docs(agents): add open-source boundary and drop private repo list (#9114)
This PR strengthens the public-source boundary in `AGENTS.md` and removes internal deployment details from the contributor guide. - Adds an **Open-source boundary** section that prohibits Block-only identifiers and configuration, including internal community hosts, private repositories, organization-specific SSH users, internal infrastructure, tickets, Slack channels, and personal setups. It explicitly keeps public Builderlab supported. - Clarifies that the rule covers functionality as well as identifiers: OSS features must be generic and useful to any operator or distributor, with no knowledge of one company's internal services, workflows, or identity setup. Block-only functionality belongs in private repositories and may reach this code only through generic settings or documented general-purpose extension points that do not name, detect, or special-case an organization, plugin, or service. - Requires example values in tests, fixtures, docs, and examples, and makes boundary violations blocking. - Removes private build/deployment repository names and the internal deployment flow from the Ecosystem section. It retains the public repository descriptions and a general statement that internal builds and deployments live in private repositories. fix(db): auto-migrate prebuild-guarded indexes on small databases (#8802)
## Problem Migrations `0076`, `0078` and `0081` raise an exception on any table with at least one row unless its index was prebuilt with `CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY`. A relay that runs migrations at startup (`BUZZ_AUTO_MIGRATE`, on by default in the Helm chart) and has data in those tables therefore crash-loops on upgrade: ``` migration error: while executing migration 81: error returned from database: prebuild idx_nip_fi_profile_heads_names concurrently; see docs/profile-search.md ``` `0081` (#9019) hits every auto-migrating relay that has published NIP-FI verified profiles. `0076`/`0078` (#8523) hit any relay with artifact data or channel members. Each of these tables is small enough on such relays that a plain index build takes milliseconds. The root cause is `docs/database.md` Rule 6. It told authors that an index on a populated table MUST be built concurrently by an operator ahead of time, so migrations were written to refuse populated tables. With auto-migration that refusal is a crash loop, not a safe stop. ## Fix The migrations are already applied on some databases, so they can't be edited: sqlx would reject the changed checksums. Instead, `run_migrations_locked` builds their missing indexes first. For each entry in `INLINE_INDEX_BUILDS` (`0076`, `0078`, `0081`), it runs migrations through the version before it, then builds any missing index. Each build is a plain `CREATE INDEX` in its own transaction, under the same 1s `lock_timeout` and 5s `statement_timeout` the migrations use. That is the bounded inline build `0049` already does: - **Small populated databases** upgrade the same way empty ones do. - **Large databases** still fail closed. Only a lock or statement timeout (`55P03` / `57014`) gets the "prebuild concurrently" hint, pointing at that migration's own doc. Other errors pass through unchanged. The blocked migration is not recorded. - **Prebuilt indexes** are found with `to_regclass` and skipped before `CREATE INDEX`, so deployments that prebuilt concurrently never request the writer-conflicting lock. - **Invalid prebuilt indexes** are left for the migration to reject, as before. `CONCURRENTLY` is not used in this path. The runner holds the migration advisory lock, and another replica blocked on that lock holds a snapshot that a concurrent build would wait on. ### Rules - `docs/database.md` Rule 6: with `BUZZ_AUTO_MIGRATE` on, every migration must apply its own change on a populated database and must never refuse one because it has rows. A new index is built inline under the migration's budgets. Only deployments that apply migrations out of band (auto-migration off) prebuild concurrently. - Root `AGENTS.md` (step 4) and `migrations/AGENTS.md` repeat the never-refuse rule. - `docs/artifact-sync-deployment.md` and `docs/profile-search.md` describe the startup behavior first and the concurrent prebuild as the out-of-band path. ## Tests - `populated_database_auto_migrates_through_every_migration` (Postgres) migrates to `0075`, seeds artifact rows, and checks four phases: 1. **Lock held:** while a writer lock is held, the `0076` build fails closed. 2. **Index prebuilt:** with the `0076` index prebuilt, the build is skipped. 3. **Partial `0078`:** a blocked `0078` build keeps the builds before it committed. 4. **Verified profile seeded:** with a verified profile head inserted before `0081`, a final startup succeeds. It asserts that the applied versions equal every embedded migration and that all six indexes are valid, ready and live. - `frozen_prebuild_guards_have_inline_builds` (no database) scans `migrations/`. It fails if any migration refuses a populated table (`RAISE EXCEPTION 'prebuild …`) without an inline build, and if a new guard is added. - `migration_execution_cannot_bypass_schema_destruction_lock` allows exactly one production `run_to`, inside `run_migrations_locked`. ## What got simpler - Auto-migrating relays no longer need a manual, operator-only prebuild step for small deployments. That restores the chart README's contract that `helm upgrade` is the whole upgrade procedure. - Rule 6 no longer steers authors toward refusing populated tables, and a test enforces that. - The change adds one table-driven step for three frozen migrations and no new configuration. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Luke Tornquist <tornquist@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Elrond <28d6302a099e5225b02c4155ac4236e4912603df2ab08dbfc2f4fef08ce598c8@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

docs: mark desktop/ as the deprecated Buzz 0.X app (#8840)
## Summary `desktop/` is the Buzz 0.X desktop app. Buzz 1.0 lives in [block/buzz-app](https://github.com/block/buzz-app), and its README already says so. Nothing in this repo says it, so contributors and agents keep opening feature PRs against `desktop/`. This PR adds the rule in three places: - **`AGENTS.md`**: a notice at the top of "Desktop App" and a note in the repo layout. Agents read this file first. The notice also says that CLI PRs do not update the 0.X agent guidance in `nest_skill.md`. - **`CONTRIBUTING.md`**: a new item in "PRs We're Unlikely to Merge". - **`desktop/README.md`**: a notice at the top. The rule: build desktop features in block/buzz-app, or as a Buzz plugin. Change `desktop/` here only to fix a 0.X bug, or to keep it compiling after a shared crate changes. ## Testing - This PR changes only documentation. docs(agents): add Review-Proven Rule 9, design client paths for the whole fleet (#9106)
## What Adds Review-Proven Rule 9 to `AGENTS.md`: **design every client-driven path for the whole fleet running it at once.** Before an author adds or changes a connect, reconnect, renewal, poll, or catch-up path, they: - count the relay reads it costs per client, and keep reconnect to a delta from the client's cursor - jitter its start and back off with a cap - prefer an event-driven refresh with a long backstop over a short poll - on the relay, check every cache on a connect or auth path at a 0% hit rate, with single-flight misses that survive a saturated pool ## Why Relay load tests keep finding the same class of defect. A path is cheap for one client, but when a rollout drain, node eviction, relay restart, or network blip makes every client run it in the same few seconds, it collapses the relay. Each bullet cites a merged PR that fixed an instance: #4542, #8846, #9012, block/buzz-app#2215 and #2308. Unlike rules 1–8, this one comes from load tests rather than review mining, and the rule text says so. The section intro and the Reviewing bullet now say the rules list includes non-review sources. ## What got simpler Nothing in code. This is one rule added to the existing list. It turns a recurring load-test finding into a check made at planning and review time, so it doesn't keep resurfacing as a late load-test result. ## Validation Docs-only. I checked the diff, the Markdown rendering, and every cited PR number and title. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Luke Tornquist <tornquist@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Elrond <28d6302a099e5225b02c4155ac4236e4912603df2ab08dbfc2f4fef08ce598c8@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

docs(agents): mark desktop/ as legacy, not a reference for mobile (#8868)
Agents working on the mobile app have been looking at `desktop/` for implementation and design cues. `desktop/` will soon be superseded by [block/buzz-app](https://github.com/block/buzz-app), while mobile is current, so it should never serve as that reference. - Root `AGENTS.md`: labels `desktop/` as legacy in the repo layout, adds a callout at the top of the Desktop App section, adds the same guidance to the Mobile App section, and drops "matches desktop" from the mobile theme note. Mobile kind constants now sync with `crates/buzz-core/src/kind.rs` (also in the `nostr_models.dart` comment) instead of desktop. - `VISION_MOBILE.md`: replaces the line that allowed the desktop implementation to inform shared mobile rules, so the vision and agent guidance agree. Written intent still takes priority. ### Validation Documentation-only. Reviewed the diff and links. fix(db): keep pgschema re-apply from dropping runtime partitions (#8487)
## Summary pgschema doesn't compare partition bounds. Re-applying `schema/schema.sql` to a database a relay has used therefore plans `DROP TABLE IF EXISTS ... CASCADE` for every `events` / `delivery_log` monthly the partition manager created at runtime, and those tables' rows are deleted with them. Since #8464 the manager advances the catch-all by default, so any local dev or test database a relay has started against now hits this. One example is the persistent `buzz` database that `scripts/start-relay-for-tests.sh` re-applies. This adds a root `.pgschemaignore` that hides dated monthlies (`events_p2*`, `delivery_log_p2*`) from pgschema. The monthlies declared in `schema/partitions/` are exempted with `!` patterns, so pgschema still manages them. pgschema reads the file from its working directory, and every caller already runs it from the repo root: the test-relay launchers, `postgres-test-setup.sh`, the desktop release smoke and `_ci-relay.yml`. Both partition files now carry a note pointing at it, and AGENTS.md gotcha #7 adds "run pgschema from the repo root" next to the reconcile rule. New-install layout is unchanged. **Why the drops haven't deleted data yet:** on a reconciled database a re-apply also plans to drop and re-add the `events` primary key on the parent and on each declared child. The apply then fails with `cannot drop inherited constraint "events_p2026_01_pkey"` (42P16). That happens with or without this PR. The planned drops run in the same single transaction, so they roll back, and the runtime monthlies have survived so far. Once that primary-key drift is fixed, re-applies will succeed and this ignore file is what keeps them from dropping the runtime monthlies. The primary-key fix is a separate follow-up. ### Related issue Follow-up to #8464. Salvaged from an earlier branch; no existing issue found. ### Testing - `pgschema_reapply_keeps_runtime_partitions` (Postgres) follows the real bootstrap path in a dedicated database: - `bin/pgschema apply` from the repo root, then `scripts/reconcile-schema-after-pgschema.sql`; - the relay's default maintenance pass (create plus advance); - asserts that both catch-alls were attached before the pass and that their bounds moved after it; - asserts that each parent's `p2026_07` monthly exists. The catch-all advanced past the declared bounds but kept its name. - asserts that `pgschema plan` contains no `DROP TABLE` and no line mentioning any runtime monthly. - Falsified both ways: - With `.pgschemaignore` removed, the test fails and prints the planned drops. - Without the reconcile step, it fails with `reconcile did not attach both catch-alls`. - `pgschemaignore_exempts_exactly_the_declared_monthlies` checks that the `!` exemptions exactly match the dated monthlies in `schema/partitions/`. - The admin parity test now shares the `pgschema` helper, so it also runs from the repo root like the real callers. - All `runtime::migration` and `store::partition` tests pass against local Postgres after merging current main, including the ignored ones: 104 passed, run with `--test-threads=1` because the full nextest Postgres lane needs local `dropdb`. `clippy -D warnings` and the pre-push lanes pass. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Ian Oberst <ioberst@block.xyz> Co-authored-by: Ian Oberst <ioberst@block.xyz> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

BUZZ-357: feat(cli): token-lean agent output format for event reads (#8234)
### Why?
Agents read channel history with `buzz messages get/thread`. Every
returned event includes its 128-hex `sig`. Every agent-authored message
also carries a NIP-OA `auth` tag, which is another owner pubkey and a
128-hex signature. An agent can't use either of these, but pays for them
on every history read. Measured with Claude's tokenizer, that is about
88 tokens per human message and about 180 per agent message, so a
history read shrinks 33% for short human messages and 40% once agent
messages are in the mix (details in the comment below). The existing
`compact` format is fixed at `{id, content, created_at}` (#6884), which
drops the author, tags and reply target, so agents can't use it.
### What?
- **New `--format agent` for event reads.** Applies to `messages
get/thread/search` and `feed get`.
- Drops `sig`, and trims the NIP-OA `auth` tag to `["auth", <owner>]` so
agents can still tell an author is an agent and who owns it.
- Folds the NIP-10 `root`/`reply` tags into a `reply_to` field, using
the same resolver as relay ingest, plus `thread_root` on nested replies.
That's the value `messages send --reply-to` takes.
- Keeps every other tag exactly as `json` output shows it: channel,
mentions, edit targets, diff metadata.
- Non-event reads return the same output as `json`.
- **Default for agents.** Without `--format`, the CLI falls back to
`BUZZ_OUTPUT_FORMAT`; an empty or unknown value means `json` with a
warning, so a harness/CLI version mismatch never breaks commands.
buzz-acp sets it to `agent` for every agent runtime through
`default_agent_env` and forwards the effective value in the explicit MCP
server environment, so operator or persona env still wins, and `--format
json` still returns full signed events. buzz-agent adds the variable to
its MCP env allowlist.
- **Docs and cleanup.** The managed-agent skill doc (version bumped to
7) and `AGENTS.md` describe the new default. The two duplicate
`format_events` copies in `messages.rs` and `feed.rs` are now one
`commands/event_output` module, which also does the NIP-10 tag parsing.
The `json` and `compact` output contracts are unchanged.
### Example output
https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/8234#issuecomment-6259679347
### Testing
Started `buzz-acp run` with the deterministic task-agent fixture, then
passed its `session/new` MCP environment to Codex 0.163.0 (`codex
app-server`). With no format override the MCP child received `agent`;
operator overrides of `json` and `compact` reached the MCP child
unchanged. The probes used temporary local sessions and made no model
requests.
### Related
Same change on the other agent read surfaces: each drops `sig`, trims
`auth` to `["auth", <owner>]` and keeps thread context.
- block/buzz-app#1388: buzz-app MCP read lines (text, `claimed
owner`/`reply_to`)
- squareup/cash-server#139132: hosted agents' read tools (JSON events,
raw NIP-10 tags)

docs(db): database target architecture and schema-change rules (#8273)
## Summary Adds `docs/database.md`, which covers two things: - **The target architecture.** `schema/tables/public/` is the declarative source of truth, written within the constraints that out-of-band, online schema tools can apply. Deployments at scale apply schema changes out of band; auto-migration stays supported for smaller and self-hosted deployments, and `migrations/` stays. The database has no triggers, functions, or foreign keys; that behavior lives in the owning application transaction or in durable application work. Data repair runs through the backfill framework in `docs/data-backfills.md`, not through migrations. - **Rules for schema changes made now:** 1. Add no triggers, functions, procedures, rules, or foreign keys, with no exceptions. New tenant-owned tables are fenced by community admission in the application. Startup and deletion validation already tolerate missing fences, but desired-state bootstraps still attach a fence trigger to every `community_id` table, so a new tenant-owned table is blocked until that loop stops (part of the fence-retirement work). The doc includes checklists for adding a tenant-owned table and a provenance-only table. 2. Migrations change schema only. They never mutate existing rows. Until the backfill framework ships, a repair may be a reviewed, idempotent, batched one-off script in `scripts/maintenance/` that takes the community deletion lock and touches only active communities. A repair that writes historical channel events must keep replica routing closed until its WAL has replayed. 3. Update every schema location: `migrations/`, `schema/tables/public/`, the manifest and sibling directories, the pgschema reconcile script where it applies, and both homes of the existing `push_gateway_*` tables (the target is for the gateway to own its tables alone). Never edit a merged migration. Add catalog-level parity tests for what you touch. 4. Every migration must be safe for the relay that is currently deployed, under both supported modes: auto-migration at startup and out-of-band application. Either way the old relay runs against the new schema for a while. Because auto-migration can apply expand and contract in one boot, a contract migration must fail closed when its backfill has not run, and a contract that depends on a writer release (such as dropping a trigger whose work moved into the app) must name that release as a required stop in the release notes, because no row check can prove it. The order is expand, deploy, backfill, then contract. The doc includes a table of changes that break the old relay and the safe form of each. 5. Bound every lock, build `migrations/` indexes concurrently (the declarative schema uses plain `CREATE INDEX`), and keep changes within what out-of-band apply can make online. AGENTS.md (Product Contract), ARCHITECTURE.md (buzz-db), and new path-local `migrations/AGENTS.md`, `schema/AGENTS.md` (a pointer), and `crates/buzz-push-gateway/migrations/AGENTS.md` point to the doc. The path-local files mean agents editing those directories get the rules automatically. AGENTS.md also had a stale claim that migrations are "auto-applied on relay startup". This PR corrects it: `BUZZ_AUTO_MIGRATE` defaults off in the binary and on in the Helm chart, and both modes are supported. ## What got simpler The rules were scattered across `schema/schema.sql` comments, AGENTS.md Common Gotcha #7, the backfill spec, `docs/thread-window-deployment.md`, and test names. They now live in one document, and the rest link to it. No code changes. ## Testing This PR changes documentation only. I checked links and diffs, and every claim in the doc points to code at the base commit: the layout and parity tests in `crates/buzz-db/src/runtime/migration.rs`, `EXPECTED_SCOPED_TABLES` and the serving-catalog check in `crates/buzz-db/src/store/deletion.rs`, and `BUZZ_AUTO_MIGRATE` in `crates/buzz-relay/src/main.rs`. The new `AGENTS.md` files aren't `.sql`, so neither the sqlx migrator nor the schema layout test picks them up; CI's layout, migration-count, and deletion-parity tests pass. At an earlier head, a real relay against isolated PostgreSQL 17 showed that a new unfenced `community_id` table serves normally and makes community deletion report `unknown=<table>`. Since then, the fence requirement at startup was removed on main; the doc now cites `migration_schema_fence_objects_are_optional_for_serving_and_deletion` for that. --------- Signed-off-by: Elrond <28d6302a099e5225b02c4155ac4236e4912603df2ab08dbfc2f4fef08ce598c8@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Elrond <28d6302a099e5225b02c4155ac4236e4912603df2ab08dbfc2f4fef08ce598c8@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

test(mobile): journey-first testing guidance and suite cleanup (#8397)
## Summary This PR does two things. It updates the mobile testing conventions to favor a few journey tests over many small logic tests. It also applies those conventions to the existing mobile suite, one commit per step. ### Testing conventions (`AGENTS.md`, `mobile/README.md`) - Start with one widget journey per user-visible flow, driven through the real widgets, notifiers and coordinators. Assert what the user sees and what is durably saved. - Cover retry, cancel and resume as steps inside the journey, not as separate tests. - Fake only external boundaries (network, relay, OS, browser, storage). - Use focused, table-driven tests only for security and data-loss invariants, protocol or crypto vectors, and pure functions with many input combinations. - When review finds a defect, extend an existing journey or table instead of adding a test per finding. - Delete a lower-level test only once a journey demonstrably catches the same failures. - Every test must fail when the production code it guards is broken. These conventions keep the Review-Proven Rules' safety bar and change only how coverage is organized. ### Suite inventory and plan The suite has 234 Dart test files, about 110k lines and about 2,600 declared tests. Native tests are separate: BuzzPushKit, RunnerTests, NativeControlTests and Android. Line-saving estimates are hypotheses, not a deletion budget. Each deletion needs a replacement that rejects a representative production mutation. 1. **CI and reliability.** Run the native tests CI skipped, make time-dependent tests deterministic, and make tests that could not fail falsifiable. *(done, see below)* 2. **Shared harness.** Add one fake relay (socket plus HTTP boundary, with the real `RelaySessionNotifier`) in `test/helpers/`. Today 38 files each write their own `RelaySessionNotifier` fake. *(done, see below)* 3. **Per-area journeys.** Convert page tests that fake the flow's own notifiers (for example, `channel_detail_page_test` overrides about 60 providers). Fold near-duplicates into tables. Remove constant-pinning, pixel-geometry and call-count tests once a journey covers the outcome. Split `channel_detail_page_test.dart` (17.7k lines). Each area commit reports before/after counts and the mutation it rejects. 4. **CI speed.** Shard by file instead of by test, since every shard currently compiles the whole suite. *(done, see below)* Keep as-is: relay protocol and NIP handling, crypto vectors, auth, push security, persistence and journal invariants, recipient routing, and real-socket transport and cancellation tests. ### Step 1 changes - **Android CI** runs the 23 JVM unit tests, which were never run before. It retries the APK build once, only on SDK or plugin download failures (the cause of 4 recent `main` failures). - **iOS CI** runs all RunnerTests (previously 2 of 99) and the previously uncalled Me-agent accessibility script. The Swift Native lane builds the simulator app once, in the background while the simulator boots and runs the native-control scripts, instead of twice. The lane stays non-required. - **Stale RunnerTests.** Two reaction-details tests still expected the filter list that #8280 replaced; they now cover the toggle list. #8393 moved navigation bar controls onto a shared glass surface and made unknown Tabler symbols assert. The avatar and members-activity tests now find controls on that surface, three tests use real symbol names, and a 240 pt title width pinned to the old control sizes is removed (its gap assertions remain). - **Known bug, not fixed here.** Since #8393 the DM title avatar image is nil, because `makeItem` returns avatar data as a custom-view item. No screen passes a title avatar yet. The test marks it `XCTExpectFailure`. - **Typing retry** and **sections backoff** tests use fake time instead of about 37 s of real sleeps and a `Stopwatch < 100ms` threshold. - **Manage-channel sheet tests** previously asserted inside callbacks that the sheet's `catch (_)` swallows. A wrong saved description made the test loop until killed. The tests now record arguments, assert outside the caught code, and cancel instead of re-presenting endlessly. - **`video_viewer_transport_test` removed.** It exercised only `package:http`. Removing the production `request.sink.close()` already fails `video_viewer_test`. ### Step 2 changes - **`test/helpers/fake_relay.dart`** fakes only the websocket (through the session's socket factory) and the HTTP bridge (through its client). The real `RelaySessionNotifier` still connects from `build()`, handles OK and CLOSED, batches events, backs off and replays subscriptions. - The fake serves the NIP-CW channel window. It can hold OK and live echo independently, reject a chosen publish, and drop the connection. Any request it cannot answer faithfully fails the test at teardown, because the app often catches relay errors and falls back. - **`channel_messages_journey_test`**: history through the channel window, a live message, a send that is pending until OK and stays one row after the echo, a rejected send rolled back, then drop and reconnect with missed and later messages. - **`channel_send_journey_test`**: type and send on `ChannelDetailPage` with no feature-notifier overrides. The row and sending spinner show at once, OK settles them, and a rejected send puts the text back in the composer and shows a snackbar. - Existing per-file relay fakes and `SidebarRelay` are unchanged. Step 3 migrates them area by area. ### Step 4 changes - `scripts/mobile-test-shard.sh` splits the 235 test files across the 3 shards, balanced by line count. `flutter test --total-shards` split tests, so each shard compiled and loaded every file. Locally at 4 workers, one shard took 63 s instead of 73 s and used 40% less CPU. `channel_detail_page_test.dart` (17.7k lines) is now the long pole; splitting it in step 3 shortens the slowest shard. Out of scope here: requiring branches to be up to date before merge (a repository setting), and the onboarding tests in #8375. ## Validation - Mutation checks: - Typing retry bound: test fails. - Sections backoff reset: test fails. - Wrong saved description: fails in about 11 s. The old tests hung instead. - Removed sink close: `video_viewer_test` fails. - Changed Dart files pass locally, and `flutter analyze` is clean. - Android `testDebugUnitTest` passes locally (23 tests). The Me-agent accessibility script passes on a local simulator. - Step 2 mutation checks, each made a journey fail: accepted OK ignored, rejected row not rolled back, optimistic row not added, draft not restored, local message left pending after OK, channel window replaced by the fallback, live subscriptions not replayed after reconnect. - Both journeys run in about 1 s on fake time. - All 99 RunnerTests pass on an iPhone 16 iOS 26.5 simulator, the CI destination, after rebasing on #8398. - The shard script partitions all 235 test files exactly once. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <32a2e2c9d428ee08902cab75d956da2c1d235a22d4766b0dd4138bf6e2e5db1d@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(relay): leave system channels out of reads that do not name them (#8181)
🤖 ## Summary After part 1, a system channel is still returned by every query that returns ordinary channels, so existing clients would show it as a chat. This PR makes the relay leave system channels out of every read that does not name them. Clients do not need to filter, so clients that know nothing about system channels stay correct. | Query | Before | After | |---|---|---| | A query that does not name a channel (no `#h`), COUNT, full-text search, the HTTP `/query` and `/count` routes, artifact queries (`{"artifact": ...}`), the sidebar | Includes system channels | Leaves them out | | "Channels I belong to" (kind:39002 `#p:[me]`) | Includes them | Leaves them out | | A filter that names the channel with `#h`, or with `#d` on kinds 39000–39003 | Ordinary read rules | Unchanged: members can read it, and anyone can read it if it is open | Push notifications and "you were added to a channel" notifications (kinds 44100/44101) skip system channels, because a client that received one would show the channel. A client that is given a system channel's ID, for example in a pasted link, can still open it. Naming the ID is the opt-in. This keeps system channels ordinary NIP-29 groups. Part 2 of 3, stacked on part 1. ### Related issue None found. ### Details - The rule lives in one place: `get_accessible_channel_ids`, the set of channels a query may read when it does not name one. It is the union of the reader's memberships and every open channel; both halves now exclude `channel_type = 'system'`. Because the filter is in SQL before `LIMIT`, pages stay full. - A filter that names a system channel adds it to that filter's scope only (`handlers/system_channels.rs`). A sibling filter in the same request keeps the implicit set, so naming one system channel cannot widen another filter. - Thread windows and the workflows API name their channel, so they follow the same named-channel rule. - Artifact queries have their own read check in SQL. It reads a system channel only when the query's `#h` names it. - When a request re-checks membership for a named channel that its first lookup missed, a confirmed system channel joins only the filters that name it. Before, a reader who joined a system channel during the request could have it added to a sibling filter's scope. - The system-channel lookup runs only when a filter names a channel outside the implicit set, so ordinary queries do not pay for it. - **Spec.** NIP-CL lists the reads that leave system channels out, and says when a filter names one. `AGENTS.md` notes this for `get_channels`. ### Testing - End-to-end relay test (Postgres and Redis) with a private system channel, an open system channel and an ordinary channel, as a member and as a non-member: REQ without `#h`, NIP-50 search, COUNT, HTTP `/query`, HTTP search, HTTP `/count`, the channel list, and 39002 `#p:[me]` return only the ordinary channel. Named reads by `#h` and `#d` follow member-or-open on REQ, COUNT, search and HTTP. - Relay test: adding a member to a system channel sends no kind:44100; an ordinary channel still does. - Both tests fail when the SQL exclusion or the named-channel scope is removed. - Database test: an artifact in an open system channel is missing from `{"artifact":"current"}` and present with `#h:[<system channel>]`, for a member and a non-member. It fails without the channel-type condition. - Relay test: the membership re-check confirms a system channel that the system-channel lookup missed. The channel goes to the filter that names it, and a sibling filter's scope does not include it. It fails without the fix. - Unit tests for the per-filter scope. They now run in `just test-unit` and `scripts/run-tests.sh`. ### Stack These are two stacks. Merge them in this order. Client support (creating, labeling and finding these channels) will be in block/buzz-app, not the buzz SDK and CLI. **Stack 1: channel labels and creator lookup (#8174–#8176)** 1. #8174 channel type and creator tags, and the channel creation time 2. #8175 channel labels 3. #8176 database-side label and creator match, and the rule for choosing one channel **Stack 2: system channels (#8180–#8182)**, stacked on stack 1 because it uses labels and the creator tag 4. #8180 the system channel type 5. #8181 leave system channels out of reads that do not name them ← this PR 6. #8182 channel-state filters opt in to system channels --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

🤖 docs: add pre-PR checklist and review guidance to AGENTS.md (#7897)
Adds a "Before opening a PR" checklist and "Reviewing" guidance to `AGENTS.md`, and makes the Review-Proven Rules the shared reviewer checklist. PRs stay in draft until an agent review has run, an agent has exercised the change on the affected surface, and a human has tested it. The review-completed passphrase goes in the description only once that checklist holds for the current change, and comes out if later edits change behavior. Docs-only changes use the light path: content, link, and diff checks plus human confirmation. Reviews read `VISION.md` and the surface's `VISION_*.md` first, check the change against the Review-Proven Rules, recommend blocking only for concrete correctness, security, or contract defects with a realistic failure, label everything else optional, and put all findings in the first pass. Agents comment and never use Request Changes; humans decide which findings must be fixed. feat(push): make gateway origin configurable (#7261)
Make the push gateway origin configurable across the relay, gateway, mobile client, and deployment chart. This is a fresh deployment. The gateway has only run on personal development infrastructure, and push has no existing enabled users. Legacy migration, configured-to-unconfigured mobile transitions, and rolling upgrades from pre-launch gateway binaries are not supported. Populated pre-launch databases are rejected with an informative error before migrations run; their data is untouched. Mobile builds may omit the gateway URL, leaving push unavailable. Once push is enabled, subsequent builds must retain that configuration. ### Validation - All applicable CI checks pass at `5f546cfaf403f0386f146d213adfb4392f4ec29c`, including Rust, mobile/Swift, desktop/integration, security, image builds, and Helm checks. An unrelated agent cancellation test passed on retry. - PostgreSQL CI passed 384 tests, including the production-entry-point regression for refusing populated pre-launch databases before migrations, fresh initialization, and subsequent initialized deployments. - Focused local validation passed all 10 gateway PostgreSQL tests under the CI discovery filter and all 3 unconfigured-mobile tests. Repository-wide PostgreSQL discovery validation and the complete pre-push hooks passed. - Physical-device APNs/App Attest behavior and deployment to a live cluster were not verified in this work. --------- Signed-off-by: Tom Brow <tomb@block.xyz> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(desktop): bind duplicate mention selections to exact recipients (#7133)
## Summary Selecting two people or agents named Scout could replace the first recipient with the second even though the message still looked right. This binds each selection to its exact identity: the first keeps `@Scout`, and a conflicting selection gets `@Scout (<full public key>)`. Removing one no longer removes or redirects the other. - Reuse the existing **@ suggestion list**; team selection and automatic agent addressing reserve and reuse distinct labels too. Typing an ambiguous name manually shows an instruction to use the picker and preserves the draft without publishing—in chat, edits and standalone forums. - Share literal mention matching across recipient extraction, removal, display and editing so a shorter name cannot claim another recipient's longer or qualified label. - Rebuild authored references when a message is edited, and use the latest authorized snapshot when reopening or forwarding. Rendering/editing can recover qualified identities only from the message's recorded references, not from a key typed into its body. Unresolvable historical names remain literal rather than guessed recipients. - Wrap full-key labels within narrow/zoomed layouts while keeping their complete accessible label and ordinary mention icons. Edit activation waits for the action menu's focus cleanup before focusing the editor. ### Related issue Targets `main`; mention spacing (#7128) is already merged. Split from #7114. This is independent of the #7124 → #7125 remote-invitation stack and does not expand agent eligibility or invitation permissions. The separate Enter-selection suffix issue remains tracked in #7253. ### Testing The desktop unit suite and focused mock-Chromium checks passed on the published integration candidate, including pending-paste selection, edit/forwarding, copy and narrow-layout cases; formatting, types and frontend builds passed. On `0b3b18c0`, 64 focused trust/paste/selection unit tests and six mock-Chromium tests passed with zero browser retries, including actual timeline chip copy → fresh channel paste → send and mismatched-key rejection; TypeScript, changed-file Biome and an isolated E2E build passed. The broader browser run had copy failures before the focused repairs and is not claimed as wholly green. See [live CI](https://github.com/block/buzz/pull/7133/checks) for current-head results. No full local `just ci` pass, native/live-relay or cross-browser validation is claimed. To try it: select two same-name recipients, remove one, send, then edit/reopen and forward; only the intended identities should remain. Type an ambiguous name without choosing a suggestion and check that sending retains the draft with an error. Inspect full-key labels in a narrow window at 150% text size, and open Edit and type immediately. *Earlier mock-browser captures, not current-head runtime proof. No new before-state capture; screenshots alone do not prove recipient delivery.* **Clipboard trust:** generated full-key-qualified mentions now retain their exact recipient after copy/paste when the full key matches the clipboard record and community directory/profile state independently vouches for the base alias, including numeric collision suffixes. A qualifier alone does not establish trust. Arbitrary historical labels still cannot always be reconstructed. --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Bad Janet <150b20bdf6130418df9239dd1bd082c71612c8d653b47c277200365b9be215dc@buzz> |

fix(desktop): preserve spacing after multi-word mentions (#7128)
🤖
## Summary
In Buzz Desktop, choosing a multi-word name and immediately continuing a
sentence could swallow the space after the mention: `Hey @Alice
Chenhello`. This keeps the separator, so the same action produces `Hey
@Alice Chen hello` without moving the caret or repairing the name by
hand.
The editor recognizes the complete selected label, including its
internal spaces, and settles the autocomplete caret after the trailing
separator. Deliberately moving left or clicking inside the label still
lets you edit there; this is not a rule that forces every caret to the
end of a mention.

ci: relax file-size ceilings by surface (#6485)
## Summary - raise Desktop Rust's differential file-size ceiling from 1,000 to 1,500 lines - raise Desktop frontend and Mobile ceilings from 1,000 to 1,200 lines - keep Web at 1,000 lines and preserve the existing no-growth ratchet above each ceiling ## Why The flat 1,000-line limit is forcing mechanical trimming in Desktop and Mobile even for small cohesive changes. Surface-specific ceilings relieve that pressure without granting Web or every authored component a blanket 2,000-line budget. ## Testing - `just file-size-check` - `cd desktop && pnpm exec biome check scripts/check-file-sizes.mjs` - `node --check mobile/scripts/check-file-sizes.mjs` - `git diff HEAD^ --check` Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <32a2e2c9d428ee08902cab75d956da2c1d235a22d4766b0dd4138bf6e2e5db1d@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

docs: add review-proven failure-path & async-state rules to AGENTS.md (#7061)
Mining the last 25 PRs' review threads (45 substantive findings, 11 reviewed PRs, avg **4.8 review rounds** each) shows **53% of findings are repeats** of five clusters: swallowed failures, stale-async-state races, tests that don't bind the production seam, unbounded resources/retry loops, and non-atomic multi-step persistence. PR #6956 alone burned 4 rounds converging on one of these classes. A second, independent mining pass over **71 agent-review rooms (303 findings, Aug 18–29)** confirmed the same clusters and added outcome data — how often authors actually fix each finding class once flagged: test-seam binding and unbounded-resource findings **100%**, swallowed errors **90%**, stale-state races **70%**. It also surfaced two clusters the GitHub-thread pass under-sampled: **assistive-semantics defects** (44 findings, second-largest cluster) and **input-modality divergence** (27 findings), now rules 7–8. This PR distills those clusters into eight imperative rules in AGENTS.md so agents apply them **before writing code**, adds one client-consumption invariant to ARCHITECTURE.md §5, and places the test-quality rule in TESTING.md (per the team decision that testing docs are the canonical guide for review standards), cross-referenced from AGENTS.md. Each rule cites the PRs where it was litigated. Raw mining data: `reviews.jsonl` / `comments.jsonl` + `backfill/buzz-review-findings.jsonl` (review-mining artifacts, not committed). No code changes. CLAUDE.md is a symlink to AGENTS.md and picks this up automatically. 🤖 Drafted by Jude's agent from automated mining of this repo's last 25 PRs' review threads and 71 agent-review rooms; every rule cites the PRs where it was litigated. Jude reviews and owns the result. Mining method + raw cluster data available on request. --------- Signed-off-by: Jude Edwards <judeedwards@squareup.com> |

fix(db): disable heartbeat vacuum truncation (#6898)
## Why `replica_heartbeat` is updated continuously, but autovacuum heap truncation can take an `ACCESS EXCLUSIVE` lock whose replay cancels concurrent hot-standby reads. Truncating a fixed, single-row table provides no meaningful space benefit. ## What - Add migration 0034 to set `vacuum_truncate = false` on `replica_heartbeat` - Keep the desired-state schema aligned for fresh installations - Extend migration coverage so both paths retain the reloption ## Risk Assessment Low — this disables only autovacuum's heap-truncation phase for a single-row table; normal vacuum cleanup remains enabled. The tradeoff is retaining at most the table's otherwise-truncatable tail pages. ## References - [Investigation thread](https://sq-block.slack.com/archives/C0B2WT43BDH/p1787760831375989) - [PostgreSQL table storage parameters](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/sql-createtable.html#SQL-CREATETABLE-STORAGE-PARAMETERS) Generated with Codex --- **Update Aug 27, 2026:** Hardened fresh `pgschema` bootstraps after review. - Renamed the shared post-apply script to `reconcile-schema-after-pgschema.sql` and made it restore the heartbeat reloption and singleton row idempotently. - Added live catalog and row assertions that stop bootstrap when the database does not match the required state. - Updated every repository `pgschema apply` caller, including the desktop release smoke path. - Added a regression test that requires future `pgschema apply` callers to run reconciliation. - Documented the `pgschema` DML and storage-parameter limitation in `AGENTS.md` and at the reconciliation entry point. - Merged current `main` and renumbered this migration to 0034 after `main` added migration 0033. --------- Signed-off-by: Luke Tornquist <tornquist@squareup.com> |

fix(cli): preserve signatures in event reads (#6884)
## Summary
- preserve string Nostr `sig` values in normal `messages get`, `messages
thread`, `messages search`, and `feed get` output
- omit absent or non-string signatures instead of fabricating empty
values
- keep compact output at exactly `{id, content, created_at}` and update
CLI/managed-agent contract docs
## Validation
- `cargo test -p buzz-cli --lib` (367 passed at final head
`a2498faa0e07f90efc0ab0165606ba3b048327c7`)
- release candidate live-relay matrix: 49/49 normal events independently
recomputed to their NIP-01 IDs and passed BIP-340 verification; all four
compact commands preserved exact three-key output and ordering
- `git diff origin/main...HEAD --check`
- independent adversarial review: clear, no findings
## Compatibility
The normal JSON change is additive for valid relay events. In-repo
consumers use tolerant field lookup. Compact output is unchanged and
locked by regressions for both message and feed formatting.

fix(hooks): scope pre-push lanes to branch merge-base diff (#6423)
Lefthook selected pre-push lanes from the file set `git diff --name-only
HEAD @{push}` returns, which is overinclusive two different ways:
- **Rebase/merge poisoning.** `@{push}` is a two-dot diff against the
branch's last-pushed tip. After a rebase onto newer main — or the `git
merge origin/main` that `check-branch-skew.sh` itself instructs agents
to run — that diff includes everything `main` changed since the last
push, so `mobile-checks`, the `desktop-*` lanes, and `rust-tests` fire
on branches that never touched those trees (a recent relay-only push
discovered 266 files, 26 of them `mobile/`).
- **Brand-new branch in a worktree.** When `@{push}` doesn't resolve,
lefthook reads `$GIT_DIR/refs/remotes/origin/HEAD` — which doesn't exist
in a linked worktree's git-dir — then falls back to the
alphabetically-first `HEAD ->` remote. In a clone with a stale
third-party remote sorted before `origin`, that diffs against a frozen
tip and runs the full suite. All agent work happens in worktrees.
## Fix
Add `files: git diff --name-only origin/main...HEAD` to the six globbed
pre-push lanes (`rust-tests`, `desktop-check`, `desktop-typecheck`,
`desktop-test`, `desktop-tauri-checks`, `mobile-checks`). The three-dot
form is the branch's merge-base diff against `origin/main` — the same
base resolution `scripts/check-file-sizes-core.mjs` (`resolveBaseRef`)
and CI's dorny/paths-filter already use. A lane now fires only when this
branch actually changed a file it covers; `main`-side changes never
re-trigger it, and a new branch diffs against `origin/main` (empty diff
→ all globbed lanes skip) rather than a stale remote. `branch-skew` and
`file-size-check` stay unfiltered by design.
Also pin hook dispatch to the Hermit-managed lefthook. The generated
`.git/hooks/*` dispatchers prefer `$LEFTHOOK_BIN`, then a `lefthook` on
`PATH` — so a Homebrew lefthook shadowed the pinned 2.1.3. A `rc:
bin/.lefthookrc` (a lefthook config key `lefthook install` bakes into
every dispatcher) exports `LEFTHOOK_BIN` to `bin/lefthook`, so a push
runs the pinned version regardless of `PATH`. `just hooks` already runs
`lefthook install`, so re-running it picks up the `rc` line — no recipe
change needed.
`AGENTS.md` documents that lanes are scoped by merge-base diff and that
agent shells should lead `PATH` with `./bin` so pinned tools win.
## Verification
Reproduced both bugs in a scratch repo mirroring the worktree +
stale-remote topology, with lanes stubbed to echo on selection:
- **Bug 1:** relay-only branch, `git merge origin/main` (main carried
`mobile/` + `desktop/` changes). Without the fix, `desktop-check` and
`mobile-checks` fired; with it, three-dot diff = only the relay file,
all globbed lanes skip.
- **Bug 2:** brand-new branch, no upstream, in a linked worktree with an
alphabetically-first stale remote. Confirmed `@{push}` is `fatal`,
`refs/remotes/origin/HEAD` is absent from the worktree git-dir, and the
stale remote's `HEAD ->` sorts first. Without the fix it fired lanes off
the stale tip; with it, lanes scope to `origin/main` merge-base and
skip.
- **Positive controls:** a `mobile/**` commit still fires
`mobile-checks`; a `crates/**` commit still fires `rust-tests` +
`desktop-tauri-checks`.
- **Dispatch:** with Homebrew lefthook 2.1.10 on `PATH`, running the
real generated `.git/hooks/pre-push` under `LEFTHOOK_VERBOSE=1` shows it
sourcing `bin/.lefthookrc`, exporting `LEFTHOOK_BIN`, and running
`lefthook v2.1.3`.
- This PR's own push (a brand-new branch in a linked worktree — the bug
2 case) ran only `branch-skew` and `file-size-check`; no
mobile/desktop/rust lanes fired, since the branch touches only
`lefthook.yml`, `AGENTS.md`, and `bin/.lefthookrc`.

feat(cli): accept Buzz message links for thread reads (#6359)
## Summary - let `buzz messages thread` accept a canonical `buzz://message` link directly - treat the selected message ID as authoritative, verify its channel, and derive its containing thread root from the event - reject stale or forged `thread` hints that disagree with the selected message - preserve the existing `--channel` / `--event` form while allowing it to target any message in a thread ## Why Agent skills should be able to hand first-class Buzz links to the public Buzz CLI instead of carrying their own URL parsing wrappers. Link handling belongs with the CLI that owns the protocol; identity and relay selection remain explicit through the existing Buzz CLI environment and do not read Buzz Desktop private state. ## Verification - `cargo test -p buzz-cli` — 360 passed - `cargo clippy -p buzz-cli -- -D warnings` - `cargo fmt --all -- --check` - repository pre-push gates, including 5,070 Desktop tests - final architecture/code review — no must-fix findings A relay-backed manual smoke test was not run because this session did not have `BUZZ_RELAY_URL` and `BUZZ_PRIVATE_KEY` configured; the change has focused parser, CLI argument, channel/root binding, and mismatch tests. --------- Signed-off-by: morgmart <98432065+morgmart@users.noreply.github.com> |

ci: make file-size policy a first-class gate (#6187)
## Summary - make the differential file-size ratchet a first-class repository gate - run the same unfiltered gate from pre-push, `just check`, and CI - remove hidden file-size coupling from Desktop, Web, and Mobile lint commands - isolate ratchet Git subprocesses from hook-exported repository state ## Why The Desktop ratchet grew to govern `desktop/src-tauri/crates/**`, but the pre-push `desktop-check` command remained path-filtered to non-Tauri files. That contract drift allowed a Tauri Rust file-size regression through local validation. The ratchet already computes its own merge-base diff, so duplicating governed paths in Lefthook and CI adds drift risk without meaningful runtime savings. One root gate owns the policy now. ## Testing - `just file-size-check` - oversized untracked probe under `desktop/src-tauri/crates/**` fails with the 1,000-line ceiling - file-size core tests with hook-style `GIT_DIR` / `GIT_WORK_TREE` environment - `lefthook dump` confirms the unfiltered pre-push command - mandatory pre-push suite passed on `3217003db10c84d8a0c5f636ec4c92936777a002` - `git diff --check` Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

Teach agents to inherit Buzz product intent (#5875)
## Summary - make `VISION.md`, relevant `VISION_*.md`, and applicable testing guides explicit planning and review inputs for non-trivial Buzz changes - teach managed agents to load repository-root and path-local `AGENTS.md` files after selecting a checkout - distinguish CI evidence from exercising the live workflow for user-visible and integration behavior - turn repeatable mistakes into same-session durable lessons, keeping only load-bearing rules in core memory and promoting shared lessons to team guidance - pin the new managed-agent prompt invariants in tests - preserve the exact display name shown in Buzz when mentioning or addressing someone; never infer or look up a surname merely to sound more complete ### Related issue None found after searching `block/buzz` issues and PRs for agent instruction, vision, and product-intent routing. ### Testing At commit `07ef705b42f58d3be6981165c6959d541ada0ba7`: - `cargo fmt --all -- --check` - `cargo test -p buzz-acp agent_draft_prompt_tests` (4 passed) - mandatory pre-push hooks passed on the exact pushed head: `branch-skew`, `desktop-check`, `desktop-typecheck`, `mobile-test`, `desktop-test`, `rust-tests`, and `desktop-tauri-checks` - `git diff --check origin/main...HEAD` --------- Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

chore(hooks): run desktop typecheck in pre-push (#5110)
The local pre-push gate ran biome (`desktop-check`) and node:test (`desktop-test`) for desktop changes but never `tsc`, so TypeScript errors surface no earlier than CI's `desktop-core` job (`just desktop-build` = `tsc && vite build`). A branch with type errors passes every local hook today. This adds a `desktop-typecheck` pre-push command running `just desktop-typecheck` (`tsc --noEmit`) with the same glob/exclude as `desktop-check`, and updates the hook documentation in `AGENTS.md`. CI is unchanged — it already typechecks via `desktop-build`. Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> |

feat: Buzz entity links — rich preview cards + in-app navigation for repos, PRs, and issues (#4695)
## Summary
Gives Buzz-hosted git entities the same "GitHub-style" chat experience
GitHub links already get: rich preview cards, real titles, and
click-through — except clicks navigate **in-app** to the Projects view
instead of a browser.
- **Spec**: `docs/buzz-entity-links.md` — link scheme, slices, and
deferred work (`buzz://project`, OS deep links, web routes).
- **Canonical `buzz://` deep links**: new
`desktop/src/shared/lib/entityLink.ts` with builders + strict parser for
`buzz://pr?id=…&owner=…&d=…`, `buzz://issue?…`, and
`buzz://repo?owner=…&d=…`, mirrored by a Rust module
(`crates/buzz-cli/src/links.rs`) with a shared golden-format test so the
two implementations can't drift.
- **Preview cards**: `linkPreview.ts` recognizes `buzz://` entity links
*and* HTTPS relay clone URLs (`{origin}/git/<pubkey>/<repo>`, the shape
agents paste today). Both normalize onto the canonical `buzz://` href,
so the two spellings of a repo dedupe to one `Buzz`-provider card
(`BuzzMark` logo) rendered by `link-preview-attachment.tsx`.
- **Title enrichment**: PR/issue cards fetch the real subject from the
relay event (`subject` tag or first content line) via
`useResolvedLinkPreviews.ts`; the cache is community-scoped and reset in
`resetCommunityState()`.
- **In-app navigation**: clicking a card or inline anchor (including
HTTPS relay clone URLs whose origin matches the active relay) routes to
the canonical `30617:<owner>:<d>` coordinate via `goProject()`
(`markdown/entityLinks.tsx`). **Merge dependency: #4671 must merge
first** — route resolution for `30617:` coordinates is implemented on
that branch (`feat/multi-repository-projects`). Entity-link and
external-anchor logic were extracted out of `markdown.tsx` to stay under
the file-size ratchet.
- **Agent side**: `buzz pr open`, `buzz issues create`, and `buzz repos
create` now return a ready-made `link` field (omitted when the relay
returns `accepted: false`), and `base_prompt.md` instructs agents to
paste it verbatim when announcing work.
## Test plan
- [x] Desktop unit tests: pass, including new `entityLink.test.mjs` and
`linkPreview.test.mjs` coverage (golden formats, malformed-link
rejection, clone-URL/`buzz://` dedupe, origin-gated anchor behavior,
label-must-win invariant, cache epoch)
- [x] Rust: `cargo test -p buzz-cli` golden-format test +
accepted/rejected link guard assertions, clippy + fmt clean
- [x] Biome + `tsc --noEmit` clean; pre-push hooks
(desktop-tauri-checks, rust-tests, desktop-test) pass
- [ ] Manual: paste a relay clone URL and a `buzz://pr` link in a
channel — verify one card each, real PR title, and in-app navigation to
the Projects view

docs: note that addressable channel events scope by d, not h (#4103)
The channel scoping note in `AGENTS.md` reads as universal: > **Channel scoping**: Channels use `h` tags (NIP-29 group tag), not `e` tags. > Filters and queries must scope to `h` tags when operating within a channel. It holds for events inside a channel, but not for the addressable events that describe one. kind:39000, kind:39001 and kind:39002 carry the channel id in their `d` tag, which is what `get_channels` already reads. Taking the existing wording at face value while working on kind:39002 produces an empty result rather than an error, since those events do carry `h` tags in other flows, so the mistake is quiet and costs a debugging cycle. Came up while working on #4023. Four lines, no behaviour change. Signed-off-by: Szymon Tanski <szymontanski8@gmail.com> |

Inbox refactor (#2045)
## Why The Inbox mixed overlapping feed categories with personal work queues, so **All** was not actually comprehensive and several filters did not make it clear why an item appeared. Threads and DMs could produce one row per event instead of one row per conversation, drafts were hidden until selected, and reminders appeared through multiple competing presentations. This refactor makes the **Inbox** a focused, conversation-oriented place to catch up on work relevant to you. It is intentionally not a mirror of every unread event in every channel. ## What changed - Keep the destination named **Inbox** and use the standard Lucide bell icon. - Refocus **All** on DMs, mentions, thread replies, needs-action items, replies from agents the user owns or controls, due reminders, and active drafts. - Exclude generic top-level channel traffic and updates from agents the user does not own or control. - Group each thread or DM into one row, sorted by latest activity. - Resume an unread conversation at its oldest unread message while opening the full thread or DM in the detail pane. - Reuse the existing **New** divider at the unread boundary. - Make the detail title a direct link to the canonical conversation. - Give Reminders and Drafts the same list/detail interaction and location metadata as conversation rows. - Separate Reminders and Drafts from message filters with a subtle divider, without adding another labeled section. - Put reminder and draft counts beside their corresponding filter labels instead of on the generic filter button. - Preserve the selected conversation when switching filters if it remains valid; otherwise select a valid replacement without flashing stale detail. - Use filter-specific empty states and rename the options toggle to **Show unread only**. - Ship the focused behavior directly. The earlier experiment gate, Custom view, and default-view controls have been removed from this PR to keep the first pass focused. ## Filter model | Filter | What appears | | --- | --- | | **All** | One row per personally relevant conversation, plus due reminders and active drafts. Includes DMs, mentions, thread replies, explicit needs-action items, and replies from agents the current user owns or controls. Excludes generic top-level channel traffic, other agents' updates, and reminders that are not due yet. | | **Mentions** | Conversations containing a direct mention. Each conversation appears once and opens with full context. | | **Threads** | Conventional threaded replies, grouped to one row per thread. Broadcast replies are not treated as conventional thread replies. | | **Needs action** | Feed items explicitly classified as requiring action. | | **Agents** | Conversations whose representative response was authored by an agent the current user owns or controls, including top-level DM responses. If a human replies afterward, the conversation leaves this filter until an owned agent responds again. | | **Reminders** | All pending reminders, including upcoming reminders that stay out of **All** until they are due. | | **Drafts** | Active drafts, ordered by their last real edit time. | ## Grouping, ordering, and state - A thread or DM creates one Inbox row rather than one row per event. - An unread conversation resumes at its oldest unread message so intervening context is not skipped. - Conversation rows still sort by their latest activity. - The detail pane opens the full available conversation and shows the shared **New** divider before the first unread message. - Upcoming reminders appear only in **Reminders**. - When a reminder becomes due, it enters **All** at its trigger time. If its source conversation is already represented, the reminder state merges into that row instead of creating a duplicate; otherwise it appears as a standalone reminder row. - A due reminder can enrich a row in another relative filter when that conversation already qualifies for the filter. Reminder lifecycle remains separate from message read state. - Drafts appear in **All** by their last real edit time. Opening an unchanged draft does not move it to the top. - Reminder and draft rows show their location as `In #channel` or `In DM with <name>`. - **Show unread only** hides reminder and draft work queues because they do not share message unread semantics. ## Removed or narrowed - **Remove the old Activity filter.** It overlapped with All while still omitting items All now includes. - **Narrow Agents.** It no longer gathers every agent participating in a shared thread or subsequent human follow-ups. - **Remove duplicate reminder presentations.** The aggregate pending-reminders jump and duplicate generic feed rows are replaced by one list/detail model. - **Remove Custom and default-view settings from this pass.** They added considerable state and UI before the core model had been validated. - **Do not add section labels for Reminders and Drafts.** A divider communicates the distinction without creating another hierarchy in the menu. ## Risk assessment Medium implementation risk because this changes composition, grouping, ordering, read behavior, and personal queues in a primary desktop view. The implementation is scoped to the desktop UI and its local feed projection; it does not change relay schemas or public APIs. ## Testing - Desktop formatting, lint, file-size, text-size, and TypeScript checks passed. - Desktop unit suite: **3,663 passed, 0 failed**. - Desktop E2E production build passed. - Playwright smoke coverage across every spec touching this surface (`channels`, `smoke`, `profile`, `project-inbox`, `community-rail`, `integration`, `drafts-screenshots`): **118 passed, 0 failed**. - Full Playwright smoke project: **732 passed, 1 skipped**. Three local failures were investigated and cleared — `community-rail` keyboard reorder passed on re-run (flaky), while `relay-reconnect:97` and `video-attachment:223` are untouched by this commit (the only change to shared `tests/helpers/bridge.ts` is a comment) and pass in CI. - Unit coverage includes focused All matching, owned-agent filtering, conversation grouping, oldest-unread selection, selection stability, chronological reminder/draft composition, trigger-time reminder ordering, and duplicate reminder suppression. ## Update: July 27, 2026 The naming decision is settled: the surface stays **Inbox**. An earlier pass in this branch had renamed it to **Activity**; that rename has been reverted in `9c00d2d6e`, which is naming-only and changes no behavior. The revert covers file names, component/hook/type/constant identifiers, the sidebar label and tooltip, the `Inbox options` and `Filter inbox:` aria-labels, and the corresponding test names, test ids, and fixture ids. Three things were deliberately left as `activity`: - **The feed API contract** — the `activity` / `agent_activity` categories, the `feed.activity` and `feed.agentActivity` keys, and the `types=` query parameter. These are the server's names, not the surface's. - **Plain-noun usage** — empty states such as "No activity yet", plus `latestActivityAt` and `PROJECT_ACTIVITY_KINDS`. - **Pre-existing agent, project, and profile activity code**, which refers to a different concept entirely. The earlier experiment-gate approach has also been dropped, so `tests/helpers/bridge.ts` no longer claims that an Activity preview feature exists — `preview-features.json` has no such entry and the seed helper enables every desktop feature. feat(mobile): add worktree-aware debug identities (#2858)
**Category:** improvement **User Impact:** Developers can identify which worktree produced a mobile debug app, keep a bounded set of worktree builds installed side by side, and preserve each worktree app's login and local state while switching branches. **Problem:** Mobile debug builds from every checkout currently appear as the same “Buzz” app and share one application identity, so the running source is ambiguous and one worktree build replaces another. A branch-keyed identity would avoid replacement but create stale installs and fresh app state on every branch switch. **Solution:** Give each linked worktree a stable Debug-only application identity derived from its sanitized directory name. Show the sanitized branch name (or short commit SHA when detached) in the display label, persist generated native overrides for direct IDE builds, and leave Release/Profile identities unchanged. Worktree defaults remain lower precedence than a developer's iOS `AppOverrides.xcconfig`. `just mobile-clean` provides a safe cleanup path for suffixed worktree installs while preserving production Buzz. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **.github/workflows/ci.yml** Runs the expanded worktree override contract when relevant mobile or native configuration changes. **AGENTS.md** Documents worktree-aware mobile development and cleanup for contributors and agents. **Justfile** Generates overrides before mobile development and Android debug builds, and exposes `just mobile-clean`. **mobile/README.md** Explains stable per-worktree identities, branch/SHA labels, direct IDE usage, cleanup, and Release/Profile guarantees. **mobile/android/.gitignore** Ignores generated worktree properties. **mobile/android/app/build.gradle.kts** Loads and validates generated properties, then applies the application ID suffix and display label to Android Debug only. **mobile/android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml** Resolves the Android app label through an overridable string resource. **mobile/ios/.gitignore** Ignores generated iOS worktree settings. **mobile/ios/Flutter/Debug.xcconfig** Loads generated worktree defaults before developer `AppOverrides`, so personal signing overrides retain precedence. **mobile/ios/Flutter/Release.xcconfig** Pins the production display name and bundle identifier for Release/Profile builds. **mobile/ios/Runner/Info.plist** Resolves the visible iOS app name from build settings. **scripts/mobile-worktree-overrides.sh** Detects linked worktrees, derives a stable directory-keyed identity, sanitizes branch/SHA display context, writes native Debug overrides, and removes stale overrides in the main checkout. **scripts/mobile-worktree-clean.sh** Lists or removes suffixed Buzz worktree installs from booted iOS simulators and connected Android emulators without matching production IDs; supports `--dry-run`. **scripts/test-mobile-worktree-overrides.sh** Covers worktree detection, branch-switch identity stability, detached HEAD fallback, special-character sanitization, iOS override precedence, brace-aware Release/Profile purity, cleanup safety, ignores, and command integration. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. From a linked worktree, activate the repository toolchain and run `just mobile-dev`. 2. Inspect the running app: its label should be `Buzz (<sanitized-branch>)`, while its application ID suffix is derived from the worktree directory. 3. Switch branches in the same worktree, rerun the override script, and confirm the application ID remains stable while the display label updates. In detached HEAD, confirm the label uses a short SHA. 4. Build Debug from a second worktree and confirm both apps remain installed side by side with independent state. 5. Build from Xcode after setting `AppOverrides.xcconfig` and confirm developer overrides still win over generated worktree defaults. 6. Run `just mobile-clean --dry-run`, then `just mobile-clean`, and confirm suffixed worktree installs are targeted while the production app is preserved. 7. Build Release/Profile and confirm the production name and application identity remain unchanged. 8. Run `scripts/test-mobile-worktree-overrides.sh`, `just mobile-check`, `just mobile-test`, and `just mobile-build-android`. ## Screenshots / demos | iOS — labeled app switcher | iOS — side-by-side installs | | --- | --- | | <img width="360" alt="Buzz worktree label in the iOS app switcher" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/4bcae067-7ce5-4333-bb11-2803c4107663" /> | <img width="360" alt="Buzz production and worktree debug apps installed side by side on iOS" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/08a107b5-fdf2-463a-8a4c-81d41d7bf5e7" /> | | Android — side-by-side installs | Android — labeled app switcher | | --- | --- | | <img width="360" alt="Buzz production and worktree debug apps installed side by side on Android" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/4f5841a1-adae-42da-ae84-47c09ec85fb9" /> | <img width="360" alt="Buzz worktree label in the Android app switcher" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/0546ff51-efcc-4cb6-a4bd-2a3af26cd60f" /> | --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: npub1223z34hd7vtwc6qj4s7flsxkj644nlre2nthu7lrrmkumhu3xddsrx9r6w <52a228d6edf316ec6812ac3c9fc0d696ab59fc7954d77e7be31eedcddf91335b@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

docs: document required DCO sign-off and add commit-msg sign-off hook (#2993)
`DCO Check` is a required status check on this repo and the top failing
check on open contributor PRs, but nothing documented it and nothing
surfaced it locally — a missing `Signed-off-by` trailer only showed up
as a red check after the PR was already open.
## `lefthook.yml`
New `commit-msg` hook that appends the `Signed-off-by` trailer:
```yaml
commit-msg:
commands:
signoff:
run: 'git interpret-trailers --if-exists doNothing --trailer "Signed-off-by: $(git var GIT_COMMITTER_IDENT | sed ''s/ [0-9]* [+-][0-9]*$//'')" --in-place {1}'
```
`GIT_COMMITTER_IDENT` is the identity that performed the commit, which
is what a DCO sign-off certifies and what native `git commit -s` uses.
Committing someone else's work with `--author` or `git commit -C`
therefore signs off as you, not as the original author.
`--if-exists doNothing` makes it idempotent: `git commit -s` still
yields exactly one trailer, and an existing sign-off from a different
signer is preserved rather than supplemented. An empty commit message
still aborts — the hook does not turn one into a commit body containing
only a trailer.
Git runs `commit-msg` for `git commit` and `git merge` only. Other flows
bypass it and need their own sign-off flag — `git rebase --signoff`,
`git cherry-pick -s`. Note `-s` is `--strategy` on `git rebase`, so only
the long flag works there. The header comment and both docs state the
scope rather than promising blanket coverage. Installed by `just hooks`;
`commit-msg` carries no `glob` because it rewrites the message, not
files.
## `CONTRIBUTING.md`
`Before You Open a PR` gains a paragraph on sign-off: commit with `git
commit -s`, what the trailer certifies, that the required `DCO Check`
blocks merge without it, `git rebase --signoff main` to repair
already-pushed commits, and what the hook does and does not cover.
`CI Gate` gains one sentence pointing at `just fix-all` for
formatting-only failures.
## `AGENTS.md`
`Quality Gates` gains the same requirement framed for agents, including
the sequencer caveat and the reminder to include `-s` in
programmatically built commit commands.
