93ffc37cbd feat(mobile): find people by name through the relay's name-only profile search (#8333)
🤖
## Summary
In the mobile app, searching for "wes" did not find Wes. People search
matched text anywhere in a profile, including the image data of a shared
default avatar. Many agent profiles use that avatar, so they filled the
results and the real Wes never appeared.

Now every people search in the app uses the relay's new name search: the
Search page, adding channel members, new messages, and @mention
suggestions. It matches only a profile's name and display name and puts
exact names first. The desktop app (block/buzz-app#1084), agent tools
(block/buzz-app#1124) and the CLI (#8331) make the same change.

Compatibility: a relay without the new search answers 404 or 405. That
search uses the old search, and so do later searches on the same relay
for five minutes; then the app tries the new search again, so a relay
that is upgraded while the app runs is used soon after. A query or
result count that the new search cannot take also uses the old search.
Other errors are shown as before.

Order: search results keep the relay's ranking, so "Wes" comes before
"Abe Wes". Before, the Search page and the member and new-message
pickers sorted results by name. The list with no query is still
alphabetical. Each screen still applies its own filters.

Not in scope: the community invite screen accepts only an npub and has
no name search, so this PR does not change it.

### Related issue
Relay endpoint: #8301. This PR does not depend on it; either can merge
first.

### Testing
- Relay session tests: the name query goes to the new search with a
signed request; a 404 falls back and stays on the old search until the
retry time; a 405 falls back; other errors do not fall back; an
unsupported result count uses the old search.
- Updated tests for add members and @mention search, and a test that
search results keep the relay's order while the browse list stays
alphabetical.
- `just mobile-check` and the relay, channel, mention, invite and search
tests (1,962) pass.
- No screenshots: results look the same; only which people are found
changes.

b1d60f98e2 Bring synced Solo chats and projects to mobile (#8337)
## Summary
Bring desktop Solo chats and project organization to mobile, with synced
collapsible sections, shared unread highlights and tab badges, agent
selection, shared search, native iOS creation sheets, and inline typing
bubbles that transition into replies.

Resolve Solo placement for every chat entry route, retain encrypted
organization snapshots for offline reading, and let users resume or
discard unfinished chat and project setup without deleting existing
messages.

### Related issue
Related: #6565; expandable agent transcripts remain separate work.

### Testing
- Fresh Solo read state seeds each active chat from its captured initial
last-message timestamp before exposing row/section/tab unread state.
Baselines survive intervening channel updates and reset across
identity/community boundaries while surviving read-state readiness
changes. Regressions cover multiple chats, events before read-state
readiness and during/after seeding, and identity changes; removing
either the seed or the display gate fails them.
- Chat completion reconciles a retained Solo-save journal even when
placement is already confirmed. False/throwing cleanup regressions
ensure the outer intent remains until reconciliation and only one
placement is published. Typing terminal-close loops remain bounded; the
retry budget resets after an uninterrupted eight-second health interval
or transport reconnect.
- Typing retry budgets reset after sustained recovery; invalid Solo
updates retain cached rows with a retry warning that survives failed
refreshes. Project names use the editors’ 120-grapheme limit, including
emoji and combining characters. Regression coverage exercises repeated
recovery, invalid live/refresh heads, and character-limit boundaries.
- Rebased onto current main, preserving the newer Search controls,
Huddle timeline filtering, and message-media layout.
- Failed project journal writes reload storage before claiming recovery
and reopen the entered name for retry. Typing subscription rejections
are caught; terminal closures clear stale indicators and retry with a
bounded backoff, canceled on disposal. Regression tests cover both
false/throwing storage writes and initial/late subscription rejection.
- Explicit ordinary destinations skip optional Solo lookup waits.
Generic destinations perform one bounded lookup in the destination
(search no longer duplicates it); an unavailable classification falls
back to ordinary sending per the product owner's explicit choice.
Positively identified Solo destinations use Solo providers.
- Terminal Solo subscription closure preserves cached rows and exposes
live-update Retry. Page coverage verifies warning visibility, usable
rows during recovery, and a subsequent terminal close. Removing the
warning or the immediate ordinary-route guard fails its regression.
- Generic channel entries share an ordinary default when Solo
classification is unavailable, per the requested product behavior. Known
Solo placement takes precedence; callers can explicitly require
unresolved placement to remain blocked. Bounded initial lookup preserves
known Solo deep-link routing.
- Dirty newest snapshots and offline-save warnings survive transport
reconnects; Retry persists that same event even if the relay returns an
older head. Community changes replace the service, and agent-directory
reconnect refresh remains intact.
- Pending-save discard reloads failed removals. Repeated reconnect
testing confirms typing subscriptions are released on provider rebuild
and disposal; removing the existing cleanup fails the regression.
- Ordinary Home/create routes explicitly preserve private-channel
sending during Solo failures; identified Solo sends use the Solo sender
and explicit unresolved routes remain fail-closed. Solo unread replies
beyond the initial 200-event page are loaded through the oldest-unread
boundary.
- Chat/project/agent cleanup reloads failed removals, retains
same-process recovery, and protects replaced records. False/throw
regressions verify retries do not duplicate creation or membership.
Route, unread, and cleanup guard-removal mutations each fail their
regression.
- Ordinary channels, DMs, and forums remain sendable when optional Solo
sync fails; explicit unresolved placement stays blocked. Controlled
cache races retain the newest verified snapshot, keep usable chats
visible, and retry offline persistence without stale writes. Both
protection-removal regressions fail as expected.
- Confirmed journal cleanup checks false/throwing removal and
exact-record identity. Interrupted agent choices are visible
immediately, identify the saved agent, and cover Resume/Later/Discard
with accessible name/key-fallback controls.
- Notification deep links preserve the contiguous history cursor;
same-second messages infer the newest agent consistently. Failed
offline-cache writes surface Retry, with false/throwing storage failures
and offline restart covered.
- Composite history cursors cover 350 same-second events plus older
history; removing the ID cursor makes the regression fail. Agent changes
now journal before granting access, with restart/failure and
Resume/Later/Discard widget coverage. Signed malformed profiles remain
isolated.
- Native iOS avatar tests passed on the simulator: visible-row loading,
three-request concurrency, streamed byte limits, response validation,
downsampling/pixel limits, cancellation, and visible avatar updates.
- Solo and Home share observed-event/read-marker logic. Widget coverage
verifies unread rows, collapsed-section indicators, the tab badge before
first Solo visit, message/thread reads, forced unread, and filtering
archived/nonmember/unplaced chats.
- Chat intent is saved before ownership and organization preflight;
tests cover interrupted ownership lookup and a disconnect while the
native creation form is open.
- Mobile analysis, formatting, file-size checks, and full mobile tests
passed at `1d4c41354`.
- Project creation persists its encrypted name/UUID before connectivity
checks or relay reads. Restart tests cover Resume/Later/Discard, scope
isolation, stale-intent rejection, and lost acknowledgements. Removing
the pre-network save makes all four production-flow regressions fail.
- Regression coverage includes notification/Activity routing, inline
replies, unknown-placement send protection, restart recovery/discard,
and encrypted offline cache isolation/refresh.
- Earlier feature build exercised on a physical iPhone with existing
account/community data; review follow-ups have not been reinstalled on
the device. UIKit agent-row accessibility checks passed on an iOS
simulator.
- Earlier cross-platform `just ci` stopped on the existing `buzz-acp`
test `signals_cancel_startup_turn_and_pending_stdin_without_hanging`
(process exit-code assertion); no Rust production changes are included
in this PR.

### Remaining review limitation
Agent discovery is bounded to 10 pages / 1,000 profiles with automatic
retries disabled. Owner-scoped discovery remains open because the
current relay ignores `#auth` filters; supporting that query requires a
relay change.

### Snapshots

sheets and controls.

fea02d174d fix(ios): fetch profiles and avatars in notification extension (#8369)
A notification can arrive from someone whose profile the main app has
never loaded. The iOS notification extension now fetches and caches
sender profiles, channel details, and avatars itself. The main app
supplies account configuration and Keychain credentials only.

After resolving the message, the extension allows 1.5 seconds for sender
and channel details. It uses available stale data when a refresh is slow
or fails, delivers once, and lets late results update its private cache.
Profiles, channel details, and avatar refresh checks share a one-hour
freshness threshold. A verified avatar removal clears the previous
image. Account removal prevents further use of that sign-in's cached
data.

Profile, channel metadata, and membership use separate bounded
downloads, so an oversized roster cannot discard the smaller records.
Sender enrichment can finish while channel requests are pending. A
successful partial channel refresh atomically removes its old
counterpart, preventing a mixed group identity or recipient count.
Group-specific notification presentation still requires a verified
recipient count.

The
[specification](https://github.com/block/buzz/blob/native-notification-enrichment/docs/native-notification-enrichment.md)
describes the display, caching, and account-removal behavior. General
persistent image caching in Flutter remains separate.

### Validation

[Hosted CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/38780108487)
passed on the final commit, including all Flutter shards, Android, the
full iOS release and simulator builds, and native
controls/push-navigation tests. The [current-commit security
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8369#issuecomment-6197508385)
found no issues.

The native package passed 159 tests, including new coverage for cache
freshness, avatar replacement and removal, sign-in isolation, concurrent
storage, late results, single delivery, bounded downloads, and SVG
validation. A regression test exposed identical HTTP authentication
event IDs for requests in the same second; each request now includes a
unique nonce, matching the Dart and CLI clients.

Full local CI passed before that small authentication fix. The complete
native suite and signed device build passed again on the latest commit,
including response-size limits, overlapping avatar downloads, canonical
relay-origin matching, independent profile/channel refreshes,
account-key changes before and during requests, and a single initial
snapshot read across 64 accounts, signed IPv6 avatar authorities, and
partial channel refreshes. Focused Flutter regression tests passed 198
tests with three configuration-specific skips; seven avatar widget tests
also passed. Flutter analysis is clean, and the notification extension
builds for the simulator.

On an iPhone SE, the notification displayed the sender name, avatar,
channel, and message before the updated main app was opened. Repeat
notifications used a byte-identical private cache. Three notifications
delivered together displayed the avatar after the authentication fix.
The next notification also displayed correctly after terminating the
extension process. The existing generic-push design can select the same
newest unread message for several pushes; this change does not alter
message selection.

![Notification before first app launch after
upgrade](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/block/buzz/37d450855e026178836e2a9e05b0081ebbc3b479/pr-8369--before-first-app-launch.png)

Authenticated HTTP avatar fetching and persistent HTTP cache reuse also
passed on the SE. The first notification downloaded a relay thumbnail.
After terminating the extension and expiring its separate avatar entry,
the next notification displayed the avatar and refreshed that entry
without another media request in the relay logs. The main app remained
unopened throughout. The original app build and test profile were
restored afterward.

Automated tests cover slow and failed requests, stale images, removal,
and account revocation; those cases have not all been exercised on the
phone.

### Before merge

against a working relay media service.

d61fe2071d Use native UIKit scrolling for iOS photo carousels (#8361)
Builds on the mobile polish merged in #8359; this PR now targets `main`.
On iOS, inline photo galleries now use a UIKit collection view for
dragging, deceleration, and snapping. Photo taps retain the existing
full-screen viewer and reply/more actions; gallery scrolling continues
to fade the message avatar. The final photo stops at the full message
gutter rather than the smaller gap between photos. Android keeps the
current Flutter carousel.

Visible cells subscribe to continuing frames from Flutter's existing
authenticated image providers, preserving animated GIF/APNG/WebP media.
Request IDs fence late frames and cancel subscriptions on
reuse/disappearance/disposal. A four-slot bound includes retired
unresolved loads until their transport terminates. Shared media fetches
now use abortable HTTP requests with a 30-second deadline through
response-body completion, so stalled requests release their slots
without leaving live transports behind; native eager precaching is
disabled so it cannot bypass that bound. Frame conversion coalesces to
the newest pending frame. Native cells expose photo labels and positions
to VoiceOver, support RTL, and preserve the selected photo during
resizing.

Validation:
- Mobile formatting and analysis passed.
- Native simulator regression checks passed for geometry, RTL, snapping,
taps, frame replacement, cancellation, and resizing. The native CI lane
now runs the carousel executable.
- Full mobile suite and pre-push gates passed, including two-frame GIF
delivery, delayed-provider bounds/cancellation, real HTTP
stalled-header/body recovery with four requests maximum, disposal, and
unconfigured-push tests.
- Signed iPhone Release build of the frame/subscription implementation
passed. Physical iPhone testing covered the earlier carousel/gutter
revision; the new animation/cancellation changes have local Flutter and
native simulator coverage, not a new physical-device journey.
Preview-only signing overrides preserve its bundle/Keychain group;
production entitlements are unchanged. Local provisioning excludes
production push/App Attest capabilities.
- Full `just ci` was started but stopped after unrelated Rust/desktop
compilation consumed about 5 GB; broad CI is incomplete.

Device build required local Xcode 27 workarounds: iOS 16 deployment
target and a generated swift-secp256k1 cache compatibility edit. Neither
changes repository source.

42b395cdef Polish mobile bubbles, mentions, galleries, and huddle cards (#8359)
Builds on the merged themes work in #8358 and inherits its appearance
and chat-color settings.

Polishes mobile conversations with uniform rounded bubbles,
desktop-style text-only mentions and agent icon, aligned gallery counts,
fading gallery avatars, and standard iOS scrolling. Huddles use rounded
cards with attached reaction trays, without duplicate start/end notices;
other activity rows stay centered with smaller text.

Validation: mobile checks, the full mobile test suite, and the gallery
regression test passed. Release build installed on iPhone. Full `just
ci` could not finish: desktop compilation exhausted local disk space.

a5dfdd6d55 Align mobile appearance and channels with desktop (#8358)
Aligns mobile with desktop's neutral palette and six chat colors.
Appearance now offers Light, Dark, and System instead of themes, while
preserving community preferences and the single Home and Chat preview
pair.

Chat colors survive local preference reloads without historical-index
remapping, and the Chat preview shows the draft outgoing bubble color.

Channel and section icons are removed, section chevrons sit beside
names, and section dividers use 7% opacity. DM avatars remain.

Validation: `just mobile-check`, 35 focused tests, and the full mobile
suite passed (3,351 tests; 4 skipped). Updated light/dark previews were
rendered and visually checked. The earlier release was verified on
iPhone; this follow-up has not been reinstalled. The earlier
repository-wide lint passed, but full `just ci` was stopped for low disk
space. Hosted CI is running for the new head.

**Intentional design parity:** Section labels and chevrons retain
desktop’s `--text-unavailable` colors: light `#959595`, dark `#595959`.
Verified against `block/buzz-app` main at
`0201b54c496120a44e020834663dc534cae9a79f`. These colors do not meet
4.5:1 text contrast on the mobile section surfaces; the product decision
for this PR is to preserve desktop parity and leave them unchanged.
Kenneth explicitly accepts this known contrast tradeoff for this
PR/release and requests that reviewers treat it as a scoped product
exception rather than a blocker. This does not claim WCAG compliance or
change the repository-wide accessibility target. Any future contrast
adjustment should be coordinated across desktop and mobile.

b77ba86262 perf(mobile): cut test wall time and run mobile CI lanes in parallel (#8347)
## Problem

Mobile pushes and PRs are slow.

- **Pre-push takes ~133s on a mobile-only change.** About 115s of that
is `flutter test`, and the finish time is set by a few files that wait
on real clocks.
- `push_presentation_export_test` (75s) and
`push_presentation_recovery_test` (19s) sleep through the full 7.75s
retry backoff.
- `channel_messages_provider_test` (70s) sleeps through recount and
ownership retry backoff on real time.
- **The required Mobile CI job takes ~15–16 min.** It runs tests
(390–430s on a 4-vCPU runner, 2 test files at a time) and then the
Android debug APK build (~400s, no Gradle cache) back to back.
- **Mobile Swift takes 18–21 min.** The unsigned release build (~4.5
min) waits behind the simulator tests.

Pre-commit is ~3s and isn't part of the problem.

## Change

**Tests** (each one still asserts what it did before)
- **Push exports.** Production retries wait through
`debugPushPresentationRetryWait`, which defaults to `Future.delayed`.
The export and recovery tests skip the real waits and assert the exact
250ms → 4s backoff schedule instead. Export fixtures sign each event
once per file.
- **`channel_messages_provider_test`.** Every test runs on `fakeAsync`.
A file-local `test` wrapper keeps the 90 call sites unchanged. Timers
fire in their real order, and a test that waits on work outside fake
time fails instead of hanging. Raising the production retry bound
(`attempt < 2` → `3`) still fails the 5 exhausted-retry tests.
- **`signed qualified caller`.** This test mounts the page 48 times and
opens the profile sheet twice per mount. It now disables the sheet
animation; it asserts which pubkey and labels show, not motion.

**CI**
- **Mobile runs as five parallel matrix lanes:** checks (format,
analyze, unconfigured push test, recipe test), three `flutter test
--total-shards=3` shards, and the Android build. The required `Mobile`
gate still reads the combined result.
- **Android restores a Gradle cache,** which is saved only on pushes to
`main`.
- **Mobile Swift builds the unsigned release** in a parallel lane beside
the native build, tests and simulator checks.

## Validation

Measured locally on an 18-core Mac with warm caches:

| | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| `flutter test` (full suite) | 115s | 74s |
| Summed per-test time | 411s | 307s |
| `push_presentation_export_test` | 75s | 38s |
| `channel_messages_provider_test` | 70s | 22s |
| Pre-push, mobile-only push | 133s | 95s |

- The CI lane timings come from this PR's own run.
- `actionlint` passes, and so do
`scripts/test-ci-required-context-isolation.sh` and
`scripts/ci-required-gates.test.mjs`.
- The pre-push hook (format, analyze, full `flutter test`) passed on
push.

## Not in this PR

- `channel_detail_page_test` (~55s) is now the local long pole.
Splitting it into shard files would let it run in parallel, but it is
one 16k-line library with `part` files, so that is a separate refactor.
- Caching Hermit and pub on macOS would cut ~100s of setup from each
Mobile Swift lane.

8222e99915 fix(mobile): keep thread references consistent across push and Inbox (#8332)
Follow-up to [#8294](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8294). Malformed
trailing thread tags could make a notification open the right thread
while Flutter indexed its reply elsewhere; uppercase references could
similarly miss lowercase event IDs.

Share one validated thread-reference parser between the mobile timeline,
Inbox, and feed helper. It ignores malformed markers, keeps the last
valid root/reply, and normalizes lookup IDs to lowercase. Native push
parsing now uses the same casing. Existing thread fixtures use valid
event IDs so they continue exercising real thread relationships.

Add RunnerTests coverage for the production native-to-Flutter argument
conversion, including buffered cold-start navigation and omitted
optional thread IDs, and run it in the native CI lane.

### Validation

- New parser and Inbox regressions cover malformed markers and uppercase
references. Widget regressions open and highlight the exact reply for
valid, uppercase, and trailing-malformed tags.
- After integrating [#8106](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8106),
Flutter analysis and the complete mobile suite pass: 3,337 tests, four
existing skips. Integration preserves per-event read predicates and
migrates incoming thread fixtures to valid IDs. An unchanged
keyboard-history test also failed with main's original parser; recording
reads before the scroll transition fixes its timing assumption while
retaining visibility assertions.
- Native package tests passed (127 tests), and both Runner bridge tests
passed on an iOS simulator with Xcode 26.5. Removing the production
`threadRootId` assignment made the bridge regression fail; restoring it
passed. Native code is unchanged by the main integration.
- [Current-head CI
passed](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/38659307247),
including Mobile and Mobile Swift. [Codex
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8332#issuecomment-6181458528)
and [security
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8332#issuecomment-6181449235)
found no issues on the integrated commit. [Owner
approval](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8332#pullrequestreview-5526812957)
covers the exact integrated commit.
- Standards and spec reviews found no blockers, including the merge
resolutions and test adjustments. Validation is scoped to mobile/native
per VISION_MOBILE; unrelated repository-wide checks were stopped, not
counted as passing.

The bridge test covers serialization and buffering, not end-to-end APNs
delivery or app launch. No new physical-device acceptance is claimed;
routine post-merge dogfood remains human-owned.

9ade5d1ad1 feat(mobile): write catch-up and visible-message read marks like the web app (#8106)
🤖
## Summary
When you read a channel or thread on the phone, the web and desktop app
(buzz-app) should show it as read too, and the reverse. buzz-app no
longer saves a "read" mark for each ordinary message. It saves one
"caught up to here" mark per channel and per thread, and keeps
per-message marks only for mentions, DMs, broadcasts and replies. Mobile
already reads those marks. This PR makes mobile write them, so reading
on the phone clears unread on other devices and saved read state stays
small.

What changes on the phone:
- Reaching the bottom of a channel, and staying there for 300 ms, marks
it caught up. Reaching the end of a thread does the same for that
thread.
- A message you see fully on screen, away from the bottom, is marked
read on its own.
- Mentions, DMs, broadcasts and thread replies you see keep their own
read marks, as in buzz-app.
- Automatic reading never marks the whole channel read. Only the
explicit **Mark read** action does that. DMs and forums are the
exception: opening one marks it all read, as mobile does today.
- Reaching the bottom of a channel you marked unread ends that manual
unread. Unseen mentions and replies stay unread.
- Activity rows clear when you have read every message in the row, not
just the newest.

### Related issue

https://github.com/block/buzz-app/pull/616.

### Testing
- Unit tests cover the new write rules, Activity rows and the size limit
on saved read state.
- Widget tests cover reading on the channel page and the thread page,
opening a DM, and reaching the bottom of a channel you marked unread.
- No visual changes.

## Details
**Read marks.** "Caught up" is saved as `activity:<channel>` for a
channel and `thread-activity:<root>` for a thread. A caught-up mark
reads only ordinary top-level messages (channel) or that thread's
replies (thread). A per-message mark is `msg:<id>`.

**Caught-up time.** The mark is set to the time of the bottom row, and
never later than the current time. The time of a newer reply is not
used. So a top-level message that arrives late, with an earlier
timestamp, stays unread. A clock that runs fast, on this phone or the
sender's, cannot mark messages read before they arrive.

**Nested threads.** A thread opened on a nested reply shows only one
branch. Reaching its end writes per-message marks only, so unread
messages in other branches stay unread.

**Reading delay.** The 300 ms reading delay now restarts only when
messages arrive or leave. Before, any page rebuild restarted it, for
example a typing indicator.

**Activity rows.** A row that groups several events is done only when
each event is read. Each event is checked against the channel mark, its
own `msg:` mark, and its thread marks if it is a reply. Opening a row
goes to the oldest unread event.

**Publishing.** Mobile no longer republishes per-message marks it got
from other devices. buzz-app removes those once a caught-up mark covers
them. Broad marks (channel, thread, caught-up) are still republished, so
they stay available after the fetch window. The published blob is capped
at buzz-app's 40 KiB limit. Channel marks are kept first, then thread
marks, then caught-up marks, then the newest per-message marks. Before,
a blob over the encryption limit (about 64 KiB) turned off sync for the
rest of the session.

**DMs and manual unread.** Opening a DM reads it through the newest
loaded message, replies included, as mobile does today. Reaching the
bottom of a channel ends a manual unread. Manual unread on mobile is
local to this session, so ending it does not change what other devices
see.

**Compatibility.** Older desktop builds read only channel and
per-message marks. They may show extra unread for channels read on the
phone.

**Follow-ups, not in this PR**
- Unread catch-up fetches start after the channel mark and are capped at
1,000 events. In a busy channel, an old unread mention can drop out of
the badge. The fetch should also start from the caught-up mark, or load
more pages.
- Each mark triggers its own save and rebuild. They could be batched.
- Broadcast replies are counted slightly differently from buzz-app.
- buzz-app can also move its caught-up mark past the current time.

a83ea69b72 fix(mobile): replay native navigation state when returning Home (#8314)
Restore the iOS navigation bar after any covering route pops, including
opaque custom Settings and community routes. Use the shared app
RouteObserver and didPopNext, then replay scroll depth and request
native layout after Flutter paints the uncovered view. Voice recording
retains the same observer through its existing alias.

Regression coverage uses the real HomePage with both MaterialPageRoute
and opaque PageRouteBuilder, at scrolled and top-of-list positions. The
custom-route case fails before this change.

Validation: 107 focused tests and analysis passed. Full mobile runs
stalled under local disk pressure, so full-suite validation is
incomplete. On-device verification of this follow-up remains pending.

231a469de5 Refresh mobile message bubbles, reactions, and activity cards (#8281)
## Summary

Refresh mobile conversations with left-aligned grouped bubbles without
tails, tighter consecutive-message spacing, distinct sender colors,
theme-aware incoming backgrounds, and compact overlapping reaction
trays. Attach reply counts beside reactions with up to three participant
avatars; keep outgoing mentions and links readable in both themes.
Coordinate a 500 ms composer-to-message transition with spring
contraction and an anchored avatar. Message ownership follows the
signing identity so profile reloads cannot recolor outgoing bubbles.

Center channel activities without timestamps or icons, keep names
tappable, and show two affected members plus a **See all** sheet. Hide
legacy purpose activities, match media corners to bubble groups, and add
iOS status-bar scroll-to-top. This is an independent mobile PR; no
desktop changes or color picker.

## Validation

- Full `just mobile-check` passed; `just mobile-test` passed 3,275 tests
with 4 skips, plus 3 unconfigured-gateway checks.
- Fixed message-widget lint warnings and a stale notification fixture
that blocked analysis. Made the video-controller disposal test wait for
lifecycle events instead of fixed delays. Mobile pre-push checks are
enabled.
- Physical iPhone previews were installed throughout development. The
latest bubble, reply-avatar, contrast, and spacing updates were
installed and launched on the physical iPhone. Final motion and
status-bar behavior still need device visual verification; Android has
automated coverage but no physical-device verification.

7b9551aba8 fix(ios): open push replies in their containing thread (#8294)
Tapping a push notification for a thread reply currently opens the
channel at its parent. Preserve the verified event's direct-parent
thread ID through the iOS notification payload and Flutter bridge so the
tap opens the containing thread and highlights that exact reply, even
when newer replies have arrived. This matches Inbox's destination
selection for nested replies; broadcast replies still open in the
channel.

Closest related work: https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/6159 (original
push-tap routing).

### Validation

- Follow-up
[5b70e1a](5b70e1a5cb)
selects the last valid 64-character ASCII-hex reply marker, matching
relay ingest. Regression tests failed before the fix; all 80 XCTest and
47 Swift Testing tests passed afterward with Xcode 26.5. [Current-head
CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/38607128406) passed,
including Flutter tests, Android build, native package tests, complete
iOS simulator and unsigned release builds, and native accessibility
tests. The [current-head security
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8294#issuecomment-6174205374)
reports no findings. Physical evidence below predates this
validation-only follow-up.

- [Baseline CI on
f465f91](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/38436936153) passed,
including Flutter and native package tests, Android build, complete iOS
simulator and unsigned release builds, and native accessibility tests.
- Full local validation passed on
[f465f91](f465f9196f),
including 3,215 Flutter tests (four skipped) and three unconfigured-push
tests. The 49 focused navigation tests also passed after the baseline
merge.
- Added coverage for cold/warm bridge delivery, exact reply highlighting
with newer arrivals, direct-parent and broadcast destinations, and
malformed optional thread IDs. The Codex finding for an empty reply
marker is fixed and resolved.
- Physical acceptance passed on the managed iPhone 12 mini using signed
Buzz Dev 10140, built from f465f91 with SDK 26.5. Real push taps and
Inbox opened the same containing thread and highlighted the exact reply.
An older alert retained its target after a newer reply arrived; a
retained alert also worked after terminating the app. Top-level push
navigation reached the channel.
- Installed in place with the existing identity, app data and pairing
retained. No key reset or rotation was performed. Notifications were
restored to off and device control released. Xcode 27 hits an unchanged
dependency compiler error; the matching Xcode 26.5 toolchain built and
signed this tested candidate successfully.

b5223d2525 Use grouped message action sheets and fix date layering (#8280)
## Summary
Replace message long-press popovers with the shared grouped bottom
sheet: an emoji row, Reply / Copy link / Remind me tiles, and remaining
actions in regular sections. Match emoji backgrounds to the sections and
use the theme primary color for the selected reaction.

Keep the scrolling date above the navigation blur in channels and
threads. Restore composer focus when the sheet is canceled, keep section
gaps consistent, and soften shared dividers to 7% opacity.

The reaction details sheet shows all reactors by default. Emoji count
chips toggle your own reaction, show your selected state, and update
live without dismissing the sheet. Unselected reactions have visible
outlines; adding a supported emoji plays the chat-style burst and
respects reduced motion.

c09730e874 fix(mobile): keep notification toggle usable and match row height (#8223)
Turning Notifications off invalidated the relay capability provider
because it watched the entire saved community. If the redundant NIP-11
request stalled or failed, the switch became disabled and reopening
Settings did not recover it. Discovery now follows community identity
and connection status, so preference and lease bookkeeping retain the
validated capability while a real reconnect still refreshes it. Each
opt-in also starts a fresh active lease immediately instead of waiting
for the old renewal timer. Failed attempts retain their gate until the
retry delay expires, preventing rebuilds from bypassing backoff.

Notifications now has the same single-line height as Set status, with
the full switch hit area and one combined accessibility label. This
follows [#8201](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8201); no duplicate
open PR was found.

### Validation

Added iOS widget regressions mount the production settings page and push
bootstrap with production storage logic, signing, and lease publication.
They verify a higher-generation active replacement after off/on with
accepted, failed, and pending cleanup, plus closing/reopening Settings,
switch and row taps, 2× text, accessibility, and rediscovery on
reconnect. A gate test verifies that rebuilds cannot bypass failure
backoff. Both UI failures and the missing active replacement were
reproduced before their fixes.

Mobile dependency installation, formatting/static checks, 3,234
configured tests, and three unconfigured-build tests passed. Captures
use the real Flutter settings widget at 375pt width, with synthetic data
and mocked native/network boundaries. Native navigation is outside the
capture. No device installation or deployment was performed.

After merge, validate the candidate on iOS: compare Notifications with
Set status, toggle off then immediately on, close/reopen Settings while
off and turn on, and repeat after reconnect. Confirm delivery resumes
after opt-in.

### Layout

Flutter widget captures with synthetic data; native navigation is
excluded.

868e2f8f32 refactor(push): one app profile per gateway (#8206)
Buzz push currently selects an application profile, such as `dogfood`,
during client registration. We want each gateway to serve one Apple app
configured by the operator instead. This removes profile selection from
the client, relay, and gateway, while allowing internal and public
gateways to use their own Apple identities.

This PR implements that model in the Buzz source and upstream deployment
chart. Discovery, enrollment, grants, and leases no longer carry an
application-profile selector. Each gateway has one configured Apple
application and APNs transport.

The protocol changes are incompatible with the old registration format,
so relays advertise `buzz-push-v1` instead of `nip-pl`. Old clients do
not discover the new push capability. Updated clients use separate
Keychain records and register again. The [push
notes](https://github.com/block/buzz/blob/push-capability-v1/docs/buzz-push.md)
describe the experimental contract.

Landing this PR is the first step. Publish the matching gateway image
and upstream chart, then land the [shared chart
update](https://github.com/squareup/cash-helm-charts/pull/5740) and
[gateway deployment
update](https://github.com/squareup/builderbot-platform-core-infrastructure/pull/1085).
Before cutover, stop old gateway instances and check legacy registration
state. Migrations refuse to proceed if old gateway installations or
active relay leases remain; they do not delete that state.
Physical-device verification remains necessary before production
activation.

### Validation
Gateway and focused Flutter push tests pass, as do the Swift package,
simulator build, and native notification/enrichment tests. A local relay
advertises `buzz-push-v1` without `nip-pl` or `app_profiles`. The
PostgreSQL suite passed 868 tests; its two migration-test failures were
corrected and pass a focused rerun together with the gateway cutover
guard. Chart rendering and release-contract checks pass.

Desktop JavaScript tests, desktop and web builds, native desktop
compilation, mobile analysis/tests, and desktop native tests pass. The
full Rust unit lane and prescribed `just test` command pass, including
workspace integration tests against task-isolated local services. The
production overlay now requires an explicitly supplied APNs topic, with
omission and rendered-value regression coverage. The corrected Swift
checksum assertion passes the complete package suite: 78 XCTest tests
and 42 Swift Testing tests. No physical-device enrollment or production
cutover is claimed.

Local merge validation: the embedded migration test and formatting pass
after reserving profile migration 0060 behind rollback migration 0059.
The local pre-push Rust lane failed ACP timing/steering tests
(`idle_resets_on_stdout_activity`,
`keepalive_resets_idle_past_deadline`, and the failed/missing-outcome
steering tests). ACP and its dependency manifests are unchanged by this
branch; all four pass in an isolated single-thread rerun. The documented
local-check exception skips only the Rust pre-push lane for publication;
required CI remains mandatory. Mobile and desktop pre-push lanes passed.

Combined migration validation: after rollback 0059 landed, the main
merge preserves profile migration 0060 and both embedded migration
assertions. The focused migration test and formatting pass. The next
local push again failed only the unchanged ACP idle/keepalive timing
tests (1053 passed, 2 failed, 3 ignored); other lanes passed.
Publication uses the same documented local Rust-lane exception; required
CI remains mandatory.

Follow-up review fix: removed the legacy profile column from the
copied-lease fixture. All four event-follow-up contract tests pass on
isolated PostgreSQL databases, covering desired and migrated schemas in
dual and app-only modes. Formatting passes. Publication retains the
prior passing local-lane evidence and uses the authorized pre-push
exception for the known unrelated ACP timing failures; required CI
remains mandatory.

394d4a434b fix(mobile): normalize relay URL before disabling push (#8201)
Communities joined with a `ws://` or `wss://` relay URL cannot disable
push: the opt-out path passes that URL directly to the HTTP-only NIP-11
fetcher, fails before publishing the inactive lease, and leaves the
durable retry pending. This was reproduced in USB logs from TestFlight
0.20.1 (49).

Normalize the URL with the existing push relay HTTP helper before
fetching metadata, matching the revocation outbox's handling. No
settings UI changes. Related: #8199 removes the status text but does not
fix this synchronization failure; no duplicate fix found.

### Validation

Four regression cases exercise the real community deactivator through
its HTTP boundary. The WebSocket cases fail with the device's exact
exception before the fix; all four pass afterward. All 37 focused
community/revocation tests and targeted Flutter analysis pass. An
initial full mobile run had three failures (recount timing and native
export timeout/order); all three passed in isolated reruns. The full
mobile checks and test suite passed on retry. The local repository-wide
gate stopped during Rust compilation without a final result; a full
local pass is not claimed. [GitHub
CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/37865048873) passed,
including mobile tests, Android build, Swift tests, iOS simulator build,
and unsigned iOS release build. [Codex
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8201#issuecomment-6071795750)
reported no major issues.

The installed TestFlight build is unchanged. After this fix lands,
validate that upgrading the same installation clears its existing
pending opt-out and leaves the relay lease inactive, without toggling
notifications back on.

bbcbd7ce13 Preview Tabler icons in the mobile app (#8109)
## Summary

Preview buzz-app's Tabler icon style in the mobile app, replacing

70d2ca7760 fix(mobile): tolerate unrelated NIP-11 relay metadata (#8160)
Relay capability additions such as `read_state_snapshot` currently make
mobile push discovery reject otherwise valid NIP-11 documents. This
blocks descriptor-dependent enrollment, lease updates, and remote
revocation.

Read unrelated top-level metadata permissively while preserving
validation of the advertised `nip-pl` extension and the complete push
descriptor. Each returned descriptor value is covered by compatibility
tests; missing or malformed required push fields still fail.

### Validation

- [Codex code
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8160#issuecomment-6049355700)
and [security
review](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8160#issuecomment-6049486587)
completed without findings on the final code.
- Added 24 regression cases covering read-state metadata, arbitrary
future metadata, HTTP discovery, missing/malformed push fields, and
invalid extension advertisements. The six compatibility/discovery cases
fail on unchanged main and pass with the fix.
- All 55 focused descriptor, bootstrap, capability, and revocation tests
pass. Mobile formatting and analysis pass.
- Full mobile gate passes: 3,063 tests passed and four skipped with a
configured gateway, plus all three tests for an unconfigured gateway
build and the gateway recipe checks.
- [Current-head
CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/actions/runs/37706738403) passes,
including Flutter tests, Android debug APK compilation, the complete iOS
simulator app, and the unsigned iOS release build.
- Production HTTP descriptor discovery against live personal-relay
metadata passes without enrollment or relay changes.
- Device enrollment, delivery, notification tap, and opt-out remain to
be exercised in the updated iOS candidate. No relay or device state was
changed.

9322289364 feat(mobile): follow the portable mention rules, including DMs (#8102)
🤖
## Summary
The mobile app's @mention chooser now follows the same rules as the
desktop app (buzz-app). The same typed text finds the same people in the
same order on both apps, and sending works the same way.

- **Same matching and order.** Mobile uses the shared mention rules and
runs their shared test cases. A multi-word search such as `@Mary J`
still searches the community directory, so it can find "Mary Jane" even
when she is not in the channel.
- **DMs can mention people outside the DM.** The chooser marks them "not
in DM". Nobody can be added to a DM, so the message sends without a
prompt. Outside people go out as references, so they are not notified.
This matches buzz-app #510.
- **Channels still ask.** In a stream or forum, mentioning someone
outside the channel asks "Invite" or "Do nothing" before the message
sends. A channel with no type tag counts as a stream.
- **Sessions do not search the directory.** Only session members appear.
- **A failed directory search stays visible.** The chooser shows the
error and a Retry button. Before, it closed.
- **Search results stay in their community.** If you switch communities
while a search runs, its people and its error do not show in the new
community. The search starts again there.
- **A failed send check keeps the draft.** Before a message with a
mention sends, the app checks who is in the channel. If that check
fails, the message stays in the compose bar and a notice offers Retry.
Before, nothing was sent and nothing was shown.
- **Invite stays in its community.** If you switch communities while the
"Invite" question is open, Invite adds nobody.

### Details
- `mobile/lib/shared/mentions/mention_rules.dart` holds the rules: query
syntax, match tiers, sort order, Space selection of an exact unique
name, stable rows while results arrive, and `p` and `mention` tags. A
`p` tag notifies the person. A `mention` tag is a reference and does not
notify.
- `mobile/test/shared/mentions/mention-rules.fixtures.json` is an exact
copy of the buzz-app fixture file. `mention_rules_test.dart` runs every
case.
- Known difference: desktop gives the directory to a channel with an
unknown explicit type (not stream, forum, DM or session). Mobile does
not. No such type exists today.

166d383ca7 feat(mobile): read web app catch-up marks for unread state (#8103)
🤖

## Summary
The web and desktop app (`buzz-app`) saves a "caught up" mark when you
scroll to the bottom of a channel and stay there, and another one for a
thread. Mobile did not understand these marks. It relied on the separate
per-message read marks that `buzz-app` also kept. `buzz-app` is about to
stop keeping those per-message marks under the "caught up" mark
(block/buzz-app#590), to save space in the synced read state.

With this change, mobile reads the "caught up" marks with the same rules
as `buzz-app`:
- `activity:<channel>` reads ordinary top-level messages up to its time.
It does not read thread replies, mentions, broadcasts or DM messages,
because reaching the bottom of the channel does not prove you saw those.
- `thread-activity:<root>` reads the replies in that thread up to its
time.

So a message you read in `buzz-app` stays read on mobile: in the app
badge, the channel list unread state, the "new messages" divider when
you open a channel, and the Mark read / Mark unread action.

Mobile does not write these marks. It only reads them.

### Related issue
None found. Companion to block/buzz-app#590. The old desktop app in this
repo is intentionally not changed.

### Testing
- New badge tests: `activity:` clears an ordinary top-level message, and
does not clear a mention, a thread reply or a DM. `thread-activity:`
clears replies in its own thread only. The two "clears" tests fail
without this change.
- New tests for the per-message read check and the "ordinary message"
rule.
- `flutter analyze`, `dart format` check and the full mobile test suite
pass locally.
- Not yet exercised on a device.

5173fad660 feat(pairing): enter desktop codes on mobile (#8085)
## Summary
Enter a desktop-only, random six-digit code on mobile to pair without a
desktop confirmation click. Verification uses the encrypted session,
limits guesses to five, and never treats the QR-derived transcript as
approval. Older clients retain desktop confirmation.

Adds digit-only error shakes and native haptics, a separate biometrics
choice, and a direct community-icon arrival animation. Fixes dropped
early offers and resets completed pairing so reopening or signing out
cannot get stuck.

### Release order
Deploy the updated pairing relay first, then desktop, then mobile. The
relay now allows eight events per connection (seven for a successful
fifth guess plus room for cancellation), with a corresponding bounded
delivery budget. Existing clients remain supported; older client
combinations keep desktop confirmation.

### Testing
- 103 mobile pairing tests, 270 core tests, 51 relay integration tests,
and the new real-relay fifth-guess flow passed.
- The real-relay regression verifies proof, decrypted identity import,
and completion after four wrong guesses. Restoring the old six-event cap
makes it fail.
- A paused-clock desktop regression confirms slow readiness cannot
extend the visible QR beyond protocol expiry. Mobile regression covers
typing before negotiation completes.
- Core/pair-relay Clippy and full native desktop Clippy/workspace tests
passed. Mobile analysis passed; broad mobile runs each hit an unrelated
failure (a gateway-script timeout and a native-menu missing-plugin
error), and both affected test files passed separately.
- Repository-wide Rust testing exhausted local disk space while
compiling unrelated packages. The final push omitted that
resource-blocked hook and avoided repeating the desktop/mobile runs
above; hosted CI remains required.

8746bfebff Polish iOS header glass and scroll-edge blur (#8097)
Wrap channel and DM titles in native glass and remove the
temporary-channel clock. Apply a soft status-area fade across iPhone
navigation, and fade the large title with scroll progress and fade in
the centered title, with Reduce Motion support.

Validation: mobile formatting/analysis and the full mobile suite passed.
Native iOS 26/27 simulator checks covered actual text opacity, header
resizing, quick reversal, and restored heading position; signed iPhone
build, installation, and launch succeeded. `just ci` was blocked by disk

46e60206a4 fix(mobile): fill and stabilize content-aware loading placeholders (#8083)
Fill mobile loading views across the screen and use known image, video,
voice-note, and file shapes in message placeholders. Freeze each loading
cycle’s layout so arriving metadata cannot reshuffle the shimmer just
before content appears; preserve cached Home and forum content during

and launched the loading changes on Pixel 10 before the latest main
merge. Full `just ci` was stopped during desktop checks due to low disk

03f24a69bf feat(mobile): add iOS Liquid Glass tabs and quick actions (#8080)
## Summary

Use native Liquid Glass for the iOS tab bar and expanding + menu,
preserving the existing Lucide icons, icon-only layout, badges,
accessibility labels, and tab interactions. The + uses black-tinted
glass with white controls; the selected tab has a subtle theme accent
(6% blended into the existing selection color). Android retains its
current styling.

d2da104d94 feat(mobile): add animated community switcher (#8076)
## Summary

Replace the community switch sheet with a two-column picker. Selection
enlarges the avatar, waits with the voice-note loader for destination
channel content and layout to settle, then follows a curved path into
the header.

Cache raster icons at a maximum 512-pixel size and accept only
resource-free emoji SVGs. Cancel timed-out or disposed downloads without
delaying content readiness. Animate Edit badges in place, and open Add
Community on the pairing welcome page. Community removal lives only in
the switcher’s Edit mode. Keep the flow shared across Android/iOS, with
native iOS controls and removal confirmation, and clear navigation
backgrounds at rest.

### Related issue

### Testing

- 122 focused Flutter regression tests and seven native iOS tests passed
after merging the latest navigation changes from `main`. Earlier feature
build installed and launched on a physical iPhone.
- Full mobile pre-push checks passed; regression coverage includes
gradient rendering, rejected/oversized icons, bounded persisted raster
decoding, SVG resource rejection and cache migration, timeout/disposal
cancellation, disconnected destination channels, degraded unread-history
settlement, and switching while icons refresh. Full `just ci` stopped
during Rust checks for low disk space. Hosted CI remains required.

6cf4582002 Use native iOS navigation bars with large titles and avatars (#8052)
## Summary

Use UIKit navigation bars across iOS pages, with large titles that
collapse into the toolbar on scroll and a light native blur. Home uses
the active community name as its title and shows community and profile
avatars with centered emoji and stable loading, without flashing back to
icons. Channel headers retain the member count, tap-to-settings title,
and Huddle action. Their ultra-thin native material has a soft lower
edge and stays visible at the timeline bottom. The hidden title-layout
scroll view has its automatic edge effects disabled so it cannot add a
second backdrop.

33f54de2dd feat(mobile): organize community and profile settings (#8056)
## Summary

Move Invite, Appearance, and Remove community into a **Community
settings** section in the community-avatar sheet, above the existing
switcher. Keep the sheet untitled and use circle-minus for removal.

Personal Settings groups **Set status** and **Copy public key (npub)**
above an untitled card containing **Display name**, **Profile
description**, and **Edit photo**. Remove the leading icons from status,
public key, and Send identity to desktop; keep the latter in its own
untitled card. Remove the avatar status badge and top Edit action, and
rename the Theme page to **Appearance**. Opening the presence chip
triggers selection haptics; copying plays native iOS success feedback
and confirms with “Public key (npub) copied.”

### Testing

- Mobile formatting, analysis, and file-size checks passed.
- 111 affected widget tests passed; all 48 settings tests passed again
after the final labels and icon changes.
- Final release build installed and launched on a physical iPhone in the
separate Buzz Community preview, retaining its existing test account.
- Full repository `just ci` was blocked by local disk exhaustion during
Rust compilation. The full mobile suite passed (2,609 passed, four
skipped), plus three push-unconfigured tests. The presence and copy
feedback passed focused widget tests and analysis, including native iOS
success-channel coverage.

7a1910e700 feat(mobile): show contextual names in lists, Search and Pulse (#7896)
🤖
## Summary

This PR finishes the change on the remaining mobile screens. After it,
every place that names a person or agent uses a contextual name:

- The channel list, DM labels, and the new-DM picker
- The channel header and details, and the members and add-members sheets
- Huddle avatars, spotlight, and overlay
- The Activity inbox
- Search results for people and messages
- Pulse notes, agent cards, and reply previews

Screens that belong to a channel compare names against its members.
Search, Pulse, and the new-DM picker have no channel, so they compare
the identities shown together. In the example below, Search showed four
results all named "murderbot". Now the human keeps the plain name, and
baxen's three agents are labeled by owner and key suffix.

Part 3 of 3: #7894 (resolver) → #7895 (conversations) → #7896 (lists,
Search, Pulse).

### Related issue

problem in a different app.

### Testing

- Widget tests cover the Activity inbox, Search, and Pulse notes with
colliding names.
- `flutter analyze` is clean, and the full `flutter test` suite passes.
- Checked on an Android emulator against the live relay by searching for
"murderbot". The after image also shows "classy-murderbot", a new

Logan Johnson
4ef23609b7 feat(mobile): show contextual names in channel conversations (#7895)
🤖
## Summary

In a channel conversation, two identities with the same display name
looked identical. In the example below, the channel shows "Bad Janet"
twice, for two different identities. A reader cannot tell which one was
added and then removed.

This PR uses the contextual names from the previous PR everywhere a
conversation names someone:

- Message authors, threads, forum posts and replies
- Reactions, the typing indicator, and system rows (joined, added,
removed)
- Inline mentions and the agent activity sheet
- The profile sheet title, which now matches the row that opened it

Names are compared against the channel's members, so a label only gets
longer when a real collision exists in that channel.

The mention picker labels each choice against every candidate, so two
"Honey" choices look different. When you pick one, it still inserts the
identity's own name ("@Honey"), so the message text does not change.

Part 2 of 3: #7894 (resolver) → #7895 (conversations) → #7896 (lists,
Search, Pulse).

### Related issue

Related to #2910.

### Testing

- A widget test checks that the profile sheet names an author the same
way the channel does.
- A unit test checks that two same-name mention choices get different
labels but insert the same wire name.
- `flutter analyze` is clean, and the full `flutter test` suite passes.
- Checked on an Android emulator against the live relay, in an archived
channel with two identities named "Bad Janet".

Logan Johnson
efe04288ea feat(mobile): add the contextual identity-name resolver (#7894)
🤖
## Summary

When two identities share a display name, Buzz mobile shows the same
label for both. A reader cannot tell a person from an agent, or one
person's agent from another's. For example, a channel can show three
agents and one human all named "murderbot".

This PR adds the naming rules that fix this, without changing any screen
yet. It ports the contextual identity-name contract (v1) from the
desktop app to Dart. Given the identities shown together, the resolver
gives each public key a distinct label:

- A human keeps the plain name. Agents that share it get a qualifier.
- The viewer's own agents are named before other people's agents.
- An agent is qualified by its owner's name first ("Wes's Honey"). A
short public-key suffix is added only if that is still ambiguous
("baxen's murderbot · xa8v").

It also adds two providers that screens will use:

- `channelIdentityNamesProvider` compares names against a channel's
members, plus any referenced non-member such as an old author or an
outside mention.
- `watchIdentityNames` compares a set of identities shown together
outside a channel, and loads their profiles.

The next PRs in this stack connect these to the screens.

Part 1 of 3: #7894 (resolver) → #7895 (conversations) → #7896 (lists,
Search, Pulse).

### Related issue

Related to #2910 (default "Fizz" agents from different users collide in
one channel).

### Testing

- The contract's 31 portable fixture cases run against the production
resolver. The fixture file is copied unchanged from the contract, so
reviewers can skip it.
- Unit tests cover owner and suffix qualification, the viewer's own
identities, and invalid public keys.
- Provider tests check that a channel keeps its names while its roster
reloads, that an offline cached bot still counts as an agent, and that
changing relay or account never shows the old roster.
- `flutter analyze` is clean.

No UI change, so there are no screenshots.

662014d544 fix(mobile): stale community selection during mobile invite setup (#7951)
Buzz sets up starter channels when a person accepts an invite. If the
phone already had a saved community, the first attempt could fail. Retry
could then succeed.

A delayed read could replace the new active community with the old one.
The read now leaves the saved selection unchanged. The fix also delays
channel-status updates until the channel provider finishes
initialization.

### Before and after

Controlled Flutter app captures against local relays, with the same
delayed storage read. The before capture restores the pre-fix
active-community provider in the test harness. The after capture uses
the fixed provider. These are separate from the native iOS validation
below.

| Before: first attempt fails | After: first attempt succeeds |
| --- | --- |
| ![Before: starter channel setup error with Retry setup

|

### Validation
- Regression tests reproduce the delayed-read ordering and passing
timing control; removing the channel sequencing safeguards makes their
regressions fail.
- Production app against local relays passes the forced race on the
first attempt.
- Native iOS simulator with an existing saved community accepted the
original invite using a fresh identity, joined on the first attempt, and
opened the welcome channel without Retry.

9b1c4f98e2 🤖 perf: bound long-thread aux reads and make query deadlines terminal (#7854)
Long threads (over ~100 replies) time out in desktop. The aux hop that
loads reactions and other e-tag references builds its filter as one
`tags @> …` term per id, joined with `OR`. Past about 100 ids the
planner switches to walking each partition's primary key backward,
expecting to stop early. When few rows actually match, it scans the
whole community. With a dirty GIN pending list, a 188-reply thread never
finishes.

### What changes

- **Set-based e-tag reads (`buzz-db`).** The aux e-tag query now puts
the id set behind a `MATERIALIZED` CTE and matches with `ANY`. Each
e-tag read also runs under a transaction-local `statement_timeout` of 20
s.
- **Terminal timeout contract (`buzz-relay`).** When a read hits the
deadline, the client gets a terminal timeout (`CLOSED` for REQ, the
timeout error for COUNT and search), not a retryable failure.
- **Subscription lifecycle (`buzz-relay`).** The per-connection
subscription map lock is now the lifecycle lock. Claims, replacement,
client `CLOSE`, owner-checked timeout and search cleanup, revoke, and
connection teardown all change the map, the registry, topic refcounts
and terminal frames while holding it. As a result, a timed-out
subscription's `CLOSED` goes out before any replacement with the same id
can claim it, and claims made after teardown are refused.
- **Dropped terminal frame disconnects (`buzz-relay`).** If the `CLOSED`
for a retired subscription (owner-checked timeout or channel eviction)
can't be queued, the relay cancels the connection instead of leaving the
client holding a subscription that will never receive fan-out. A
client-initiated `CLOSE` ack is exempt.
- **COUNT under the same deadline (`buzz-db`).** The fast COUNT path
runs e-tag counts under the same transaction-local 20 s cap as SELECT,
so WS COUNT and HTTP `/count` produce the terminal timeout too.
- **Replica reads surface the deadline (`buzz-db`).** When a
replica-routed read is cancelled by `statement_timeout` (SQLSTATE
`57014`), the error is returned instead of re-running the query on the
writer, which would run the same slow statement. Other replica errors
still fall back to the writer.
`PLANS/REPLICA_FULL_READ_ROUTING_DESIGN.md` records the exception.
- **Deadline handling (desktop).** Only the relay's `query timed out`
counts as a query deadline. A client-side `request timed out` stays
retryable. For one-shot reads a deadline is terminal: the global query
retry (budget 1), thread-replies retry and reaction hydration don't
re-send the same slow query. Reaction ids held back by a deadline are
released when the channel is opened again, so reopening retries them
while same-channel re-renders don't. Live subscriptions, in both the
renderer and the native archive-sync socket, keep treating a deadline
`CLOSED` as transient: they back off and resubscribe with the same
filter instead of being dropped.
- **Deadline handling (mobile).** Mobile recognizes the deadline on both
transports: HTTP `503 {"error":"query timed out"}` and the WS `CLOSED`
reason.
- The root `ProviderScope` retry policy returns no retry for deadline
errors and keeps Riverpod's default backoff for everything else.
  - Background thread-summary recounts don't retry a deadline.
- Forum posts polling pauses while the last load settled on a deadline;
reopening the forum retries.
- A channel's newest-window load surfaces a deadline instead of falling
back to legacy WS history, and the channel list's batched queries return
"unavailable" on a deadline instead of fanning out to per-filter
fallbacks. An unavailable batch is not treated as empty. Known
last-message timestamps and unread state are kept, and unread catch-up
moves `lastMessageAt` forward (never backward) the same way live events
do, so a cold start with no known timestamp still gets one.
- A live subscription that gets a deadline `CLOSED` backs off and
resubscribes with the same filter. History requests still fail on it.
- Settled load failures show a Retry control, matching desktop's
thread-replies error card: a shared `LoadErrorView` on the channel
timeline, forum thread and forum posts list, and an icon button beside
the thread replies summary. While the thread query has no value, the
thread page shows the route snapshot plus live, cached and optimistic
replies, with the loading or error status still visible.
- Other re-sends (reconnect, foreground resume, live events, the unread
backstop, scroll) are not suppressed; each is bounded by the relay's 20
s statement deadline.
- **Long-thread seeder.** `just seed-long-thread [replies]` posts one
thread (default 187 replies) with some reactions to the local dev relay,
for reproducing long threads in the apps. It uses a throwaway key,
refuses non-loopback relays and ignores ambient `BUZZ_*` credentials.
Writes are paced to fit the stock relay rate limit.

**Lifecycle concurrency.** The lock serializes one connection's
subscription changes. Other connections can still be delayed by pressure
on the shared pubsub command queue, and by serial eviction loops waiting
behind a blocked connection. This PR does not claim strict isolation
between connections.

**Recovery vs. load.** Clients stop automatic retries of the same
one-shot read, but they don't remember deadlines across other triggers:
reconnect, resume, live events and the unread backstop can each send the
read again later, bounded by the 20 s statement deadline. A live
subscription that hits the deadline resubscribes with its original
filter under the existing 1–30 s backoff, and against a filter that
keeps timing out it retries at the 30 s cap indefinitely, so the worst
case is one bounded query per subscription every 30 s. `since` is
deliberately not advanced to now on resubscribe, because that would skip
events missed while the subscription was closed. Unchanged from `main`:
when mobile's channel history sync fails with cached messages available,
the cached messages are shown without the error or Retry control.

### Benchmark

Local reproduction on an isolated bench stack (not committed):
- PG16, migrations applied, one 188-reply thread plus 5M background
events in the same community.
- Each request replays the desktop thread-replies filter through the
relay, with `include_aux` on. Times are total ms for 3 runs, with a 60 s
client cap.

GIN pending-list state is controlled with `VACUUM` (clean) or by
refilling the pending list (dirty), and recorded per partition with
`pgstatginindex`. Dirty runs held 402 pending pages on every partition's
tags index at the start and end of each matrix. Clean runs held 0–1
pages (relay startup writes).

| build | GIN pending state | limit 10 | 50 | 100 | 200 (188 ids) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| `main` | clean | 26 / 16 / 13 | 56 / 51 / 52 | 92 / 93 / 95 | 662 /
639 / 641 |
| `main` | dirty | 315 / 298 / 327 | 22141 / 15888 / 16769 | 28992 /
27819 / 28080 | timeout ×3 (>60 s) |
| this PR | clean | 35 / 21 / 14 | 57 / 49 / 48 | 82 / 80 / 75 | 153 /
150 / 135 |
| this PR | dirty | 290 / 254 / 251 | 1257 / 1204 / 1206 | 2432 / 2378 /
2382 | 4333 / 4706 / 5104 |

Baseline `origin/main` `b37e47721`; this PR at `5f2650f5f`, whose e-tag
read builders are identical to the current head. At head `1ad81d868`
against `origin/main` `15d44dcce`, limit 200 measured 145–179 ms clean
(`main` 683–715) and 4.41–4.51 s dirty (`main` timeout ×3).

Every completed cell returns the same signed event set: 209 events, 187
replies at limit 200. With `include_aux` off, every cell is ≤66 ms. The
thread-window loader (`select_aux`) is unchanged from `main`, and its
timings and captured plans match `main`'s.

Actual aux-hop statements captured from each relay binary with
`auto_explain` (analyze + buffers), execution ms:

| build | clean, 100 ids | clean, 188 ids | dirty, 100 ids | dirty, 188
ids |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `main` (N-way `OR`) | 40 | 298 | 28785 | 62892 |
| this PR (`MATERIALIZED` fence + `ANY`) | 23 | 45 | 1992 | 3539 |

**What the fence changes**
- On `main`, the planner combines `ORDER BY created_at … LIMIT` with an
overestimated match count and walks each partition's primary key
backward, expecting to stop early. With few real matches it scans the
whole community: the dirty 188-id statement touches ~4.9M shared buffers
on `main` vs ~0.6M with the fence.
- The fence prevents that early-stop plan. Across the measured cases
(1–188 ids, both pending states), the planner used the GIN tags index.
The fence doesn't force GIN in general; a broad enough filter could
still get a different plan.

**Tradeoff:** the fence materializes every match before sorting. In this
bench small limits stayed within run-to-run noise of `main`. A single
hot id (5,000 reactions, limit 100) measured 30–34 ms unfenced vs 35 ms
fenced.

**Deadline:** each e-tag read (SELECT and COUNT) runs under a
transaction-local `statement_timeout` of 20 s. It only tightens: a
shorter operator timeout (`BUZZ_DB_STATEMENT_TIMEOUT_MS`) is kept. It's
a per-statement limit, not a per-request one, so a request that runs
several pages or hops can take longer than 20 s in total. The benchmark
does not force the deadline.

f7ff4294fa feat(nip-fi): harden Blossom kind-24242 verifier to NIP-FI spec (#7288)
Brings `buzz-media`, `buzz-relay`, all first-party kind-24242 minters,
and desktop token minting into compliance with [NIP-FI
§kind-24242](https://github.com/block/buzz/blob/main/docs/nips/NIP-FI.md).

## What changed

**`buzz-media/src/auth.rs`**
- Add `BlossomStrictness` enum (`Strict` | `Permissive`). `Strict`
applies full NIP-FI rules (active modes); `Permissive` preserves
pre-NIP-FI Off-mode behavior byte-identical [FI-INV-15].
- Rewrite `verify_blossom_auth_event_for_verb` with count-based
cardinality: exactly one `t`/`expiration`/`server` in `Strict`;
duplicate `x` also rejected. `Permissive` keeps main's boolean semantics
exactly: any valued `t` other than the verb (including `""`) rejects,
valueless `t` is ignored.
- `Strict`: mandatory `server` tag on all proofs (upload + read); absent
or mismatched → `evidence_rejected` (`ServerMismatch`).
- `Strict`: 60-second proof window (`now - created_at <= 60s`,
`expiration <= created_at + 60s`). `Permissive`: 3600s / optional
server.
- **[F1]** Permissive server validation uses any-match semantics: a
proof with multiple `server` tags is accepted if any tag matches the
bound host. This restores origin/main base behavior. Strict
duplicate-rejection unchanged.
- **[F1 compat]** Permissive server gate uses `server_values.is_empty()`
(valued tags only) rather than `server_count > 0` (includes valueless
tags). A lone valueless `["server"]` tag is treated as absent in
Permissive/Off mode, matching pre-NIP-FI base behavior [FI-INV-15].
- **[F4]** Valueless `x` tags in Strict get reads are tracked before
`filter_map` so they cannot become absent scope (host-wide
authorization). Any `x` tag present in Strict must contain the exact
requested sha256.
- **[F3 unit]** Cases A–D in `auth.rs` are helper-level unit tests: they
call `verify_blossom_upload_auth` and `verify_upload_hash_only`
directly. They do not enter the upload pipeline
(`process_upload`/`process_video_upload`). Retained as helper evidence.

**`buzz-media/src/error.rs`**
- Add `DuplicateTag(&'static str)` variant.
- Add `blossom_denial_kind()` method: classifies each auth error as
`MissingEvidence`, `EvidenceRejected`, or `AuthorizationDenied`.
Non-auth errors return `None`.
- `IntoResponse` retains the legacy JSON 401 shape [FI-INV-15].

**`buzz-relay/src/api/media.rs`**
- Add `MediaDenial(MediaError, BlossomStrictness)` wrapper mapping to
byte-exact NIP-FI fixed responses in `Strict`; falls through to legacy
JSON in `Permissive`.
- `blossom_strictness_from_state()` selects `Strict` when
`state.config.nip_fi.is_enforce()`, otherwise `Permissive`. Strictness
is threaded through the `admit_nip_fi_http_on_state` NIP-98 closures on
upload and read, and through the post-admission X-SHA-256, hash-binding,
and membership denials.
- `extract_blossom_auth` keeps first-value `Authorization` extraction;
Enforce rejects repeated fields at the `admit_nip_fi_http` cardinality
gate, and Off keeps legacy behavior [FI-INV-15].
- Both membership-denial call sites use
`media_denial(RelayMembershipRequired, strictness)` so Strict mode
produces the correct fixed-text response.
- `upload_blob` serving-write fence conversion (`:406`) uses
`map_err(|e| media_denial(e, strictness))` — a community fence committed
between auth admission and lease acquisition no longer resets Strict to
Permissive.
- Mode-driven regressions in `mod postgres_tests` (selected by the
nextest `postgres-ci` profile via `test(/postgres_tests::/)`, `#[ignore
= "requires Postgres"]`), run through the full relay router with a real
Enforce verifier and assertion: Enforce rejects Permissive-only proofs
(300s lifetime, missing `server` tag) on both upload routes and reads
with `evidence rejected`; Off accepts the same proofs with pre-NIP-FI
responses; DenyProtected answers 503 before any proof check; membership
denials are `authorization denied` text/plain in Enforce and exact
legacy JSON 403 in Off, with a member positive control. GET and HEAD are
each discriminated (HEAD with a suppressed body). Both upload routes pin
the handler's `X-SHA-256` missing/malformed/unsigned and post-body
hash-mismatch denials in both modes. Off rejects an empty-valued `t`
beside a valid one with legacy 401 JSON in either order, and ignores a
valueless one. Exact status, Content-Type, challenge, and body bytes are
pinned.

**`buzz-media/src/upload.rs`** (`mod minio_tests`)
- **[F3 pipeline]** Four tests exercising the actual post-body call
sites (`process_upload` `:85`, `process_video_upload` `:413`) with real
MinIO I/O: buffered/streaming × expired-proof-accept +
mismatched-hash-reject. The positive cases use
`fresh_strict_upload_auth` (`created_at = now-58`, `expiration = now+2`,
lifetime = 60s) — Strict-admissible at sign time — followed by a real 3s
sleep so the proof is expired when the upload completes.
`nostr::Timestamp::now()` reads the OS wall clock directly; paused Tokio
time does not advance it. The negative cases use a pre-expired proof
with a mismatched `x` tag. All four are `#[ignore = "requires MinIO"]`;
no CI lane runs them automatically.

**`buzz-media/src/validation.rs`**
- `minimal_valid_mp4()` promoted to `#[cfg(test)] pub(crate)` — a
618-byte pre-computed H.264/avc1 fast-start MP4 available to all
`buzz-media` test modules; smoke-tested by
`test_minimal_valid_mp4_passes_validate_video_file`.

**`desktop/src-tauri/src/commands/media.rs`**
- `sign_blossom_upload_auth`: `server` tag mandatory; upload expiry 60s
(was 3600s/300s).
- `MEDIA_GET_AUTH_EXPIRY_SECS`: 60s (was 600s).

**`desktop/src-tauri/src/media_proxy.rs`**
- Single re-mint+retry on 401/403 for range requests; non-auth failures
do not retry.

**`crates/buzz-cli/src/client.rs`**
- Read expiry: 60s (was 600s). Upload expiry: 60s. `server` tag
mandatory on upload.

**`crates/buzz-dev-mcp/src/view_image.rs`**
- `MEDIA_GET_AUTH_EXPIRY_SECS`: 60s (was 600s). Test updated.

**`mobile/lib/shared/relay/media_auth.dart`**
- `_mediaGetAuthLifetimeSeconds`: 60 (was 600). Refresh margin updated.

**`mobile/lib/shared/relay/media_upload.dart`**
- `_uploadAuthLifetimeSeconds`: 60 (was 300). `server` tag mandatory.

**`mobile/lib/features/channels/media_viewer_page/video_viewer.dart`**
- **[F2]** Remove Android-specific `VideoPlayerController.networkUrl`
streaming path. `video_player_android` 2.9.5 freezes headers into static
`DefaultHttpDataSource` request properties — a 60s proof minted at
controller creation time becomes stale on seeks. All platforms use the
authenticated local-file download path.
- **[F2 transport]** `unawaited(request.sink.close())` before
`client.send()`. `AbortableStreamedRequest` carries no request body;
without closing the sink, `IOClient.send()` awaits
`stream.pipe(ioRequest)` which blocks until the sink ends — every video
download hung in loading indefinitely on every platform.
- **[F2 pending-ctrl]** `pendingController` ref set before the first
`await (initialize())`, cleared in all exit paths. Effect cleanup
disposes `pendingController.value` so a close-during-init releases the
native player even if the initialized event never arrives.
- **[F2r(a)]** On native init failure (post-create,
pre-initialized-event), the inner catch starts disposal detached via
`unawaited(localController.dispose().catchError(...))` — the
`.catchError` handler absorbs any disposal exception so it does not
reach the test error zone — then rethrows the original load error.
`video_player` 2.11.1 completes the init future with an error without
disposing the native player.
- **[F2r(b)]** Non-2xx error body cancelled via `_cancelVideoResponse()`
(subscribe+cancel) instead of `drain()`. `drain()` waits for the
upstream to close; a stalled server body blocked `initializeVideo`
indefinitely.
- **[F2r(d)]** `unawaited(localController.dispose().catchError(...))` in
the catch — not `await`. Two failure mechanisms exist: (1) when
`createWithOptions()` throws, `_creatingCompleter` is never completed
and `await dispose()` deadlocks at `:682-683`, blocking the outer catch
from setting error state. (2) when `createWithOptions()` succeeds but
initialization fails, `dispose()` runs but its thrown exception becomes
an unhandled async error reaching the test zone. Both are fixed:
`unawaited` lets the outer catch run immediately and set `error.value`;
`.catchError(...)` on the detached disposal future absorbs any disposal
exception.

**`mobile/test/features/channels/media_viewer_page/video_viewer_test.dart`**
- `_FinalizingFakeClient`: calls `request.finalize().drain()` — a test
without the sink fix times out because the drain never completes,
validating the transport contract.
- F2r(a): `forceInitError=true` fake emits `PlatformException` on
subscribe; `disposeCallCount >= 1` verifies disposal even on init
failure.
- F2r(b): `stalledBody` `StreamController` with `onCancel` Completer
(bounded completion signal, not a sleep). Asserts: (1)
`bodyStreamCancelled=true` while body stream is still open (impossible
with `drain()`); (2) error UI visible while body remains open. Restoring
`drain()` breaks both.
- F2r(c): `neverInitialize=true` fake never sends initialized event;
unmount asserts `disposeCallCount >= 1` via `pendingController`.
Distinct from the event-error case.
- F2r(d): `forceCreateError=true` fake throws `PlatformException` from
`createWithOptions()` itself (before any player ID is returned). Asserts
error UI visible within a bounded deadline. With the old `await
dispose()` the outer catch is blocked — `error.value` is never set and
the error UI assertion fails at the deadline; with
`unawaited(dispose())` the error text appears immediately.

**`mobile/test/features/channels/media_viewer_page/video_viewer_transport_test.dart`**
(separate file)
- Real-IO loopback probes using `flutter_test` (not `package:test`) to
avoid `depend_on_referenced_packages` lint. No
`TestWidgetsFlutterBinding` — no HttpClient override interfering with
`dart:io`.
- Probe 1: `HttpServer.bind(loopbackIPv4, 0)` reads the full request
body before replying. Without `sink.close()`, `req.drain()` hangs and
the test times out.
- Probe 2: server signals request arrival via a Completer (not a sleep);
abort fires after confirmed arrival; `client.send()` must throw
`RequestAbortedException` (typed assertion) within a bounded 5s
deadline.

**`scripts/test-video-upload.sh`**
- Proof minted with `+60` expiry and mandatory `server` tag.

**`buzz-test-client/tests/e2e_media*.rs`** +
**`buzz-relay/src/api/media.rs` test fixtures**
- All fixtures updated to 55s expiry + `server` tag.

**`RELEASING.md`**
- New "NIP-FI upload proof freshness (relay floor)" section documenting
that 60s proofs require the first relay release carrying this PR's
post-body hash-only check (the first tag > `v0.2.1` — update once cut)
for reliable large-file uploads. Operators on older self-hosted relays
(≤ `v0.2.1`) must upgrade before receiving these clients.

## Finding 3: 60s upload proofs vs old-relay compatibility

Desktop/CLI/mobile upload proofs are now 60s. Older relays re-run full
expiry verification after the body is transferred. A valid upload whose
body transfer takes >60s will fail on an old relay.

**Resolution (relay floor prerequisite):** `RELEASING.md` requires that
verified supported deployments (relay releases confirmed to carry the
post-body hash-only check, commit `75e9bef748`) be in place before
distributing 60s-proof client builds. Unknown or unverified self-hosted
relay deployments are excluded from distribution until they upgrade.
This makes the verified-deployment status a prerequisite for release
distribution, not a post-distribution advisory. The concrete tag (`>
v0.2.1`) is to be recorded once cut.

## Sequencing note

Builds on #7264 (merged): Blossom strictness is derived from its
`config.nip_fi` mode in this PR, so enabling `BUZZ_NIP_FI_MODE=enforce`
activates the strict verifier with no further wiring.

## GIF compatibility exception

An unauthenticated Off-mode request on a configured tenant with no GIF
provider changes from 404 to 401 (base `gifs.rs:269-275` checked an
unconfigured provider first; the current code authenticates first). All
other Off-mode Blossom responses are byte-identical to pre-NIP-FI
behavior.

4af2324d85 fix(mobile): keep relay sessions stable during push lease updates (#7745)
Enabling push notifications could repeatedly reset the relay session:
reserving a lease generation updates community metadata, which rebuilt
the relay configuration even though the connection identity was
unchanged. This made the avatar and inbox flash and prevented the new
lease from publishing.

Select only the community ID, relay URL, and signing identity as
configuration dependencies. Push bookkeeping keeps the session intact;
real community, URL, and identity changes still notify listeners.

### Validation
The production-provider regression test failed before the fix and passes
afterward; 48 focused mobile tests and static analysis pass.

A personal signed profile build on a physical iPhone published a fresh
lease and received a background notification with the actual message
text. The user confirmed the flashing stopped and tapping the
notification opened the correct community/channel and highlighted the
exact message.

779af8886c fix(mobile): fail open when age checks are unavailable (#7714)
Age-check errors previously blocked Buzz startup. Normal app startup now
proceeds immediately; only a valid under-18 response from the current
launch request can restrict access.

Age check enforcement remains disabled at compile time by default.
Builds can opt in with `--dart-define=BUZZ_AGE_GATING_ENABLED=true`.

b8aa0233f9 perf(mobile): verify notification cache events in background (#7650)
On iOS, Buzz stores verified profile and channel information for the
notification extension. The extension uses this cache to show sender and
channel names. Loading profiles or channels also updates the cache.

Cache updates currently check event signatures on the UI thread, even
when the caller does not wait for the update. This can delay taps and
screen updates. This change moves those checks to a background worker.
Signature checks, event selection, community boundaries, and the order
of native writes are preserved.

The worker accepts up to eight batches. When it is busy, later profile
requests stay coalesced before fetching; profiles already loaded remain
available immediately. Overlapping channel updates trigger a fresh
joined-channel cache snapshot after the current export finishes, without
delaying or restarting the channel screen. Queue saturation gets up to
five retries per operation. Pending updates get their own recovery
attempt even if the preceding export fails. Recovery fetches
joined-channel data once and retries cache admission without repeating
relay reads. It does not fetch the open-channel directory. Verified
payloads are split into native-sized writes (256 profiles or 512 paired
channels), keeping the same export ordering. Native profile/channel
write failures retry the same verified chunk while retaining the
export's queue position. All chunks share five retries with 7.75 seconds
total backoff; other native errors fail immediately. Terminal failures
are recorded, and later successful writes do not hide them. Captured
batches keep their original community. Pending channel refetches are
retired on a community switch and refreshed when the user returns. The
cache remains best effort; prolonged failures can still prevent
delivery.

Tests through the production APIs reduced UI delay from 27–31 ms to
below 0.3 ms for four profiles, and from 59–60 ms to below 0.3 ms for
four channel and membership pairs. The native payloads were identical.
This does not measure overall screen speed.

Validation: 2,225 mobile tests passed (one skipped), along with 18
focused export tests, 12 recovery tests, 39 native Swift tests, 35
focused profile tests, and static analysis. Production regressions cover
13-entity bursts, invalid newer events, community rebuilds, reentrant
refreshes, and terminal failures. Regression tests fail when producer
recovery controls, terminal-failure draining, or member-only recovery
scope are removed.

76f7e5ef0c feat(push): make gateway origin configurable (#7261)
Make the push gateway origin configurable across the relay, gateway,
mobile client, and deployment chart.

This is a fresh deployment. The gateway has only run on personal
development infrastructure, and push has no existing enabled users.
Legacy migration, configured-to-unconfigured mobile transitions, and
rolling upgrades from pre-launch gateway binaries are not supported.

Populated pre-launch databases are rejected with an informative error
before migrations run; their data is untouched. Mobile builds may omit
the gateway URL, leaving push unavailable. Once push is enabled,
subsequent builds must retain that configuration.

### Validation

- All applicable CI checks pass at
`5f546cfaf403f0386f146d213adfb4392f4ec29c`, including Rust,
mobile/Swift, desktop/integration, security, image builds, and Helm
checks. An unrelated agent cancellation test passed on retry.
- PostgreSQL CI passed 384 tests, including the production-entry-point
regression for refusing populated pre-launch databases before
migrations, fresh initialization, and subsequent initialized
deployments.
- Focused local validation passed all 10 gateway PostgreSQL tests under
the CI discovery filter and all 3 unconfigured-mobile tests.
Repository-wide PostgreSQL discovery validation and the complete
pre-push hooks passed.
- Physical-device APNs/App Attest behavior and deployment to a live
cluster were not verified in this work.

41c5ace937 perf(mobile): move profile sig checks off main thread (#7648)
The mobile app loads user profiles to show names, avatars, and agent
ownership. Some profiles include a signature that proves who owns the
agent. Checking these signatures for a batch of profiles can block
interaction because the checks run on the same thread that draws the
screen and handles input.

This change moves profile batch parsing and signature checks to a
background worker. It processes one batch at a time and combines queued
profile requests. It keeps the same signature checks, preserves newer
profiles that arrive while a batch runs, and discards results after a
community change. Individual live profile updates still use synchronous
verification.

Tests cover newer live updates, community changes, overlapping requests,
stale malformed events, and UI timer responsiveness through the
production parser. The responsiveness test fails if parsing is moved
back to the UI isolate. A regression also exercises a confirmed profile
save while an older batch is paused, including preservation of verified
ownership. All 38 focused tests, all 2,132 mobile tests, and the
analyzer pass.

With 500 valid owner signatures, an AOT test reduced the main-isolate
timer delay from about 3.4 seconds to less than a millisecond. Total
verification time stayed similar. This measures verification work, not
overall screen speed.

GitHub CI passes. The full local test run failed on two timing-sensitive
ACP tests in unchanged Rust code; both passed isolated retries. All
other local checks passed, including the downstream tests and builds run
after that failure.

f78a32cf03 feat(mobile): hard-block under-18 users on the store age signal (#4665)
### What changed?

Buzz mobile checks the app-store age signal at launch and hard-blocks
the app behind a full-screen 18+ notice when the store says the
signed-in person is under 18.

No age signal (e.g. declined permission, indeterminate value,
unsupported OS versions) results in no block.

The age value is never persisted. It is read, used to compute one
boolean, and discarded. Nothing is written to disk, and neither the age
value nor the range is logged or sent to analytics.

Platform notes:
- **New dependency `com.google.android.play:age-signals:0.0.4`.** This
is the only way to read the Play signal. Its AAR declares `minSdkVersion
23`, below the app's 24, so it forces **no minSdk bump**, and it
self-declares its own consent activity, so **no AndroidManifest change**
is needed.
- **iOS entitlement and linking.** `DeclaredAgeRange` autolinks from the
import. `Runner.entitlements` now declares
`com.apple.developer.declared-age-range`, and the call remains behind
`#available(iOS 26.0, *)`.

### Why?

App stores now expose a declared-age range, and Buzz's Terms require
users to be 18 or older. This wires the store signal to that rule with
the smallest change that is defensible.

Absent signals, declined or undeterminable results, and unsupported OS
versions allow the app through. A transient native request failure does
not become evidence that access is allowed: the app remains gated until
a retry produces a result. Only an affirmative under-18 signal produces
the permanent restriction screen.

### How is it tested?

Added tests:

-
[`age_signal_provider_test`](https://github.com/block/buzz/tree/main/mobile/test/features/age_gate)
covers the 17/18 boundary, open-ended ranges, no-signal, transient
recovery, bounded retry exhaustion, malformed payloads, and request-once
behavior
-
[`age_gate_app_test`](https://github.com/block/buzz/tree/main/mobile/test/features/age_gate)
proves authenticated content remains unmounted while the signal is
pending or retryable, and verifies the retry path
-
[`age_restriction_page_test`](https://github.com/block/buzz/tree/main/mobile/test/features/age_gate)
asserts the block screen offers no bypass affordance
-
[`community_provider_test`](https://github.com/block/buzz/tree/main/mobile/test/shared/community)
verifies age restriction clears push state, persists inactive leases,
and retries a failed tombstone
-
[`AgeSignalPayloadTest`](https://github.com/block/buzz/tree/main/mobile/android/app/src/test/kotlin/xyz/block/buzz/mobile)
pins the Android success payload to exactly `{status, ageUpper}` and
verifies failures return the distinct retryable platform error

### Deployment note

Enable the Declared Age Range capability and regenerate signing profiles
carrying the entitlement. This relops/App Store Connect task is not
performed by this PR.

d074576871 fix(mobile): bind same-name mentions to exact selected identities (#7385)
<!-- Draft PR body for #7385 · fix(mobile): bind same-name mentions to
exact selected identities · https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7385 -->

🤖

## Summary

If two people in a channel share a display name, mobile couldn't tell
them apart in mentions: picking the second could overwrite the first's
selection, a rendered mention linked whichever same-name person matched
first, and a later rename or a shorter name could re-bind the text to
the wrong recipient. This PR binds every mention to the exact selected
identity:

- Each same-name selection keeps its own recipient instead of
overwriting by name; conflicting picks get a qualified label like `Name
(key…)`.
- The longest matching label wins, so a shorter or interior name can
never claim part of a longer one and steal its identity.
- Rendering resolves recipients by the signed identity key from the
event's tags — never from message text alone — so qualified labels stay
correct regardless of tag order and survive later renames; an untagged
ambiguous label blocks shorter mentions instead of silently re-binding.

Ports the landed Desktop exact-recipient behavior (see
`docs/mention-editor.md`).

### Related issue

- Fixes: N/A. No mobile issue; Desktop's landed exact-recipient fixes
are the reference this ports.
- Independent base (`main`). #7387 (child) persists these exact
selections in saved drafts.
- Landing note: branches in this series overlap in the composer — when
rebasing, keep exact/durable mention bindings, the explicit
invite/reference-only choice, the account/visit/revision fences, and
authorization before membership preparation and publication; don't
resolve conflicts by taking either side wholesale.
- Draft — not requesting merge yet; the security advisory run for this
range timed out without results (no verdict).

### Testing

- Regressions cover same-name collisions, prefix/overlap, removal, tag
order, and renames.
- At `acd841354a692243f1cb4c04059baad42f1d2abb`: `just mobile-check` and
full `just mobile-test` pass (2,082 tests). The earlier full `just ci`
receipt linked below is reused only for unchanged non-mobile
code/tooling, not claimed as a rerun at this head.
- Previous-head evidence: `just mobile-check`, the full mobile test
suite, and full local `just ci` all pass — receipts in the [exact-head
evidence
comment](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7385#issuecomment-5574635836).
- Verification is widget-test level; no native device or simulator run
is claimed.

To see it: mention two teammates with the same display name — both stay
distinct, the second shows a qualified label, and the rendered message
keeps both correct even after either renames.

82656ffea0 fix(mobile): standardize public-key identity display on npub (#7493)
🤖

## Summary

In the mobile app, anyone who hasn't set a display name shows up as a
raw 64-character hex key (e.g. `3a5d4f9c…`) — unreadable, and
unrecognizable as the same identity across screens. Profile and Settings
also let you copy that raw hex. Nostr public keys have a standard
readable form — `npub1…`, the same encoding other Nostr apps and our
desktop app already display. This PR makes every mobile identity surface
render npub instead:

- **Unnamed people everywhere** — message and thread authors, reactions,
typing indicators, member lists, channel details, DM headers and tiles,
inbox, search, forum cards, Pulse notes and reply context, mention
suggestions, and invite rows — now show a compact npub label: first 8 +
last 4 characters of the full npub joined by an ellipsis
(`npub1abcd…wxyz`), the same truncation desktop uses. Previously these
showed truncated raw hex.
- **DM fallback avatars and blank names** — 1:1 DM tiles and headers key
their fallback avatar to the same non-self counterpart the label names,
including self-first participant order; a self-DM keeps its
hex-key-derived initial. Blank or whitespace-only display names fall
back to the compact npub instead of rendering empty, while nonblank
authored names render verbatim (padding included).
- **Profile sheet → "Copy public key"** now copies the full canonical
npub — never raw hex. When the identity string isn't a valid public key,
the copy tile is disabled, so a malformed key never reaches the
clipboard.
- **Settings → Identity (pubkey)** displays and copies the full npub; an
invalid identity reads "Identity unavailable" with copy disabled.
- **Invalid identities never leak truncated raw hex** into the UI
anywhere — they render a neutral "Unknown identity" label.
- **Unchanged on purpose:** display names and verified handles (NIP-05 —
the `name@domain` badge) still render as before. Unnamed avatars keep
distinct per-key initials, derived from the underlying hex key rather
than the npub — otherwise every unnamed key would render the same "N"
initial. Event IDs are not public keys, so they keep their hex
truncation (in Pulse's "Replying to", the parent author shows npub while
an event-id fallback still shows hex). The nevent share link, private
keys, and internal hex storage are untouched. Inputs that accept a key
(invite/member entry) accept both hex and npub and keep working in hex
internally.

### Related issue

closest related: none found. Desktop's parallel npub standardization
lives in the stacked desktop PRs (#7488 foundation, #7489 controls,

directly on `main`, not on those branches).

`44316ff72`; 40 files, +1,345/−154):

- Full mobile suite: 2,098 tests passing (`cd mobile && flutter test`);
`flutter analyze` clean; `dart format --set-exit-if-changed .` clean —
the same checks CI runs.
- Widget/unit coverage at production seams: compact labels and hex-keyed
avatar initials for DM headers/tiles, member rows, mention suggestions,
and Pulse reply context; DM fallback avatars keyed to the labeled
counterpart (self-first order and self-DMs); blank/whitespace
display-name npub fallback with nonblank authored labels verbatim,
including the Activity inbox sender and profile-sheet heading (each with
its own empty/whitespace production-seam regression); full-npub copy and
disabled-copy semantics in profile and settings; invalid-key
suppression; and hex↔npub input round-trips.

Verified via unit and widget tests — no device/simulator validation is
claimed.

fa1b27bcc8 fix(mobile): style inline code with the app mono face (#6631)
## Summary

Inline code on mobile renders as **bold body text on a faint background
wash** — no monospace face, no chip, and it cannot wrap. #5257 diagnosed
this as a missing `highlightBuilder`.

That is no longer the right fix. `gpt_markdown` 1.2.0 deprecates
`highlightBuilder` (removal in 2.0.0), renders inline code as a real
chip, and adds `InlineCodeStyle` for restyling it. The package author
confirmed this on the issue. So this PR is an upgrade — 1.1.6 → 1.2.1 —
plus one theme declaration, rather than the builder the issue originally
asked for.

**Where the style is declared.** `GptMarkdownThemeData` goes in
`AppTheme._buildTheme`, which both `light()` and `dark()` call. That
reaches all four `GptMarkdown` call sites — `message_content`,
`transcript_item_widget`, `token_pill`, `custom_emoji_render` — so the
style is stated once instead of per widget. A widget-level
`inlineCodeStyle` would have covered channel messages only, leaving the
other three on the package's defaults.

**What is declared.** Face, size, ink, chip fill and outline — not the
face alone. A face name on its own leaves the rest on the package's
defaults, which put inline code at 14.1sp beside a fenced block's 13, on
a neutral `onSurface` tint rather than the app's code surface. In dark
that tint is *lighter* than the surface, while every other code surface
in the app is recessed, so the chip read as a different kind of object.
All of it now comes from one `CodeStyle` declaration that the fenced
block reads from too, so the two cannot be edited apart.

**Three adaptations the upgrade requires.** Each was found by running
the gate, not by reading the changelog:

1. **`imageBuilder` widened** to `(context, url, width, height)`. This
is a hard compile error, and it is **not listed in the package's
migration guide**, which states "nothing here stops code compiling".
Worth reporting upstream.
2. **`autolink` now defaults to `true`.** `normalizeBareLinks()` already
rewrites bare URLs into Markdown links before rendering, so both would
run. `message_content` opts out with `autolink: false` to keep current
behaviour exactly. The migration guide argues for dropping the
pre-processor instead — a better fix, but a behavioural change that
belongs in its own PR.
3. **`gpt_markdown.dart` now re-exports `markdown_config.dart`**, making
two direct imports redundant. `flutter analyze` reports `No issues
found!` on 1.1.6 and flags both on 1.2.1, so these warnings are new, not
pre-existing.

**Deliberately out of scope.** The three non-message call sites now
autolink bare URLs, since only `message_content` has a pre-processor to
collide with. Custom inline components (`_MentionMd`, `CustomEmojiMd`,
`_ChannelLinkMd`) could additionally declare `allScopesExceptLinkLabel`
— 1.2.0 offers it as the fix for a `WidgetSpan` chip going blank inside
a link label on iOS — but current behaviour is unchanged without it, so
that stays a separate change.

### Related issue

Fixes #5257

Duplicate scan: searched `gpt_markdown`, `inline code mobile`,
`highlightBuilder` and `InlineCodeStyle` across both PRs and issues. No
open PR touches inline code styling. #6135 (link labels) and #6166 (text
selection) also touch mobile Markdown but address different defects.

### Testing

Full gate, `just ci` — exit 0:

| Stage | Result |
|---|---|
| Rust (33 suites) | 4768 passed, 0 failed |
| Desktop | 5799 passed, 0 failed |
| Mobile | **2011 passed**, 0 failed |
| `flutter analyze` | `No issues found!` |
| Desktop + web build | ok |

Run on the branch with `main` merged in, so these numbers match what CI
builds.

**New regression test** — `renders inline code in the app code style`.
It resolves the `CodeTextSpan` the package tags inline code with, which
carries both the resolved `TextStyle` and the colours the chip behind it
is painted with, so face, size, ink, fill and outline are all asserted
rather than a widget's presence. It is negative-controlled: reverting
only the theme declaration fails it with

```text
Expected: a numeric value within <0.001> of <13.0>
  Actual: <14.1>
```

and dropping the declaration entirely falls back to
`packages/gpt_markdown/JetBrainsMono` — so the test measures the real
thing, and it would catch a future regression that silently drops the
theme extension.

The test passes `baseStyle: messageBodyTextStyle`, the style the message
surfaces actually use; the widget's own fallback is the smaller
`bodyMedium`, which would move the expected size.

The test finds paragraphs with `find.byWidgetPredicate((widget) =>
widget is RichText)`, not `find.byType(RichText)`: inline code renders
through `BidiRichText`, a `RichText` subclass, and `byType` matches
exact runtime types.

That is a hazard for any test that reads text back out of a paragraph,
and one landed after this branch was cut:
`message_content_custom_emoji_test.dart` arrived with #6996 and its
`code keeps literal emoji while adjacent known tokens render` case reads
a code span through `find.byType(RichText)`. It passes on `main` and
fails on the merge result, which is what CI builds, so it went red only
once CI was authorized. It now uses the same predicate. The two other
`byType(RichText)` call sites — the rest of that file and
`message_author_meta_test.dart` — were re-run and pass: their content
carries no code span, so the exact type still matches. They were left
alone.
