desktop, split into three commits that share the spawn-time and live-switch surfaces. ## Config isolation, model authority, and Auto mode (#2692, #2884, #3493) - **`CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR` isolation (#3493).** `config_bridge` resolves both `settings.json` and `.claude.json` panel paths from the agent's effective env (`resolve_effective_agent_env` — baked floor → definition → global → persona → record), so the panel reads the same directory the agent runs against. `mcp_config_file_path_for_runtime` honors a custom dir; empty/blank is treated as unset, matching Claude's `CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR || homedir()` semantics. `AgentConfigPanel` shows a Keychain caveat when a custom dir is active (a custom dir maps to a fresh Keychain namespace unless `CLAUDE_SECURESTORAGE_CONFIG_DIR` is also set). - **Single startup model authority (#2692).** `ANTHROPIC_MODEL` is the sole startup model authority for Claude. Local spawns write `ANTHROPIC_MODEL` and strip `BUZZ_ACP_MODEL` so the harness never sees two authorities; remote deploys send `ANTHROPIC_MODEL` in `policy_env` instead of `BUZZ_ACP_MODEL`. Non-Claude runtimes are unchanged. - **`PermissionMode::Auto` (#2884).** Wire string `"auto"`, model-gated, degrades to the agent default when the active model doesn't advertise it. ## Thinking effort end-to-end for local Claude agents Effort flows from the running session's discovered `thought_level` config option through the config surface to a local-only write control and a read-only two-facts display. - **Reader.** Discovers the `thought_level` config option from the session cache (never hardcoded) and populates `effort_config_id` / `effort_options` on `RuntimeConfigSurface`. The canonical effort tier orders record env > `record.effort_level` (`BuzzExplicit`) > ACP > persona > global > definition > file, so the panel shows the effort the next spawn will launch with while `resolve_with_override` surfaces the running ACP value as the struck-through override — neither masks the other silently. - **Write control.** `persist_agent_effort_level` is a direct-write Tauri setter (writes `record.effort_level` + `updated_at`, `save_managed_agents`) that rejects non-local backends — remote effort is set at deploy time via `policy_env`. `EffortPickerField` mounts in `AgentInstanceEditDialog` beside the Model block, gated on a local backend **AND** a discovered `effortConfigId`. It persists directly and invalidates the config surface, mirroring the `setManagedAgentAutoRestart` standalone-setter precedent, so the frozen `UpdateManagedAgentInput` shape stays frozen. - **Display.** The read-only configured-vs-current two-facts display is the `thinkingEffort` normalized field in `AgentConfigPanel`, fed by the reader's canonical tier ordering. - `buzz-acp` applies the startup effort env at session start. ## Distinguish a rejected model switch from silent success A live model switch collapsed adapter rejection into success: `apply_model_switch` returned `Ok` on both an accepted switch and an application-level refusal, so the caller cached pre-switch capabilities as if they described the target model and Desktop reported the pick as landed. - `ModelSwitchOutcome::{Applied(Value),Rejected}`. Transport-class errors still propagate as `Err` (respawn the poisoned stdio); an application-level refusal is now `Rejected`. - The caller drives everything off `post_switch_snapshot`: `Applied` refreshes `model_capabilities` from the target model's echoed `configOptions` (or drops to `None` when none are echoed, so a pre-switch snapshot is never mistaken for the target's); `Rejected` preserves pre-switch caps and emits a `failure` `control_result`. Effort resolution and the session-config capture read the post-switch snapshot so they converge on the model the session actually runs; `modelOverridden` is gated on `switch_succeeded`. - `liveSwitchOutcome.ts` gains a distinct `"failed"` outcome for the adapter `failure` frame and treats the busy-path `"sent"` ack as provisional — it never counts toward success. Success is confirmed only by a real positive terminal frame (the busy-path deferred apply emits a correlated `switched` `control_result` when it lands), and the fallback timeout resolves an honest `"pending"` (accepted, apply deferred), never a false `"ok"`. `ModelPicker` surfaces a distinct toast per outcome — failed, unsupported, and pending. ## Scope explicitly excluded Per-agent config dir provisioning, `CLAUDE_SECURESTORAGE_CONFIG_DIR` sentinel injection, `settings.json` projection, protected-key stripping, MCP inheritance, spawn serialization, and the `last_spawn_warnings` surface are absent from this diff. Silent-fallback machinery for non-Claude runtimes (#2265/#4004) is a tracked follow-up. ## Sanctioned follow-ups - **Live mid-conversation effort switching.** Effort is spawn-scoped only in this PR: the worker reads `BUZZ_ACP_EFFORT_LEVEL` once and applies it at session creation. The live effort-switch machinery (mid-conversation effort RPC + ack frame) was deliberately removed and is archived on `archive/claude-config-gaps-live-effort` for a future plan-gated revival. - **Idle-path late model-switch rejection is unobservable.** An idle switch acks `switched` immediately after catalog validation, but the real `set_config_option` runs at the next session creation — potentially much later — so a rejection there is not surfaced back to the picker (holding a subscription that long is not sensible). Pre-existing, catalog-gated behavior; a durable fix is a tracked follow-up. fix(desktop): bound remote agent mention authorization (#6224)
## Summary - add a targeted native `revalidate_relay_agents(pubkeys, channel_id)` command for send-time authorization - scope membership discovery to the destination channel and selected pubkeys before runtime/profile/policy queries - replace full relay-directory rebuilds with targeted checks before agent side effects and again at publication - preserve managed-agent evidence independently and retain internal owner-only filtering ## Security and trust boundary The targeted command reuses the existing authoritative chain: 1. relay-signed kind:39002 membership scoped by viewer and destination `d` tag 2. agent runtime directory event 3. agent-signed owner profile verification 4. owner-signed managed policy 5. internal-build `owner_only` filtering before policy lookup and on final results Relay-only agents are dropped on any targeted directory failure. Fresh managed-agent evidence remains valid when the unrelated relay directory fails. ## Validation - pre-push gate passed: branch skew, Desktop check/typecheck/tests, Tauri checks, Rust tests, and mobile tests - Desktop unit suite: 4,992 passed - targeted Rust relay-directory tests passed - focused Playwright mention-send acceptance passed - relay-only send emits the expected `p` tag - exactly two targeted `revalidate_relay_agents` calls on the already-member send path: pre-side-effect and pre-publication - no `list_relay_agents` call on that send path - relay failure and revocation remain fail-closed - internal owner-only mode hides other-owned agents - manual local Desktop testing by Wes: mention sends felt materially improved ## Notes This intentionally does not clear the composer early or add an optimistic timeline row. Publication still waits for fresh authorization. --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Princess Donut <68157ebd23b3897c1991015c3038658ea916200c67d3a54620b0754d1b92f6e0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(workflows): add responsive library card actions (#6008)
**Category:** improvement **User Impact:** Users can scan what each workflow does and trigger, edit, duplicate, enable, disable, or delete it directly from the library. **Problem:** The workflow list buried common actions and did not expose each automation's trigger-to-action shape at a glance. **Solution:** Add a responsive workflow library with a persistent create tile, compact trigger/action diagrams, prominent workflow titles with supporting descriptions, and shared card actions while preserving existing detail, editor, and run-history entry points. Card toggles refresh both list and open-detail caches so status and definition stay consistent. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowActionsMenu.tsx** Adds a shared card menu for trigger, edit, duplicate, enable/disable, and delete actions. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowCard.tsx** Reworks cards around the prototype's visual hierarchy: color-coded trigger, action flow, sentence-case eyebrow, prominent title, supporting description, status, channel, and update date without a footer clock icon. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowsView.tsx** Adds the responsive grid, create tile, mutation wiring, and list/detail cache invalidation. Container breakpoints keep cards two-across at medium widths and three-across in the 1280px desktop layout. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowDefinition.ts** Adds immutable enabled-state updates plus narrow trigger and first-action readers used only to select card icons. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowDefinition.test.mjs** Covers neutral icon selection, enabled-state immutability, and status presentation. **desktop/tests/e2e/workflows.spec.ts** Covers the create tile, title/description hierarchy, selected-card enable/disable consistency, and deterministic narrow/medium/wide captures while retaining existing action coverage. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open **Workflows** and confirm the create tile stays first as cards flow from one to three columns with available width. 2. Confirm each card shows a sentence-case trigger eyebrow, prominent workflow title, supporting description when present, status, channel, and update date without a clock icon. 3. Open a card's overflow menu and trigger, edit, duplicate, enable/disable, or delete the workflow. 4. Leave the detail panel open while toggling and confirm its badge and JSON definition update with the card. ## Screenshots Real built E2E UI with representative workflow data at three viewport sizes. ### Narrow — 800 × 720 ### Medium — 1024 × 720 ### Wide — 1280 × 720 ### Card actions --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> |

fix(desktop): enforce shared agent access across devices (#6086)
## Summary - discover shared managed agents from authenticated relay directory records instead of treating channel membership as sufficient proof - publish and refresh access-policy changes immediately so running clients converge across machines without a restart or five-minute poll - route profile edits through the exact managed instance and stop/restart runtimes around access changes so unrelated edits cannot silently widen access - keep mention send-time revalidation and Block owner-only build enforcement fail closed - explain invalid custom provider/model configuration instead of leaving Save silently disabled ### Related issue Fixes #3204 ### Known residuals - a brand-new remote agent's first policy record can wait for the bounded directory poll when no authenticated directory coordinate exists yet; send-time mention revalidation remains fail closed - a failed remote-provider policy redeploy is recorded but cannot undeploy the older provider instance until the provider protocol gains the destructor tracked by #5570 ### Testing - full Desktop unit suite: 4,961 tests passed - focused profile editor Playwright workflow passed, including Customize access edits and prompt-only edits after tightening an instance - Desktop TypeScript, Biome formatting, file-size ratchet, Tauri checks, and pre-push suites passed - independently reviewed for authenticated directory trust, live subscription teardown, runtime revocation ordering, fail-open edit paths, and per-agent provider deployment serialization --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Signed-off-by: Brain <21994759fc7a6fa6b965551d35cfd7897d262f2495467f2d78694ddcfa6a5c7e@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: diegorumo <diegorumo@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Brain <21994759fc7a6fa6b965551d35cfd7897d262f2495467f2d78694ddcfa6a5c7e@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

Projects v3: unify sharing, discussions, and issue ownership (#5792)
## Summary Projects v3 makes repository work shareable, discussion-aware, and easier to scan in one coherent workspace. People can copy canonical links, reopen the exact workspace tab, understand issue and pull-request context at a glance, find related channel conversations, and assign or unassign issues across Desktop and CLI. - **Unified workspace** — top-level sections sit above repository controls in one rounded workspace, with navigation positioned close to the page heading. README and Files retain branch selection; every section has a labeled icon header, and Issues and Pull Requests expose creation from a consistent right-aligned action. - **Repository management** — the repository selector is always available, including single-repository projects. Its integrated add flow lets project owners create a repository manually or select an existing repository without a separate toolbar button. - **Readable work-item lists** — issue and pull-request rows use plain-language context instead of opaque metadata. Files, commits, issues, pull requests, channels, and contributors share consistent row density and right-aligned timestamps, while deterministic fallback-avatar colors keep participants distinct on light backgrounds. Inbox pull-request metadata wraps between complete phrases and truncates long channel names instead of compressing copy into narrow columns. - **Reliable entity links** — projects, repositories, issues, pull requests, and commits have canonical `buzz://` links, preview cards, OS deep-link routing, and tab-aware navigation. Reopening the same link re-applies its destination instead of leaving the user on a locally selected tab. - **Related conversations** — repository and work-item views surface channels discussing the current entity, including participants, channel navigation, message context, and an explicit notice when discovery reaches its 500-result cap. - **Reversible issue ownership** — trusted assignment and unassignment events work across Desktop, Tauri, `buzz-sdk`, and `buzz issues`. Assignees appear in project views and the assigned inbox, while authorized users can remove assignments directly from the assignee row. Assignment state is derived chronologically from labeled Nostr notes. Issue authors and repository owners may change any assignee; other users may only assign or unassign themselves. Shared golden fixtures keep entity-link grammar and validation aligned across TypeScript and Rust. The branch also updates `webbrowser` to the patched release for RUSTSEC-2026-0257. ### Related issue N/A. ### Testing - [x] `just ci` — formatting, lint, typechecking, unit tests, and builds passed - [x] Full pre-push suite — organization, branch-skew, Desktop checks, typechecking, and tests passed on the latest push - [x] `cargo test -p buzz-cli` and focused `buzz-sdk` assignment tests passed - [x] Focused Tauri recipient-note and 500-result search-limit tests passed - [x] Desktop entity-link and issue-assignment unit tests passed - [x] Playwright smoke coverage passed for assignment, repeated entity-link navigation, repository create/select flows, section headers and actions, timestamp alignment, timeline icons, sentence-style issue/PR metadata, header spacing, avatar contrast, and Inbox metadata at stacked and side-rail breakpoints - [ ] Manual staging pass: link round-trips, Channels tab, assignment flows, and inbox routing ### Screenshots Pull requests explain who opened the request, where it lives, and which branch it comes from; fallback avatars remain visually distinct. Issues use the same sentence-style hierarchy while keeping status and recency easy to scan. The wide Inbox detail keeps author, timestamp, and origin context readable beside its metadata rail. fix(link-previews): send while previews finish in background (#5697)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Messages send immediately after submission while link previews finish in the background, with an option to skip delayed preview preparation. **Problem:** Waiting for link-preview metadata or snapshot uploads kept the composer occupied after users pressed Send, while races between completion, timeout, and cancellation risked inconsistent payloads. **Solution:** Freeze and promote speculative preview work into a bounded background send task, clear the composer immediately, and publish exactly once with prepared previews or gracefully without them when skipped, failed, or timed out. https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/987d2f2c-679f-473a-965f-dfb279951e52 <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/features/communities/useCommunityInit.ts** Resets pending link-preview preparation when community context changes so work cannot cross community boundaries. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/linkPreviewPreparationStore.ts** Adds the coordinator-owned preparation state machine, bounded fallback, Skip behavior, and exactly-once terminal publication handling. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ComposerUploadProgressOverlay.tsx** Extends floating background progress UI to include link-preview preparation. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ComposerUploadProgressPill.tsx** Adds the preparing-link-preview label and Skip action to the progress pill. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/MessageComposer.tsx** Hands submitted preview work to the background coordinator and clears the composer immediately. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/messageComposerAutoSubmit.test.mjs** Updates auto-submit unit coverage for coordinator-owned preview preparation. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/messageComposerAutoSubmit.ts** Allows submit to promote unfinished preview work instead of blocking composer submission. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useComposerLinkPreviews.tsx** Starts preview work speculatively and exposes frozen preparation jobs for adoption by the send flow. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useMentionSendFlow.helpers.ts** Carries prepared preview tags through the mention and media payload helpers. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/useMentionSendFlow.ts** Integrates prepared preview tags into final message publication. **desktop/src/shared/lib/useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts** Exposes the in-flight metadata promise so promoted work can be adopted rather than restarted. **desktop/tests/e2e/messaging.spec.ts** Covers immediate submit, upload handoff, Skip/completion races, failure fallback, auto-send, and exactly-once publication. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Scope desktop presence subscriptions to active demand (#5830)
## Summary - replace the desktop's global kind-20001 presence subscription with one author-filtered subscription derived from active TanStack presence queries - reconcile changing demand without a delivery gap: promote only after relay EOSE, keep the last confirmed subscription on failure, discard stale opens, and close entirely when demand is empty - preserve REST presence as the initial seed and TTL/crash-recovery backstop - add transport-seam and lifecycle tests for readiness, normalization, churn, retries, close failures, reconnect ownership assumptions, and disposal ## Why The desktop currently receives presence heartbeats from every identity on the relay. A live tap measured roughly 2,700 events/minute (45/sec), about 1 MB/minute and 71.5% of readable traffic, from approximately 1,300 distinct fleet identities. Most are discarded only after WebSocket, Tauri IPC, and JS parsing. This change applies normal Nostr author filtering at relay fan-out, before those costs. It deliberately does not introduce a relay digest protocol or client-side event batching; relevant-author traffic should be small after scoping, and the existing signed-delta/REST-TTL model remains intact. ## Correctness model - active query observers are the demand source; inactive cached queries retain no authors - replacement opens before old closes and is promoted only after EOSE - timeout/CLOSED rejects and closes the candidate while preserving the last good subscription - rapid A→B→C and A→B→A churn cannot unseat current A with stale B - empty demand never sends an unfiltered subscription - RelayClient continues to own reconnect replay; the reconciler does not duplicate subscriptions on reconnect ## Validation Exact pushed head: `8845093aec0330be16efe52d3459ff67f1000ff4` Pre-push hooks passed: - desktop check and file-size ratchet - desktop TypeScript - desktop unit suite: 4,791/4,791 - branch-skew check Focused lifecycle/transport suite: 34/34 passed before commit. Independent Royal Court review found and blocked two prototype flaws (timeout-as-success and starvation-prone trailing debounce); both were fixed and the final worktree was cleared with no remaining correctness or lifecycle blockers. Make workflow run history authoritative in Desktop (#5780)
## Summary - persist stable workflow run `error_code` values separately from human diagnostics - expose NIP-98 authenticated, channel-authorized run history and approval reads with stable keyset pagination - connect Desktop to those authoritative reads and return the relay-created run ID on trigger - show truthful loading, failure, and pending-trace states, and do not render approval actions from non-actionable stored hashes ## Validation - pre-push `branch-skew`, `desktop-typecheck`, `desktop-test`, `rust-tests`, `desktop-tauri-checks`, and `desktop-check` all passed on `a097dbe5f` - Desktop tests: 4,761 passed, 0 failed - `cargo check -p buzz-relay` - `git diff --check` ## Remaining gate This does not claim a relay-backed Playwright workflow journey. The browser relay bridge still routes workflow invokes through in-memory handlers; that production-shaped acceptance gate remains follow-up work before Workflows can leave preview. --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Mongo <5c25403eab7271f9f94ddd4f2b270e8cac2c92e2c830c51877cca6ec974ffb3f@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Princess Donut <68157ebd23b3897c1991015c3038658ea916200c67d3a54620b0754d1b92f6e0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): defer foreground resume work (#5696)
## Summary - defer foreground resume work until the activation task has returned, a frame has painted, and a trailing task gets a turn - centralize app-focus subscribers and remove the broad TanStack `refetchOnWindowFocus` fan-out - coalesce relay recovery and preserve an explicit deferred refresh only for workflow data without a polling/push freshness path - defer the notification permission native check while keeping blur and cheap correctness signals immediate ## Why Buzz Desktop 0.5.10 can spend roughly 1.5 seconds in the WebKit window-focus listener/microtask checkpoint before returning to the run loop. Focus currently fans out into query refetches, React polling updates, relay reconnect/replay, and native work in one activation turn. This patch establishes an interaction-first foreground boundary rather than letting those consumers compete with the activating input and first paint. ## Validation - focused foreground/workflow/relay tests: 18/18 passed before commit - `pnpm --dir desktop typecheck`: passed before commit - pre-commit desktop check and file-size gate: passed - pre-push desktop check, typecheck, and full desktop unit suite: 4,743/4,743 passed at `704e7b4b6618fafce655bb2b07c7a9fe0fc8c643` - Princess Donut independent adversarial review: PASS after two lifecycle/freshness blockers were resolved ## Manual test 1. Install the PR build and use Buzz long enough to populate channels, home, workflows, agents, and other polling surfaces. 2. Switch to another app for 30-60 seconds. 3. fix(desktop): remove 0.5.9+ perf regressions, speed up get_channels (#5599)
Desktop input latency regressed sharply for users on v0.5.9 and worsened on latest main: multi-second stalls when clicking back into the app, slow fresh boots, intermittent lockups, and scroll/mouse degradation. Reverting to `119a84897` (pre-0.5.9) was confirmed to resolve it, isolating the regression to that range. Profiling a live production renderer plus a commit-level audit of the range found three independent, additive causes — fixed here — plus a long-standing `get_channels` cost that made every remaining refetch expensive, also addressed here. ## 1. Focus-return refetch storm (`refetchOnWindowFocus`) #5490 wired TanStack's `focusManager` to app focus and flipped ~20 query sites to `refetchOnWindowFocus: true`. A focus return after >60s away fires them all within milliseconds — and a click into an unfocused window *is* a focus return, so the burst runs before the click is processed. That is the "click into the composer, wait 5 seconds" symptom, and it also explains why mouse input feels worse than keyboard (clicks arrive with focus transitions; typing happens while already focused). A 5-second `sample` of a live production renderer caught a single window activity-state transition consuming ~1.25s of main-thread time, dominated by `JSON.parse` in the focus listener's microtask drain. #5535 already established the fix pattern but applied it to only two families (channels, home-feed). This PR extends the same 5-minute `staleTime` discipline to the remaining families: pulse (×5), workflows (×4), agents (×4), forum (×2), presence, user-status, custom-emoji, channel-templates, and the persona catalog. Polling cadences and push-invalidation paths are untouched — interval refetches and `invalidateQueries` both bypass `staleTime`, so live-update behavior is unchanged. Each gated family exports its focus-refetch policy as an options object that the production hook spreads into `useQuery`, and a `focusRefetchPolicy.test.mjs` drives a `QueryObserver` with that same production object — locking the policy behaviorally (fresh focus return → 0 fetches; stale → refetch) and failing if a hook's `staleTime`/`refetchOnWindowFocus` wiring drifts. Four families deliberately keep tighter freshness, all surfaces where the 5-minute gate would suppress the only refresh path and none of which feed the app-wide storm: `repo-sync-status` keeps its fresh focus refetch (its inline comment documents the "committed in a terminal, switched back to the app" flow as intended); the workflow-runs list stale-gates at 10s because a remotely-started run has no push invalidation and its conditional 1s poll is off while the cache shows no active runs; the workflow list queries (`useChannelWorkflowsQuery` and the all-channels aggregate) stale-gate at 10s because they have no poll and no relay subscription, and mutation-driven invalidation only covers this renderer — remote workflow creates/edits/deletes surface only via focus refetch; and the managed-agent log stale-gates at one poll tick (30s) so returning to a live agent log refreshes immediately. Run approvals keep the 5-minute gate under `RUN_APPROVALS_FOCUS_STALE_TIME_MS` — their focused 10s poll already covers freshness. ## 2. Synchronous localStorage sweep on the boot/focus path #5453's stale-cache sweep synchronously `getItem` + `JSON.parse`s every whitelisted localStorage entry on the main thread (multi-MB on seasoned profiles), scheduled with a `requestIdleCallback` timeout of 1.5s that guaranteed it landed mid-boot, and re-armed on every hidden→visible transition — stacking it onto the exact moment the focus storm fires. #5454's `trimSelfProfileCaches()` additionally scanned every localStorage key on every `writeSelfProfileCache()` call (which fires per relay self-profile delivery at boot). Now: the first sweep waits `BOOT_SWEEP_FLOOR_MS` (30s) after startup, the scan is time-sliced across idle callbacks, and the visibility trigger is removed — boot-delayed plus hourly still covers the 14-day TTL contract. The sliced sweep re-checks staleness immediately before each removal (a key rewritten fresh mid-sweep survives), isolates per-key storage errors so one bad entry can't strand the rest of the snapshot, defers oversized values once rather than parsing them on a zero-budget slice, guarantees forward progress on timeout-fired callbacks, and cancels its scheduled slice when stopped. The profile trim keeps a lazily-initialized memoized key count so the common under-cap write is O(1); the full parse scan runs only when the count exceeds a cap, resyncs if external deletions made it stale, and a failed scan skips the trim instead of aborting the write. Sweep semantics (rules, TTLs, eviction) are unchanged, and tests cover the scheduling, slice-progress, error-isolation, defer-once, and trim short-circuit behaviors. ## 3. The macOS window was never opaque #5478's glass appearance is correctly opt-in at the CSS layer, but the compositor cost was baked in deeper than its native `on_webview_ready` transparency call: the main window is declared `"transparent": true` in `tauri.conf.json` (added for the original glass work in #1671), which makes tao call `NSWindow.setOpaque(false)` at creation and resolve every later `set_background_color(None)` to `clearColor` — and no runtime `setOpaque(true)` path exists through tauri, while wry's runtime background setter can only force the WKWebView's `drawsBackground` off, never back on. So "restore the platform default" was unreachable: every launch, glass or not, ran with a non-opaque NSWindow, defeating WindowServer's opaque-window compositing fast path and forcing full window compositing every frame — compounded by the existing `backdrop-blur` chrome overlapping the scrolling timeline. This matches the compositor-shaped symptoms (scroll and pointer input degrading first). The window is now created opaque (`"transparent": false`) and the NSWindow layer is never made transparent at runtime. Glass never needed a transparent window: behind-window `NSVisualEffectView` vibrancy renders inside opaque windows (this is how Finder and Notes draw vibrant sidebars); it only requires a transparent WKWebView canvas, which the `set_window_vibrancy` enable path already establishes at runtime (`macos-private-api` compiles that in independent of the window flag). Enabling glass installs the vibrancy layer and then makes only the webview canvas see-through; disabling clears the vibrancy layer — the canvas may stay non-drawing afterwards (wry's flag is one-way at runtime), which is harmless because glass-off CSS paints fully opaque above an always-opaque NSWindow. The boot-path first-frame backing writes touch only the NSWindow backing color and are therefore inert to glass state regardless of how they order against the `ThemeProvider`'s vibrancy call on a persisted-glass-on cold boot. Glass-off users (the default) get an end-to-end opaque window from boot for the first time. ## 4. `get_channels`: serial round-trips and a multi-MB payload on every refetch The stale gates in (1) cut refetch frequency; this cuts the cost of the refetches that legitimately remain (boot, and focus returns after more than 5 minutes away — previously still a multi-second stall). `get_channels` made ~8 fully serial relay round-trips (~3.2–3.6s at 1,100+ channels), then shipped the full `ChannelInfo` list — including every channel's member pubkeys — across IPC, where the renderer's `JSON.parse` of the multi-MB payload froze the main thread (the ~1.25s stall captured in the live sample). - **Concurrent stages**: the membership chain, the open-channel directory scan, and the hidden-DM snapshot run concurrently, as do the member-count and last-message queries that follow. The critical path drops from ~8 sequential round-trips to 2 phases. Filters, limits, pagination, and merge semantics are unchanged. - **Not-modified short-circuit**: the command now takes a client-supplied content hash (FNV-1a 64 over the channel list, canonicalized by id and excluding `last_message_at`) and omits the channel list from the response when nothing else changed. Last-message timestamps — which change on nearly every message anywhere — ship as a small separate map that the client overlays onto its cached list with reference preservation, so React Query's structural sharing also skips downstream re-renders. On a typical refocus the renderer parses kilobytes instead of megabytes. The hash is stored in the query cache itself, tying its lifecycle to the data it describes so a community switch can never leak a stale hash. The E2E mock bridge speaks the new payload shape — including the complete `last_messages` map the client treats as authoritative — and hash canonicalization plus overlay reference-preservation are unit-tested on both sides. --------- Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> |

fix(desktop): preserve theme when opening communities (#5266)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Previously selected community themes are preserved when opening a relay through onboarding, while first-time theme migration still completes for communities with no saved theme. **Problem:** During community initialization, desktop queried theme history before establishing live delivery. If a replacement event arrived while an empty history query was in flight, the client could incorrectly treat the theme as absent and publish the default over the user's saved selection. **Solution:** Subscribe before fetching history, expose whether live readiness reached EOSE, flush buffered live events before resolving EOSE, and retain the newest delivered replacement through hydration. Seed the inherited/default theme only when both live and history snapshots reach EOSE with no valid or unreadable event; subscription failures, CLOSED, readiness timeout, relay failure, and unreadable events fail closed without publishing. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src/shared/api/relayClientSession.ts / relayClientShared.ts / relayClosedRecovery.ts** Distinguish EOSE from CLOSED/timeout readiness and flush buffered events before resolving an EOSE fence. **desktop/src/shared/theme/CommunityThemeController.tsx** Seed and complete first-community migration only for confirmed absence; uncertain hydration remains non-publishing. **desktop/src/shared/theme/communityThemePreference.ts** Keep the inherited appearance for the first migrated community and the stable default for later empty communities. **desktop/src/shared/theme/communityThemeSync.ts** Arbitrate live and history results into valid, confirmed-absent, invalid, or unavailable hydration outcomes. **Tests** Cover EOSE/CLOSED readiness, subscription failure, timeout, unreadable and live-racing events, no-op initialization, and first-to-later community fallback isolation. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Save a non-default appearance for a community relay. 2. Remove the community locally, then open the same relay again through onboarding. 3. Arrange for the saved replacement event to arrive live while the initial history query returns empty. 4. Confirm the saved appearance remains selected and the client does not publish the default theme over it. 5. On an account with no theme records, open a first empty community and confirm its inherited appearance is migrated; open a later empty community and confirm it starts from the stable default. ## Validation - Pre-push desktop checks, typecheck, and full desktop tests: passed at `f79556b0e` - Focused theme/relay readiness tests: 38 passed - Desktop file-size ratchet and diff check: passed --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |
