fix(desktop): order unnamed roster members by full canonical npub (#7503)
🤖 ## Summary - Channel members appear in the Members sidebar. A member who has never set a display name is listed under an abbreviated form of their public key (npub), and the sidebar previously sorted those unnamed members by that short label. Short labels are not unique — different keys can share one — so the order of unnamed members could look arbitrary or unstable. Unnamed members now sort by their full public key, so the order is deterministic. - When two members display the same name, the previous tiebreak was membership order (who joined first), which is not visible to a reader and can shift as roster data loads in. The tiebreak is now the full public key, so identical display names always land in the same order. - Nothing gets noisier on screen: the full key is used only for sorting, and the sidebar still shows the compact abbreviated form. Priorities are unchanged — authored (custom) names still outrank fallback labels, and role/current-user grouping still applies. - Scope is the desktop app's Members sidebar and member management: the two existing sort comparators. Mobile and other lists in the app are untouched. ### Related issue Based on #7495 (introduced the abbreviated npub labels this follows up on). The original five presentation PRs remain independently reviewable. No closer duplicate found. ### Testing - 6469 desktop unit tests, typecheck, and check pass. - The 3 existing consumer-seam E2E tests still pass; a new E2E test asserts the sidebar lists unnamed members in full-key order, with fixture members deliberately inserted in the opposite order so incoming membership order cannot mask the sort. - Negative check: reverting only this change makes the new ordering assertion fail, so it genuinely binds the new sort. - CI has not run on this PR yet. fix(desktop): npub identity displays for mention, member, and workflow surfaces (#7495)
🤖 ## Summary Every Buzz account is identified by a long public key. Before this change, when someone had no display name, surfaces fell back to inconsistent labels — mostly raw hex fragments like `abcd1234…wxyz`, sometimes a generic role label with no key — so the same person looked different from surface to surface, and nothing looked like an npub address. This PR applies the npub identity foundation from #7488 to the everyday surfaces: a person without a display name now falls back to the same compact npub everywhere — `npub1xxxx…yyyy`, the human-readable spelling of their public key (first 8 + last 4 characters of the full npub) — across messages and mentions, reactions, huddles, member and participant lists, the sidebar and channel activity, search, projects, tray, notifications, and workflow surfaces. - **Mentions and messages**: key-only mention chips render the compact npub. Pasting a copied mention back still re-binds it byte-exactly to the identity it declares, for both the new npub chips and legacy hex-truncated chips copied by older clients — wrong, missing, or tampered key qualification is rejected instead of silently degrading to plain text. - **Reactions and huddles**: huddle reaction events and the huddle roster/participants render the compact npub for unnamed participants; workflow reaction triggers describe authors with the same form. - **Members and sidebar**: channel and community member lists, add-member results and invites, the members sidebar, the channel-activity popover, search, projects (assignees/reviewers/PR panels), the tray menu, and desktop notifications all fall back to the compact npub; titles and aria labels keep the machine-readable full labels. - **Profile labels**: panel/popover display names and owner handles fall back to the compact npub (never raw hex) when there is no name; linked-event (nevent) message metadata shows the npub-shaped author fallback while the event lookup and event IDs are unchanged. - **Workflows**: author-picker secondary labels, step destination keys, and trigger-author references render compact npubs; event and blob IDs keep their existing hex compacts (they are not identities). - **Avatars stay distinct**: fallback avatars for key-only identities derive initials from the key's tail, so prefixed role labels like "Participant npub1…" no longer collapse every unnamed participant onto the same initials; people with names keep their name initials. Preserved exactly: display names and distinct avatars, internal hex keys (storage/API forms unchanged), clipboard identity roundtrips, event/blob ID compaction, private keys (no nsec path is touched), and nevent link handling. Scope: this PR changes what identity labels **display**, not identity controls — profile/settings copy controls, the respond-to allowlist, workflow key fields, and agent dialogs are the sibling slice #7489, and the shared primitives (`canonicalNpub`, `truncateNpub`, the `<PubKey>` gate, strict input parsing) come from the foundation #7488. ### Related issue - Fixes: N/A. Searched existing issues/PRs for duplicates — none found; the related work is the npub identity stack this slice belongs to. - Base/dependency: stacks on #7488 (foundation) — this PR does not stand alone on main. - #7489 is a sibling slice on the same #7488 base (profile/agent/workflow controls), not a dependency: this PR does not require #7489, and #7489 does not require this PR — both only require #7488. ### Testing At exact head `4763cbeae1dd521309755e6d61f657324cb98667` (base: `fix/desktop-npub-identity-d1a` @ `5f3a4a8111998c8aa41ad77cf66992bd1c85343c`; 71 files, +656/−189 — production +277/−136, test support +379/−53): - At this head: targeted `mentions.spec.ts` (1/1), the e2e build, typecheck, and biome — green. - 9 changed/related unit files: 100/100 green; typecheck, e2e build, biome, and px text/truncation checks clean; huddle-roster focused run green; channel-activity e2e 11/11; mutation checks confirm the fallback wiring (removing it collapses shared initials and drops fallback rows). - Known pre-existing local e2e failures, unchanged by this PR and reproduced identically at the upstream merge-base: huddle-transcription voice-menu attribution (25 pass / 1 fail) and the `workflow-local-controls` 438px caret drift. Not claimed green locally. - Update at head `236af9e6137386737e84d3a474d6bc808a704c50` (test-only follow-ups `1143af345` + `236af9e6`): the `workflow-local-controls` races were fixed in the test drivers, and the 438px diff was shown to be a stale Darwin snapshot baseline (name-row enable switch already absent and `message_posted` already MessageSquare at recording commit `9390e11c9`) and refreshed — the focused screenshot test, including keyboard/caret assertions, now passes locally (twice). The full spec was not rerun after the snapshot refresh; the huddle-transcription item above is unchanged. Label/copy text changes are asserted by the e2e specs (`mentions`, `mention-recipients`, `pubkey-display-screenshots`, `huddle-transcription`, `channel-activity-popover`, `workflow-local-controls`) rather than new screenshots; the screenshot spec pins the compact npub text forms. ### Task provenance Buzz channel: `1f0e4a3d-7e01-4efe-bb16-843b357f85c9` Task: buzz://message?channel=1f0e4a3d-7e01-4efe-bb16-843b357f85c9&id=86b34eb4bd84a1472419e9af22636c011c0fe273e3c196f967d7a36996e149b6 --------- Signed-off-by: Logan Johnson <loganj@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Larry <627498bd4bd1f281a16431e3c6cce3b5c25b6692798c78672298aefbf2f8f8b5@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(sidebar): simplify unread indicators and emphasize priority activity (#7134)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** The sidebar now presents unread activity consistently: unread rooms are bold, offscreen activity is counted by destination, and DMs or directed activity receive stronger emphasis. **Problem:** Sidebar unread state was split across competing signals: agent work could trigger overflow, message totals inflated its count, non-DM rows showed redundant numerals, and routine room activity looked as urgent as DMs or directed messages. This made the sidebar noisy and made the overflow value harder to interpret. **Solution:** Use one stable offscreen unread control that counts rooms and DMs—not messages—and remove agent work from that signal. Keep ordinary room activity quiet; promote DMs, mentions, broadcasts, and relevant thread replies; preserve DM avatars and targeting; bold every unread room; and retain thread dots while removing non-DM numerals. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src-tauri/src/unread_catch_up.rs** Classifies relevant thread replies as priority activity during native unread catch-up so startup state matches live rendering. **desktop/src/app/AppShell.tsx** Passes the priority unread destination set into the sidebar. **desktop/src/features/channels/useUnreadChannels.ts** Projects unread destinations, priority state, and thread replies consistently while keeping Dock badge behavior separate from sidebar emphasis. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/lib/useOffscreenActivityChannelIds.test.mjs** Removes tests for the superseded agent/activity overflow projection. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/lib/useOffscreenActivityChannelIds.ts** Removes the old agent-plus-message overflow projection so agent work alone no longer creates the unread indicator. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/lib/useSidebarActivityOverflow.ts** Replaces activity-volume overflow state with unread-destination overflow state. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/lib/useSidebarUnreadOverflow.test.mjs** Covers priority detection and destination-count labels for the new overflow projection. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/lib/useSidebarUnreadOverflow.ts** Counts distinct offscreen unread destinations and determines quiet versus primary treatment per direction. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/AppSidebar.tsx** Renders one stable overflow control, preserves protected-DM visibility filtering, and prioritizes visible unread DMs for previews and navigation. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/AppSidebar.types.ts** Adds the priority unread destination set to the sidebar contract. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/CustomChannelSection.tsx** Stops forwarding non-DM unread counts into custom channel rows. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/MoreUnreadButton.test.mjs** Updates control coverage for explicit emphasis, destination labels, and DM targeting. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/MoreUnreadButton.tsx** Applies quiet or primary treatment without changing geometry, accessibility text, DM avatars, or click behavior. **desktop/src/features/sidebar/ui/SidebarSection.tsx** Removes non-DM row numerals while retaining unread weight and thread preview affordances. **desktop/src/shared/ui/UnreadPill.tsx** Shares one composition between quiet and primary states so only color treatment changes. **desktop/tests/e2e/badge.spec.ts** Covers destination counting, promotion without count inflation, DM/thread priority, row bolding, and removed numerals; also captures the reviewed UI states. **desktop/tests/e2e/channel-activity-popover.spec.ts** Updates channel activity assertions for the numeral-free row treatment. **desktop/tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts** Updates channel unread expectations to use bold text rather than a row count. **desktop/tests/e2e/thread-unread.spec.ts** Keeps thread unread-dot and popover coverage while asserting the room itself is bold. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open a workspace with enough sidebar destinations to scroll rooms above or below the viewport. 2. Receive ordinary unread activity in an offscreen room; verify one quiet `N unread` indicator appears and counts the room once regardless of message volume. 3. Receive a mention, broadcast, or relevant thread reply in an offscreen room; verify the same count becomes primary without changing its geometry or adding a badge. 4. Receive an unread DM, including thread-only activity; verify the indicator is primary, shows the DM avatar when available, and navigates to that DM. 5. Scroll the destination onscreen or mark it read; verify the count and treatment update from the remaining offscreen destinations. 6. Inspect unread non-DM rows; verify their names are bold, numeric badges are absent, and thread dots still open the unread-thread preview. ## Screenshots ### Ordinary unread room Routine offscreen room activity uses the quiet treatment. ### Directed unread activity The same destination count becomes primary when an offscreen room has directed activity; geometry and label remain unchanged. ### Thread-only unread DM A DM stays primary and retains its avatar even when only its thread has unread activity. --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Rizz <302abe414ca6e3134763d2539bfcf145aea2a63fe5f8455204ed602fd40cf381@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

perf(desktop): publish mention sends before waking agents (#7154)
## Summary Cuts perceived agent-mention send latency by publishing the message first and waking the agent afterwards, instead of blocking the send on a synchronous agent start/deploy round-trip. A send that mentions a stopped or undeployed managed agent now shows the message immediately; the wake runs fire-and-forget after the relay accepts the publish. The already-running-agent send also gets faster via revalidation dedupe and NIP-11 caching. ## Changes ### Publish-first agent wake - Wakes for mentioned managed agents are collected during send preparation and flushed fire-and-forget only after `await send(...)` resolves. No start can fire — and no "your message was sent" toast can appear — for a message the relay never accepted; every abort path (cancel, readiness error, publish rejection, dismissed non-member prompt) simply drops the queue. Persona-create wakes ride the pending draft behind the non-member prompt for the same reason. - Each wake is bound to the tenant scope captured at send time: the new `useDetachedAgentStart` hook passes `expectedRelayUrl` + `expectedSignerPubkey` with every start, so a wake that outlives a community switch fails closed at the backend instead of spawning against the new tenant. A wake whose scope has not resolved yet (identity query still loading, blank stored relay URL) is refused with a recoverable toast rather than fired unscoped. - In-flight wakes are deduped through a module-level map keyed by `(relay URL, pubkey)` — the same tenant pair the backend keys on — so two quick sends or two composers cannot double-spawn a cold agent during the seconds-long start window. Entries are deliberately retained across community switches (the key *is* the tenant scope, so a retained entry can never affect another community, and clearing it let an A→B→A round trip deploy a provider agent twice) and self-clean when the start settles. - Wake-failure toasts are fenced to the community they fired in via a module-level scope mirror: a start that settles after a community switch logs instead of rendering community A's failure over community B's UI, and an A→B→A return re-delivers the warning where it is actionable. - Membership attach and access-policy writes stay synchronous, so the harness's first kind-39002 read still sees the channel. ### Replay floor - The send timestamp travels with the wake as `BUZZ_ACP_REPLAY_FLOOR`, threaded through both local spawns (`spawn_agent_child`) and provider deploys (`deploy_to_provider` injects it into `launch.policy_env`), so the harness's startup watermark replays back past the just-published triggering message no matter how long the spawn takes. `buzz-acp` clamps the floor to `[now − 15min, now]`. - The floor is captured at enqueue time, not flush time — the flush runs post-publish, so a flush-time stamp could exceed the message's `created_at` and skip the very message the floor exists to cover. - On local spawns the caller's floor is asserted *after* the user env layering (and the ambient parent-process value is stripped unconditionally), so a saved persona/global/agent env entry cannot shadow this send's floor — mirroring the shadow-strip the provider path applies to `launch.env`. Both halves share one `REPLAY_FLOOR_ENV_VAR` const. ### Send-path latency reductions (already-running agents) - Mention revalidation is deduped: the publish-boundary pass reuses the pre-side-effect authorization pass unless an awaited round-trip actually separated the two (background upload, link-preview settlement, DM expansion, a real access-policy/membership write, or active-huddle enrollment). This preserves the #5681 authorization boundary while making the common send single-pass. - NIP-11 `self` lookups are cached per relay URL for 5 minutes. Only verified values are cached — non-2xx and malformed responses stay retryable — and URL keying keeps community switches from serving another relay's identity. - `applyReusableAgentAccessPolicy` now reports its relay write explicitly (`{ agent, wrote }`) instead of signalling through object identity, so the revalidation trigger above is load-bearing by construction. ### File splits Four files crossed the repository file-size ratchet during this work; one cohesive unit was extracted from each rather than raising a ceiling — `runtime/setup_payload.rs`, `commands/agents_create_fields.rs`, `app_state_accessors.rs`, and `useEnsureAgentMentionsReady.ts`. The ratchet is green at the tip. ### Review follow-ups The three concrete findings from the first review round are fixed at the tip: the pre-publish wake and its false "your message was sent" toast (fixed by queueing wakes behind the publish), the stale cross-community failure toast (fixed by the scope-mirror fence), and the A→B→A duplicate provider deploy (fixed by retaining the tenant-keyed in-flight entries across switches). The fast-path admission-staleness point is answered in the review thread: deferred paths already re-validate at the publish boundary, and the remaining fast-path window is milliseconds against an irreducible network-transit race. Mid-branch send-perf instrumentation was added to attribute the residual spinner latency and reverted once that analysis concluded — it is net-zero in this diff. ### Deferred follow-ups Durable mention catch-up via `event_mentions` (option 2 step 3) and backend deploy-epoch coalescing for the wake paths that do not funnel through `useDetachedAgentStart` (Agents-panel Start, restore, inbound-persona deploys) are intentionally left for separate changes. ## Testing - `cargo test --lib` on desktop/src-tauri: 3054 passed; clippy `-D warnings` + fmt clean - Desktop unit tests: 5856 passed (the 5 failures are the pre-existing `inboxReopenNavigation` / `useRetainedProjectGitViews` baseline, present on origin/main); `tsc --noEmit` and biome clean - Full mentions (87), channels (89), and community-rail (25) Playwright smoke suites against `pnpm build:e2e` bundles, with 3× stress reruns of each new spec - The load-bearing regression specs were confirmed red on the pre-fix code: publish-failure → zero starts and no false toast, the dedupe hold (1 call vs 2), the fail-closed scope refusal, the rail-switch toast fence, and the A→B→A retention spec (1 deploy vs 2) - New unit coverage pins the queue contract (enqueue-time floors, attach-seam queueing), the scope capture and verbatim relay-URL handoff, the dedupe map's keying and settle-then-repermit behavior, the unscoped refusal, the toast-scope mirror, the `{ agent, wrote }` contract, and the replay-floor env layering on both spawn paths 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Matt Toohey <contact@matttoohey.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

preserve channel description paragraph breaks (#6946)
**Category:** fix **User Impact:** Channel descriptions now keep their paragraph structure everywhere people and agents read them. **Problem:** Multi-paragraph channel descriptions were flattened in the desktop interface and in agent context, making operational instructions harder to scan and potentially changing their meaning. A running agent harness could also continue using a stale description after someone edited it. **Solution:** Preserve authored line and paragraph breaks across the desktop surfaces, and render descriptions as bounded, indented agent-context blocks with semantic delimiters escaped. Prompt-visible channel metadata now refreshes before each turn with cached fallback, while one shared desktop derivation keeps the header and channel intro consistent. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **crates/buzz-acp/src/pool.rs** Refresh prompt-visible kind-39000 metadata with one bounded request per turn so edits reach running harnesses, while retaining cached metadata as a degradation fallback. Add regression coverage for description edits and update request-count fixtures for the refresh lifecycle. **crates/buzz-acp/src/prompt_framing.rs** Add semantic text escaping for untrusted values embedded inside paired prompt sections. **crates/buzz-acp/src/queue.rs** Render multi-paragraph descriptions as indented context blocks, preserve blank lines, retain the 500-character limit, and escape semantic delimiters. Add helper- and full-prompt tests for paragraph preservation, UTF-8-safe truncation, and adversarial input. **desktop/src/features/channels/lib/channelDescription.ts** Introduce one shared channel-detail derivation and preserve newlines between status context and authored detail text. **desktop/src/features/channels/lib/channelDescription.test.mjs** Cover shared field precedence, multiline descriptions, status-prefix separation, and fallback behavior. **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelPane.helpers.ts** Use the shared channel-detail derivation for the channel intro instead of maintaining a second field order. **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelPane.helpers.test.mjs** Verify description text wins consistently over legacy purpose text when both are present. **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelManagementSheetRows.tsx** Preserve paragraph whitespace in editable and read-only channel summaries and allow enough lines for compact multi-paragraph descriptions. **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelManagementSheetRows.test.mjs** Render both channel-summary variants and assert the multiline whitespace and four-line clamp contract. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ChannelIntroBlock.tsx** Display description line and paragraph breaks in the empty-channel intro. **desktop/src/features/messages/ui/ChannelIntroBlock.test.mjs** Add render-level coverage for the intro's multiline whitespace contract. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Run the desktop app and create an empty channel. 2. Give it a description with two paragraphs, including a blank line and a multi-line second paragraph, then save and reopen channel management. 3. Confirm the empty-channel intro preserves the blank line and subsequent line breaks. 4. Confirm the channel-management summary shows the paragraph structure for both an editor and a read-only member rather than a detached ellipsis. 5. Hover the channel title and confirm its tooltip keeps the description's line breaks. 6. Add an agent, send one prompt, edit the description, then send another prompt. Confirm the next generated agent context contains the updated description as an indented multiline block. ## Screenshot A real-app screenshot of the multiline channel intro and channel-management summary is attached in the PR comments below. feat(desktop): add KLIPY GIF search to composers (#5554)
## Summary - Supersedes #1913 with a KLIPY-hosted URL implementation. - Adds KLIPY GIF search and trending results to desktop message and forum composers. - Keeps selected GIFs hosted by KLIPY; Buzz stores only the external URL and media metadata (no imeta tag, since relays only accept hash-backed local `/media/` entries). - Aligns the Emoji/GIF picker with Buzz's standard segmented control, theme surfaces, and motion behavior. ## Relay-to-provider boundary - The relay proxies KLIPY search/share so the `BUZZ_KLIPY_API_KEY` never reaches the desktop; the key stays server-side behind a redacted `Debug` impl. - The dedicated GIF `reqwest` client sets `redirect::Policy::none()`. Because the API key rides in the request path, following a provider `3xx` could replay a key-bearing URL to an attacker-chosen host (an SSRF/key-disclosure primitive). With redirects disabled, a `3xx` returns as a non-success status that the handlers map to a generic `502`; the `Location` target is never read or forwarded. - Admission reuses the established NIP-98, membership, replay, and per-pubkey rate-limit gates, with an upstream response-size cap and allowlisting so KLIPY error bodies never cross the relay boundary. ## Accessibility - Under `prefers-reduced-motion: reduce`, the picker grid renders a static provider poster (a normalized `jpg` asset) instead of the animated preview, or a named static placeholder when no poster is available. It reacts to preference changes while mounted. `no-preference` keeps the animated preview. - Selected GIFs carry their title through `ImetaMedia`'s `displayLabel`, so the composer thumbnail, preview dialog, editor, lightbox, and remove control all derive one non-empty accessible name instead of an empty `Attachment ` label. Ordinary hashed uploads keep their existing hash-derived names. --------- Signed-off-by: kenny lopez <klopez4212@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Kenny Lopez <klopez4212@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Signed-off-by: Hayt <9e1c23a3fd83f61da34420e4e88ff1b16e45cafcc0cd9019eb07d4ecfa8ca9b0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Princess Donut <b238ea756dee4d98afa5883fc7f1de61eeabe65bf700e3a5a5a80db5e42e2c2b@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Duncan <dcfd242e557282d7a1e2cf2e6877522682f1e5c6156dc92ca7d90eaedd3b0f95@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Will Pfleger <pfleger.will@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Hayt <9e1c23a3fd83f61da34420e4e88ff1b16e45cafcc0cd9019eb07d4ecfa8ca9b0@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): stabilize members dialog scrolling (#6670)
## Summary - Keep virtualized member rows measurable by removing `content-visibility: auto` from the measured row subtree. - Use the member card's 60px baseline as the virtualizer estimate while retaining deferred rendering for eager search and archived-member lists. - Cover large rosters with a regression test that checks stable scroll extent across the list and verifies the final member remains reachable. ### Related issue None found. ### Testing - `just ci` - `pnpm -C desktop build:e2e` - `pnpm -C desktop exec playwright test tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts --grep 'members sidebar virtualizes large channel rosters' --repeat-each=5` #### Before https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a5fcc040-6872-4200-bcc3-7b4197a4dd23 #### After https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/f2c97f2f-3719-4c2a-b17a-2450c6c70a55 Signed-off-by: Matt Toohey <contact@matttoohey.com> |

fix(desktop): keep member runtime status off the UI thread (#6445)
## Summary - skip managed-agent runtime discovery when the members sidebar has no local managed bots - run runtime listing disk, process, and mutex work on Tauri’s blocking pool - preserve local managed-bot status and Start/Stop behavior with positive and negative E2E coverage Opening Add people in a human-only channel could invoke synchronous native runtime discovery before the sidebar painted, leaving the macOS app beachballed. Human invites do not depend on that data. ## Why I have seen slowness opening this dialog in the UI https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/1955eb5e-ee47-4edf-8e5c-606d11ffbc25 ### Related issue Related overlap: #4851 is a broader managed-agent lifecycle change that includes a similar native offload. This draft is intentionally limited to the sidebar critical path and adds the human-only query gate. ### Testing I have verified the pause in the video goes away after this change. - `just ci` - `just desktop-check` - `just desktop-test` (5,241 passed) - `just desktop-tauri-fmt-check` - `just desktop-tauri-clippy` - `just desktop-tauri-test` (2,702 passed; 18 ignored) - focused Playwright: human-only sidebar skips runtime discovery - focused Playwright: local managed bot retains status and Stop/Start controls No visual styling changed, so screenshots are not applicable. feat(workflows): add workflow editor (#6248)
**Category:** new-feature **User Impact:** Users can create, edit, duplicate, and deep-link to workflows in a responsive visual editor without losing unsupported YAML or unsaved work. **Problem:** Workflow editing was split across disconnected surfaces and lacked reliable URL state, lifecycle protection, and parity between Form and YAML modes. **Solution:** This adds a route-addressable editor foundation with stable pane identity, guarded dirty exits, lossless Form/YAML transitions, responsive workflow and channel controls, and matching reaction-filter execution support. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **crates/buzz-workflow/src/lib.rs** Apply reaction trigger filters during workflow execution and cover target-message gating. **crates/buzz-workflow/src/schema.rs** Extend the reaction trigger schema with the editor-owned filter field. **desktop/src/app/navigation/useAppNavigation.ts** Add navigation helpers for explicit workflow create, edit, and duplicate editor modes. **desktop/src/app/routes/WorkflowsRouteScreen.tsx** Coordinate route state with the shared workflow library and editor dialog. **desktop/src/app/routes/lazyWorkflowsRouteScreen.ts** Share one lazy route component across workflow route entry points to avoid loading flashes. **desktop/src/app/routes/workflows.$workflowId.tsx** Parse workflow editor modes and pane deep links for workflow-specific URLs. **desktop/src/app/routes/workflows.tsx** Parse library-level create state and render the shared workflow route screen. **desktop/src/app/AppWorkflowEditorOverlayProvider.tsx** Host the shared workflow editor at the app-shell level so channel-originated workflow dialogs stay above the active channel instead of replacing it. **desktop/src/shared/context/WorkflowEditorOverlayContext.tsx** Expose route-independent open-existing and create-new workflow actions to channel settings. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowEditorHost.tsx** Share editor loading, unavailable, and dialog lifecycle wiring between canonical workflow routes and the channel overlay. **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelManagementSheet.tsx** Add an experiment-gated, Canvas-style Workflows ingress below Canvas, including channel-scoped loading, error, empty, and list states plus open/create actions; disabled users issue no workflow query. **desktop/src/features/channels/ui/ChannelWorkflowsSection.tsx** Render the channel workflow list and New workflow action without pushing the existing settings sheet past its file-size ceiling. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/ChannelCombobox.tsx** Adopt the final channel presentation, portalled scrolling, and one-shot create-flow opening behavior. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/CreateWorkflowDialog.tsx** Remove the superseded create-only dialog in favor of the unified workflow editor. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowCard.tsx** Open workflow cards in the detail and run-history modal while preserving explicit edit and duplicate actions. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowDetailDialog.tsx** Present workflow Trigger/Steps in the shared modal chrome, with top-chrome ingress to a responsive right-side run-history inspector and an explicit edit action. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowDialog.tsx** Unify create, edit, and duplicate lifecycle handling with URL panes, generated-name synchronization, dirty-exit guards, stale-write preservation, and protected webhook-secret handoff. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowFormBuilder.tsx** Build the responsive Form/YAML editor shell, stable step selection, insertion and removal behavior, and lossless canonical-YAML synchronization. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowStepCard.tsx** Align workflow step controls and presentation with the final editor interaction model. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowUnavailableDialog.tsx** Show a non-disclosing loading or unavailable state for missing and inaccessible workflow links, with retry and close actions. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowWebhookSecretDialog.tsx** Obscure one-time webhook secrets by default and require explicit confirmation before any close or navigation discards them. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowsScreen.tsx** Connect library state and workflow actions to the route-addressable editor. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/WorkflowsView.tsx** Restore the responsive workflow library, create tile, cards, loading states, and shared action menu. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowEditorPane.test.mjs** Cover pane parsing, serialization, and stable step-ID reconciliation. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowEditorPane.ts** Define explicit trigger and stable step pane URL state. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowYamlDocument.ts** Read and update header fields independently of full form validation so incomplete steps cannot clear or disable the workflow title. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowYamlDocument.test.mjs** Cover document-level workflow header reads and writes for incomplete definitions. **desktop/tests/e2e/workflow-title-stability.spec.ts** Verify generated, renamed, saved, and duplicated titles remain stable while moving between trigger and step panes. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowFormTypes.test.mjs** Cover lossless Form/YAML round trips and actionable fallback for unsupported fields. **desktop/src/features/workflows/ui/workflowFormTypes.ts** Own canonical workflow YAML conversion while preserving supported trigger and step fields. **desktop/src/shared/ui/PortalledScrollArea.tsx** Provide bounded scrolling for popovers rendered outside their dialog container. **desktop/src/shared/ui/popover.tsx** Allow workflow popovers to use the shared portalled scroll container. **desktop/tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts** Cover disabled and enabled Workflows experiment states, including suppressed queries while disabled, placement beneath Canvas, channel workflow listing and opening, channel-preselected workflow creation, and direct return to the channel Workflows panel after close, discard, or cancel. **desktop/tests/e2e/workflows.spec.ts** Exercise library actions, deep links, create/edit/duplicate lifecycle, dirty exits, responsive editor behavior, YAML safety, stale updates, and one-shot channel selection. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Open **Workflows** and confirm the responsive card library, create tile, card action menu, and card-to-detail/run-history modal navigation. 2. Open `?view=create`; confirm the channel chooser opens once, the trigger inspector stays hidden until a channel is selected, and closing the chooser does not make it reopen after unrelated edits. 3. Create a workflow, switch between Form and YAML, add and remove steps, refresh a pane deep link, and confirm the selected trigger or stable step remains addressable. 4. Edit or duplicate a workflow, make an unsaved change, and confirm close, Escape, browser navigation, and route target changes require discard confirmation while pane-only navigation does not. 5. Enter unsupported YAML and confirm Form mode gives an actionable fallback without rewriting the definition; verify reaction triggers preserve and execute their filter. 6. Open a channel’s settings, select **Workflows** below **Canvas**, and open or create a workflow; confirm the shared modal stays over the channel, the channel URL does not change, New workflow preselects that channel, and closing or discarding returns directly to the channel’s **Workflows** panel. 7. In create, edit, and duplicate modes, move between the trigger and incomplete step panes and confirm the generated or edited title remains visible and editable. ## Screenshots Fresh captures from product head `c5c3abc91a71fe511d43e6cc9168b1626d0c217c`; the later review-guidance fix does not alter these pictured states. ### Workflow library and actions ### Workflow editor — wide ### Workflow editor — narrow inspector overlay ### Workflow editor — active channel overlay ## Review feedback addressed - Corrected Diff Posted condition guidance to use the executor-supported `str_contains(trigger_text, "deploy")` syntax and added a visible Playwright regression assertion. - Scoped direct workflow-detail navigation coverage to the stable `Edit workflow` dialog name, asserted the workflow title separately, and retained the trigger-node assertion. - Routed dirty channel-overlay Duplicate/Edit transitions through the existing discard confirmation, preserving the original YAML draft when the user keeps editing. - Made workflow deletion await relay success, remain non-dismissible while pending, and retain the confirmation/editor/draft with an actionable inline error on rejection. - Gated the channel-settings Workflows ingress and channel workflow query behind the `workflows` experiment, with defensive rendering if the flag changes while that view is active. - Matched the Reaction Added trigger to the prototype reaction picker, preserving native/custom/legacy values in canonical YAML and providing an explicit clear action. - Kept a channel’s Workflows panel mounted beneath channel-origin editors so clean close, dirty discard, and create cancel return directly to that panel without changing the channel URL. ## Verification Verified at exact pushed head `76ebba7b7ace1e13445744200da70ca9da231b7e`: - Push hooks passed: destination-org policy, branch-skew, differential file-size, Desktop checks, TypeScript typecheck, and **5,115/5,115** Desktop unit tests - Focused channel lifecycle E2E passed: dirty edit discard returns directly to the channel Workflows panel; create cancel does the same while preserving the channel URL and preselected channel - E2E production build, standalone TypeScript typecheck, and Biome checks on both touched files passed - Reaction-picker regression spec remains recorded at `dc28ffa98ec34b4e0656757fb2dd93e60a84674d`: **5/5 passed** (picker interaction, canonical YAML persistence/clear, legacy-value preservation, save/reopen round trip, narrow viewport containment) - Blox existing workflow E2E regression set at `dc28ffa98ec34b4e0656757fb2dd93e60a84674d`: **36/36 passed** - Earlier blocker and review regressions remain recorded at `3760c3d657a525f5af98e8d0f98bdd03999d8e61`: **5,114/5,114** Desktop unit tests and the dirty-overlay/deletion focused checks - Working tree clean; local branch, remote branch, and PR head all match the exact SHA above ### Related issue None found. feat(desktop): refine repository-aware project workspaces (#6003)
## Summary - Makes Projects repository-aware across browsing, branch and tag selection, local and remote source management, work items, commits, and contextual repository actions. - Refines project details into consistent single-column reading surfaces with a resizable, section-aware context pod, while keeping project conversations available in the attached chat panel. - Adds persistent sidebar project navigation, direct entity links, repository discussion channels, contributor identity matching, and consistent loading and activity presentation. - Keeps branch-specific controls on code-oriented sections while Tasks, Reviews, and Channels remain repository-scoped, reducing misleading context and actions. Replacement for #5981 with an identical final tree flattened into one signed-off commit because the required DCO check suite remained stalled. ### Related issue N/A ### Testing - [x] Desktop pre-push checks, TypeScript typecheck, and unit tests - [x] E2E production build with `pnpm build:e2e` - [x] Focused Playwright smoke coverage for project workspace, task, review, commit, sidebar, and contextual-panel behavior - [ ] Attach final before/after screenshots after design review --------- Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Wintermute <165f0c871dd2586bb18b6aa109eeaf57bb2132ff4d27b10120f4368a0f627022@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Wintermute <165f0c871dd2586bb18b6aa109eeaf57bb2132ff4d27b10120f4368a0f627022@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

test(desktop): await channel E2E bridge readiness (#5886)
## Summary - wait for the channel mutation and cache invalidation E2E hooks before using them - make those hooks required after readiness instead of silently skipping fixture setup - keep the production channel settings behavior and assertion unchanged ## Why On slower CI startup, `page.goto()` can resolve before the E2E bridge installs its globals. The test used optional calls, so all three fixture operations could silently do nothing and leave the seeded `General discussion for everyone` description in React Query. The assertion then failed deterministically, including both retries. ## Validation At commit `5b4d5d290b316db5eef78c3596a17c7a270c8163`: - `pnpm -C desktop build:e2e` - focused Playwright test repeated 30 times: 30 passed - `pnpm -C desktop exec biome check tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts` - mandatory pre-push hooks passed on the exact pushed head: `branch-skew`, `desktop-check`, `desktop-typecheck`, `mobile-test`, `desktop-test`, `rust-tests`, and `desktop-tauri-checks` - `git diff --check origin/main...HEAD` Signed-off-by: Wes <wesbillman@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Carl <c7ebe626f000404285d3686e1dc74cc07cc60a9754a150041ba132e14bd3e2ec@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

feat(desktop-messages): render compact Buzz permalink chips (#5638)
**Category:** improvement **User Impact:** Buzz channel, message, repository, pull request, and issue links now open reliably and display recognizable context in the desktop app. **Problem:** Buzz links could appear as raw or ambiguous URLs, and navigation links received during startup or community transitions could be dropped before the UI was ready. Repository and issue shares in particular required hover context to understand at a glance. **Solution:** Queue desktop channel/message navigation until the UI is ready, then render bare Buzz permalinks as icon-prefixed chips with concise entity context while preserving user-authored Markdown labels as ordinary links. <details> <summary>File changes</summary> **desktop/src-tauri/src/deep_link.rs** Adds validated channel-link parsing and a deduplicated, acknowledged queue so navigation survives frontend startup. **desktop/src-tauri/src/lib.rs** Registers the pending-navigation state and commands with the desktop application. **desktop/src/features/communities/useCommunityInit.ts** Resets queued navigation safely across community boundaries without leaking stale destinations. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/channelLink.test.mjs** Covers valid, malformed, and canonical channel permalink forms. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/channelLink.ts** Defines strict parsing and detection for `buzz://channel/<uuid>` links. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/composerMessageLinkNode.test.mjs** Extends composer-node coverage for normalized Buzz link content. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/composerMessageLinkNode.ts** Keeps composer link-node handling aligned with the expanded Buzz link surface. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkChannelDeepLinks.test.mjs** Verifies bare channel URLs become renderable deep-link nodes without touching code. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkChannelDeepLinks.ts** Transforms eligible bare channel links into dedicated Markdown nodes. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkEntityLinks.test.mjs** Covers bare repository, pull-request, and issue detection and code-span exclusions. **desktop/src/features/messages/lib/remarkEntityLinks.ts** Adds dedicated Markdown nodes for bare Buzz project entities. **desktop/src/shared/deep-link.test.mjs** Exercises queued navigation, acknowledgement, serialization, and community-switch behavior. **desktop/src/shared/deep-link.ts** Serializes pending deep-link drains and acknowledges destinations only after successful navigation. **desktop/src/shared/styles/globals/markdown.css** Aligns permalink icon geometry and spacing with agent mention chips. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown.test.mjs** Adds integration coverage for every permalink chip, authored labels, fallbacks, icons, and static rendering. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown.tsx** Routes channel and entity nodes through the shared presentation path while preserving authored link text. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/BuzzLinkChip.tsx** Introduces the shared interactive/static permalink chip and authored-label inline-link components. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/ChannelDeepLink.tsx** Renders channel shares and references with Hash icons, names, and shortened-ID fallbacks. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/MessageLinkPill.tsx** Renders ordinary message shares with message icons and channel/message context while retaining sent-from-thread behavior. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/entityLinks.tsx** Maps repositories, pull requests, and issues to Projects-aligned icons and contextual labels. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/nodeCache.ts** Includes entity-link rendering in cached Markdown node handling. **desktop/src/shared/ui/markdown/utils.ts** Allows validated channel links through the Buzz URL transform. **desktop/src/shared/useMessageDeepLinks.ts** Drains queued navigation links safely and clears them during teardown. **desktop/src/testing/e2eBridge.ts** Extends the mock bridge with pending-navigation command behavior. **desktop/tests/e2e/community-rail.spec.ts** Verifies queued links do not cross community boundaries. **desktop/tests/e2e/navigation.spec.ts** Covers channel/message deep-link navigation during startup and active sessions. **desktop/tests/helpers/bridge.ts** Adds reusable deep-link mock state and acknowledgement helpers. </details> ## Reproduction steps 1. Run the desktop app and open a channel containing bare `buzz://channel`, `buzz://message`, `buzz://repo`, `buzz://pr`, and `buzz://issue` URLs. 2. Confirm each bare URL renders as one cohesive chip with a type icon, a useful name or shortened identifier, and no duplicated channel `#` character. 3. Add an authored Markdown link such as `[design discussion](buzz://issue?...)` and confirm the supplied label remains an ordinary link rather than becoming a chip. 4. Select channel and message links and confirm they navigate correctly in warm and cold-start states. ## Screenshots / demos Houston dark theme with custom purple accent (`#a855f7`), captured from rebased visual implementation `ad411cc06`; current head `0aafa144f` only adjusts E2E expectations for the visible mention-label behavior shown here. **Composer — channel, message, repository, pull request, and issue pills** **Message list — channel, message, repository, pull request, and issue pills** --------- Signed-off-by: Taylor Ho <taylorkmho@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> Co-authored-by: Carl <acda9e433d19dcd0e6b6840f7f4b98f3a56f1fab98049d444c087019e6d36560@buzz.block.builderlab.xyz> |

fix(desktop): virtualize channel member lists (#4991)
## Summary - virtualize the unfiltered channel member roster instead of eagerly mounting every member card - retain the existing member search/add flow and archived-member behavior - cover a 500-member roster, bounded mounted rows, and scrolling to the final member in E2E ## Cause The members sidebar rendered every active member card at once. On large channels this mounted hundreds or thousands of avatars, profile/presence consumers, menus, and DOM rows, blocking the renderer even though fetching the roster itself is fast. ## Testing - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm exec biome check src/features/channels/ui/MembersSidebar.tsx tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts` - `pnpm build:e2e` - `pnpm exec playwright test tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts --grep 'members sidebar (virtualizes large channel rosters|can invite relay-authorized agents|can invite and remove managed agents|collapses same-persona managed agents)'` (4 passed) - pre-push: `desktop-check`, full `desktop-test` (4,371 passed), branch-skew Implemented by Carl on Wes's behalf. fix(desktop): allow shared agent mentions (#4913)
## Summary - admit relay-discovered agents to autocomplete when their response policy authorizes the viewer - require authorization in the exact active stream/forum channel for mentions, while keeping community-wide discovery for member invitation - fail closed for relay-only agents in DMs and unresolved composer contexts - re-authorize cached autocomplete rows after policy/channel changes so stale agent suggestions cannot leak back in - preserve managed-agent behavior and explicitly reject stale agent-marked channel members absent from both live directories ## Validation - `pnpm --dir desktop test` — 4,288 passed - `pnpm --dir desktop typecheck` - `pnpm --dir desktop check` - `pnpm --dir desktop build:e2e` - focused Playwright mention matrix — 12 passed - focused Playwright member-invitation matrix — 2 passed - pre-push hooks after rebase to current `origin/main` — desktop check and 4,288 tests passed - independent correctness/privacy re-review cleared with no remaining blocker ## Related competing PRs This supersedes or overlaps #2333, #3056, #4242, #4137, #2314, #4058, and #2605. fix(channels): restrict private-channel invitations (#4612)
This change requires an active owner or administrator for third-party additions to private channels. The relay validator and transactional database authority enforce the same rule, including removed-member reactivation and role-change paths. Idempotent self-target behavior remains available, while ordinary members can no longer extend private-channel access to another identity. ## Testing - `git diff --check origin/main...codex/security-private-channel-invite-authority` - Rebased onto `origin/main` at `5c98932` - Full CI pending Originating Buzz thread: `buzz://message?channel=3928fe05-df61-4b5d-b9c7-d623b9b10ea1&id=3c6c02312f763fbe0d2bfc33a6c1a362f91d0354f3d18b039cf7a0558c1439d1` --------- Signed-off-by: Jordan Mecom <jm@squareup.com> Signed-off-by: Eli Foster <efoster@squareup.com> Co-authored-by: Eli Foster <efoster@squareup.com> |

fix(desktop): show cached display names on startup (#3317)
## Why Buzz restores cached channels and messages before profile lookups complete. On launch, that briefly exposes pubkey-derived labels in place of familiar display names. ## What - Persist a bounded, relay-scoped cache of last-known display names, NIP-01 names, and NIP-05 handles - Seed batch profile queries from those labels immediately, while keeping them stale so the existing relay request revalidates them - Keep cached data presentation-only: avatars and ownership metadata are not persisted or used to seed profile-detail caches - Remove cleared or missing profiles, purge a relay's labels when its community is removed, and include the cache in local-storage quota recovery - Add unit coverage for parsing, bounds, eviction, malformed data, and cleared profiles - Add an E2E regression that delays the relay profile response and verifies the cached name is rendered first ## Risk Assessment Low. The cache is disposable, capped at 1,000 entries per relay, scoped by normalized relay URL, and always revalidated. It contains only public label fields and does not restore avatars, agent ownership, or authorization state. ## Verification - `just ci` - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm test` — 3,727 passed - `pnpm exec playwright test tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts --grep "cached profile labels"` — passed Generated with Codex |

feat(desktop): improve channel template discovery (#4549)
## Summary - move **Channel templates** from Communities to Personal settings - always expose the template picker in New Channel, using **None** as the no-template value - create a channel template directly from the picker and select it on return - preview the selected template's current visibility, canvas, agents, and teams - order the channel-creation controls as **Type / Visibility / Template** and mark Template **Optional** - cover populated and empty libraries, inline creation, selection, visibility overrides, mixed agent/team inventory, field order, optional labeling, and settings navigation in Playwright ## Validation Validated at desktop-only tip `76442270c88aa1d533ddca5de9f87cd615183919` with a clean worktree: - focused channel-template Playwright: 2/2 passed - Type / Visibility / Template ordering and muted Optional treatment visually inspected in the replacement screenshot - `git diff --check origin/main...HEAD` passed - PR diff contains exactly nine Desktop files and no Mobile files The pre-push hook was bypassed only for the corrected history push because the inherited Mobile test `keeps follow mode off while a tall newest message stays visible` passes in Linux CI but fails on macOS because its offscreen-child mounting assertion is platform-sensitive. fix(desktop): stabilize flaky DM expansion E2E ordering assertions (#2004)
## Summary Fixes 4 flaky DM expansion E2E tests in Desktop Smoke shard 1 that were failing non-deterministically on CI (also reproducing on `main` at run `29526844596`). **Failing tests:** - `channels.spec.ts:652` — creates the DM before preparing a persona mention - `channels.spec.ts:760` — routes an agent mention from an existing DM to the expanded conversation - `channels.spec.ts:815` — routes a relay-agent mention from an existing DM to the expanded conversation - `channels.spec.ts:940` — drops an expanded DM after the first message fails ## Root Cause Race condition: under fast CI execution, mock command completions (create_managed_agent, open_dm) can resolve in non-deterministic order, causing assertions to observe stale or mid-transition state. ## Fix - **:652** — Move the `new-message-recipient-popover` hidden assertion after `chat-title` settles (both names present), so it runs post-transition rather than mid-transition. - **:760, :940** — Add `createManagedAgentDelayMs: 100` to ensure persona provisioning doesn't collapse into the same tick as the expanded-DM open/start sequence. - **:815** — Add `openDmDelayMs: 100` so the two open_dm calls resolve in deterministic order. ## Validation All 4 tests pass with `--repeat-each=3` (12/12 green) locally. Biome lint clean. ## Scope Test-only change: 12 insertions, 1 deletion in `desktop/tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts`. --- Investigated by Ferret, reviewed by Grumplestiltzkin. fix(desktop): keep drafts out of the Inbox All view (#3217)
## Summary Drafts were showing up in the Home Inbox **All** view, mixed in with messages and reminders (reported in `#buzz-bugs`). Drafts are private composer state, not inbox activity — they now appear only under the dedicated **Drafts** filter. ## Changes - **`inboxListRows.ts`** — drop the `draft` row variant from `buildInboxListRows`; the mixed view builds only `inbox` + `reminder` rows. - **`InboxListPane.tsx`** — remove the draft branch of the All-view render path; `PersonalItemRow` now renders reminders only. - **`useHomePersonalInbox.ts`** — stop enabling draft selection (and its root-status relay probing) for the mixed view; draft selection is scoped to the Drafts filter. - Drafts filter behavior is unchanged: the filter badge count, `DraftsPanel` list, and `DraftDetailPane` all still work. ## Testing - `pnpm test` (desktop unit suite): 3697 passed, 0 failed. - `pnpm exec biome check src/features/home tests`: clean. - Updated `inboxListRows.test.mjs` for the two-variant row model. - Updated the e2e test (`channels.spec.ts`) to assert All never lists drafts and that the draft is still reachable under the Drafts filter. - Added `drafts-all-fix-screenshots.spec.ts` capturing both states (screenshots below). ### All view — draft is gone, messages/reminders unaffected ### Drafts filter — the draft is still listed and editable Signed-off-by: Thomas Petersen <thomasp@squareup.com> |

Polish composer activity layout and transitions (#3151)
## Summary - Replace the permanently reserved composer activity row with a conditional, content-driven accessory for channel and thread composers. - Keep the composer dock geometrically stable while activity appears, so the composer’s bottom edge resizes smoothly without shifting the conversation. - Preserve translucent backdrop blur during the resize with a stable dock-level blur layer, and keep thread overlay/focus-mode alignment consistent. - Keep bottom-pinned virtualized conversations fully visible as composer content, zoom, or viewport height changes without repinning readers who have scrolled into history. - Refine the activity lockup with aligned avatars/text and a subtle, reduced-motion-safe shimmer. - Centralize the dock’s quiet inset, activity rail, released space, and activity offset in one CSS-variable geometry contract. This takes a different, systemic route from the spacing reduction proposed in #2602 and supersedes that approach. ### Related issue Related PR: #2602 ### Testing - `./scripts/check-branch-skew.sh` - `just desktop-check` - `just desktop-test` — 3,638 passing - `useAnchoredScroll.test.mjs` — virtualized viewport resize follows the explicit bottom state - Focused desktop smoke E2E — 6 passing across stable dock geometry, multiline growth, viewport resize, reduced motion, blur ownership, and thread overlay alignment - Pre-push hooks passed for organization safety, branch skew, desktop checks/tests, Rust tests, workspace tests, and desktop Tauri tests - Mobile pre-push is independently red on latest `main`; the exact `activity_page_test.dart` compiler failure reproduces on untouched `origin/main` - Visually tested channel and thread composers across quiet/activity states, multiline composer growth, and thread overlay/focus mode https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ed0b08d9-18e0-4061-b272-ab509dbcd8ee --------- Signed-off-by: morgmart <98432065+morgmart@users.noreply.github.com> |

Inbox refactor (#2045)
## Why The Inbox mixed overlapping feed categories with personal work queues, so **All** was not actually comprehensive and several filters did not make it clear why an item appeared. Threads and DMs could produce one row per event instead of one row per conversation, drafts were hidden until selected, and reminders appeared through multiple competing presentations. This refactor makes the **Inbox** a focused, conversation-oriented place to catch up on work relevant to you. It is intentionally not a mirror of every unread event in every channel. ## What changed - Keep the destination named **Inbox** and use the standard Lucide bell icon. - Refocus **All** on DMs, mentions, thread replies, needs-action items, replies from agents the user owns or controls, due reminders, and active drafts. - Exclude generic top-level channel traffic and updates from agents the user does not own or control. - Group each thread or DM into one row, sorted by latest activity. - Resume an unread conversation at its oldest unread message while opening the full thread or DM in the detail pane. - Reuse the existing **New** divider at the unread boundary. - Make the detail title a direct link to the canonical conversation. - Give Reminders and Drafts the same list/detail interaction and location metadata as conversation rows. - Separate Reminders and Drafts from message filters with a subtle divider, without adding another labeled section. - Put reminder and draft counts beside their corresponding filter labels instead of on the generic filter button. - Preserve the selected conversation when switching filters if it remains valid; otherwise select a valid replacement without flashing stale detail. - Use filter-specific empty states and rename the options toggle to **Show unread only**. - Ship the focused behavior directly. The earlier experiment gate, Custom view, and default-view controls have been removed from this PR to keep the first pass focused. ## Filter model | Filter | What appears | | --- | --- | | **All** | One row per personally relevant conversation, plus due reminders and active drafts. Includes DMs, mentions, thread replies, explicit needs-action items, and replies from agents the current user owns or controls. Excludes generic top-level channel traffic, other agents' updates, and reminders that are not due yet. | | **Mentions** | Conversations containing a direct mention. Each conversation appears once and opens with full context. | | **Threads** | Conventional threaded replies, grouped to one row per thread. Broadcast replies are not treated as conventional thread replies. | | **Needs action** | Feed items explicitly classified as requiring action. | | **Agents** | Conversations whose representative response was authored by an agent the current user owns or controls, including top-level DM responses. If a human replies afterward, the conversation leaves this filter until an owned agent responds again. | | **Reminders** | All pending reminders, including upcoming reminders that stay out of **All** until they are due. | | **Drafts** | Active drafts, ordered by their last real edit time. | ## Grouping, ordering, and state - A thread or DM creates one Inbox row rather than one row per event. - An unread conversation resumes at its oldest unread message so intervening context is not skipped. - Conversation rows still sort by their latest activity. - The detail pane opens the full available conversation and shows the shared **New** divider before the first unread message. - Upcoming reminders appear only in **Reminders**. - When a reminder becomes due, it enters **All** at its trigger time. If its source conversation is already represented, the reminder state merges into that row instead of creating a duplicate; otherwise it appears as a standalone reminder row. - A due reminder can enrich a row in another relative filter when that conversation already qualifies for the filter. Reminder lifecycle remains separate from message read state. - Drafts appear in **All** by their last real edit time. Opening an unchanged draft does not move it to the top. - Reminder and draft rows show their location as `In #channel` or `In DM with <name>`. - **Show unread only** hides reminder and draft work queues because they do not share message unread semantics. ## Removed or narrowed - **Remove the old Activity filter.** It overlapped with All while still omitting items All now includes. - **Narrow Agents.** It no longer gathers every agent participating in a shared thread or subsequent human follow-ups. - **Remove duplicate reminder presentations.** The aggregate pending-reminders jump and duplicate generic feed rows are replaced by one list/detail model. - **Remove Custom and default-view settings from this pass.** They added considerable state and UI before the core model had been validated. - **Do not add section labels for Reminders and Drafts.** A divider communicates the distinction without creating another hierarchy in the menu. ## Risk assessment Medium implementation risk because this changes composition, grouping, ordering, read behavior, and personal queues in a primary desktop view. The implementation is scoped to the desktop UI and its local feed projection; it does not change relay schemas or public APIs. ## Testing - Desktop formatting, lint, file-size, text-size, and TypeScript checks passed. - Desktop unit suite: **3,663 passed, 0 failed**. - Desktop E2E production build passed. - Playwright smoke coverage across every spec touching this surface (`channels`, `smoke`, `profile`, `project-inbox`, `community-rail`, `integration`, `drafts-screenshots`): **118 passed, 0 failed**. - Full Playwright smoke project: **732 passed, 1 skipped**. Three local failures were investigated and cleared — `community-rail` keyboard reorder passed on re-run (flaky), while `relay-reconnect:97` and `video-attachment:223` are untouched by this commit (the only change to shared `tests/helpers/bridge.ts` is a comment) and pass in CI. - Unit coverage includes focused All matching, owned-agent filtering, conversation grouping, oldest-unread selection, selection stability, chronological reminder/draft composition, trigger-time reminder ordering, and duplicate reminder suppression. ## Update: July 27, 2026 The naming decision is settled: the surface stays **Inbox**. An earlier pass in this branch had renamed it to **Activity**; that rename has been reverted in `9c00d2d6e`, which is naming-only and changes no behavior. The revert covers file names, component/hook/type/constant identifiers, the sidebar label and tooltip, the `Inbox options` and `Filter inbox:` aria-labels, and the corresponding test names, test ids, and fixture ids. Three things were deliberately left as `activity`: - **The feed API contract** — the `activity` / `agent_activity` categories, the `feed.activity` and `feed.agentActivity` keys, and the `types=` query parameter. These are the server's names, not the surface's. - **Plain-noun usage** — empty states such as "No activity yet", plus `latestActivityAt` and `PROJECT_ACTIVITY_KINDS`. - **Pre-existing agent, project, and profile activity code**, which refers to a different concept entirely. The earlier experiment-gate approach has also been dropped, so `tests/helpers/bridge.ts` no longer claims that an Activity preview feature exists — `preview-features.json` has no such entry and the seed helper enables every desktop feature. Improve huddle audio failure handling (#2578)
## Summary - Preserve plain-string errors returned by Tauri and show an actionable message when huddle audio is unavailable in the relay deployment. - Use one error formatter across channel, timeline, wave, and profile huddle actions while preserving other relay and device errors. - Complete the huddle lifecycle when audio setup fails after publishing a start event, preventing peers and reloaded clients from reconstructing a phantom active huddle. - Cover unavailable-audio formatting and START → rollback-END reconstruction with regression tests. ## Behavior The Tauri huddle commands reject with a plain string. Several desktop toast call sites only preserved JavaScript `Error` objects, so the relay message was discarded and replaced with “Failed to join huddle.” The desktop now recognizes `huddle_audio_unavailable` and the current relay message, then shows: > Huddle audio isn’t available on this server. Ask an administrator to turn it on. Other relay and device messages remain intact, including microphone errors. `start_huddle` also publishes `KIND_HUDDLE_STARTED` before audio setup. If setup fails, rollback now publishes `KIND_HUDDLE_ENDED` through the normal end-and-archive path before resetting local state. This makes the failed start observable to lifecycle reconstruction and prevents stale join affordances. ## Checks - `cd desktop && pnpm test` — 3,405 passed - `cd desktop/src-tauri && cargo test` — 1,560 passed, 13 ignored; 3 diagnostic tests passed - `cd desktop && pnpm exec playwright test tests/e2e/channels.spec.ts --project=smoke --grep 'huddle rollback end event'` — passed - `just desktop-tauri-check` - `cd desktop && pnpm typecheck` - `cd desktop && pnpm check` - Pre-commit and pre-push hooks |
